Nexus 4 or Note 2 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
A Friend of mine asked me earlier this day if i wanna change my Nexus 4 vs. his Note 2. He got it for birthday 2 days ago, but its too big for him. What do you think...? Is the Note better than the Nexus ? I really like my n4 especially the fast updates, but the small Disk Space and the really bad Battery Time are making me sometimes really "angry". On the Note i like the big screen, the S-Pen of course and the better camera. I really dont what i should do Please help :/
Btw. I hope you understand it...Im german and only 14 yet

For me it would be the lower pixel density on the Note 2 that would be the definitive reason not to switch. The nexus also has better build quality and stock Android out of the box.

I never liked TouchWiz but Samsung did a great job optimizing the hell out of it for this phone, I have no lag at all. My only gripe with the Note 2 is TouchWiz lol, but I use Nova Launcher for more of an AOSP feel. This is the best device I've ever owned!

What's up PJ? I remember you from another forum lol. Both great devices, my buddy was just showing me his battery life on the Note ii. It's probably the only other skinned device I would want! Got my N4 a few weeks ago and love it. So far I have been comfortable with the non removable battery and limited storage... It's not like it's an HTC or something that never gets updated

Note 2 is way too big BUT if you are considering it that means it isn't too big for you so just do the trade...at least your friend will get a good phone

I'm actually very surprised/shocked by your battery life... Its terrible for the battery size... I have a N⁴ and I get the same stats almost... See for yourself...
Having Said that... I would say if your getting the Note2 as a 100% exchange and no cash on top, then take the note2 IF you don't have a problem with the size... In general the note2 is better value for just $400 you may have paid for your N⁴

Ive changed my note 2 for n4. After 4 months with note 2, it already came to me 'its helluva ugly device' , very functional and a masterpiece when it comes to hardware , but it looks like some cheap tablet and i wasnt even using half of those spen-multiwindow-floatingstuff-shinyfunctions. N4 is so beautiful and snappy.

The note 2 is stupidly big. The only advantage I can see is larger memory. But unless you hord all your music and films in one place, whats the point?

I have both. My Note 2 is stock, unrooted with sprint's service. My Nexus 4 gets aosp custom rom/kernel love with tmobile's service.
My nexus 4 is HANDS DOWN my device of choice if I had to pick between the two. The note 2 is big and clunky. It's not something that's easy to just throw in your pocket and forget about. It's as big in your pocket as in your hand. Try talking on a phone with a 7" screen. It feels uncomfortable and awrkard to hold something so big up to your ear, making bluetooth about the only viable option. Also, I can't reach across the screen if I'm holding it with one hand, so one-handed navigation is out the window. The one thing that really sets it apart is the s-pen. Know how many times I've used that since February when I got the device??? 3. The pen is a gimmick that doesn't really have very much practical use in daily life. Don't get me wrong....it's a cool little example of how creative you can be with android.....but I'll almost guarantee it will only leave its little storage slot once a month at best.
Honestly, I love the Note 2. It's a great device for what it is, but it's not a phone and it's not a tablet. It's a very narrow niche in the market and IMHO unless it's the perfect device for you, steer clear....there are far better options out there. Especially if it's your only device. I feel like tablets and phablets are in the same category when it comes to who should buy them: those who need a SECOND device. Not those looking for a primary device.

Do the trade then sell the Note 2. You could have enough money to buy a new Nexus 4 plus some profit.

