HELP Needed to flash rom - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a retail XT907 on 4.1.2 that I got rooted, unlocked and twrp installed
I want to try the Energy rom and have it downloaded.
Where do I place the zip on the phone to install it in recovery?
I have backed up my system to the sd
Do I need to partition my phone? How to do it?
Can I instal the rom on my phone running 4.1.2?
Thanks

How do I flash safestrap? I currently have TWRP.
I downloaded safestrap.md5 but do I flash it through TWRP or rename .apk?

see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1979383
and then this:
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/11600-installing-custom-rom-to-stock-using-ss-312/

safestrap.md5 is NOT the flashable/installable file. You want the .apk file.
And why can you not install Eclipse on CWM or TWRP?

I got energy Rom to flash just fine on twrp
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2

TWRP would not allow me to create a partition.
I renamed the md5 to apk and installed it just fine, but now I have 2 recoveries
Installed the Energy ROM and its awesome but camera app fc every time :crying:
I want to try the PAC rom next.
To do so I assume I need to delete the current partition where I have the Energy ROM installed?
Can I install the PAC rom on the stock ROM slot?
If so how do I get rid of safestrap and keep only TWRP?
Thanks to the Razr M community for all the help, I only had Sammy experience before getting the Razr M and been trying to learn it all over again

Camera will not work on energy if you install it on top of a 4.1.2 ROM.
SS can been cleanly uninstalled without impacting twrp.
I'm now on pacman, and it is great except for camcorder not working.
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app

So if I erase system on twrp, restore to stock backup, all the changes made on ss and energy will be gone? Than just click flash and choose PAC.zip and gapps?

I'm not sure if wiping system/factory reset will undo the partitions made via SS - but otherwise, I think you are correct. you don't need both SS and TWRP going forward. however, the only reason to have SS is to install the awesome Energy ROM (although Brandon claims to get Energy installed via TWRP just fine - so you might want to check with him). however, that ROM is based on 4.1.1. all ROMs going forward will be flashable via TWRP.
if you don't mind camcorder not working, then go with PACman.
i would recommend once you download the 5/24 PACman ROm and GApps, go into TWRP, mount everything, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, factory reset, system wipe, mount everything again, install PACman ROM, install GApps, then reboot.
if you cannot deal with camcorder not working, then you can install the base 4.1.2 component, posted on droid-hive:
http://droid-hive.com/index.php?/topic/1767-98161-base-components/
go into TWRP, mount everything, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, factory reset, system wipe, mount everything again, install 4.1.2, then reboot
once you are at a good spot, then you can uninstall SS

Thanks, finally got PAC flashed and am loving it. Camcorder not a big deal for me as long as camera works.
Thanks again for the help

2 Serious problems

I have been a Samsung Galaxy Y user for more than a year. I have to say that this device is awesome. But.... I have later noticed 2 problems.
1) One day I tried to install Elegance ROM. I followed all steps very carefully and when the installation was done, I rebooted my phone. Unfortunately, my phone booted up again at Samsung stock firmware. I tried to enter recovery mode because I wanted to see what went wrong, but I was automatically redirected to CWM recovery. I tried once again to install Elegance ROM, and the result was the same. From that day, CWM is my default recovery. Why? How to fix this??? I can't access stock recovery and I also cannot install any custom ROMs. How to fix this?
2) Even my SD card is full with songs, photos and videos, the "Gallery" and "Music" apps don't read any file. Why? How to fix this?
P.S. I'm running stock 2.3.6 rooted.
Thanks for help.

You have a permanent cwm because you are using a custom kernel with a permanent cwm - probably was included in the rom zip
If you want stock recovery flash stock kernel (can be found in general section or flash hells fusion #50 from dev section and select option to flash stock kernel)
you would of remained on stock rom after flashing another rom because you didn't mount system in cwm before you flashed the zip
As for your other problem flash stock rom via odin as you have probably mucked something up from flashing zips incorrectly
So.... If I flash the stock kernel, will I be able to access stock recovery and flash CWM every time I want?
By the way, this mess with the files started when I changed my phone's SIM card. When I turned my ohine on again, I opened by mistake the "Galery" app. I noticed that no images were there. I also thought that the "music" might also had the same problem. And that's what happened. Which Odin version I will need?
Thanks again.

Yes stock kernel = stock recovery and you can flash a temporary cwm
there is no problems with a permanent cwm in custom kernels as you need cwm to flash roms
If you goto phone settings about phone it will show you your current baseband - for example mine is xxlf3
You can either download that stock rom firmware from dokys thread if there or any other from your country
Thanks everybody. You are all really helpful. I appreciate your help. But tell me, do I need to mount system before installing Elegance? And while I'm having a custom kernel installed, can I flash roms or I need the stock kernel?
Thanks again.

Follow instructions on the op of the rom you want to flash
you must always mount system before flashing a zip else nothing will happen - you can flash zips all day and no changes would happen as it can't write to system as it's not mount!
As a general rule
wipe system
wipe data
wipe cache
mount system
mount data
mount cache
flash zip
format data (not always required just for some roms)
restart
you do not need to go back to stock to change rom
There are guides in general section - please read them first then you would understand the process

Does anyone have a flashable .zip of the 9.8.1Q-78-1 kernel?

I flashed argghhh's kernel and am having bluetooth stutters (with apt-x headphones). I am not sure it's because of the kernel though and want to test a bit.
Does anyone know how to restore the previous kernel without re-flashing the stock rom?

