What I miss from the One, maybe I missing something in the S4? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had the one for a week and found two things I miss with the S4 now.
1. The camera app on the one seemed to do both object, face, and best picture all in one. You would simply run the zoe or burst (can't remember which) then remove objects, choose your smiles, animation shot etc. With the S4, looks like I have to choose the mode I want first but cannot edit with the other features
2. I really like the automatic creation of videos based on photos and videos you took. You choose 10 peices of content and create the video highlights. Simple, quick.
Any ideas how to do similiar on the s4.
thanks

Yes. Trade your phone back to One

ZOE is very clever and the S4 dosent really have a comparative feature you have the S4 Albums that can make intelligent albums grouped by when pics were taken but its a separate app. The S4 has a lot of settings buried under the different modes it might be worth checking those out to see what tweaks you can make. For instance I have the auto exposure default notched up 2 spaces which to me provides better ISO levels.

Anything like Zoe from HTC on the S4?

I used it and like the concept. Also like the HTC ability to quickly create a video of the days event and create an MP4 to send out.
thanks
For that specific feature of creating video highlights, you could try "Magisto".
I'd love to see some app recommendations around an "shoot now, edit later" feature for the S4 where you can erase a passerby, create dynamic shots, etc. without going into those specific modes. Of course, this is accomplished on the HTC One with the Zoe feature where you take a Zoe and then do the editing later, useful for if you get an unexpected photobomber or if you realize later that one of your friends had blinked in the group shot.

[Q] Hacking camera resolutions

Hi there.
I came from a previous HTC Inspire 4G phone. After a lot of custom rooms I ended up with one that had a lot of camera resolutions available for "hacking" the camera.
I'm wondering if there's a hack, code or something that can be changed on the S4 in order to get more camera resolutions.
What I'm trying to do is actually getting lower resolutions, like 640x480 or 1024x768 so I can take "snapshots" and avoid post-editing of the pictures.
To illustrate exactly the problem, I use the camera phone to scan big documents into pdf. Now the higher resolution of the default camera makes imposible to handle +30 pages scans, and the workaround (taking the picture, open the picture with a photo editor, resize the picture and save, then import picture on pdf scanner app) is not good enough, as it would steal the valuable time that you are suppose to be saving with this phone.
On the HTC the lower resolutions made it possible to just take a lot of "low res" pictures and pdf them really fast directly within the application.
I'm guessing that if you could pre-define lower resolutions to be selectable already on the stock camera application, maybe adding another ones could be as easy as "typing them" on the respective configuration file for the camera.
Any ideas?
Perhaps just take normal sized pictures at the nearest resolution and then write a bash script to crop or resize as necessary, and import that into the scanner app?
I'm not familiar with any hacks available to go beyond the usual stuff.
You can use InfraView (freeware) to batch resize all images. I do it for scaling boot animations all the time.

I dont think this option exists in the S4. I have the i9505 but it should be the same. The only option that would be close would be the vignette filter, but its not really the same. You could just use an editing/camer app to add the effect, Camera360 has a tiltshift feature which creates a similar effect.

Well apparently. ...the S4 camera is smart enough to judge a macro image...and its suppose to focus automatically. ..buuuut we all know that's a flop....I recommend Camera FV5....its paid...but you will definitely like it....it can directly focus macro and blur the background. ...just follow the on screen tutorial...hope this helps
I just took this to see, and all I did was tap on the muffin and let the auto focus do the work. If it was angled at the ground it wouldn't blur, there needs to be distance significant enough to cause the natural blurring.
Not much help but it's not an add on or anything just how you line it up.

S8 Gallery app - Story Mode

So, I have just upgraded myself from G3 to this Beast phone (love it)
Native Galaxy Gallery App there is a Story Mode/ selection that puts together all the pictures you have then in a given day or location and adds background music & some effects but, in doing so it cuts the pictures so you end up with half the face or picture to see.
Are there any settings the I need to change to make the pictures show in full or is there any fix for this.
I tried searching the forums but found nothing. In case I was wrong please direct me to the correct post
I'm finding that I have the same results and can't find any settings to change the way it seems to zoom in on each photo. Really nice idea but poor execution...

No one else seems to have this issue or care for this feature
or they are too busy rooting/ unlocking the SD version of the phone
Can't say about others, but in my case: 1. easy enough to do it manually just the way I want it 2. it almost never works properly, besides cutting off the frame. Case in point, my phone created album called "at the beach", after we went to the beach. Well, most of the pictures in this album are not from anywhere near the beach and since I have location embedded in every picture and phone already correctly identified I was at the beach including particular field, not sure why it added pictures taken at home and many other locations. Bottom line: useless function personally I don't care about.

Panorama mode in Essential camera app

Hi, I have my PH-1 for a couple of days now and I like the pure Android and as well the camera app. There is however one single function that I miss - and that is a panorama mode for photos. I do have the 360° camera, but this is something different ... I use the panorama mode very often to have a "wide angle" photo, especially for landscape photography. Especially with the zoom factor of the PH-1 camera this would make sense. Manually putting photos together is much work.
Am I wrong or is this function not implemented so far?
Cheers,
Eriol
It's not there. I've come to rely on taking a series of individual pictures in sequence and letting Google Photos string them together through its magic. Actually does a really nice job and manages to block out some things that panoramic modes don't, like people moving through the picture. It is a limitation, though, that I hope will arrive with another update, however there are still some overall quality issues I hope they sort out first.
