Boot Failed, No Command, No ABD - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife turned on her N7 this morning and it wouldn't boot. Instead there is the droid guy with red triangle saying no command.
Can't use WUG since ADB returns no devices. Tried several computers but none see the device. Unplugged the battery but still the same issue.
Appreciate your help

Turn off the device(Hold the power button for about 10sec) if it's on. Now hold all three hardware buttons(Power, volume UO & Down) togather till the google logo shows up, and this will tur your device on into fastboot mode. Now you should be able to to find your devece from your PC(if driver installed). If you ment "Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit" by "WUG" than you probably want to use Flash stock + Unroot (Can't boot up).

Thanks I tried this. When I try to turn it off it immediately reboots. Tried holding the 3 buttons when this occurs, but the result is still the dead droid with no command under it. The screen where you can select reboot recovery, bootloader never comes up. Confirmed fastboot isn't working.
Any other ideas?

It's not 3 buttons, only power and down volume.

Got the angry droid doing this. One I turned the power on, held the volume key up and once again with the volume key down. What am I doing something wrong?

Even if you just tap the volume button on the Google screen? It should have the same result normally, but something is funky.

Something is really funky. I did the same exercise with another N7 and got into bootloader with no issues
Think it's worth letting the battery die and start over? Grasping at straws

Perhaps, just be aware that running the battery all the way down can also cause booting issues.

help me plz, phone is not working

whats up all, first off i never rooted or anything to my atrix but install the ota updates. today i unlocked my phone and there were pop ups on my screen saying, multiple processes had stopped working unexpectantly,so i pressed ok and then my phone just keeps rebooting to the moto logo or sometimes goes back to the home screen and the pop ups come up again, then it reboots. i cant use it or do anything. sometimes the LED blinks white,i dont know what that means, somebody plz help me,thx in advance
Are you on gb or froyo

Sounds like a weird bootloop problem but then you said sometimes it goes to the home screen and then it shuts itself down. Try switching your phone off and switch it back on WHILE pressing(and holding) the volume down button on your phone and let us know if you see "fastboot" written on the screen? You should do.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
thx for the responses, yes it says fastboot and just sits there
So it just says "fastboot" and not "unlocked....fastboot"?
Either way, when you get to where it says "fastboot", press Vol down until it says "Android Recovery" and then press Vol up.
If you haven't flashed CWM you should get the little android with the triangle. At this point, press both volume buttons at the same time.
You should get a menu, use the volume keys to navigate to "Wipe" and then there should be an option at the bottom/left of the screen for "okay" and select that.

If your phone says "unlocked" they'll charge your bill 175 because that's user damage

I would have replied if I saw this earlier, but yes, other posters were right.
The solution to bootloops in 99.9% of cases is wipe data / factory reset. That should have fixed things up for you. But if you get a shiny new phone, that ain't bad either i reckon.
Thx for all the help!!!!

Safe Mode

I just stumbled upon a 'safe mode' that our Atrix can be booted into, I believe its similar to windows safe mode, as in it only loads essential system files.
To do this, power off your Atrix, and press the power button to turn it on. Once the boot ANIMATION starts, immediately press and HOLD the vol up + vol down buttons until you get a long vibe, then release. you'll then see 'safe mode' at the lower left of the screen when the lockscreen comes up.
Im sure this could be of some use... for something. Just unsure exactly what this could be useful for at this point.
Is the data working? Can you make phone calls? I didn't try it yet.

I'm sure there are more than this, but I've heard safe mode mainly being used by people who get the force close of death loop (aka force close loop that never ends, even when restarting). This way in safe mode you can try to do something about the app causing the trouble.
like delete it?
Safe Mode FTW! Thank you! Thank you!
I was in a force-close loop after a launcher update and this was the solution.
XDA comes through again!!!
Thank you so much!

First time I found out about safe mode, it was when I was booting my Galaxy Note and at same time rubbing it against my trousers to wipe the screen clean. In GNote, during the boot animation the Menu key has to be tapped several times, no wonder the rubbing did the trick.
It is good to know now when it would be useful.

I couldn't get mine to work a couple days ago. Would not power on. Hold power button for 20 seconds and it booted back up. Hope that works for you.
Tried everything. Nothing worked at all. Showed that driver required that I showed. It requires a jtag to fix
Try holding down the volume rockers and power button. I did the same thing and that fixed it

I actually got to the HSUSB_DLOAD on my computer also. For me that came up if you press vol +/- and power at the same time. The screen will not turn on but windows detects something trying to install. I wonder what that is. Remember to boot into bootloader it is vol - and power. Hope this helps.
Try a different cable. It doesn't brick that easily.

