[Q] watchon app crashes - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I just got the S4 on three in the UK. Everything seems to be working well until I want to use the watchon app and IR blaster. Firstly there is no information in the "On TV" section or any information in the channel guide. I am connected to the internet. Also whenever I click on the remote button in the top right corner the app crashes and sends me back to my home screen. Anyone else have the same problems? Any suggestions? Thanks

It works fine Go to apps manager, look for WatchON and clean cache.
Also, make sure you have the latest update installed, go to PlayStore and check for updates...
It will work, I'm using it right now

some apps will not install on my Nexus S

Hi I've had my Nexus S for a week now and by and large am very happy with it.
Recently I noticed that some apps from the market will not install after downloading, for example, the Pubtran London app.
the app always shows it's being currently downloaded, and when I check the About tab, it says that 100% has been downloaded, but it will not launch into install.
There are quite few apps which I tried to install but also had this problem. I would be grateful if anyone has experience the same issue and has advice to resolve this problem. thanks!
Not all apps are compatible with Gingerbread.
PS Ignore the fact that I thanked you. I clicked the wrong button
hi thank you.
seems then have to wait to the apps to be updated.
even the xda app does not work on nexus S!
I have just found a work-around for this problem.
everytime an app would not install, I just go into manage apps and clear the Market cache. Once the cache is cleared, app can be installed with no problem.

I'm having this problem too.
I don't think it's compatibility issues, clearing cache and force stopping the Market sometimes works, but it seems the next time I use the Market, one of my apps wont update until I do this again.
Any ideas?

The problem isn't unique to the Nexus S for me. My SGS i9000 (DocRamboned) has similar issue, especially with updates...lots fo them stall on the download, or download and fail on the install.
Perhaps there's some issue on the mothership's side of the market.

[Q] It seems my Samsung tablet was hit by some kind of malware, how to check?

The symptom is, each time I switch on my tablet, I receive a notification in lower right corner promoting something like lucky draw, game, etc. If I click on the notification, it automatically starts downloading apk. The apk is always named like yyyymmddxxxxxxxxxxx.apk. I never run those apks, I guess they are not friendly. How can I check which app I installed is doing this?

First check what you have installed recently. Could be one of those apps give spam notifications. I saw something similar on my bro-in-law phone and that was because he installed some kind of "enhancement" program to make his phone run more efficient (it didn't help bytheway).
Also, since you didn't say what OS you're running, 4.0+ has the option to disable notifications when you go to settings>applications>app name. If you find its an app you need, then that might help.
If you thinks its beyond this, then install lookout or norton from the market.
It's not malware, they're called push notification ads. Just download "Ad Blocker" (root required) from the market and it will tell you which app(s) is doing this. You can also choose to delete it from within the app.
Pretty handy.

Can you upload a screenshot of this notification ad for us? Maybe even a list of your downloaded apps?

I don't have it now, I will load it when I get it next time.
However I have the list of apps I installed because I sent it to the author of push detector. How can I send it to you? I just don't want to post it here.
I have another finding, which seems odd to me: I set the home page of chrome to be blank, and I double checked that, but each time I open the browser it always opens a search page with a lot of informations (looks like a portal but I don't like it). How can I know which app replaces my home page with such rubish?
Is it possible the 3G provider does this kind of things? (notification ads and home replacement)?

No, your network provider would have nothing to do with push notification ads or homepage replacement. And as for setting your homepage in Google chrome, are you talking about the desktop version? Because I don't believe you can make that selection on the mobile version, unless I'm missing something?
BTW, you can send that list to me in a PM if you'd like.

Try this app, it will tell you every app that has a shady ad network and you can delete it. A friend of mine had an app that was creating a ton of shortcuts all over her home screens.

In Chrome settings you can set your home page. But it seems it's the 3G provider that replaces the home page for me.
I will send you the app list. Thanks.

Quick remote.

I am unable to add a remote via the regular setup, and when I try a manual setup I get a forceclose. Anyone successfully get their app working?

Man, my manufacture list is just blank when I click on it.
I believe I figured it out. I disabled the apk Quickset SDK. The list came back once it was enabled. I shall confirm later when I get home from work.

I've got the same problem. Could you please tell me how to enable Quickset SDK? Thanks.
I was able to setup my cable box from Cox, but I was unable to program my sound bar or my tv.
works on my LG, Vizio, Sanyo and VZ cable box.. easily.
Thing is to be close to the tv sensor when first setting up. then you can use the remote as far as possible.

Anyone know of a solid universal remote app that would also include a program guide? Quick remote is good and all, but I'm disappointed in the quick remote app not including a program guide on LG, like HTC and Samsung did for their apps. Keep in mind, I don't own a smart tv, so Wi-Fi remote is out of the question, for now.

Can confirm this app works :good: Restricted with what you can add to remap button but working fine now(Until Samsung get wind of it)
This works great. Thank you so much. Just an FYI, if you want this app to work you must leave one of the Bixby services intact. I used package disabler Pro to disable all the Bixby apps. I discovered that I needed to keep one of the Bixby Services intact in order for this experiment application to work. I attached a screenshot to show which service you must leave enabled
It's not working for me. Bixby still starts with the button. I tried rebooting and several different remaps. I received an OTA update last night. I wonder if that may have disabled it.
Best one so far, just need to leave 2 Bixby packages enabled, only need a single press and don'y see Bixby at all.
Cannot see how to enable the double press and long press.
Also i have not accepted the OTA. Disabled all update packages in case root comes out for an older version, want to keep it as the lowest possible version
This does work by the far best from what I've trjed. Can anyone help with assigning Google app? It assigns the assistant

It is important to note that there are several programs that work, but this one works PERFECTLY!
When I map to google assistant it just seems like it works hit or miss. If I map another program like Google Now it seems like it works 100%.
How / Where do i get the old version of bxActions to get the functionallity to get shortclick, longclick and doubleclick? I need this .APK... and i dont want to make any Samsung updates. Can someone send me the old .apk? Thanks so much!
