At Christmas I will receive my HTC Touch HD and this is why I have started reading all the Blackstone thread since a month.
That is what I understand so far(correct me if I am wrong):
-Hardware: big screen,a bit less contrast than Diamond, but impressive resolution and really (probably for the first time) user-friendly device
-Battery: better than Diamond's one..up to 2 days of normal use
-Video performance: still a lot of work, but coreplayer works fine with low size movies or videos. At the moment there is no access to the internal GPU and only WMP can play smooth .mp4...big hopes for the future. People disappointed due to high hardware capability not used
-Audio performance: quality comparable to Ipod/Iphone, but TF3d interface has still some bugs to be fixed..however, a lot of 3rd software to choose the software we like most ( S2P for example)
-Camera performance: still a bit confused, it seems to be a "standard" 5mp compared to the level of other devices (nokia or sony-ericsson)...however there is no thread that show exactly the power of this camera with lot of pictures in different environments
-Navigation GPS: few bugs to be fixed, but we can use igo8, Navigon 7 and Tomtom 7 in high resolution
-Customization: like the other wm..you can do really what you want (change today, apply tons of software, etc etc)..there are no limits so far, except the hardware's ones.
-Games: let's say that the TOUCH HD is more a "business device" with media specifics...but still far from Iphone games. Let's hope in the future like for the video performance.
-Development: HSPL not yet released (after we would have a huge choice of ROMs!!!..)...hopefully a christmas gift

That astonishes me. I never get more than about a day with only sending SMS and nothing else. Whoever comes up to two days please tell me (and perhaps others) how to achieve that. I even stopped active sync and used the trick (empty active sync server) to not let it start automatically. Is there anything (perhaps obvious for others) I missed?
I think you just about summed it up.
It is a really nice device with lots more potential.
I'm sure you won't be disappointed this christmas!!

there's probably something wrong with your device cause i always get over a day and a half at least i mean have a look this has been covered several times snd most members appear to agree that the battery has improved especially in comparison to the kaiser and diamond both very loved handsets
I must confirm, marvi0 is right. The battery should last for over a day to two days when the device is sporadicaly used.
What I see as potentional problems could be these:
1) bad radio version (i remember these issues on HTC Hima with old ROMs, they could drain battery twice fast than usual).
2) some creepy app, that takes too much CPU use. Remember that the more the CPU is used, the more batt is spend. The power-off works that way: it not only turns off screen, it also sends windows to some sort of standby mode, when most of the apps are suspended. But - if some app could not get to this state, it runs on full throttle on the background. I remember such issue with playing with WM5 screensaver and MortScripts. Check your taskbar, what is running there.
My battery now lasts up to 5 x days max if I use Tweak HD suggested settings throughout! This is an excellent App. As per the camera I wish this could be fixed / replaced with something like I originally used on my Trinity since the adaptive zoom/focus causes rapid movement to alwas go blurred, whilst static images or landscapes are fine.

max i got from the battery was 3 days only doing a couple of calls and some sms, i don't use any massive tf3d personalization only changed the background image, installed s2u2, crystal clock and optimized the phone cache, but usualy it's around 1 and half, 2 days
My battery went from 100% to 48% in the space of about 8 hours on Sunday as I was doing lots of stuff on it, trying to get apps working, trying things out, installing, uninstalling etc.
I then had the phone on standby all night (was 48% before bed) and it has been on standby most of today with 1 phone call and a bit of video and calculator, and still on 48%
Okay, I now got my battery life up to about two days with some telephony and SMS and bluetooth always turned on by switching of the light sensor and using a fixed setting of two bars for the light when using battery. This is enough (at least for me) to see everything well on the device in every lighting condition.

I'm surprised with your short battery life. I used it almost non-stop and still had 50% left a day later. I find the battery life of HD amazingly good. However, I did took the pain to charge it properly before starting to use it. Although the manual said we need only 3 hours to charge it, I kept unplugging the power when the charge indicator turned green, then plug it in again. I kept repeating this process for about 2 hours after it first turned green. This might have something to do with the long battery life I'm getting, perhaps.

