[Q] Without custom ROM, the Q completely dead? - Nexus Q Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After the new Play Music apps released, I no longer able to stream music to the Q.
Do you think this is the Q last breath?

I'm also really sad about this issue. My current workaround is to use my old Nexus One with a 4.5 version of the play music app. I have 5 Nexus Q in my place and integrated them completely into my ambiance automation for volume changes & mute control in every room. My escape route from this lingering doom is to write some kind of RTP receiver for the Q's and a UPnP renderer app that doesn't just play locally but also broadcasts to the other Q's. Since I want to keep using Google Music the source will be provided by BubbleUPnP, it has an option to provide your Google Music account as a UPnP media server. I will most certainly miss the beauty of the official Google Music app for remote control, but I don't see another way without loosing the Q's.

Vegacomb - can it stream music from PC?

Hi guys, my Vega will be arriving this week, since it will be always on the same network as my PC, is there a way to play music or playlists stored on the PC to the Vega (will be running Honeycomb)
I would prefer the playlists to be on the tablet so the wife can set some up rather than her going to my PC to do anything.
cheers
You can try Google Music Beta. It Uploads music to the Google servers, and you can play it anywhere, anytime

I'm in the UK, there's no Google Music here
I'm in the Netherlands Ever heard of proxy servers?
cheers, but can it stream music from my PC?
The easiest method is to use CIFS Manager to create a link to your PC share and just open the files up using any Audio player. PowerAmp is the leader for playing music but personally I found it to be a pain to setup. Give it a go with setting up the share and if you come across any problems post them here and I'll see if I can help out.
Good luck!
I agree with using CIFSmanager, it works very well for streaming video and audio to your Vega. However, when i tried it couldn't get Poweramp, winamp or the default player to browse to the share (even if it was mounted in /sdcard) so in the end I used MortPlayer Music. It's not the most pretty interface but it works well until one of the other players adds support for browsing CIFS.
cheers guys, much appreciated
I know that being a thread necromancer isn't cool or anything but maybe someone really wants to stream audio/video etc from PC like a boss.
Take a look at orb.com

[Q] Best / easiest way to manage/sync music to N4?

What is the most seamless way to sync music files to my internal storage beyond the Play Music app? Ideally it would be an app / program that would let me do it over wifi.
For reference, I would prefer it to be compatible with a macbook.

Seeing as you're a mac user, I'm assuming you use itunes. If so, try this out:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wxLDEwMiwiY29tLmpydHN0dWRpby5pU3luY3I0TWFjIl0.
I use media monkey to organize all my music files. Then I upload it to Google music and it just shows on my phone without taking any space. Its worth doing specially if you plan on flashing Roms and wiping your data often. Google music give it a try. You can manage it online too
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Another vote for iSyncr. Works great over wifi with my Mac and iTunes. I've used it through 2 or 3 phones at this point, and never had a problem with it. It will also backup pics/vids from your phone to your computer.
Ok, thanks for the input. I'll check out iSyncr - I'd used it a while ago on my Droid X but it looks like it's gotten a lot of new features since then.
And to clarify, I do use Google Music, I just really don't like the app, so I figured I can use another player for local files and then use the google music app if i want to listen to anything not store locally.

[Q] Handsfree music control

I am commuting every day and using Waze app for traffic. I also connect my Nexus 4 to the AUX port of my car for music. Since the Waze app is always on, I need to pull the notification bar down to reach the music controls. However, the buttons are very small and due to the distraction it is actually dangerous trying to select the next track. Is there a better way to control the music player in this situation? An app would let me say a voice command to change the song I am listening and so on? Thanks!
Overlays
I haven't found a perfect solution, but I downloaded "Overlays" from the play store.
I use Rocket Player, so I created a profile that overlays one of the Rocket Player Widgets over the Waze App while it's running. It's not ideal, but it's better than me having to drop down menu, similar to yours.
Ideally I'd like Waze to interact with my player so I can use it hands free.
Hope this helps!

Alternative to google play music?

Been using google play music for many years. But with the latest update it's not working well on nougat roms and when its working, it again and again asks to subscribe. Offline music search gets crippled.
So any suggestions of a music app that supports searching and choosing what to play next?
thanks.
SoundCloud Anyday
Power amp, best app i've ever used, easy and many cool features.
Are you looking for a local player or streaming? Makes a huge difference...
n7player, Neutron, BlackPlayer, MediaMonkey, Pulsar, or PowerAMP as mentioned before...
God... I miss WinAMP!!!
Shuttle its pretty nice, but im using this port https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...sony-xperia-music-9-3-5-0-0-port-apk-t3555386
@acejavelin I'm looking for a local player.
I personally like VLC for its ability to play formats like WMA. It does have a search function and ability to create playlists.
Black Player EX is the best to use
@acejavelin Really strange, when I got this phone 8 months ago and logged into Google the first time it reinstalled Winamp for me, but it is not in the play store or my app list.
I've used PowerAMP for over 3 years, love it.

Question: How do i manage music on my Pixel 4?

Good morning everyone.
Hope your all having a fantastic day.
This is more of a general android quesiton i suppose rather then a pixel 4. but being brand new to #teampixel thought i would ask.
while i have spotify and dont plan to use music on my phone to often, nice to have for them data black spots.
So i am gonna transfer over a few albums, just wondering what apps you are all using to manage albums and art work?
And then where are you putting your music on the device? surely i shouldn't just dump everything into the downloads folder.
Thank you for your time in reading this post, and hope your able to help.
Kind regards
Liam
You can use a simple Music Player Aimp / Poweramp ... Foobar
I copy the files to the Music folder from my PC.
Even though Google play music is being discontinued this year I'm still using it over YouTube music. I can access my music library on my computer and on my phone. Works great with Android auto too.
Hey there,
just use the preinstalled "YT Music" App. There you can manage your YouTube music and your local music, it also supports the "Motion Sense".
Regards,
Sebastian
