Have spot on camera but noting visible on lense - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just noticed when taking a picture with a beige background that I have a sort of smudge looking spot.
I cleaned of the lens area and visually it is spotless. There aren't any scratches either.
Is this a defect or does everyone else see this as well?
See the attached picture. The smudge is in the left.
I never noticed it before as it's faint enough to not show up against darker backgrounds.

I definately do not have something like that, so most likely faulty camera, the best way would be to exchange the phone.

It just looks like they might of had a spec of dust or something go in when they put the phone together. I would take it back and ask for a replacement, if they argue saying they dont see it then complain. If not and they are being fuddy duddies, either do it yourself (if you know what you are doing) or water damage it and send it off for insurance (I know, I know, not a good thing to do) but... if they are incapable of being decent, then you have to do what you have to do.
Good luck. I love my photography, and that would get on my tits. lol

Ah it's all part of the fun. Good luck, and let me know how it goes

Iv got exactly the same issue with my camera. It looks identical to yours but I have it in the top left corner. Not sure if it's worth exchanging for a new one just because it might be branded and SIM locked this time.

Well when I take a picture in portrait mode like yours is, they're actually pretty close in position. Mine appears more in the top center than yours does though.
The first picture was landscape.

A bit more than a coincidence?? Not the end of the world but I certainly don't expect that from a flag ship device. Think I'll wait until I get a scratch on the screen or something before I go for this exchange.

Dust under the screen

So I have noticed a fairly large grouping of dust has collected under my screen on the top left corner. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this and how did you get it taken care of?

Happens to a lot of people including myself. I just deal with it since I can only see it during the day in the sun. You can take it to the spring store and they might fix it for you.

I have recently noticed the same thing in the same upper left corner. I switched from my oversized battery and cover back to the original battery and cover to see if that helps prevent it from getting worse.

I've been using a different back as well, for the powermat charger. I wonder if that is what caused it. Well, off to the sprint store I guess. We'll see what they say.

I have the same problem in the upper-left hand corner. I didn't have an extended battery until today. Completely stock, even got the dust while I had my screen protector on. I do notice that my phone has what I think is called "screen separation". Sometimes when I press down on the screen, it feels strange like it is separated. Hasn't affected the operation of the phone, but it's not too big of a deal for me to take back to Sprint yet. I only notice the dust when the screen is completely black and in direct light, too.

I actually noticed the dust under my screen about two weeks ago and have not made it to the sprint store yet. Should I even bother going there or are they not going to do anything for me? I have the Total Equipment Protection as well.
I've noticed dust under my screen as well. What sucks is the dust is right on top of the front facing camera ....maybe this weekend I will take it to the sprint store and see what they say.
Yeah I have it too, also have a blown speaker for the 2nd time -______-. I took it in to get fixed and they gave me a new screen (awesome) but forgot to put a earpiece back in. Looks like im just ignoring the 2nd time i got dust under the screen and gonna fix the rear speaker myself, or try to at least.
If they have any displays in stock, they'll replace it on the spot. Just make sure you tell them you want a brand new component. The store I took it too put a display that was all scratched up and nicked on the edges on my phone as if I wouldn't mind. How insulting!

FingerPrint/Power button

My fingerprint/power button is slightly slanted. I was wondering if this is just me or not. The button is lifted slightly from one end.

There's a data ribbon on one side that holds it crooked like that. this has already been brought up and pretty much all of them are like that (as far as I know) so I wouldn't be concerned about it.

Crooked here as well. The first atrix I had seemed to be straight though. Kind of annoying. Also one side of the screen is slightly lower than the other.

Same for me. I had to return my first atrix because of battery issues and it had a straight one but the one I have now is tilted. I don't really stare at it so no big deal to me. At least my battery is performing now.

To add to the build quality issues, I went through 3 units at the store an all had some degree of dust under the screen. I took the one with the least. I took a look at my cousin's unit the other day and it also had a couple of specs under the screen.

okay at least im not the only one. a friend of mine thought it was a protective piece of plastic that needed to be peeled off at first. it looked too thick to be something like that so i tested it first to see if it would read my finger which it did so i left it on..
odd that motorola would place it like that
it is an inset reader attached to the board with a ribbon cable, as part of a button. Some sit slightly different than others, it is common on everything that has this type of multifunction setup.

id say its less a build quality issue and more a design issue, since the glass isnt glued to the screen. I have myself seen 3-4 atrix, all except one had either major dust or at least 1-2 specks.
and on top a software bug that scared the hell out of me, seeing dead and stuck pixels only in the CAMCORDER mode.
I should consider myself lucky then, no dust and my fingerprint/power button is straight. However, it is a refurbished phone (perhaps one that was returned by one of you!) so they might have taken a bit more care in reassembly. Who knows... Maybe it is best to buy second hand sometimes, or I'm just plain lucky

