Bricked device?
Hi all,
I just got my Xperia Tablet Z, played around with the stock ROM and decided to unlock the bootloader, in order to install CyanogenMod 10.1 RC2.
I followed the official Sony guide to unlock the boot loader, using a freshly downloaded ADT bundle on an Ubuntu 13.04 installation.
No problem at all to get through the unlocking process, I rebooted and I got through the initial configuration (on a clean system, as I expected).
Just after powering off the device, putting it in fastboot mode again, extracting boot.img from an md5-verified cm-10.1.0-RC2-pollux.zip I sent these commands:
sudo ./fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
sudo ./fastboot -i 0xfce reboot
and pressing the volume rockers (+/- volume controls, right?) a few times, nothing happened except a red, still, LED.
After a couple of minutes, pressing the + volume again resulted in a halt of the device, and since then nothing happens. No way to get into fastboot mode again... I don't wish to be the first to brick the Xperia Tablet Z!
Is there a "hardware reset" or something like that?
Thanks for all the help,
bibe

You can try to flash your device using SUS.

Still stuck

Thanks Hondaracer, but still no success: the device can't go into fastboot mode (required in step 2 of SUS). By the way, SUS asks to insert the USB cable while pressing Down volume, not Up as I did before. I tried both, of course, but no sign of activity.
Keeping power button and volume up pressed for 5-6 seconds makes the LED blink. Just after that, the tablet is supposed to reboot, but I get no visible sign of activity.
I also md5-checked the boot.img file after extracting it again from the cm file.

Locked Bootloader
My bootloader status says not allowed..
"Bootloader unlock allowed says No"
Is there anything I can do to unlock that?
I'm basically just wanting to install unbranded firmware. not liking the DoCoMo firmware..
Thanks

Unlocking
Might be of some help for some people...
My issue is im worried as I read somewhere that we need to back up the DRM codes or something to retain BRAVIA. anyone know how to back up the codes?
Unlock Bootloader Sony Xperia Tablet Z
May 20, 2013
SonyUnlock BootloaderXperia Tablet Z
To unlock your bootloader, you’ll first need a program to download and install the Android SDK (Software Developer Kit) from Google.
In order to unlock the bootloader on your Xperia Tablet Z you will need to obtain a code from Sony. The following process will help you acquire this code so that you can flash a custom recovery.
1.Open the Phone application on the Xperia Tablet Z and enter *#06# to obtain the device’s IMEI. Save this for later use.
2.Put the device into fastboot mode:
3.Open a terminal on the PC and enter fastboot -i 0x0fce getvar version
4.Navigate to unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com
•Agree to the ‘Are You Sure’ and ‘Legal Terms’ prompts to continue.
•Enter the first 14 digits of your IMEI from Step 1, enter a name and an email address.
•The unlock code should now appear, write this down for the next step.
5.In the PC’s terminal, enter the following command: fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY •KEY corresponds to the unlock code you were given.
The Xperia Tablet Z’s bootloader should now be unlocked.
Note:Unlocking the bootloader on a Sony device may automatically wipe internal storage; a backup of the sdcard is suggested.

I'm pretty sure it stays. Why? Unlocking the bootloader just give us permission to put customs roms

You need ti back up the DRM keys. See threads in the Z and ZL forums.

Yea I thought so.
I just cant find anything that's explaining the process..
I cant find where it says you will remove BRAVIA/DRM Keys if you unlock boot loader...
Once I do figure out how to back up DRM keys and then unlock boot loader how will one replace keys and will the boot loader need to be relocked again to gain BRAVIA again...or can you have BRAVIA on with unlocked bootloader..?
Thank you

Is your Arc boot loader unlockable?

