Got a weird problem with my AT&T stock non-rooted S4. About 4 or 5 times since I got it on release day when I charge my phone and I get the notification that it's fully charged the screen won't turn back off. I use a Belkin Conserve socket that is set to shut off after 3 hours and I've woken up after charging to find the phone dead. I've managed to catch this happen once and when the fully charged notification comes on the screen won't go to sleep, it just stays on and flickers a little bit. For all but one of these instances I had blocking mode on so I'm not disturbed by email or text notifications in the middle of the night. It did happen one time when I didn't have blocking mode on. I use a pin lock for my lockscreen and usually have BeyondPod playing overnight (only one hour long podcast while it's still charging) if that makes a difference. Is the function that enables the screen to stay on when you're looking at it malfunctioning? Any help? I've attached two screenshots of battery life when this happens.

So in settings under the Developer Options, there is a setting "Stay awake" if checked screen will never sleep while charging. Now I see that your Belkin shuts off the power but your phones still detects the usb plugged into a power source.
I think things happen in this order: you hookup your phone to charge and shut off your screen, phone charges to 100% and screen lights up saying fully charged, it stays on because of that setting, Belkin kills the power, it is still hooked up to USB so ... you get the rest.
I would find that setting and disable it.
if your next question is "I don't see developers option" it is hidden by default in android 4.2.2 so to make it available, go to Settings > About phone and tap tap tap Build number seven times. Return to the previous screen to find Developer options. Or Indiana Jones might pop up and give you the cup to get eternal life !!!

In the developer's section of the settings, the stay on when plugged in is NOT checked.
Also, on our phones, we notice the phones overheating because the screen is on for hours at a time at night.
I've just spent an hour looking through the internet, and while many report this, they are simply being dismissed by others as in having "checked" the setting in developer section.
Also, when the batttery does get fully charged, the "Battery if full, unplug the power" notification also rings the default notification ringtone. I've installed phoneweaver to set my phone to no sound overnight, but it only stops the sound, the screen still stays on and phone gets really hot.
This is turning out to be a huge problem for us.

Do you use a PIN (number) lock? I did but switched to the pattern unlock and it hasn't happened since. Also, I've been trying to charge only during the day or evening, not overnight. Maybe, since I charge during the day and I use it periodically while it charges it doesn't go into a "deep sleep" like it would if it charges while sleeping and the full charge notification would keep it awake. I don't know exactly why but it hasn't happened since. Hope this helps.

Hi guys,
I have a problem with my Jade. I've charged it last evening and I've barely used it. When I've went to bed it was 96% charged (ARIELbattery) and 10 minutes used.
This morning, when I've woke up, The battery was 33% and and the phone was 34 minutes usage time.
Something is wrong. Since there were no bluetooth, no wifi, no anything activated. And for sure, nobody played with the phone during the night.
This is not the first time when I see this behavior, but is the first time when the decrease is so big.
I suspect an app, but I do not know which of them. How can I see it?
Do you have other suggestions?

There are some possible reasons:
Some SD-Cards seem to drain battery, so you can take it out for a test.
Some additional software is told to drain battery. Did you install something?
It is also helpful to switch to "flight-mode" over night. This normally reduces battery drain to nearly zero, if no additional consumers exist.

I've read those before posting, but there was no answer to my problem. I have 67% drop of battery in 8 hours without touching the phone.
This is most likely that your device goes to screenoff or unattended power state instead of sleep. Your power settings might be corrupted. To change that go to your power settings advanced tab and change everything there (checkboxes and sliders), press ok and then change them back as they were, press ok. I'd suggest to keep the device turning off in one minute while on battery and none of the checkboxes for cord powered mode. There is a really freaky thing that even if you get your device to sleep with power button it will go back to screenoff mode after time specified by the turn off device slider while on battery IF you don't have that turn-off-while-on-battery checkbox checked there.

Thanks for the answer. But I do not really understand what you are saying here.
My power settings are: 30sec for Screen Light and 1 min for Device (on battery).
None of the check boxes is set for the case when the device is powered.
It could also be due to the battery defect. After some time the battery could lose its storage ability (because of the defect), despite the mAH stated.
As a comparison, my battery is nearly one year old. On full charge, overnight drawdown (on sleep mode) is about 2%-3% .

I have no own experiences with this programs but Skype for example needs permanent connection to internet when activated (be care of the background job!). This uses data connection and this drains battery. I can not quantify this in %. In addition Skype does not allow the system to switch to deep sleep because it needs permanent connection!
None of the app was started. I just have Skype installed, but it was not used.