Explain
The iris (inner most center) is not in the with the outer circle.
Mine is the same way, I'm not real worried about it. Seems to take pictures well.
Geez... it bothering me..
Holy crap, I didn't notice it until you said something! Now I want to throw my phone away. J/K about the throwing away part, but I really didn't notice that until you started this thread.
They probably couldn't fit the camera module perfectly centered on the main board but figured they could fudge it by centering the housing without too many noticing. Little did they know you'd be buying one! (Ha ha, J/K again...)
haha... coz my S2 is perfectly centered...
Need to buy another one... or spend the money to cure my OCD...hahah
If the pictures you take look good and not off-center, I guess you shouldn't worry about it.
No, it is towards the right side of the circle. It is not centered with the outer circle. I believe this is part of their design (perhaps some technical reason too)
Mine is also more on the right side...?
Any thoughts WHY they do it technically ?
Thanks
Guys, not to worry, this is just a minor parallax viewing problem.
Center your eyes, you should see the camera lens centered now..
I was looking at a demonstration Note on display yesterday, and I thought the lens didn't look quite right. Now I know.
It took fabulous photos though!
is this a joke thread. mine is exact center.

you're not looking hard... I checked 3 units today but all of them have varying off ctr..from .1mm at the best...
so I cant replace mine since all of them are same
mine is centered (lens).
the outer part is not, in fact, it's not even secured as it moves around but never actually blocking the lens, so the camera works fine.
Looking at other camera...Galaxy Tabs etc.. most of them are not exactly centered..
I dont know why I making so much puss on this...hehehe
Really need to fix my OCD..

Considering doing this to my One. Thoughts, oppinions, experiences?

I was curious about what a silver One might look like with black antenna bands, thinking maybe the black lines would add some detail to a very large silver surface. I find it not bad actually and I'm thinking of trying it out. Thoughts?
How would you do that I'm interested ?

A really steady hand and a sharpie.
No. Really. Put painting tape on the edge of the band, and color inside the lines.
Looks ugly to me. Plus you probably won't be able to get that little ring around the camera effectively

Haha yeah that was my first thought the trouble with sharpie is that it has that kind of shiny texture to it that makes all the stroke lines visible... Still thinking of a good way

I'm thinking maybe these pigment liners: http://www.staedtler.ca/pigment_liner_ca
I use them for drawing and they have a much less shiny and coarse appearance after drying than sharpie. I think it would be best to maintain the matte finish of the plastic bands right? Also even though it says sharpies are permanent, I've had it rub off but not the pigment liners.

I would just be careful covering that small hole on the back. I'm not sure if it's there to release heat. or is some sort of sound/mic, but there could be some issues with covering it up.

It's my understanding that the hole is the ambient sound mic for canceling out atmospheric noise when your on a call.

Black automotive pinstriping tape maybe?
Looks ok, but not a huge difference maker in my eyes.
Well instead of making them black I just made them silver instead. I think the back needs to be more unified rather than more complicated
For anyone interested, I used a silver sharpie and taped off the bands using electrical tape. DO NOT use masking tape! The edges bleed like crazy because the aluminum surface is not smooth. Electrical tape worked great though. Also if you mess up in any way, don't worry, our old friend the magic eraser takes everything back to normal (I had to do this after the tape issue haha)
I like it, looks a bit more unified to my eyes. I'll report back later about how it holds up after use. Thanks to everyone who commented by the way, that's part of the reason I went silver.
OT, kinda bummed that my iPod touch takes better low light pics than my ultrapurple One... Oh well, life's about compromise
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Well, I can already tell you that it holds up very poorly... Seems holding it removes the sharpie on the edges in a couple days (top band is OK, just the bottom where my hand is for now). this is what I was afraid of... I guess my search continues.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
If an iPod is taking better pictures you want to return your phone, your buying hardware as well as a beautiful looking phone you shouldn't compromise anything for the price your paying for the handset. If it's just the purple tint in low light pictures then fair enough it will be sorted with next software update. (hopefully).

Dirt under notification light.

There is dust/dirt directly on top of my notification light. The dirt is under the screen but on top of the light and it creates a visable spec of dirt in the center whenever the light illuminates. This is my second Verizon LG G2 as my first was defective and plagued with screen touch issues.
Am I being too OCD that I want to exchange the phone because of the dirt? I am still within my return policy.

is it quite noticeable from an average person's view of the phone? like place it on the table and sit back, if the light goes on can you see it? if not, its not worth the drive just for a little dust on the LED, and im sure you wont be staring at it the whole time. However since you made the statement that you ARE OCD, then whatever floats your boat, you could end up with another defective unit since this is your 2nd G2 and the first one is a defective one, so it is a gamble imo.

My friend, you'll be glad I posted. I too have OCD, I too noticed this. I will harzard a guess that every single LG G2 has this issue, it's just that you and I are hyper sensitive and we noticed and decided to spend the energy to post about it.
I would not return your phone unless you have another defect with the phone. The issue with the dust is the design of the phone, so it will re-occur if you're like me and put the phone in your jeans pocket often. The dust is getting under the lens from the top speaker grill area, you'd have to seal this area to make a difference and then you'd be losing sound for phone calls.
How did I cope with my OCD over this? I accepted by studying the design that this is a flaw that will affect all phones. After accepting this, I weighed the pros and cons of this phone against the REALITY that no single phone is without at least 1 issue. The LG G2 destroys all other phones in nearly every single category. This, to me, is enough to let the dust issue slide. Afterall, what is the purpose of the LED? To shine light. And the dust is not affecting this performance.
You will eventually forget about the dust when you truely accept that no phone is perfect. If every phone has a flaw, this is the best one to have, in my opinion.
So, getting another G2 will only delay acceptance, and you'll be pissed off when it happens again. I am going to try using compressed air to blow the dust out from under the LED cover, that may work, I'd try if I were you.
Cheers!
Its noticeable but not bad its not worth taking apart for that small speck of dust