As the SE Dev blog said, not all new SE will have the Boot Loader unlockable, you have to test it with Fastboot: The only way to determine if you can unlock the boot loader for your phone is to connect your phone to the Fastboot tool in the Android™ SDK. If your phone can connect to Fastboot, the boot loader can be unlocked
SO! did you try it? and if yes what is your version of Arc and result?
Hey,
I figure my Rogers Arc is not able to unlock the bootloader (BL).
Everytime i try holding the Menu button then plugging in the USB the LED on the side should turn blue. Also the SE should not show up on the screen, in my case it did.
But when i went to the SE site to obtain the unique code, i was able to obtain one.
Now, what do you suggest in this case.
I've already rooted my device via gingerbreak.
Can i still use flashtool to load FW to my device with no probs? or do i still need to unlock the BL?
Thanks..
If the led doesn't turn blue when we press menu ,while the phone is powered off ,then the bootloader can't be unlocked???
If your arc is branded then it is not unlockable, yet.

[Q] How to check if phone has unlocked bootloader.

Hello, I bought Xperia Play on auction site. It's brand new, but I believe that simlock was downed by the seller. I would like to know if phone has also unlocked bootloader (I would like to flash rooted rom to turn of that awful auto brightness feature).
I earlier updatet rom from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 using SE PC Companion 2.0. Phones with unlocked bootloader even update with that tool or maybe if that happed that means that my phone has no unlocked bootloader?
regards,
Boomz.
Connect it to the computer in fastboot mode, (Power off, disconnect from computer, hold search key, while holding search key, connect it to computer), go to fastboot and run the line, fastboot devices, if you get an output like oih350980tw9083 device or whatever, it has an unlocked bootloader
EDIT: Fully read your post, yeah, if it updated via Sony tools, then it is locked, but if the phone is sim free, then you may be able to unlock it!

This is wrong. All phones come originally with BL's closed. If you get an output with the "fastboot devices" command, it means that your bootloaders are unlockABLE. You need to type the unlocking command in order to unlock them.
The definite proof to see if your BL's are closed or not is to open the TrackID app. If it launches well, your bootloaders are locked. If it doesn't and it complains that the app couldn't connect to SE's servers (provided you're connected) , then they're unlocked. This occurs because the bootloader unlocking operation wipes the DRM certificates from the phone.

Nexus 7 Bootloader Locked!

After Android tried to update itself to the newest version, it seemed that this failed and has caused a "boot failed" message. The tablet refuses to go into recovery mode, its marked as red. The only accessible mode is going into bootloader. After reading many forums and trying my luck with toolkits of all sorts (Nexus 7 Root Toolkit, Nexus Root Toolkit, Android SDK commands), the bootloader refuses to unlock. I have successfully installed the usb drivers since my pc recognizes the device. fastboot devices recognizes the devise but adb devices doesn't. The bootloader is locked and nothing else is accessible, whats worse is that through all of these toolkits and commands bootloader refuses to unlock, trying to unlock it always results in a failure message (unknown error). Commands such as format, unlock or erase fail in reviving the system. Anyone have any experience with this? I have searched for over a week now and im terribly frustrated by this. :silly:

do it the right way, dont use toolkits.
to unlock the bootloader, go into the bootloader(fastboot), connect the divice via usb, type..
fastboot devices(to make sure your device is visable)
fastboot oem unlock(to unlock the bootloader)
if you get an error, reboot the bootloader and try again. i had an error the first time on my replacement seven, second time it unlocked.

Thanks for the reply, i tried this several times, each time rebooting bootloader, but the command still posts an error in unlocking the bootloader. Recovery and Restart bootloader are marked in red font, Start is in Green, Power off White. I also tried flashing the recovery, since its inaccessible but because of bootloader being locked in won't allow me. :S Anything else you know that can be done ?
Reflash the bootloader?
edit: making VERY sure that you DON'T erase the existing bootloader first.
Try a manual update

You can try a manual update. Download the update and run adb sideload. That was not working for me, cause my Nexus it's allready updated, but hopefully it will work for you.

fortunatley though bootloader doesn't allow any command even the erase, it wouldn't allow me, nor formatting it as well. So i think the bootloader is intact. This is the screen i get from pressing Power and Vol Down.