When you say "Will not boot" do you mean you're able to power it on and it gets stuck at the X screen? Or it can't power on at all?
If you're able to power it on, you should be able to get into fastboot mode and restore it to factory settings or flash the stock images.
If you can't power it on at all, then it's a hardware issue and there's nothing you can do about it. Unless you know how to fix the hardware.

[Q] Can enter bootload but nothing else.

So recently my phone went into Deep Hibernation so I plugged it into a charger and held down Power, Volume down.
I managed to get into the boot loader screen but only the volume keys are responsive to select options but the power button is unresponsive.
I have no idea on how to start the phone or turn it off anymore, what can I do?
Is your bootloader unlocked. If it is use fastboot reboot. That should boot your device

Well I have no idea if it's in Fastboot or not. Currently the phone is stuck in the mode where there's an arrow pointing towards the power button and 2 white arrows with representation to the volume buttons. I think it's in Fastboot right now but again, the power button isn't working at all to select anything.
I'm not too familiar with these terms. All I know is that I have the phone unlocked and Paranoid Android installed.

Sounds like you're in fastboot mode. From a command prompt on your pc and with the usb cable plugged between your phone and the pc, type fastboot reboot. It should boot your device. Hopefully that will clear what ever is causing your power button not to work

Well I managed to reboot it and get back phone's home screen. Though I still have the issue of the fact that my lock/power button is completely busted and/or unresponsive.
Should I just install an app that will serve as an alternative to the power button? By now my Warranty would've already expired and I would have no way of getting it repaired. Are there checks I can make to see whether or not it's a software or hardware fault?

My best guess is it's a hardware issue. A local cell phone repair shop can put in a new power button without a lot of cost.

6t bricked - ive tried everything. help?

I think I have completely bricked my 6t and i am not sure if there is anything left to try.
This is my last hope.
Phone has 2 states at the moment. Either boots into a screen that says qualcomm crashdump mode attempted to kill init! exitcode=0x00000000b complete_and_exit and the dead android no command screen. I cannot shut it off, and the computer even tho it has the drivers of the phone installed, sees it in device manager as qualcomm usb diagnostics or something but that is about it.
I have tried using commands but the phone isnt recognized as connected. I tried MSM tool but it also doesn't see the phone.
Therefore what I'm left with is a phone that doesn't boot in any usable interface, and also the phone isnt recognized by pc. My understanding is that it's dead but if there is anything I can try please let me know.
Thanks!
If you have Qualcomm Snapdragon processor tool with OxygenOS that you're looking for (whatever's going to be is up to you, there are two flavor of OxygenOS recovery images, by the way), all you have to do is to make sure that the phone is totally off, then hold down Volume Down button without powering on the phone, and plug it into the computer, you will get QUSBLOADER message in the device manager then launch the tool after the driver is installed.
That's really much it but beware, you will lose the data, unless someone else know how it really works can advise you on how to skip the /data wipe - the phone will protest due to dirty flashing, of course.
I have bricked this phone three times. LOL Third time's always a charm to me. At least it's hard to really brick it as long as you have the right tools.

The problem is the phone is stuck on rebooting and it never shuts off no matter how much ive tried. I dont care about files or anything like that I just wanna be able to fix my phone. I was trying to format it back to stock OS anyways so ..
Did you hold down the power button and volume down button for a while? It basically force it to power off immediately (just like with the PC, only the function is a bit different). Once it shuts off hard, let go of the keys immediately so you don't accidentally turn it right back on.

yes. I have tried vol up + pwr, vol down + pwr, pwr, vol up + down and nothing. all reboots or just no response.
Strange. I will try to figure out as it's also supposed to be built in the bootloader (I am already familiar with how the Snapdragon processor bootloader works). This is definitely strange and should not be expected.

Well maybe I did something that messed with it?
Currently the phone is responsive to buttons I press and such it's not 100% dead. But also it doesn't have anywhere to boot it seems. So it's stuck on this qualcomm crash dumb screen thing. And also while that is a thing, I can't access it from my computer to flash things on / in it... sooooooo
edit: I also did search on how to force shut off and I seemed to only find force reboot combos and no force shutdown for the 6t.
Qualcomm crash dump? I will take a look at how to get it to stop and drop to EDL (emergency download).

Okay let me be a bit more descriptive so that it makes more sense:
Holding vol down + pwr until screen goes black then release: 1 sec of one plus logo, screen of "bootloader is unlocked" notice, black screen for a sec, flash and crashdump mode forever.
Holding power button until screen is black reboots and goes back to the above ^
Holding pwr + vol up until vibration: gives me the above ^
There was a combo that gave me the no command dead android screen but I'm not sure what it was now.

Try hold both volume buttons at the same times before it reboots, and not pushing the power button (you don't have to), and keep holding them down until it vibrate and the bootloader indicating Fastboot Mode, then let go of the volume buttons.
