Right now on the HD you can root stock and run CM10.1 from a bootable SD. On the HD+ there is even a version of CM10.1 that you can put on internal memory, but that is not available yet for the HD. And the HD is a great tablet.

I'll second all that. I haven't used the plain HD, but I love my HD+. And the support community here is fairly small, but very active

New owner some quick questions please :)

I have a new nook on its way to me and ive been reading up as much as I can on the potential this device has.
From what I have gathered so far it seems best to install Phiremod on this device.I dont have any real interest in the Barnes and noble software as I prefer Alkido and use this alot on my current tablet. I also want as trouble free experience as possible.
Questions I have are as follows:-
1) Is phiremod v7 worth going for yet? Or should I stick to 6.3?
2) Is it worth upgrading the tablet to B&N 1.2 update and using ManualNooter 4.6.16 to root it or should I stick with 1.11 and use something else? What is best here or does it not matter?
3) Can I use phiremod as my main rom installed to the internal hd and have say one of the honeycomb mods or cm7 run from a sd card? Naturally the sd would need a menu for this.
Many thanks to any help in advance
1) Phiremod is kinda old. I suggest the latest CM7 nightly, or MIUI (which is extremely simple to use)
2) If you install custom ROM, the BN Software is trashed. What's the point upgrading?
3) Stick with a good functional OS on the internal hd (call it the emmc) and put an OS you like but is not stable on the sd card.
1) But what about the latest version? I understand its based on a recent cm7 nightly anyway? Maybe you were not aware of it.
2) Yes this was what I wondered. Thanks for the confirmation.
3) Yes I was thinking this.So I can have say cm7 or a variation on main drive then honeycomb on sd then from what your saying. Thats great. Thanks
I believe Phiremod was built on cm7 and development has either stopped or is well behind. I would also recommended CM7 though. It really makes this device very useful.

Phiremod is just a themed version of CM7. The stable release of Phiremod is based of CM 7.0.3 and the test version of Phiremod is based off cm nightly 110 or something like that.
So yes Phiremod is outdated and the CM 7 nightlies and Miui releases are the most current roms you can get.
Thanks alot for the info guys I will go with cm7

The rom that shall not be named is the best one IMO. Not taking away from the devs here, but you can only push so far on modified stock (still think what you guys do out of the kindness of your hearts rocks though!).
As for rooting, you have 4.0.3 or you want to root and get 4.0.3? The processes are different for the different android versions, but check the development forum for this. There are some great guides on how to root from any official version.
Really, dude, both of these issues have been beat to death in literally hundreds of threads. Do a search on the development side of the forum.
don't reply
I don't care if it is the billionth time it is asked, that is why the forum is here. if you don't want to answer don't but don't ding someone for asking.
I have successfully rooted, tried two root tools, I have to look on the other computer to see what the one that was successful was, will try and get back to you on it.
there are many root tools though, don't be afraid to try em... i found to put the tool in the root directory of your computer seems to work best and make sure you use vista or xp, windows seven can be trouble.
am also looking for rom info myself, so if you find a good one let me know....

If is on 4.0.3, there is and easy way to root it. Do file, plug tab, run the app. Rooted.
If you want Roms. Install adb then then apx tool.
Adb install 20 min. The rest in 10 min. Now i can say this because i know. Last week. 1 hr to do each one.

Does it update the kernel? Any problems going from 4.0.3? Are you over clocking with that Rom. Have not been able to find the download link for it, do you have it. I was also wondering when you flash a new Rom do You lose all your apps and have to reload, thanks for info.
Any ROM of Civato's. Everything he develops is rock solid

[Q] Installing CM10 - Can you go back to CM7.2?

Hello .. I have a working CM7.2 Nook Color (via EMCC) that I installed per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227. Based on what I've been reading - it's safe to run CM10. I have a second Nook Color I'm willing to lay CM10 onto. If for some reason CM10 just doesn't work well or not as snappy as 7.2 - can I downgrade to 7.2?
Why do I want to try CM10? Looking for better response from the device, 7.2 isn't snappy - seems laggy.. But like I posted in another thread, maybe I'm doing something wrong or maybe expecting too much from the device?
Thanks for any suggestions!
I answered your question in the other thread.

My experience
I have just updated from 7.1 to 10 and, so far, everything seems better.
YMMV
Sorry, but could you give link to your response, please?
Thanks

No you cannot do it in settings directly. Go to my NC SD installation guide linked in my signature and I describe how to update to new nightlies.

*Request* Custom Rom

Is it possible to port a CM ICS ROM. I don't like that I can't use my Wii classic controller for games like Dead Trigger on Jelly Bean and I do not want to go back to the modified ICS that comes on the device.

Please change the title of this thread. I originally was going to write a request for stock ui change.

You mean stuff like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032364 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063968 (cm10 part)?

No, CM10 builds are only for sdcard.
Though you can always get my cm source tree, add the emmc changes and make an emmc build
Thanks you so much. Will load up my Linux box when I get home.