Just dirty flash the stock ROM, without wiping anything. Well, you could wipe cache/dalvik just to be safe. If you don't wipe data, dirty flashing the ROM shouldn't affect anything.

As sloosecannon made clear a simple solo restore of the boot partition / img is replacing the kernel.
9.8.1Q-78-1 Stock Kernel
Thanks everyone!
And thanks Attack!
Update: Oh wow, that was it. No skips at all now. 2/3 of my audio programs would skip before when starting a song (again, only when using an Apt-X compatible bluetooth headset). Or they'd skip when opening a menu while playing a song, or turning off the screen. Skips would continue for 5-10 seconds and then it would even out.
Not even once on the stock kernel. I guess I'll report this to arrghh

Yeah, no idea. A dirty flash got it all back and working.
If I pressed the wifi toggle it would just turn back to off. After a few times I got the 10 fast vibrates and still nothing. Wiped caches a few time, still no.
But I'm back up and running
I was having an issues with my WiFi when using arggghhss.
Flashed the stock kernel from this thread and now I have the same problem with my WiFi not turning on. A dirty flashed fixed this? What's a dirty flash and where can I find a stock ROM?

Dirty flashing is just flashing without wiping anything. Just dirty flash whatever ROM you're using and it will reload the original kernel that came with that ROM. You can wipe cache/dalvik to be safe, but don't worry about wiping data when you're dirty flashing.

it should still work via CWM - but I think most folks are using TWRP.
what are your steps in the process?
mine would be:
copy zip file to the root folder of the sdcard (mnt/external1)
reboot recovery
mount system
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
wipe data/factory reset
wipe system
reboot recovery (not sure if this in an option in CWM, if not, then just make sure that system is still mounted)
mount system
install ROM
reboot

Well I got it flashed. I was doing a dirty flash so I didn't wipe data or system. But I guess I didn't realize that you had to Mount system. I assumed that the recovery did that automatically.
After mounting system the stock rom flashed just fine and my WiFi is golden. Thanks to everyone who helped.

Guys I need you (flashing sac)

Okay Idk what's going on exactly but I've tried downloading sacs custom 7.2 several times md5s all check out and when I go to flash it in twrp 2.6.3 it fails same with twrp 2.5.2.zip they both keep failing. However I was recently able to flash miuiv5 after a download so the recovery is still working (also it restores backups fine)... So. I'm wondering what's going on here they aren't bad files and it just won't flash! Does this rom have that aroma installer? Am I missing something that allows that?

It could be a product assert. If the TWRP is not made for t0ltespr (Sprint Note II) or ROM isn't made for that the two could be trying to verify the wrong model against each other and failing. You can remove this from the zip by looking for the assert in update-script.
Another option if you're open to it is to try my unofficial CWM and see if that avoids your issue.
Good luck!
rom help
In order for it to work, you need to flash sach's custom rom version 7.0. Let it do a full install and setup, then boot back into recovery. Then flash the 7.1 or 7.2 update. Hope this helps.
---------- Post added at 09:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:45 AM ----------
Do Not, I repeat DO NOT do a system wipe in TWRP after installing 7.0 or 7.1. Let the aroma installer do the wipe. I learned the hard way, I wiped it myself and went to update to 7.2 and got nothing but failure notices. Once I re-flashed 7.1 and let the aroma installer do the wipe, it installed with no problem
ive always done a system wipe with no problems. be sure you are downloading the full rom and not the update. and make sure your downloading from a pc over a good wifi conection, then i make sure the file size is about the same size before transferring and flashing. hope this helps

After wiping system, caches, data in Twrp advanced wiped are you getting the fail? if so just reboot recovery and try to install again without wiping. I have had the flash fail for me too and a recovery reboot solved the issue for me. Also in aroma don't factory reset wipe just wipe cache and dalvik. Also I am on TWRP 2.6.3.1

Need help updating nightly

S3 I9300
Pacman rom's. Nightly
Latest CWM touch
Problem I'm having is every time I try to flash the nightly update, it says update complete then when I reboot the phone goes into a bootloop and have to restore from backup.
Using CWM I have tried installing zip from SD card as well as from the external SD card.
I have wiped cache & dalvik cache after install and even tried wiping before and after zip install. Still get the bootloop.
Even tried installing using Rom Manager and get the same bootloop.
Do I need to change the file name or something? I'm kinda stuck. Any help would be great.
Thanks guys

I'm sure about your phone, but with mine, I just waited a couple of nights for a new nightly. I'm on nightly from 11/9/13 and its been working OK. With it being a nightly, there's always gonna be problems. So I wouldn't worry so much about that, and just wait for the official. but then again, I'm no expert.

CWM stuck trying to install ROM

OK. Tried to install CM11 on my phone today. Stupidly tried with ROM manager. The flash failed. I tried to go back to recovery but each time I boot to recovery CWM tries to flash the same ROM. So I couldn't get back into cwm to nandroid restore. Tried re-flashed cwm with Odin but still would try to install the ROM at recovery. Had to flash twrp clear everything re-flash my original ROM and titanium backup restore. Any ideas how I can stop cwm from trying to re-flash the problem ROM if I go back to cwm recovery??

Hi,
What phone variant do you have?
i9505 or i9505G?
Maybe you can find where the recovery script is located that CWM is trying to open? Then delete that file so CWM won't be able to take orders from it.