I came from a GT-I9300 international white S3 to my GT-N7100 international titanium Note2.
The S3 was FAST, most of the time. There are still android stutters here and there, like with animations ect. Even after updating to the newest Jelly bean 4.1, it made the phone smoother especially scrolling in the browser but the micro stutters are still present.
The Note 2 is almost stutter free, (much better than the S3). It rivals the iOS in the 4S and 5 for smoothness in my opinion.
The battery life on the S3 was great, the Note 2 takes it to the next level.
I used to have the International Note 1 before my S3 and I never used the S-Pen because frankly it sucked and was a pain to use. It was inaccurate, not sensitive enough for writing or drawing well imho and was too small to feel comfortable in the hand. You literally had to press it up against the screen with a fair amount of pressure for it to register.
The S-Pen on the Note 2 is a million times better, no joke. I use it ALL THE TIME now. Browsing the web, scrolling through my song list, browsing my photos. It is such a joy to use that I always take it out and use it. It's that good! Writing with it feels natural and realistic.
I could go on and rave about it endlessly but I need to go back to work...
Is it worth it over the S3? Unquestionably. This thing is absolutely the best phone in the world and in my line of work, I have the pleasure of owning and using almost every high end android phone that comes out.
Im previously a user of Note 1..was thinking to get S3, but change my mind.. not because of the awesomeness of S3 feature SW and HW, but because the screen is small to me..what people are saying that u will never go back to small screen after get Note 1 was true..lol..so now Note 2 which im consider oversized of S3, had make my dream come true! U will never regret it, not until Note 3 come out of cause..lol

Yeah, the S3 isn't at all laggy. My partner has an S3 and it's on par with the Note 2. The Note 2 is slightly overclocked but I would NEVER say that the S3 is laggy. Ufff... haha.
I also came from an s3, I have zero regrets and will be selling the gs3.
I agree with others who disliked the launcher redraws and lack of ram.
love the note 2 screen, the stylus is great and the battery life is much better.
Overall all the benefits of the s3 but refined and improved. imho

Switching from Note I to Note II

I'm seriously planning to buy a Note II and I currently own a Note I.
However, currently I see there are almost all new features that are available in Note II are now available for Note I (based on N7000XXLS7 rom update), will buying this now will really be a worthy upgrade?
Considering only on features and not on ROM Capacity , Processor type and clock speed?
Any comments would greatly appreciated.

While original note is an amazing phone, just for battery life is well worth the upgrade. I used to average 4 hrs of screen on time on my note but on note 2 i average 7 hrs. Throw in hardware upgrade and JB and its an easy decision.

Agree completely. If you like your note1, you'll love note2. I thought note1 was reall, really good. Note2 is the best phone I've ever laid hands on.

Narrower design is more pocketable - when i ride my motorcycle, i can't tell it's there.
overall- i'm happy with the upgrade over my old GN1
To be honest, I regret buying the note 1 and sold it after a month. However, note 2 is way better and think I am going to stick with it for a very long time. Best phone right now imoh. So go for it man.

I'm thinking about it as well. Had my Note on EBay today and took it down as I have JB now and the prices will be dropping soon. Costco has the S3 for 129.00 . Black Friday deals could be worth waiting for. I don't see the advantage of the International version anymore except for the FM. Tough decesion. But the longer I wait the better idea I will have on which TW Rom will take the lead as well

I am 100% happy with my Note II and I think anyone who buys one is unlikely to be disappointed, however I didn't get that "blown away" feeling that I got when I first switched from SGSII to the original Note.
I Broke the screen on my Note I & have not got around to fixing it, so mine needed replacing anyway, before I broke the Note I, I absolutely loved it and feel it was probably the best smartphone I'd ever used ( and I have used plenty) I feel the Note II is for all intents and purposes the same phone as the Note I with a few tweaks, and since I prefer to run CM10 I have to say I barely notice the differences between the two - this is not a slur against the Note II , more praise for the Note I.
Maybe if you are a fan of Touchwiz & all the S-pen stuff then its a different story, but my experience is like an iPhone upgrade - simply more of the same with a few tweaks.
In daily use there is little difference for me, personally. My gf has the 1 now, and i am jealous of her extra 80 pixels.