I found some German threads that discuss a problem with this software and battery life. Some loose 10% over night others 50%. I think you should try to uninstall (and afterwards soft-reset!) for a night and see what happens.
Please keep us informed.
First of all, I've disabled the 3G. Now it only gsm with gprs. Since I've done this it seems the battery drop is ... super ok. If yesterday morning I've had 33%, this morning I've had 20%, so 13% drop in 24h, and the phone was used normally as before.
last night the S2U2 was not started.
I will wait until the battery level reaches 10% an I will do a full charge.

So now, 2 weeks later... after setting my Jade to GSM only (no 3G) I get 7-8 days of normal usage. As I said, before I always had to charge it the third day.
Normally, i get -28mAh drain in standby. When the screen is on around -130mAh (for wake up) and then -70mAh. In a gsm call i get around -250mAh.
I did not switch the phone back to 3G yet, but I will and I will see again the battery drain.
PS: the values were provided by Mobadi.
i believe i have S2U2 installed... and my phones fine!
i have the overloaded rom... and battery life seems great only needs charging every 3 or so days and i do use it quite alot!
so...
after some time of testing and re-testing I still have, from time to time, the behavior that during night I see a massive drop in battery level and an increase of the usage time.
I do not know what is going on, but I suspect that some app is waking up the device to do some work (without turning on the screen), and the Jade cannot go to sleep anymore for a while.
I've notice the same behavior on a HTC Diamond 2.
Since none of the app I have installed on my Jade are installed on my friends Diamond2, I have no idea what app could do that.
If anybody has any idea, feel free .... I am idea-less!
I've made myself a little application to log the current values of the power data. So, I've saw that my phone wakes up each hour by himself, without turning on the screen, does some work (cca -70mA) and after 30sec goes back to sleep.
Any ideea about this?
I left my nexus one, which I just got on Friday, next to the TV and it was fully charged. When I came back to it about 4 hours later it had turned its self off and wouldn't turn on until I connected the charger. The battery was at 0%, anyone seen anything similar?
I have now left the phone off, connected to an AC charger and will turn it back on only when it's fully charged!
Sounds like you got yourself a defective unit.
Charger it fully then let it completely die. After it dies charge it again fully see if that helps.
Charging via the USB cable does not seem to be very efficient/reliable. Using the AC charger is quite fast, and much more reliable.
Also check the apps that are running in the background, and turn off the ones you don't need. I discovered that the animated wallpaper was quite a drain... since I switched to a static wallpaper image, battery life has improved significantly.
It has the star field wall paper, but I didn't think that would run when the phone is locked and the screen was blanked. I'll leave it to fully charge, using an old nokia charger from a n85.
So the recommendation is to run it tomorrow until it dies then charge in the off state and only turn on when it's fully charged?

I have the same problem. I got the phone approx. 1 week ago. before i go to work, I would have a fully charged phone. during lunch break break, ( about 4 hrs later from fully charged) its below half already! then 2 hrs later, its at to the point where it says connect your charger. Finally, off work, Phone is turned off and dead at 0% battery life. When im working, i dont even use the phone to browse or anything. just check the time on it and put it back on standby. I dont know whats wrong. Ive also rooted the phone btw with MoDaCo's rom. Any suggestions?
It was fulling charged again about 3 hours ago, not I've left it without wi-fi and with a static wallpaper and the battery is still full. I wonder if the wi-fi or the live wallpapers keep running even when the screen is off. I have checked and wi-fi is set to sleep when screen is off :-/
While modern batteries don't have the "memory" problems that cause them to lose life, they can suffer from miscalibration which will cause them to inaccurately report their remaining charge. If they report a very low charge to the phone (when this may not necessarily be true) the phone will probably turn itself off.
To recalibrate your battery, force it to drain completely. Even after the phone turns itself off, turn it on a few times more. I can't guarantee this is good for your phone, but it should get the last of the juice out. Then, when you let it charge, let it charge LONG after it reports being full, at least a few hours, to make sure it's completely full.
Sounds like something isn't quite right with your phone tbh. I have the star field wallpaper, wifi on and it's checking e-mails for 2 accounts every 15 mins.
I've also had some phone calls, been surfing the web, market and generally played around with it since I just got it on friday.
I checked the battery info on the phone now and it's been 15 hours since I charged it and it's now on 46% still. In my (limited) experience the battery seems to hold up pretty good on this phone.
That's the weird thing, it was fine Friday night and Saturday night and that was including quite a bit of playing with around
I received my phone last week. the battery was fine the first four days. after that the same problem stated above happened to me. the battery dies every 4 or 5 hours even in standby with no GPRS, WIFI or BT.
I did a complete wipe-out and the problem was gone.
I think that there were something that is draining the battery and gone with the wipeout.
by the way, i was using MCR and still using it.

