Hi All,
I was browsing the web a couple of hours ago and my N10's screen started flashing on/off and after around 10secs the thing crashed/turned itself off. Being an N10 this was not an unusual event! However when I try to turn it back on nothing happens. I can hold the power button / power button with volume buttons pressed and nothing happens. If I plug it in to charge I do not get even get a charging icon.
If it makes any difference I was running the latest Rasaber with Franco's r11 kernel and I know I had at least 40% battery left when it died. I have left it plugged in to the stock charger for around an hour hoping that something might happen but still nothing.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?
There was not a sad enough looking Emoticon to convey my sadness over the possibility my lovely Manta is dead......

Something similar happened to me but I'm totally stock. I Googled and the solution was to recharge the unit via my PC USB instead of plugging it into an outlet. I have no idea what happened but after a few hours of being connected to my PC it was back and working. Hope that helps.
I'm running the same rom and kernel combo. No problems or anything weird happened. It must be hardware related.
Did you try the holding-the-power-button-for-a-minute routine?
I would try to leave it plugged in on the charger for a while and see if it gets fixed. That usually solves all sorts of "wont turn on" problems

is it possible for the tablet to get overheated?
I have had that happen on stock.
My theory: it is linked to the 'battery status not updating'-bug. Your Nexus thinks the tank is still half full, while in fact you are running on fumes. It does not realize this, so no dimming of screen, no low power warning, it just goes full steam ahead, until the battery is totally and utterly and completely depleted.
Then, obviously, it won't start but it will also have trouble charging. You need to charge it for quite some time, sometimes try a different charger, and sometimes keep the power button depressed for a full minute for it to come back to life.
Now when I use my Nexus, I keep an eye on the battery status. If it does not go down, I know I need to reboot for the battery status to be read properly again. It is a bit of a bother, but not too much. The bug only kicks in after the tab has been lying around for a while sleeping. So if I want to watch a movie, I first reboot. As long as I keep using the tab (i.e.watching the movie), the bug won't 'activate' and the tab will shut off properly when it senses the battery is low, in stead of continuing and deep depleting the battery.

I was using my Xoom browsing web pages about 20 minutes ago, then I flicked off the screen. Now the screen remains off, no leds are blinking and the power button does nothing. I have it plugged into a power source.
How does one remove the battery to get a hard reset?
Anything else I can try?
Apparently a "forced reboot" fixed this issue. I held the up volume + power and then it turned on.
This happened to me last night too. If it happens again before my 14 day return period is up, I'll be returning the unit. I don't mind any of the other shortfalls which we knew in advance about, but locking up while in sleep mode is not acceptable to me.
Were you low on battery? Every report of this so far were people low on battery. The calibration may be off in software, the device thinks it has enough battery, but it doesn't and shuts down ungracefully. This probably leaves it in a fault state that needs a reboot to get out of.

I pulled it off the dock at 100%, read my book for about an hour, put it into sleep. Drove home after about 3 hours and then tried to turn it on and it wouldn't. I can't imagine the battery was remotely low.
Hi,
My battery info screen is always showing 0% - Unknown. I´ve tried different charging options but with no success.
The battery is charging and when I connect the Nexus 7 to the adapter/pc is says charging - 0% when locked.
Any help is appreciated.

Had the same problem. It was not ROM specific. Even though the reading said 0 it was still charging normally (as far as I could tell).
I called Google (I bought my Nexus 7 from the Play Store) and they replaced it. I think that the battery sensor was bad.

Just to let everyone know I tried both that app and clearing battery sats in CWM, neither did anything. I even ran it dead and then fully charged with no change. The OP may have a different problem but in my case I definitely think it was a hardware sensor issue.