As i have come to learn, adb can only function when debugging is enabled, in my device it wasn't unabled. Also the recovery program cannot be opened so sideloading through commands cannot be done. At least according to how some forums described the How To sideload through adb

try one more time with a different port/pc if it daesn't work it may be a hardware fault, i think a corrupted sd.

Use the volume up/down keys to navigate to "Recovery mode", then press the power button.
When the Android with the red exclamation point appears, hold down power first, followed quickly by volume down and volume up. (So that to start, you're holding down power, then you're holding down all three). After 2-3 seconds, release all three keys.
Use the volume up/down keys to select "apply update from ADB," then press power to select it.
On your computer, open up a command prompt or terminal window.
Using the command line, navigate to the folder containing the ADB executables and the update file.
type:
adb.exe sideload <update filename>
On my Nexus with Jelly 4.2 usb debugging is not enabled too, but I still get the option in recovery mode menu. Operation not succesful cause I cannot upgrade from 4.2 to 4.2. I will wait for another update and then try it again. Good luck!

I tried it on the laptop too, even changed the drivers to universal naked drivers, but nothing! Restart bootloader is with red, clicking it wont reboot the tablet, also recovery mode red, the only working button is the Start (green) but that leads to boot failure and power off.

Unlock Bootloader on 4.2
Hello, I was wondering if the bootloader in 4.2 can be unlocked the same way as it was on 4.1.2? I recently got a new nexus 7 and updated to 4.2.
Thanks and Cheers!
After some research into my issue, i have discovered that other users have posted "unbricking" solutions through a program called nvflash, when the device is put in APX mode. But unfortunatley i've yet to find a nvflash solution for nexus 7. I will experiment with the commands and what the others have reported as a solution.

older Xperia devices sometimes got issues after unlock of bootloader (BRICK after FOTA update) - you have been warned
why to unlock bootloader?
u can flash custom ROMs/Kernels
u dont need to worry if the new firmware can be rooted or not as with unlocked bootloader u can always ROOT ur device
Sony gives sneak-peaks/preview builds of latest OS which requires unlocked bootloaders, as they did with Xperia 2011/2012 line, so who knows may be Sony may give early builds of next android OS
Most of this is taken from lollylost100's his tutorial from ARC thread (all credits for that concise tutorial go to him, i have elaborated on a few things and added device specific changes)
[ before we begin unlocking bootloader ]
get the IMEI code for ur device: type *#06# in phone dialer to find it out, note only the digits (no dashes)
download the fastboot package
IMPORTANT: if you are using Windows 8 you will need to enable few things to allow driver installation
download the latest FlashTool Xperia Driver Pack and install fastboot drivers (common) & adb drivers for this device from the list!
make sure u have a windows PC with USB cable to connect the phone
power down ur phone and keeping the Volume Up button pressed connect the USB cable to PC this will trigger FASTBOOT mode and windows will start driver installation, which should be automatically done
once drivers are installed just disconnect cable and power on device
[ how to unlock ] (official way)
Go to: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and read everything!
At the bottom click 'Start Unlocking the Bootloader'
First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your phone by checking the service menu. In your phone, open the dialler and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
Click to collapse
after u have verified that u can unlock bootloader, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Continue"
you will get numerous prompts, read all info and if u agree click on "Accept"/"OK"/"Proceed"
finally u will get a "Create Unlock request" page, enter your IMEI (sometimes the last digit needs to be removed for this to work), name and email address
You should now receive your unique unlock key via EMAIL, SAVE THIS KEY SAFELY
Extract fastboot_with_Android_USB_file.rar and open fastboot folder
Hold SHIFT and right click on the background of the folder
Select 'Open command window here'
Connect your phone in fastboot mode (turn phone off, hold Volume UP button and plug in USB Cable) [make sure drivers are installed as explained above)
In the cmd windows type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
If a value is returned (it will return 0.5), it means the phone is correctly connected
Type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY and replace KEY with the key which u received earlier.
You're device should now be bootloader unlocked
If this tutorial is too much for you then itskapil wrote a step-by-step guide (and recorded a video also):
-Instructions: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-unlock-bootloader-xperia-arc-play-neo-pro/
-Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRH3pC7MhEA
(the above videos and some steps are for Xperia 2011 devices, but most the steps are same for Xperia SP)
Relock procedure is posted here
Relocking Bootloader
With the latest release of Flashtool it is now possible to relock bootloader.
Download the latest flashtool from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162907
Important
DO NOT USE ANY FTF TO RELOCK BOOTLOADER! THOSE OLD FTFs DO NOT WORK FOR THE 2013 DEVICES!!!
before u relock bootloader u have to be on pure stock kernel (flash only the kernel.sin using flashtool), else the device WILL NOT BOOT after relock
Steps:
now start Flashtool and click on BLU button
u will be asked to connect device in flashmode
once u connect the device u will get a prompt to "Relock"
click on it and when prompted disconnect the device
Mmm my device says that its not allowed for unlock (see the attachment) it means that i cant to unlock my bootloader for ever???theres not another method for to do it??????? what can be the reason for that its not allowed????? Sorry for my bad english and thanks