It has now been sitting for another 7 hours without wi-fi or starfield and the battery is still showing full. I'll now enable wi-fi and see how that goes. Then I'll try statfield later on. I'm wondering if the starfield keeps running even if the screen is blanked.
Actually it's showing 92% in the About page whereas the icon look full :-/
First day with nexus at work. Unplugged it from the main charge at 6:30 am at till 1:00 pm its was turned off. Made 3 short calls, no wifi, bluetooth, or gps and screen set to auto dim.
Only 6 1/2 hours is not long enough. I wish there was like a juice pack for nexus like the iphone. I could buy another battery but cannot be bothered carrying too many bits with me and opening it and changing.
Aslo charging through usb is very very slow.

I think it was searching for a 3G signal all night and that's what killed it. Try limiting it to 2G and see how the battery stands. I went a full two days without a charge, playing with it every chance I got and wifi turned on.
I'll try the 3g thing as the phone reception is poor in the room I left it. It is at 79% with the star fields wallpaper and wi-fi enabled (sleeps when screen off)

The star field wallpaper KILLS my battery even when the phone is idle with the screen off, just FYI... I switched to a default regular wallpaper and it has been fine since.

There gotta be something wrong with your phones or some software that is draining it.
Like I said on the previous page I use:
WiFi on
Star Field live wallpaper, with the background image nontheless
Some GPS use
Several phone calls
Some texting
Browsing the web
Screen brightness at maximum
2 email accounts updating every 15 mins
My battery still lives through the day with ease and I'm usually at 40% when I go to bed at around 1 am. I would call HTC or do a thorough check at what software is running.

So to start out with here is what I posted yesterday from another thread...
"I got my HD2 last night. I used it for a bit right out of the box, went to bed and soon after I woke up in the morning it was dead.
My wife who also got her HD2 last night did basically the same thing. We both put our phones on the chargers. I was out doing yard work while mine was charging. My wife stayed inside and played with hers while it was on the charger. She unplugged it when it said it was done. When I came in from working I went to my phone and the light was green indicating a charged battery. I unplugged, turned on, it said 100% charged and started messing with it. Within minutes it said 4% battery life left and soon after it died. I then took it back in and plugged it back in. I turned it on this time to verify that it was charging. It stayed on the charger until it said it was 100% charged.
I have had it off the charger for 5 hours or so. I was using it a lot for the first hour or so, setting things up and getting it where I wanted it. I then left it alone and it has been sitting for the past 4 hrs. When I left it sitting it said it was at around 80% battery I believe. I just came back to it and it is again at 4% and telling me it is about to die. Then it did die.
I have gmail setup with activesync on default settings as well as direct push. I had done an end all with task manager just before I set it down. I do understand that the phone is active even when I am not using it but I would not expect this much battery drain.
I have the Stock Rom and the display auto dims on the default setting as well.
I love the phone but it seems like something is wrong with mine. Any suggestions?
BTW: My wifes HD2 is still running and has ~75% battery life left. She has been using it on and off for the entire day (10+ hrs) and wifi has been turned on the whole time too. This sounds more reasonable.

I have been checking in on the phone periodically while it has been charging. It has been charging with the phone turned off. It seems to have taken ~1hr to charge 100%. The green light it on now. Is this a pretty standard amount of time for it to charge to 100%?"
So last night after I got my phone off of the charger I used it a good amount throughout the night. From 5:20PM until around 1:00AM it drained to around 60%. I thought that this was a good standard amount. I was using it in bed and before falling asleep to drain as much as I could because I wanted it dead in the morning. I just woke up and the phone was dead (so was my wifes). I went to plug them both in at the same time to compare charging times and and then I was going to compare battery life.
I plugged my wifes in and it started charging no problem. I then plugged mine in and it instantly started to boot up. It got to the boot screen and it started looping. It was stuck in a boot loop every time I plugged it into the charger. I swapped chargers with my wifes and it did the same ... but hers charged fine on the one mine was on. I ended up popping the battery out for a minute and then putting it back in. Put it back on the charger and it started to charge no problem.
I have experience with WinMo phones in the past and am used to/expecting some "quirkyness" but this seems like something is wrong. I am not sure however at this point if it is the battery or the phone. I am letting it charge now and planned on swapping the battery with the one in my wifes to see how it acts in a different phone. Any other suggestions? I love the phone but I want to know if there is a problem before the time for me to return it for another runs out. Thanks for any help.
It's the phone. The phone is having a considerable amount of issues. Some people are getting good, fine HD2s, other are getting bad seeds. Take it back, exchange for a new one.

