Any way to stop the home button from waking the phone? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't see the point of having two buttons that can both wake the phone, so how can I stop the home button from doing anything until it's already unlocked?

me too

Just found this, needs root access though:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1702675

Thanks. I'll have to try to see if it's the same deal on my phone when I eventually root it.
Was sure hoping for a solution that didn't require rooting, though.

will it work on our phone?

I've not tried it yet, but will probably give it a go today when I get chance.

Just tried, and yes it does work on the s4 with root access. We only have the one file though, gpio-key.kl. Same location though. Find the line that says home, and delete the word wake. Save changes and reboot, job done!

[Q] ~# where I used to have #

I believe I read in another thread that this may be due to the partitioning of my card, how can I fix this? I'd like to be able to remove some more apps.
Thanks.
i'm experiencing the same problem as you. hopefully we'll get help soon. I need this to be corrected so that I may run the parted command to remove the partitions on my card, for froyo apps2sd.
Bump?
I just found this when I was trying to get into Clockwork and do anything, but when I choose any of the options off the menu, they just lead me to a blank screen. So I haven't been able to do pretty much anything. Hah. >.<
I tried searching the forums, but I can't find anything specific. Hopefully someone will shed some light onto this predicament.
Could you post your partition structure guys?
Always better to document the issues/fixes rather than just fix your own problem
Someone else will ask this later n_n

Forgive me for being a noob, because my terminology isn't up-to-date, but what is my partition structure?
Not sure how you got it, but in terminal, that means you're in as root in an ash shell (possibly bash, also, but I didn't check). Where exactly are you seeing this symbol combination?
Well. /facepalm. There was nothing wrong to begin with. >.< Sorry for the false alarm.

Instead of hitting the power button, hit the trackpad. If you hit the power button and go to a blank screen, hit the power button again and it will bring you back to the menu.

Yeah, I've always known that, but for some reason, on that day, I decided to forget and freak out. -.-''
Thanks, though. ^^

Side buttons config

Hi, everybody!
I tried to search for a similar thread before I created this one, but I couldn't find one. So, if there really is one (or several), you have my apologies.
I've been playing with the side buttons config using the app NookTouchTools. First, I set them as if they were volume buttons, and they worked nice. Then, when I changed my reader app, I tried setting one of the buttons back to the way it were, to see if it worked. When I rebooted, none of the buttons worked and I've been trying out new configs since then to make them work, but it's useless.
Please, someone help me (it's really frustrating)!
PD: if you need some info about the software, ask me so I can ask my cousin, who rooted my NST.
So you're not having luck changing them around with Nook Touch Tools anymore? Are yu rebooting after changing them in NTT?
Ask your cousin if he blocked OTA updates. Unlikely anything happened recently, but an update pushed by B&N can break your root access.

Yes, that's the problem. No matter how I do it, or how many times I try, it just doesn't work...

Surprisingly (for me), he has no idea. How can we find out?
I am the cousin. I didn't do anything special, just what I did to mine, and mine's fine. Maybe reinstalling NookTouchTools or something like that?

You could try uninstalling, then reinstalling. There are no error messages or anything useful being shown? Do all other root functions work properly?
Finally, which one of you is bigger? Sounds like there's one working NST between you.

Did you change your default B&N reader? What did you change it to? Do the buttons not work in the reader only
or not in any other apps (like CoolReader).

My cousin will have to answer to all that...
EDIT:
Apparently he's on vacation so he will post in a few weeks...

No error messages anywhere. I just try to change the config, reboot and they keep on ignoring me...

I think I didn't change the default reader (not in purpose, at least), but I'm not really sure. When I use the B&N library to choose a book, it asks me which reader it is to use.
As for the other question, the buttons do not work at all. It is as if they have lost their config (in fact, in NookTouchTools no config appears).
P.D.: I'm going away on holiday again on Tuesday, so I will be long in answering again. Thanks for your help!
We have tryed wiping dalvik caché, fixing permissions, and reinstalling NookTouchTools. Any ideas?
I was having some other problems, probably concerning permissions, so I decided to re-root the device. The problem is, when I try to boot into ClockWorkMod, it doesn't load, but boots as usual, even though, in theory, CWM is successfully written in the microSD.
Any suggestions as to why that happens?
EDIT: The NTS was successfully re-rooted, after several hours working on it. The side buttons work correctly and everything is OK. Now, just to make sure this doesn't happen again, how do I block these OTA updates bobstro talked about?
Thanks for your help!

[Q] Disable Home Button Wake

Anyone know of a way to disable the home button wake without root? Didn't know if they tucked something away in settings somewhere. Every time I stick the device in the case I have the screen comes on and continues to do it on and off. Probably in my pocket as well.

I have looked as well and cant seem to find any way to do it. Tried a search but no luck yet. If I find a way I will post it here.
According to Samsung there is no way to do it and they are hinting it might be added as an option in future update. Guess I will just have to wait till I root the device.

Fine job making a Windows program. Unfortunately I do not know most of those apps so I will not select them. Is it too much to ask someone for a list of apk name versus function name?

The apk name is listed along with the packagename in the list. If you are unsure what things are safe to block/disable. There are plenty of people on the forum that would be willing to help you.
I did not see the package name so I will have run it again and read more carefully or try to change the size of that field.

The apk is on the left and the package name is on the right. Are you saying you would like to see the App Drawer Name ??
That would be really helpful. Thanks.

Yeah, it sounds like you blocked a little too many, Lol. You can simply go and save your blocked list and then Unblock all and start going one by one until you figure out which ones you do need.
Please bring all feedback and questions over to the forum dedicated for this.

Here's one thing to think about also, by accident I blocked the Google stock email , not the Gmail. I went back to unblock and I had to re-enter all my emails back again. So what I'm saying after a block and then an un-block it wipes the app. Did you expect that to happen or should I expect that to happen for most apps be turned back on?
Thanks

As far as I know, there is no way to do that. I tried to put a data one in the quick toggles, with no luck. I am using the same phone as you right now, except mine is rooted with Xposed. I believe that is the only way.

ah, yes. There is that one, but only on the AT&T model, I think. Still, not in the notification shade without root.

There is now a way! There was a very small ota security patch from att a few days, and I had it a few hours while I was figuring out some of the root issues I had. I didn't look through all the changes, but there was a new data toggle in drop down menu, and a new tab in settings for often used sections.

Good Lock app from Samsung has the data toggle.