Ok so I have a strange problem. I got my Xperia SP c5303 today and I'm using Windows 8 x64. I already managed to root the phone on the .257 firmware. When I try to connect the device in fastboot mode (holding volume + and plugging the usb cable to the computer), the LED turns blue and for a brief moment in device manager I can see that there is a device called Sony Fastboot Interface. The problem is, a little notification appears on my computer that the device wasn't recognized even though it appears to be installed correctly in device manager, and after about 5 seconds the phone automatically changes to charge mode.
I tried using Flashtool and when I plugged the phone in fastboot it did recognize it, but just for the 5 seconds that it stays that way. I already disabled driver signature enforcement and installed all Flashboot drivers but the phone just doesn't stay in fastboot mode.
BTW: Bootloader unlock allowed says yes

I saw that guide and I was going to try it but the phone doesn't stay long enough to be able to do it, once it changes to charging mode then it stops appearing in Device Manager.
I searched online and seems that a lot of people were having this problem with the Xperia line. In most cases it says that it's because drivers are not installed, but I believe I already installed them correctly. Here is how the device appears on my computer but it still automatically changes to charging mode after a couple of seconds.
EDIT: Oh man, someone please erase my posts haha, I actually confused the USB 3.0 and 2.0 in my computer... I connected the phone to a USB 2.0 port and it was detected correctly, I was able to unlock the bootloader.
EDIT2: How do you check if the bootloader is actually unlocked? (Just to be sure)
Do I have to leave my SD inserted when I unlock the bootloader so I won't lose all my data?

The external microSD card will not be deleted if you use Flashtool to unlock or relock the bootloader, only the first time you unlock it by the official Sony website. Even with that I think it doesn't wipe the external microSD
But is it safe to remove the external microSD before starting the unlocking process? I remember that I would get a bootloop on my old phone if I didn't have a microSD inserted while flashing stock rom.

This is solution that i used to unlock found device Xperia Z5 Premium, which was locked with fingerprint, bootloader is locked and FRP (google account security) is activated.
Dear friends, as everyone here, i must say USE THIS GUIDE ON YOUR OWN RISK ! ! !
I'm not responsible for bricked devices, if your dog unplug the cable or you lost electricity durring flashing!
First i want to say HUGE thanks to @YasuHamed !!! He knows why !