In the last few days, my battery has been eaten alive. And when I checked the culprit, the phone says it's Maps (Google Maps). This behavior just started a few days ago. I have GPS turned off and as far as I can tell, Maps is inactive. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix?
oooh...i have this problem too. it started a few days ago and google maps is showing usage as high as 85% and my battery is getting eaten up so fast. it never did that before...i wonder if it's from the update (I'm pretty sure i loaded an update just before it started but i can't remember)
anyone know how to fix this? I LOVE google maps and can't stop using it but i don't like my diminished battery, especially after finally getting great life out of it!
Spot on--I also did an update, but can't recall exactly when. If you go to the Manage Applications option and select Maps, there is an option for uninstalling the update. I did that and I'm going to see what effect that has.
By the way, another way this problem manifests itself is that it takes about twice as long to charge the phone as it did just a few days ago. So whatever is eating the battery (I still think its Maps) continues to draw lots of power when the phone is trying to charge.

I can confirm that Google Map = battery killer.
Same battery eating symptoms, I also uninstalled updates and am gonna see what the effects are.

This issue is getting a lot of user group exposure--wonder why no one here has commented on it? Rather than post a bunch of links, just Google "google maps android battery" and read up on it. Bottom line: apparently a reboot fixes the issue until you use Maps again. Then you have to reboot again. Sure hope Google is on top of this one!
I uninstalled the upgrade. What it does after the upgrade, is that if you kill it, it comes back in less than a second. It's there again. And it will never go away. At least with this app we have the option of uninstalling the upgrade. It's taking a lot of resources, and I seldom use it.... not worth it
Dunno if this is related, but when Yelp had an update a little while ago it was eating my battery up similarly, under battery use "Maps" would be in the 70-90% range of use.
They fixed this in a update a few days later, I'm sure this could also be taken care of.
By the way, I have done the froyo update and did a download of the latest maps and haven't noticed anything unusual in the battery use relating to maps, and I used the map app to find a few things.
Google Maps just received a significant update a few days ago with integration of Google Places directory...Looking in System Panel I see that there's a com.google.android.apps.maps: MapsBackgroundService...Dunno if that's been there I only just got System Panel 2 days ago.
I just uninstalled the maps update and noticed that the size of the program decreased from 8mb to about 2.5mb. I have also noticed a huge difference in my battery life as well since installing the update. Hopefully uninstalling it helps.

If you check Maps 4.4.0 reviews on Market, some others users have reported this problem.
Way to go Google Maps Android team!
Thought I was the only one having this problem. I actually just checked and its is up to 93%. They need to have it so you can quit it like you can navigation.

Settings >> Applications >> Manage Applications >> Running tab >> Maps >> Force Quit
Having same issue, I guess this was occurring months ago too. It didn't do this originally, now it just runs and runs. If you do a reboot it stops it completely...but that sucks. Hopefully we'll see an update SOON. I feel bad for people that don't really know about this or are very technical. They just say, oh my EVO sucks on battery life.
I had unistalled the update and reboot the phone and the battery life seems to be back to where it was (not great, but manageable). I just turned my phone on and had a notice that an update is available for Googler Maps. Does anyone know if this update was the one that was killing my battery or maybe, perhaps, I hope this update fixes the battery problem?

Nope, checked the market. Last update was 5 days ago.
This was happening to me occasionally, before the update. It happened almost every time I used google navigation (still shows up as "maps" in the battery screen). I found that I have to go to menu, exit on navigation to close it. Clicking the "back" button on the phone doesn't seem to properly exit it.
I haven't noticed it happening any more often since the update.

Google maps eating battery power solved!?
Have 7" Samsung tab and Galaxy S phone, both on Gingerbread and both with google maps 5.9.0. Tab's power usage was 2%. phone 20%!
Uninstalled google maps updates on the phone and power usage was so small it did not register on usage menu. Reinstalled updates and - hey presto - power usage just 2%, the same as the tab. Reckon its update piled on update that caused corruption and the massive increase in battery usage.
Try it. It only takes a few minutes!

I'm an owner of a samsung galaxy s5. never had trouble with battery so far. I could use it like on and a half day with some gaming music and internet. Now since 2 days My phone drowns the battery crazy during night. You can also see below in the images. when splitting the chart in half left side is during day, right side is during night. You can clearly see the power consumption is A LOT more during night. I don't know exactly why.
Just before 2 days ago I did these things:
I installed Angry birds. You see during day usage two steep battery usage drops. those are from playing angry birds.
I configured flipboard with my account and started using it for the 1st time.
I downloaded a new TTS voice pack for for google TTS engine for the google now I use now instead of the S Voice I hate.
for the rest there are a few apps that updated such as:
Antutu benchmark and speedtest, perhaps accuweather, can't remember for sure though these might be wrong.