Both phones started charging at the same time. One (mine) was done charging in about 1.5 hrs. The second (my wifes) took closer to 2.5 hrs. I swapped the batteries and my phone turned on without problem, with my wifes battery in it. While hers seemed to have trouble getting going, I had to take the battery out and replace it before I could get it to boot. They are both up and running, with similar services running as well. I will continue to observe throughout the day to see how they drain in comparison to the other.
Is it possible that the phone is not charging the battery properly? If this is the case then my wifes phone would have worse battery life with my battery in it, but it would actually be my phone that would be the problem. I think that I am going to have to take both phones through at least one more charging cycle to see where the problem lies.
I am certainly leaning toward exchanging it for another though. What is the time limit for returning without question at T-Mobile US?
I have been watching both phones this morning. I have noticed that the signal strength on my phone bounces all over the place while sitting still on the table. My wifes phone sitting right next to it will generally hold a steady 2 bar 3G signal. This bouncing around of the signal strength and the searching for a signal is probably what is causing the battery drain. Just as I sit here and type this my phone has gone from a 1 bar EDGE signal to 3 bar 3G signal.
I have come to the conclusion that my phone is messed up and I will return it. I think that I have 14 days to make this return but I am not sure.
here are some battery saving tips that helped me, I hope the work for you without having to do a return
Turn wifi off when not in use, the 3g connection seems to use far less battery power. Also make sure establish data connection is turned off.
Turn off push and anything that auto downloads like weather and email.
Before locking the phone, open task manager and close pretty much anything open.
That should improve things greatly.

I assume you are talking about the toggle in the wireless settings for "data connection". What exactly does this do? If it is switched off I assumed that it would not make a data connection at all. Does it instead keep a constant data connection when turned on?

It's just a switch to change states whenever you want to manually...if 3G is activiated by some program, the switch moves to "on", and you can go in there and switch it to "off" if you want to kill the 3G while it's not needed. It will stay off until either 1) you use that same switch to turn it back on, or 2) some app/process (weather update, gmaps, etc) turn it back on. There are cabs available if you want to keep 3G switched off to the point where even apps can't switch it back on, and they're forced to use EDGE.
And yes, any time that switch is "on", you're maintaining a live data connection with the network, which is a battery drainer even if you're not actively passing data for an app.

It just stays awake all the time. If I turn the screen off the minute a message or anything comes in the screen wakes and stays awake so near impossible to keep it off for any length of time.
I do have the developer screen enabled and had stay awake whilst charging option enabled. I disabled that to make sure that this wasn't causing the screen to stay awake thinking it was somehow on the charger when it wasn't however the problem persists even with that option unchecked.

Does it stay awake but go very dim? I have this issue too.
can it be caused by the screen protector blocking the light sensor somehow?
Can you install BBS (BetterBatteryStats) and see what's keeping your phone awake?
Sounds like a FULL_WAKE_LOCK is constantly being imposed on your phone.
Questions
Is it only when you put it for 30s?
What's around your pocket when you put your phone in it?
Do you have any attachments onto your phone? e.g. skin protectors, cases...etc
Does this occur on any screen or just your home screen and the developer options screen?
Though some questions may be obvious, the best method is to be thorough with the situation. Answering these questions will help us better help you.
My phone shut itself down about an hour ago (plenty of battery left as I had to charge it earlier and was at 50% when it did come back on). It took several minutes before it would respond to getting turned back on again. I've got 2 messages since and the screen is now tuning off as it should. I had turned the phone off a few times to see if it rectified yesterday however that didn't work.
The problems wasn't anything to do with me having it in my pocket as the problem still existed when I had it sitting on my desk. I have no screen protectors or case and I never put it in any pocket that has anything else in it as I don't want to ruin too quickly.
So not sure what's going. All seems very odd. Hopefully not a sign that the phone is on the way out but looks ok for now. Will have to watch and see what happens over the next few days.

I'm not sure if my problem is with OxygenOS or Nougat, but I've scoured the internet for months and haven't found an answer
I have two problems that I think are linked to doze mode on my device, and they both occur under the same conditions. First is my alarm clock (Alarm Clock Xtreme) doesn't work in the morning, and second is my Samsung Gear Fit 2 needs manually reconnected each morning. And through troubleshooting I've determined the problem occurs under rather unique conditions. The problem ONLY occurs when my phone is plugged in and sits overnight (so fully charged sometime during the night). Which is most nights, because I want a full battery in the morning.
But if I happen to go to bed and leave the phone unplugged, the alarm clock WORKS in the morning and the smart watch stays connected all night. So unplugged overnight, no problems. Plugged in, alarm clock won't work and Bluetooth connection to smart watch is dropped.
I haven't been able to find an answer in the 3 months I've had my OnePlus 5. Any thoughts?
Specs: OnePlus 5, Oxygen OS 4.5.10, Nougat 7.1.1.
I can also move this post elsewhere if there is a more appropriate area of the forum for this question. But I don't have this problem with my old device.
You can try disabling battery optimization for selected apps.