Um, weird, I came home after leaving my tablet on my desk all day at home, with about 35% battery.
It was dead. Like really dead. Dead dead. I don't know if it should've run down 35% totally idle; I'd left it for 3 days before without a problem.
Now when I plugged it in, it turned straight on. Google Screen -> Lock Screen. No colored X.
Showed 0% for 10 minutes. The battery graph was especially weird. For one thing, it had locked the stats and showed as still on battery basically. For another, it showed going from the low end of green to instantly dropping to 0%, red. Unplugged it, and it died instantly.
I'm letting it charge now with it off. Quick power button press shows the charging indicator thing.
I actually have an RMA out for this one for the touch screen issues, so it doesn't matter, but still... weird.

Old thread but I thought I'd add to it for other people with the same problem.
I have basically have the same issue on a stock, rooted 16GB Nexus 7. It's highly intermittent.
It first reared it's head about a month after I got the device (in Aug 2012), on the original firmware. My nexus 7 wouldn't (appear to) charge past 25% and would shut itself off after being on for only a few hours. I spent a day trying to fix it, including wiping the device, but nothing worked. Then magically, a few days later, the problem was gone.
The Nexus 7 worked fine for another month or so and then one day, after having charged it for several hours, I noticed that it was reporting a 0% charge. (Firmware was still stock but had been updated) This time it didn't power off, it just misreported it's charge. I could still run it for 10 hours or so, even though it said that it had a 0% charge and that I should connect the charger. I tried the "battery calibrator" mentioned in this thread which didn't seem to work but the next day, the device reported it had a charge. It's been randomly fluctuating between reporting 0% and a having charge every since. Sometimes it works fine for several days but then it will say 0% again.
It hasn't really affected my use of the device but it can be inconvenient not knowing how much charge you have left. Today I finally called Google and explained the problem and they promptly offered to exchange it. Hopefully this is not a design flaw but a faulty component from bad batch..
There's more than a good bit of bad advice in this thread. That anyone would waste people's time by recommending a ”battery calibration” app or to wipe battery stats is disheartening, as it is widely known that they have no correlation to battery indication.
More often than not, it seems, this problem with the N7 involves the battery connector not being properly seated.

I'm also having a similar problem, though when my nexus 7 completely dies from the battery I plug in and right away power back up and when it comes to the home screen with 0-1% charge it right away powers down. I tried leaving it off while pluged in let it charge for 5 mins and then power back up again till I see it have a minimum amount of charge, it seems to work not sure if its ROM or kernel related, I'll keep an eye on it.

Finally open the back cover (quite easy) and found that the battery cable connector is loose. So I tightened and my tablet is well again.

Yeah what worked for me was to also unplug my battery. Seemed to correct itself after that. Mine would shut off showing a charge of 60%.

Does the back just unsnap like a regular battery door?
I have issues sometimes. Like the other night it charged all night and when I woke up it was fine, turn off the alarm on it and had breakfast. Came back and it wouldn't come on. Tried all I could without taking it apart. Ended up removing the back cover, unplugging the battery for ten seconds and then it worked fine. Battery was at 100% once it booted up.

Use your fingernail to get between it and the chassis. It pops off pretty easy. Just be careful. I'm sure YouTube has a few videos showing it.

Hi.. I Have the same model and I had the same problem...
I made the turn off method (https://plus.google.com/+DerekRoss/posts/563EVVEPMDS) and did not work...
I rooted my Nexus to calibrate the Battery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838429) and did not work.
But the in my case the most simple solution works : Unplug /plug the Battery (http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/mobile/Knrn4DThksg/ovuWYHUytZ0J).

i have experienced a few time of battery run out, the n7 have like an error runny where like crazy and then the screen went off, and when turn on right after that with the charger in, it will be on for like 2mins, and then the screen running like crazy again
just want to know is it a common thing? cuz i had 2 n7 and it have the same problem
Could you explain in detail what you mean by saying "the screen is running like crazy" or maybe post a photo?

When you say the screen went crazy I'm guessing you mean filled with static and wavy lines. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
If that's what you're experiencing, I had the exact same issue, but it occurred when I drained the battery to 0% while it was plugged in to my computer. Apparently, the USB ports on most computers don't provide enough juice to keep the N7 alive while using it. I just long-pressed the power button (for around 30 seconds) after it had charged for a bit and the N7 booted right up.
I solved the problem by charging the N7 from a wall socket (and not from a USB port on a computer) when I want to use it while it's charging.