This is a huge problem since I woke up yesterday to an empty battery.

Edit: Though yesterday the battery was completely drained and the phone closed. So technically it was restarted back then. Yet the problem occurred this night again.

Okay, this night I didn't have the problem anymore (after ai had the same problem 2 consecutive nights).
All I did was disabling and uninstalling all the apps I don't use (if it was possible of course, some apps such as the ELM Agent cannot be uninstalled).
So the programs I disabled are:
Flibboard
S Health
S Planner
S Voice
Smart Remote
For the most samsung services he phone offers I always hav ebeen using the google variant if possible
Programs I uninstalled:
Free App a Day (program giving that names a program every day that became free)
Diablo 3 dashboard (shows the statistics of my diablo 3 characters. This Always seemed to be running in the background, but I actually have no use to it so deleted it)
For the rest cannot remember for sure. But yeah problems seems to be solved for now, and I hope it won't happen again.
And it happened again for some reason.
As you can see in the screenshots.
About the game "unpossible" I forgot it on right before I was going to sleep and noticed it was running right before sleeping so I did close it. At the beginning of the graph, you can see a small dip, that is because of that game.

Also in the morning I noticed the ram was being used up 1.55GB of the 2GB. I restarted my phone and it was somewhere in the 900MB this time.
This is getting frustrating. I need to find the cause of this.

maybe Kaspersky is doing a full scan from time to time, when the phone is not used?
It will probably try that until the full scan is done.

Thanks for the reply. Though I would doubt that, since kaspersky only has one scan function which takes only a minute or two I mean A phone doesn't have much data on it compared to a computer.
Also if kaspersky was the cause why doesn't it show up on the battery statistics as the main power consumer?
But it could still be true as you said, will look into it. Thanks.
EDIT: Checked the app, it does have a scheduled scan option which is disabled by default.

Did you try uninstalling angry birds for a day or 2 to see if the use returns to normal?
Otherwise, I'd do that with each of the apps that you've added recently until you find the evil one...

I'm running Heptyle's kernel, .305 Custom DE and debloated with script.
I haven't reached conclusions yet but so far I think my battery life is better than .253
During app installation (clean installation) I got the feeling it ran less hot.
No further differences until now regarding to your other items.
I'm only going to run STOCK I'm not going to root the phone.
Nothing special here.
Volume for notifications got fixed. And security level is aug 2016 (shame on Sony)
The option to enable the google now pane in the Xperia Launcher (beta?) is back. Note that I did join that Google+ group for getting beta updates of the Launcher.
Camera format settings were reset for me after the upgrade. The version of the app is now 1.0.C.2.7 but I didn't check before the upgrade what it was.
So far it's been smooth, but nothing notably new.

I'm running 32.2.A.0.224 and heard bad things about .253 so have not updated.
I upgraded to the latest one (.305) from EE (UK) on Thursday, and accidently bricked the device (took over an hour to upgrade and so I forgot it was upgrading - d'oh) so have ended up with a clean install.
- battery life : At this time of the day I used to be at 52% (.253), currently 80% (has been off charge for 5 hours so far), was pretty poor for the first two days while Google Play music was hammering the WiFi connection downloading music (why can't it see what's already on the SD Card - argh!), but still an improvement of .253 which was appalling.
It used to be that Google Play Services and Android System were the top users by a country mile - today it's Screen (27%) and Beyond Pod (9%)
- overheating : Certainly running cooler
- phone/wifi signal : No issues before or since
- fingerprint sensor : No issues before or since
- camera photo quality : No issues before or since
- Bluetooth music jitter : As solid as it has been since the last upgrade, i.e. Bluetooth is problem free, Wired occasionally jitters approx 20 minutes after losing Wifi.
Or anything else?
WiFi Calling still temperamental (i.e. needing a reboot), less of an issue for me now I have VoLTE and new masts cover work and home better.

