Rooting on tablet with stock 4.2.1 (HELP!) - Transformer TF300T General

Ok so I'm not exactly new to the rooting scene but I'm having trouble since getting the 4.2.1 update. Upon installing TWRP 2.5 and various flavors of CWM, The system is unable to mount anything in recovery! Everything else works great but just not the recovery. Anyone have a fix for this? Not sure if I am willing to downgrade stock, I am afraid that it will brick my device (what happened last time)

You are flash the wrong twrp Version. You need 2.5.0.0. Jb4_2 .

Update?

I just received my nexus 7 and there's already an update available. I plan on rooting and flashing a custom rom. Should I update or not? I know sometimes an update can cause problems when it comes to rooting and whatnot so I thought I'd ask first.. thanks for any feedback!

Yes update it. I updated to 4.1.1 first then unlocked, then rooted with permanent cwm then flashed touch cwm from rom manager.
Use nexus toolkit though so you can restore stock recovery to flash Amy new updates and root again easily.
Also no harm updating to 4.1.1 and then rooting we have methods set up for that right now.

You can root it before or after update, you're just updating to 4.1.1, or you can install a ROM that is already there, if you're rooting either way, just go for it right away

Thanks a lot for your quick responses! Lovin it so far no issues like I've heard about.

This is a nexus device. Unlike other devices you never need to fear an update may break your ability to root.

[Q] Trouble rooting after 4.1.1 OTA

I was rooted until i did the jellybean ota and now i lost root (i knew that was going to happen). But according to everyone using motofail2go it also will root 4.1.1, well it fails everytime....i have also replaced the superuser.apk and tried again but still failed...and now there is cm10 available and i wanna start messing around with it but i cant get rooted
any help?
I had to wipe to factory to get it to work....tried countless times before wiping. with a clean 4.1.1 OTA it rooted the first time.
I've tried that to with no success

N73g not rooting

OK little preface, when I got my N7 I updated to 4.2.1, unlocked the boot loader and rooted with no issues. I found the zip for the 4.2 tablet ui and flashed it though TWRP. For whatever reason that soft bricked my N7. I completely spaced making a backup so I was stuck. I was able to flash the stock 4.2.1 firmware and got it back up and running. now I am trying to reroot my tablet but it's not working. I've tried flashing the superuser zip through recovery and also tried using the toolkit to push the needed files and nothing has worked so I'm at a loss

Xda is not your personal tech support. That being said, flash stock and fastboot OEM lock.

Can't start any Custom Rom

IT seems that any custom Rom I load just sits at the startup animation on first boot. None will Load. I can revert back to Stock without a problem.
Any Idea's?
You need to provide more info. Which stock version are you using? what bootloader version you on? What roms have you tried, and what are they based on (4.1.x, 4.2.x) ? CWM, or twrp?

Started with 4.2.2, used the nexus 7 tool kit to perform root, install recovery, etc. Using twrd 2.4 fir recovery. Smooth rim was the latest. Tried 2 others but the names escape me right now. I have rooted and loaded custom rooms on my last 3 phones so I am not s complete noob but am not an expert either

Jellybeer was one of them.

Lost root.

Okay, so i was getting ready to flash the slim bean, i start and everything says it flashes fine. I reboot and it is stuck on the boot screen. I had made a back up earlier, so i decided to restore. It fails. Try to flash the slim bean again, and it also fails. When i back out of twrp, it says i'm not rooted and asks me if i would like to install root. i click yes, it does nothing but reboot. i am downloading the factory stock odin file, but would prefer not to use odin if i could. Any suggestions?

Did you check to see if you actually lost root? Or is TWRP just saying that you lost root?
i can only get into twrp or download mode, how could i check?

Well, it sounds like it is too late now, Odin is probably your best bet.
well, i will just have to close my eyes when i press that start button. lol, i am afraid of this program, broke my captivate with it. everything seems to be going fine, but that doesn't always mean anything. crosses fingers.

not sure if it worked, it is stuck at the boot screen again, but odin said it passed.

Odin leaves certain data intact, so you might have to go the Emergency stock firmware recovery route via Kies.
the odin file adam outler posted, i used the third mirror. now trying the second.
it's fixed now, thank you.