GUIDE:
1st you need Sony flashtool and drivers, and ADB fastboot.
-Download Sony Companion to have all sony drivers.
-Download Flashtool (flashtool-0.9.23.1-windows.exe) and install it.
-I updated Flashtool from 0.9.23.1 to 0.9.23.2. Simply download (x10flasher.jar) and replace existing file in C:/Flashtool/.
-Next download ADB fastboot (minimal_adb_fastboot_v1.4_setup.exe) and install it.
2nd i flashing another Android using Flashtool thru flash mode, for clean start of the device.
-Open Flashtool (C:/Flashtool/Flashtool.exe)
-Connect your device in flash mode.
-Click on the black XE button on the right end of the toolbar in FlashTool.
-Choose your device, choose region and customization and on the right side, bellow the picture of the phone you can see "Available Firmware:"
Here i've choose 1300-1579 Internal Promoter 32.0.A.6.170 / R2B. This is old 5.1.1 Android which allow you to get in to the phone menu itself and do the FRP Unlock.
-Click on the firmware , bellow phone picture, and download it.
-After it is downloaded, close that windows and on main window, will see in console that firmware is prapairing for flashing.
-Phone is still connected in flash mode, and flashing will start automaticly when firmware is ready.
Have patience! Prepairing and flashing took around 10 mins for my PC.
3rd Bypass FRP ( google account security lock)
-check FlashTool console if flashing status is DONE, and if it is, unplug your device and power it up.
-now download the video file ( Bypass Google Account SONY Xperia Z5 - How to Remove FRP Lock.mp4 ) and follow the steps as it is shown.
On the last step when you have to switch from GUEST to Owner user, my device just frozen on waiting screen, and after 5-6 minutes screen went disturbingly black, like it is dead and went OFF.
I power it up and voila, there was 2 steps to complete setting up of the new phone.
4. If you want you can unlock your bootloader now (if it is available by SONY) and use custom roms, root and etc.
-go to dialer and dial *#*#7378423#*#*
-tap Service info” go to “Configuration ” go to ” Rooting Status.
-if Boot loader unlock allowed says ” Yes” then you can follow below guide. If it says NO - sorry, you can't unlock your bootloader.
-you need your IMEI number, You can check it in settings menu or dial *#06#.
-turn on OEM Unlocking and USB debugging options in Settings > Developer options. (To enable Developer options menu, go to Settings > About phone , and tap several times on Build number.)
-switch off your Sony Xperia Z5 Premium by pressing power button.
-now connect phone in fastboot mode. To do so, you must hold Volume UP and plug device to PC.
-next go to https://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/ and finish the steps using your IMEI to get unlock KEY from Sony.
When you have the key, you will see instructions on the same site, what command you have to use in fastboot ADB. To get in Fastboot ADB:
-on your PC go to the folder (C:/adb/) where you installed minimal ADB and fastboot, hold shift + Right click, choose Open command window here.
-check if device is propperly connected. Write in CMD : fastboot devices . Your device should be listed there if it is connected in fastboot mode.
-now you have to write the command, same as on Sony site with the key: fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0x“your unlock code”.
example : – fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0x87eb234h6212g5646
-If it says OK [time] finished , you are done well.
After bypass FRP you can flash Android 7.0, there is no problem or security issues.

Guide is awesome. Only problem now, bypassing the Google account video does not work with Nougat which is what the flashtool downloaded by default for me.
Is there any other way please?
EDIT UPDATE: I found a way with another video on YouTube. Maybe could use this one also to update your guide. It worked for me. I thank you once again for this awesome guide, helping me to reset this phone.

Read 2nd step in instructions! First of all you have to downgrade the Android version !
thanks for bootloader unlocking method. For frp bypass you can follow this guide ~ http://www.frpghost.com/2017/03/sony-xperia-frp-unlock.html
My bootloader cannot be unlocked via Sony as my rooting status says NO. (Phone has Android 7.1.1) so even with your instructions I cannot root the phone and or downgrade to Android v7.0. Is this correct?

This is what I don't get it, my Z5P says NO in bootloader, so even so, can I do this process to unlock? or definitely i can't unlock it in any way
I haven't started the process yet, because first I would like to know if I can still unlock it with this process even if it says no in the configuration menu.... I'm still on 7.1