Moving from the S3, to the Nexus 4

Hello all
Just wondering if anybody has switched their S3 for the Nexus 4? and what are your thoughts?
I am going to selling my S3 and obtaining a Nexus 4 simply because it looks amazing, and vanilla android is a bonus..
Your thoughts?
Try asking in the nexus 4 forum
Not the S3 but I did go from the S2 and yes it is an amazing device
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
There are already a handful of threads about the very same subject.
Thoughts on selling S3 for Nexus 4
For people considering a switch to nexus 4 you might wanna check this.
Nexus 4 vs Galaxy s3
Reason not to sell the S3 for the Nexus 4
Good point, can a mod please move this to the Nexus 4 forum?
I have both. The nexus feels and looks better. Other than build quality I can't see why I'd keep the GS3. My nexus has a slight rattle. So it will swapped for a replacement.
The GS3 doesn't feel as nice to hold. Even the GS2 beats it for feel. The os is better and I prefer the camera on the nexus. I think it is quicker too. It feels sharper.
It is all down to personal preference. The GS3 is still amazing, maybe its the fact the Nexus is new is the reason I prefer it. The expandable storage is nice and the removable battery, but I find its not as important as I thought it would be so I'm not missing it.
I'm gonna wait till next year's nexus. Between the SGS3 and the nexus 4 there isn't enough difference in hardware to justify a change.
You want to have android 5.0 when it comes out? Me too, and I will get it with the next nexus.
Similar screen, same battery, same camera, also quad core, etc. I'm very happy with the SGS3 right now.
16GB is definitely not enough for me.
The nexus 4 is indeed tempting, but the s3 now has some rather useful features in the latest 4.1.2 update. Multiwindow for example, is great for watching YouTube while browsing. Sure, vanilla android will probably get multiwindow eventually, but that wouldn't happen until Key lime pie, at least.
Believe it or not but I "require" some of these touchwiz features now, and these features are not in the market, they could be but don't nearly come to what the quality Samsung have.
Never thought I would say this but I love Touchwiz haha.

No surprises there, after years of using third party launchers and most recently Nova Prime, I'm now using TouchWiz for the first time on the S3 after owning all previous versions.
Well I got the Nexus tonight, and I absolutely love it, still got my S3 but she is being sold tomorrow, I don't think I've ever loved a device so much.

Colours on the S3 are overly saturated to me, I prefer the natural looking colours on the nexus.

I don't need to read the Nexus 4 specs to know I'll never consider it, because Nexus = No SD slot and that's why I've crossed Nexus devices that haven't even been thought up yet off my list of possibilities.
Touch wiz features are amazing. I'd get a nexus as a second phone as I don't like pure android as much as jelly bean with touch wiz. Probably I'd use a lumia as a second device rather than a nexus though. The only bonus to a nexus is the extra smoothness gained through less bloat of unnecessary fat that I hope Samsung will trim away in the next few updates.

One man's food is another man's poison. And too many people comment merely based on hearsay. I have both and love them equally. I have been a CM user since CM 6 and N4 scores hands down there. Still, that may not be the clinching factor for you!

I'm personally selling my N4 and intend to get a GS3. I find that I'm consistently worried about how fragile the Nexus 4 is. Not to mention I would really like to get expandable storage back, 16GB just doesn't give me enough.

[Q] HTC One (M7) or HTC One X +

Hey everybody! I want to know whether buying the developer unlocked M7 from HTC is worth the $649 asking price or is the HTC One X Plus the better option being generally $200 cheaper with its 1GB Ram and 64GB internal memory and quadcore chip? I must admit the non-removable battery has me leaning on a Sammy Note 2 but is there a way to restart these devices without removing the battery for those of us who customize our devices? In other words, from a frozen state or the need to reboot the device, is there an iron clad way to restart the phone in these conditions...and I don't mean give it a dunk or a bat or use to skip on a pond. For those of you who have in your possession a M7...is the hardware living up to the specs? Thanks!

You can reset it by holding the power button, like the Nexus 4, or any iPhone. You don't need to ever remove the battery. I never once removed my battery in my Note, Note II, or S3. People act like it is such a big deal, it really isn't.

I'd say go with the One. It is a bit more expensive, but you'll have the highest end device currently available (to prevent any flaming: this is my personal preference. The Galaxy S4 is also great, but I dislike the design of the SGS4 and really like htc Sense) and you will most certainly be good to go for another 2 years minimum. The X+ is also great, but the tegra chip and battery life disappointed me greatly on the One X. I can't say anything about the Note 2, but I've heard good things about it. What I dislike about it is the giant screen, but that's again personal preference.