Yes, that what I experience, yeah'wall socket helps but if u run something right after it just boot up, than the lines will dance again^^

If you kill the battery that far dead you need to let it charge 20 or 30 minutes if you're having issues like that.
I understand whats happening now.
OP, if you're going to use the computer and you completely drain it like that, let it charge a bit before you power it back up. Its apparently a habit, and I just don't think its a good thing to kill it dead, connect it to a power source and then immediately kill it again by drawing way more power than we have.

So I just beat DeadSpace (yay), then I decided to reply on a harder difficulty. Within 15 minutes the phone turned itself off and the LED flashed RED once really briefly. Now it won't power on at all. The issue just happened, I don't know what's up.
I hope it isn't in the untouchable state (soft-bricked) again...................... Of course this stuff happens to me at this time in the night when nobody is awake to respone ......... What do I do? How can I fix it?
If it fixes itself I'll let you know.... I know for sure that I'm not playing Deadspace again after this...
EDIT 1* Just unplugged the charger and popped it into another wall. Now the Red Flash is just staying on, the phone is plugged in. What's going on?.......
EDIT 2* The Red LED stopped, phone still won't power on
EDIT 3* The phone now shows the low battery screen while being powered off... I'm guessing it'll power on now
EDIT 4* The phone successfully powered on, nothing is wrong with it now

Soooo! To make it not so pointless, I think I found out why it does this. I think Deadspace drained more battery than the phone could charge so the phone died (battery drain) with no warning. And when it did die the phone was in a state of "what the heck - - - computing - - - enjoy this RED LED!!!!!!". I guess it just means "Super dead battery". So in case anybody else fears for their $500 investment, just give it 10-15 minutes before you panic, and let your phones actually charge
From what I can gather from the various threads about the "Red Led Of Death" is that if it's flashing - it's recoverable in some way, if it's just a solid glow you're SOL. I've spent the last 2 days trying to get my N4 to live again Would actually help if people where more specific about if it's flashing or not.
Just got off the phone to the Play Store and arranging for them to start the RMA process. I guess I'll find out in a couple of weeks what the problem is.
When I first rooted I had the light for 4 hours, got it in and out of the red LED state 3 times that night. It was a horrifying experience. I do not know how I fixed it. I was jamming buttons and eventually got into the boot loader mode, from there I flashed stock boot.img and the rest is history... I wish you luck!!!

Bought a refurbed 32GB WiFi from sears on Jan 2nd and had no issues except for a screen flicker. I was running a CM10.1 build from around Jan 26th and the latest Motley Kernel.
Yesterday I was using the tablet as usual, but I hadn't charged it in a couple of days
so the battery was getting low. After I got home from work I went to use it but the screen wouldn't come on. I figured the battery had died so I went to charge it, but I never got the powered down battery animation. I've tried holding down all 3 buttons for at least a minute and nothing is happening, and when I connect to my computer I get a USB not recognized error.
I have about one day to return the device to sears with the 30 day warranty, but I just thought I'd check to see if anyone else was able to resolve a similar issue before I do so that I don't lose all of my data, and the fact that if they do get it running again that its rooted and running CM.
Any suggestions, or should I just take it back?

Not a death sign.
You just need to let it sit on the charger for about 1/2hr, then it should boot right up. People panic when the device doesn't respond or screens start flashing, but it won't boot and they start mashing buttons and posting about their 'I think I bricked my device'. After a device has run down it might take a long press of the power button to get it to boot and/or sit on the charger for a bit.
Running the battery down should not be confused with the Sleep Of Death (SOD). The fix for an SOD is also a long press of the power button.

try connect to charger at least a half an hour, then press just power button for 1 minute. i had similiar issue, and it worked for me. if dont work, maybe you got battery connector loose problem. try search in general section about that.
