If you're trying to run Windows 8 64-bit, you have to have hardware virtualization support.

No he means that your cpu needs virtualization support in order to run it in a VM. What CPU do you have?

If you follow and read the links I posted above, you'll see that if you're running the 64-bit version of Windows 8 (as a guest) it needs hardware virtualization (i.e., your CPU needs to support either VT-x [Intel chips] or AMD-V [AMD chips]). You'll need to turn it on in the BIOS.
I believe the other option is to run the 32-bit version of Windows 8 in your VM, where it will not require that hardware virtualization (if my memory serves).
I have a desktop computer about 4 year old, running Windows XP. It has hardware robust enough to run Windows 8. So, I created a bootable usb drive using Windows 7 usb tool in my laptop running Windows 7 HP x64. The usb drive works fine on my laptop, both while booting from it as well as using it while already booted on Win 7 to install Windows 8. But when I insert it to my desktop, and run setup.exe, it shows that setup.exe is not a valid win32 application. And if I boot from it, just shows the Windows 8 logo and does nothing, even if I leave it for a couple of hours, I have purchased Windows 8 for both my pcs but I am not able to install it on my desktop. Help.

or use a 32-bit ISO and install a 32-bit version of Windows 8.
As nbates said you can't run apps with different architecture. Make sure you have the right settings set in the BIOS (make the USB device bootable) and install again. I think that there was an app called Wintousb or something like that. That's the best app for making a bootable usb.

Since Windows XP both a 32Bit and a 64Bit version exist. OP therefore should clearly specify which machine have what OS version running...

I just set up a Windows Phone developer account and registered my phone (HTC 8x) as a developer unlocked phone.
I have build an app with PhoneGap build and I can download the .xap, but I have yet to figure out how to install it.
Using a QR Reader asks if I want to search the store for something to open the file.
I've seen tutorials on how to build a PhoneGap app within Visual Studio.
I haven't seen any means of installing it from PhoneGap Build, though.
Any ideas?

Man, it would be great if you could install them directly from the PhoneGap site (like iOS and Android - I haven't tested Blackberry).
Having to do it from a computer that has, at least, a Core i5 CPU and Visual Studio is kind of jacked.
Also, I can only have 3 developer devices on my account.
Apple allows 99, I think.
Of course, Android doesn't even require to to register a device (just turn on the "install unapproved apps" feature.

You do not need SLAT (i5 CPU) to side load things.
That is for emulators only.
There is homebrew to do that on WP7. We'll just have to figure out a way on WP8. It's not very hard, once we can get the needed permissions.

I downloaded "Windows Phone Power Tools" after installing .NET 4.5 but, it just gives me an error of "Unable to install or run the applications. The application requires that assembly Microsoft.SmartDevice.Connectivity version 11.0.0.0 be installed in the Global Accembly Cashe (GAC) first." when I attempt to run it..
As most of us know, SDK 8.0 REQUIRES Windows 8, I would love to be able to install XAPs on Windows 7 so I don't have to reboot my PC to use my Windows 8 partition just to install a quick XAP time to time. I have a Windows 8.1 laptop, so I just use it.
Being able to do it at work would be nice, though.

Yes you have to instal win 8 on your machine that,s a requierment.

You can install the WP8 SDK on Windows 7...it works just fine. The secret that Microsoft doesn't want you to know is that the WP8 SDK can be installed on Server 2008 R2...Server 2008 R2 is based on Windows 7 x64. Therefore, it will work with no issues.

You already can run Linux on this tab, it's not practical but you can. As for Windows, 98 and XP are not Arm compatible so there is no go for those. The only possibility is Windows 8 RT and it only runs on their official hardware.

okay thank you. do you have any tips to run linux on this tablet? I'm not at all new to how android runs (5 android devices of mine are hacked) but I am completely new to this inconia tab. What would I need to do?

windows 8/8.1 definitely not, it has an ARM processor and windows 8/8.1 requires an X86-compatible processor.
windows RT could theoretically be done, but it would require a lot of trickery and custom drivers which no developer is ever going to bother with.
so in short, no.
if you want windows on that tablet, use remote desktop, vnc, teamviewer, etc.