What I dislike about it is the giant screen, but that's again personal preference.
And that is because...? Some nice arguments you have there

Note 2 because
Better screen ( bright power efficient amoled vs slcd)
Better battery life + removable
Better storage options
S-pen
No blinkfeed
Better camera 8 vs 4 mp
The only real benefit with a htc one would be build quality which is nice, but the note 3 should feature better build quality.

No. No, you don't. It's an opinion and has precisely zero to do with any "logic" that's actually veracious. Try again.
Your rationality behind why it's better (notably the AMOLED) is laughable. Why don't you add hyper-contrasted colors to that list since it's a widely held belief? Or the fact that most people find Samsung's UI ugly as sin? Or that the argument between 8 MP/ 4 MP is a total understatement? Or that you'd have no real way of speaking to the battery life of either device since they haven't even been in the hands of consumers yet?
These questions are, of course, rhetorical.

Screen size is irrelevant. Its based on the user.
Better screen? WTF LOL 1080p 468ppi vs 720 at like 260ppi... OK
3100 5.5 inch vs 2300 4.7
32 GB base storage is good. Vs 16/sdcard. This is a user preference
Spen? Barely anyone uses it. I barely used it once.
No blink feed? You don't have to use it. Change the home screen. Its pretty useful for most people.
Better camera? huh lol I'll just stop

Pixel count is irrelavant nowadays im talking about the power efficient vibrant nature of amoled.
Spen is very popular in my circles and adds so much to the business experience. Note 2 is for bosses.
You say change the homescreen but why have it in the first place? Just another gimmick.
Yes better camera. Note 2 camera is one if the best all rounders there is. Htc one is only good for low light shots.

You clearly lack reading comprehension. They aren't facts. They're your misguided opinions. Plus, you haven't even touched either of the devices before so it's obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about.

I have had a play with a htc one device a couple of days ago in a phone shop. Salesman was trying to sell the one to me on a 2 year contract. 15 mins after droning on about '1080p' , 'zoe' and 'blinkfeed' i just pulled out my 5.5inches of amoled perfection and was on my way.

Just out of interest have Samsung solved the loose battery problem in the note 3, you know where the device will switch off if it gets a knock? I know that wedging it in with a slip of paper helps but why should you have to do that in a high end device?

*SIGH* I Love Maxx - But One is So Tempting

Talk me out of exchanging for HTC One.
The one is boring after a week... The moto 8x is winning me over... Have multi cores to do different things is better than 4 cores all trying to handle everything. Plus the maxx is mad sexy and feels great in the hand. The one is sexy too but it chips easily!!

HTC one is a hype beast that just can't die. Just because it's metal it's getting insane praise. Battery life is abysmal compared to the maxx. Oh and its 6 months old so HTC will be dropping something along the lines of a one+ soon

The battery life on the Maxx is insane. I cannot kill the battery in one day. To me, that's the killer feature of this phone, and it's one the X cannot match.

I went and looked at the One tonight, it's really nice. The sales person said they sold 3 all day, not much for opening day.
I'm with you. Especially when you consider you can pickup the one for $99. I'm planning on picking one or the other tomorrow.

Is a great device, had one for a few months, but I'm enjoying this maxx much more. Battery life is insane, screen is nice, OS is perfect without any skins and the feel is great. Not to mention Motorola signal quality. Got to get what's best for you though, sense is still much better than touchwiz!

Yeah, if there was / is better developer support I wouldn't even consider. Root will probably come soon enough. I have 12 days to decide.

For everyone, the HTC One is being sold UNLOCKABLE! There is an ota that prevents it, but if you buy it then prevent the ota, you can unlock the boot loader and do with it as you wish.

Okay... how did you do a screenshot?! I've been hitting buttons all day like an idiot and can't figure it out, lol. I came from a Samsung Galaxy Nexus (and no, not even the 4) so I'm going to use that as my excuse for my inability to figure it out.

Use this for photosphere. Works great, though only has 5mp normal camera. It is from GS4 GPE.