Thanks, but I already tried that. It doesn't work.
It's probably the apps man if you think about it. Try using a different application and report back.

I actually had another alarm clock app before, that was doing the same thing. And I don't really have an alternate application for the watch.
I've researched this fairly extensively and have only been able to grasp small nuggets of insight. I did find one source on xda (but I can't remember where I saw it) that talked about doze mode acting funny when the phone is plugged in to charge. Basically an inability to wake from doze under certain circumstances.

You can always enable Developer Options and choose the option for the screen to stay awake while charging which should also keep your phone awake. You can also disable Doze completely in Developer Options.

Thanks! I don't want to disable doze, but I might try that other one. My other quick fix I juts thought of is to use a timer switch or smart switch to have the charger shut off after an hour. That's enough to give me a boost, but not fully charge. I tried it last night and everything worked this morning. Though my battery was only at 60%, it was better than nothing.

It's recommended these days to keep your battery charged between 40%—80% to prolong its life and not keep the phone plugged in overnight like in the old days. I charge mine to 80% before going to bed.
If it's actually a Doze issue I don't understand why it wouldn't happen when the phone isn't plugged in. Do you have a screen saver enabled?
Fellow OP5 user here, I have the EXACT same problem.
If I leave the phone charging for long time and doze kicks in, the phone basically shuts down for all purposes until I unlock it with my pattern. Meaning, only the built in alarm (that works even with the phone turned off) will work. Any other (Timely, radio...) won't.
Now here's the kicker: sometimes the deep sleep will cause a weird bootloop, upon which the screen will indefinitely hang on the spinning logo, with the screen turned on, requiring a reboot. And of course this makes the alarm not sound.
This last bit happens at random. If I disable the screen sleeping in Dev options, the alarm will work but when I wake up the pattern input screen would be there, after all night on, which isn't really healthy for the screen.
Turning doze off makes this problem apparently disappear, but I need to investigate some more to draw conclusions. For the time being I sleep without charging, quick charge and the phone's great battery makes it unnecessary to keep it connected all night.
Another fun tidbit of this deep sleep mode: it stops USB tethering. I would have imagined a wakelock in there, but apparently there isn't.
For information : I use vanilla kernel and OOS. I have Magisk on and Gravitybox via Xposed Magisk, but other than that I have nothing particular going on.
I've been hearing that from other sources as well, about not letting it sit overnight on the charger at 100%. Which is why I think I'm gonna keep using the smart switch of my nightstand charger. The OnePlus Dash charging system works great for a quick charge anyways, so having 100% fully charged to last all day long is no longer necessary. I have a normal USB cable at my night stand, so it's a slow charge. If I set the timer to stop after an hour it at least gives me a small charge overnight, without overdoing it. And I have dash charger at work to give me the full quick 20 minute charge that puts me at 60-70%.
No I don't have a screensaver running. It is weird that the phone locks in the doze mode for the alarm and boots me off my watch's BT connection, but only when plugged in and sitting at a full charge for an extended time (haven't stayed awake all night to test just how long it has to sit). But that IS what it IS. Those have been confirmed as the only conditions in which this problem arises. I've been using the smart switch for 3 days now to keep my phone from going to and staying at 100%, and the alarm clock is working again and the watch is staying connected.
It's not that it's a big of a deal for me to have to use a work around like this. I don't mind. But I hate finding a glitch in something and not being able to truly "fix" it. Work-arounds work. But they don't actually solve the problem. This is just a gripe I have in general whenever something like this happens. It's in my nature to want things to work properly. Which is why I haven't had a non-rooted device in at least 5 years. I NEED to have the ability to fix the [email protected]$$ sh1t the software developers and phone manufacturers screw up. Of course, that's probably the number one reason xda exist. This open up the full potential of these devices, because the manufacturers are either too dumb or are financially motivated to not fix things (ahem...Samsung). It has been my experience with this phone so far that doze mode doesn't work. At all. I regularly have widgets that won't update even though I have doze turned off...
Just one of the many annoyances that has me thinking about finally rooting and getting rid of this garbage os...
