Is it possible to connect the S4 as a USB device? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I used to plug my old photon into my car radio usb port and was able to pull the music from the device. I dont thing this option is still available with the galaxy s4. Anyone else having luck plugging their phones in as USB devices in their radios?

[Q] Cannot connect phone to car via USB

This a rather specific issue, but none of the forums for my car were able to give me an answer. I drive a 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS.
So I just recently switched from iPhone to Android, and I have been having a **** of a time getting the phone to connect to the car via the USB port in my 2013 GLS. With my iPhone, it was as simple as plug n play...not so much with the Android (it's a Verizon LG G2, for what it's worth), as every time I plug in the USB cable, I get "Connection Error" on the screen, and then it just switches back to whatever audio mode I was in before.
I know the USB port actually says "iPod" underneath it specifically, but the owner's manual vaguely hints at a universal USB music mode...I've gone through the menus and tinkered with some of the options, but am unable to find a solution. I really do not want to use Bluetooth. I will buy a car charger and aux cable and just have two connections if need be, but I gotta believe there's a way to have a non-iOS device hooked up through the USB port and be able to play music through it. I don't even need metadata to show up on the screen, just a simple connection would do it!
I am running AOKP 4.4.2. This issue persists even with MTP USB mode activated.

Won't recognize USB stick

I can connect my V20 to a Windows PC via USB cable, and transfer files back and forth. I had to pick something on a menu the first time I plugged in the phone.
However, if I plug a USB stick directly into the V20, it does not recognize it, or respond at all. My friend plugs the same USB stick into his V10 and an app pops up and shows the folders.
I'm using a micro-USB to USB-C adapter on the stick to plug into the V20. I know the adapter works, because I tested it when connecting to the PC.
I have searched settings for "USB" and it only comes up with USB tethering.
This is an AT&T stock phone, using the stock launcher. No root or anything.
Any idea how to get the USB recognized on the V20? Thanks.
it might be that the USB host function doesn't work with those adapters. have you tried plugging in a USBC to USB adapter and plugging a flash drive into that?
something like this

or this

I've tried the same thing without success. My note 3 & 4 worked fine. I also had a Note 7 and Nexus 6P and it didn't work with those either.
has there been any advancement on this issue?
Did anyone find the answer to this? My V20 used to boot up a USB stick but just stopped working one day.

Screen cracked. Access phone via adaptor otg hdmi usb c

Hi folks.
So i've cracked my galaxy s8 phone and i obviusoly cant access or use the phone. My question is how do i connect my phone to my pc . Obviously i can use the hdmi wire but i want to incorporate my mouse/keyboard in the hopes of connecting to my phone etc.
Ive bought one of those 3in1 adaptors (hdmi, usbc, usb) in the hopes of doing just that. Now as you can see ive connected thw adaptor to the phone and the hdmi (one end to the pc and one to the mobile) but it keeps saying no signal.
Anyhelp would be appreciated.
Try Samsung dex. It is designed to use your S8 with keyboard etc.. That if you don't mind spending another 100$ for it..

USB OTG + Charging at the same time

Hi guys,
I intend to use an old s7 edge in car with a USB DAC (Mini USB DAC signstek audio -- PCM2704). I plug into the car.
Since this DAC requires a power source from the phone, it works and audio comes out, but now I have no way to charge the phone.
I am so confused with all these issues with cables and hubs. I saw Nexus 7 had a special timur usb host kernel rom or something...
What's the bottom line... how can I power the phone and the DAC at the same time and have the DAC plugged to the phone?
Are there roms I can use or special modifications whatever, what cable/hub? Please let me know.
I'm ready to root this phone and install a custom rom, but want to use it for this purpose
Instead just buy a cheap fast wireless charger.

Click to collapse
It's either USB-OTG or charging, you can't have both as hardware limitation (and i don't think any phone has that capability), unless you wireless charge
then how do those guys with the nexus 7 charge and have a dac at the same time with a Y cable?
i have nexus 7 with Y cable, but it works on some rons with enabled charging. thats why usb cable had many pins

USB Host Mode on SM-T713 and In Car Install

Can anyone confirm if the Galaxy Tab S2, specifically the SM-T713 has full USB Host Mode support? Either out the box on factory firmware or with a custom firmware? I currently run a 2012 Nexus in the car and have a powered USB hub with a flash drive, USB DAC, Joycon etc all plugged into the hub, which is then connected to the tablet via an OTG Y-cable. The Nexus is starting to slow down and show its age, so I am trying to figure out a replacement. But, without buying something and testing it out, not something I can realistically do, it is proving difficult to find which tablets support USB Host Mode. The S2 looks like a nice tablet, and with an S4 coming out sometime soon I expect prices on the S2 to come down a little as well. USB Host Mode is going to be a deal breaker though.
Additionally, is anyone running one as an in car tablet? If so, how reliable is it? any issues? recommended ROM's?
Thanks.