I hope this will fix things. On .253 I'm having issues with the finger print scanner, saying hardware is unavailable after long periods of not using the phone. Also, the camera crashes when trying to take a video. gifs and videos on apps such as facebook or youtube doesn't play too. Restart fixes things but it's annoying that I have to do it at the start of the day, every single day. Would love to hear from somebody with same issues who upgraded from .253

If I play any music (on full volume) for more than 1 seconds the volume level is reduced dramatically. My phone has never been in contact with water or anything. As of now I have turned the phone off/on and still no difference. I have used Google Play, Spotify and the same problem occurs.
On the other hand it doesn't heat up. Battery life seems a tad better if I recall so far. Other than that no difference apart from a message I got about battery charging.
Seems to be the hearing protection. New build.prop in .305 is without persist.audio.hp entry. Just re-add it to build.prop (persist.audio.hp=false), reboot and should be working again (you need to be rooted).

Ever have problems before?
Yes, I'm rooted (just check tobias waldvogels rootkernel thread), but you need to have unlocked bootloader first (don't forget to make TA backup!).
i found that the phone gets warm (more than previous firmware) when browsing the web using chrome.
i noticed that the sony email client doesnt check/update as quickly enough compared to previous firmware.
i did notice couple of things have been fixed, but my overall suspicion of this firmware is that it introduces more issues than it fixed.
also some kind of security has been introduced to stop you from hiding apps such as the quick apps bar.
im also curious why sony introduced that "battery optimization"? has it to do with maybe the batteries starting to bubble hence causing the back cover to crack? so by reducing the charge amount it sort of stops that from happening?
im also running stock firmware.
I would appreciate you come back w/ a review after a month of usage. If you have been using Android for a significant amount of time, then you know that it's always good in the beginning. I don't think much stock should be put in a review done after a day besides ease of installation and (maybe) initial impressions, imho
ive gone back to .253 firmware. this previous version seems to work much better on my australian z5 compact.
no heating issues. battery is better. email app works better etc. etc.
yes it does have the annoying low volume and a issue with the sms app (when trying to add certain photos). but overall to me it works better than .305 version.

A few weeks ago, I tried this. From @FcukBloat
But for me it didn't work. When I flashed, I got a message that the zip was corrupt (which I can't believe, and it's not the first time this happened). And I also had a problem with Online Nandroid, so in the end I had to redo it.
This time, I just did manually what the script should automate. Next time I'll figure out how to build it myself, if I'm smart enough.
So after a week of 305 vs 253 - I've managed to get through to the end of the day without needing to charge one or twice throughout the day every single day, the phone is running much cooler (i.e. most of the time there is no heat detectable), and is also less laggy, especially when launching the camera. Battery life is getting better by the day too - now at 60% (after being off charger for 12.5 hours) with Google Play Music, twitter, and an hour of MapMyWalk (so GPS usage) - on 253 I'd have been below 20% at this point of the day.

im also going pure stock unrooted locked bootloader ,at least till warranty void anyway\ OR the phone become really slow for some reason, and root will help
example: this phone got only 2GB RAM which very bad multitasking , and heavy apps like CSR2 left my phone with only 200MB .
so i guess il need more Swapfile\Z-ram @1s

I have a stock Moto X force for about 20 months.
I've been suffering from lagging lately (sometimes it takes a few seconds when trying to switch between apps or the keyboard becomes unresponsive). I think it got worse after the 7.0 update.
I've downloaded an app for system monitoring and I've noticed that at times of lag the internal disk activity is maxed (Read & Write are 100% (not sure exactly what that means)) (Can't add attachments). But, cpu performance and ram usage seems fine. I assume some app is causing this but have no suspects at the moment. How should I continue my debug from here ?

No OS upgrade was involved in my case, I have Nougat since a long ago.
Cache wipe did not help. Limiting background processes to 3 helped just a little (developer menu).

I've been noticing this problem too.
Not sure what the cause is.
I've factory reset and that seems to fix the problem for awhile, but it seems to come back over time.
Something in the stock rom must be cluttering the phone.

I faced that issue too! The last update was buggy maybe..and the moto services and rest apps by moto are eating a lot of ram and using a good amount of I/O

Hm I noticed after maybe 2 months of use or so?
Im on Latest Stock FW Android N ,using the device since 8months and not find any lag, in my case it lacks a bit when heated a lot.
I didnt disable any of the Moto Services though.
Try using Greenify if it solves the issue. I will not unlock my phone till it gets 14-15month old and see whether the same happens to me
It is strange... In my case the phenomenon suddenly disappeared some weeks ago, so I think some system update messed it all and later another update solved it. I have the impression it was a system problem and not a particular app, because I tried to uninstall the more suspicious apps without appreciating any change.
