[Q] Nexus 4 Data Connection Delay - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,
Whenever im on H+ on my nexus 4 running Slim rom i experience a delay in the data connection, ill have full bars but it doesnt show upload/download arrows and the app wont load (works decently for chrome, other apps are horrible like twitter, reddit, etc). Any help would be appreciated seeing as my home wifi sucks and i like to use my data connection instead.

Anybody use Google Talk client?

Hi,
I used to use google talk a fair bit on my Blackberry, it worked well.
I've switched to a G1 now and am trying to use the built in google talk client which you would think would be the dogs wotsits!
However if I leave the phone for an hour or so I seem to get signed out of Google Talk, making it impossible for people to message me until I notice and sign back in again.
I dont think it is to do with coverage, I'm using it on wi-fi in my house and also there is a good gprs signal. Besides when Gtalk on the blackberry lost connection it would keep trying and sign back in.
Anybody else seeing this?
Thanks
Mike
If you have a dataplan, try turning wifi off. The built-in IM client doesn't seem to auto-reconnect for some reason. If your wifi cuts out for whatever reason (some 2.4 Ghz cordless phones wreak havoc on wifi) then you will lose your GTalk connection.
Mine stays connected like a champ. Its actually the others that sign out all the time. But my gtalk stays connected through edge & wifi switches
Works perfectly on my g1, i have wifi turned off and always works!

Thanks for replys guys.
I'm starting to think it happens when my G1 switches from wi-fi to gprs/3g around the house.
Normally it uses wi-fi but there are spots in the house where it is weak, also gprs is not too hot, my guessing is it keeps 'hunting' between the two and this confuses gtalk client. Sound feasible?
Mike
That's probably the cause.
ur problem solved =)
i had same problem. lol. but i called att n upgraded 2 a new package of internet for the house. now its faster n i guess stronger. no cutoffs....and yes its ur wifi. wen ur screen locks, or timeout, the wifi is disabled. theres an app to keep it on but not worth the space. lol. or battery life id much rather tell you to just keep it as is. also, if u r not logged onto gtalk, wich happens...ur missed messages go to ur gmail account. so never miss a gtalk message. lol. i wish same was for aol and yahoo, and msn...i always miss messages

Both WiFi and data icons in statusbar

Hey,
After update to Gingerbread (no root, stock HTC) both of icons remain in the statusbar: WiFi and data. And data shows traffic (white arrows). Haven't had this before so: is this normal?

Sorry dude. Never met anyone on stock....

Mine occasionally would do this on 1.72 but hasn't happened (yet) on 2.3.
A restart or turning mobile data off and on normally sorted it though. Never figured out why but it would usually happen when coming into range of a remembered WiFi link and mobile data simply wouldn't go away. Either that or when an MMS was involved whilst on WiFi, that invokes mobile data whilst WiFi is connected, if the APN's are set up right.
Hey there.
I have an Inspire, so I realize there are some differences between that and DHD, other than the fact that I was on stock Froyo before moving to Inspired Ace, but I am quite familiar with this behavior. The mobile data connection will show traffic when connected to WiFi when using Market or other apps that require location or cell data info, AFAIK. I spent several days trying to track this problem down then learned that the connection disables if you force stop Market. There are some other apps that cause this connection, but they were all user-installed.
Hope that helps!

[Q][Help] Wifi inconsistencies

Just picked up the nexus 4 with virgin in Canada.
Wifi behavior is very bizarre. Here are my observations;
- Web browsing (chrome) stops responding, pages don't load, so often need to refresh pages
- Tapatalk behaves like Web pages. Stops responding, does not load and sometimes get error that Web server cannot be accessed
However;
- Speed test app gives great results
- YouTube streaming is fine, no lag or issues
- Wifi status is always connected
- Bars stay blue
Router is in DHCP, 2.4 wifi.
Same router works fantastic with my t989d. Which makes the N4 disappointing.
Any tips or suggestions appreciated.

[Q] help!! cannot load internet on 3G but fast load on H+

I have an annoying issue that if i connect to 3G i cant load the internet, but if it changes to H+ i had a fast load ..
but it changes over time, sometimes when i browse something it fails because it suddenly change to 3G,
How to permanently enable the H+ and never changes to 3G anymore..
Help?
That's normal for the N4. It does that so you don't use up a lot of data when not using the internet. When you need to browse something it switches from 3G to H+. Plus it saves battery

Bridge wifi and mobile data network?

Ok I'm wondering if is it possible to bridge a wifi connection with my mobile data network so both work simultaneously and increase speed and also when you get home and wifi kicks in you dont lose internet access momentarily?

On the first part, I'm not sure if you would be able to do that,. On the second part, if your wifi is on, it will always choose wifi automatically, if you're downloading a file. At least this is what I am lead to believe.

Yes but everytime you go away you loosr wifi signal and mobile network kicks in right? And vise versa. And every time it's switched from wifi to mobile network or the other way around if youre watching youtube, hearing spotify, or downloading something it cuts signal instead of smoothly transfering without losing internet access. Plus we could benefit of doubling internet speed by something like this.

Yes, that could happen, but there's not much you can do about that unfortunately.

Really? That sucks, it seems something that it would get really good use of.

It's not really a big deal with most because at the most the video you're watching or the file you are downloading will buffer for a second or two while transferring signals, which it would do normally, whether you're using wifi only, or traveling down the road, which it (buffering) will do without fail as it (signal) is passed from one tower to another. Some hand-offs are pretty rough.
