I wish I had waited two days. I just ordered a new HD 16GB on eBay for $169 + shipping. I think it was from someone in NY that got the earlier deal you posted. But it was not directly from B&N, which I would have preferred.

Also the covers for both models are $25. Not super cheap, but they added a lot of very pretty covers for the HD only a couple of weeks ago!

The ridiculous proprietary 30pin charging cable which is impossible to find anywhere else is also now $15 if people were looking to get another set or can't wait for monoprice to figure this one out

best buy has it for cheap too.

In for 1. I've been eyeing the HD+ after demoing one at Target during the holidays. Price was right, size was right. And a few days ago my Touchpad decided it was done.. great timing.
(add in a $25 B&N gift card I'd been saving and I can now use my existing google apps, $165 w/ tax, quite pleased)

Picked one up yesterday, this is my first tablet, got it for $198 with tax, can not go wrong for this price, fantastic screen, good battery life, not the fastest tablet out there, but for the money and specs it can not be beat. Only issue I have is with the charging cable, not the cable itself but the charging block that plugs into the wall, seems like it is the only one you can use to charge the device, using any other charging block does not work, it also does not charge while pluged into the computers usb port. Otherwise it is a fantastic device, especially now that yu have access to the google play store.

It does charge, it just charges slower. Much slower.

Best Buy sells the 32GB model for $199.99.
The HD+ may have its limitations but a 1080p screen and 32GB memory for $199 is pretty good.

is it worth it to upgrade from a nook color? Ive been looking to upgrade as my nook color is 2 years old...with a bad battery and no warranty it still works....but it just isnt up to scratch anymore.

I just use one of these: http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-hig...=1367893383&sr=8-1&keywords=5v+2a+usb+charger
a 5v 2A charger (same as the Nook's wall charger is rated). Works great and charges the HD+ just as fast.

^^
Any idea whether it has 2A rating combined or for each USB port?

HD+ AC adapter is 5.1V/2A. I tried using HD+ cable along with the Nook Color's AC adapter (5V/1.8A) and the combo also works, ie the amber light comes on, and it says charging in the UI. Probably charges a bit slower. A Nook Tablet's AC adapter would probably work as well.
I tried a 5V/1A adapter and no amber charging light.
>Any idea whether it has 2A rating combined or for each USB port?
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, an adapter's amp rating always means the overall rating, not a per-port rating.

Got mine at Target
I just picked up a Nook HD+ 32GB at Target for $199. Then saved an extra 5% with my Target Red Card. Ran over there on my lunch break, so I haven't had time to play with it at all. Can't wait to get home tonight and charge it up! It will definitely be a step up from my Nook Color with CM7.
They offered a 2-year extended warranty plan for $17. I don't normally go for those plans, but this one seemed cheap, and I already saved over $100 on the Nook, so I bought it. Maybe if nothing else, I can get a new battery out of it in a couple of years (the woman at Target specifically mentioned that it covered the battery). Anybody else buy an extended warranty plan on their Nook (or other tech, for that matter)?

Nice, but if I am going to spend $10 on just the AC adapter, I might as well buy the original AC adapter with charging cable from B&N for $15.

just picked one up for my mother, got my wife one for xmas. So happy now it has official playstore support. Now to just put my wifes back to stock software.

I got a BN adaptor/cord for my HD+ from Staples for $8 but that was because they were dumping everything nook and it was the last one.

[Q] Charging through microusb

Has anybody noticed that you cannot charge the tablet through the microusb port? I use this tablet at work in my car and I cannot get my existing charger to do anything so i took the tablet inside and plugged it to the computer for conformation and it doesn't charge there either. So I guess I'm gonna have to find a DC charger for this. Anybody know where I can get one cheap?
The Acer doesn't use a proprietary connection to charge so you should be able to find a generic charger that fits with the same barrel connector 12Vdc 1.5A (1500mA) - another plus over the Asus
Check your local Radio Shack store for a universal charger that matches. Heck, Wal-Mart might even have it, Best Buy probably will as well.
This question about charging over the USB comes up a lot - but that'll probably never happen with 10" tablets. The screens are so big, that makes the batteries need a lot more power, and USB just isn't designed to produce the kind of amperage required to charge it.
I just bit the bullet and bought a good inverter.

Black and Decker has a new model now that looks different http://goo.gl/2LV4X but it's worked out very nicely for me. I swear by it. It's saved my phone so many times as well as my previous tablet.
I went by reputation to get it as it shuts off before it causes your vehicle's battery to die (if your battery is weak). Many of the others will drain it until your vehicle can't start.

[Q] charger replacement for kindle

can i use any charger that can fit into my kindlle fire?
i have a charger of LG optimus one and it fits exactly.
i cant find shops selling kindle fire charger here in the philippines.
the original has 1.8A - would try to get one that has around this value
with a charger under 1A i'm pretty shure you'll get charging problems or at least it lasts very long
basically you can use every usb charger ...
Yes you can as long as a charger has equivalent current as the original charger.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
I lost mine and just been using the iphone wall charger with the mini usb cable and it's been working fine. Does charge pretty slow but that's all i can do for now.
Any USB charger will work, but one with less current won't charge as fast.

No... I got a charger off ebay and it said it was for the Kindle Fire, but it was only 1000 ma. and I had all kind of problems, There are several threads on this already..Get one at least 1.8 amps and you'll be ok..
The Kindle Fire will recharge from a powered USB hub or computer just fine, and that's only 500 mA. The USB spec doesn't allow for anything greater, so you may run into incompatibilities with other chargers since compatibility is the main reason we have specs. Hopefully manufacturers are talking to each other about how to make fast chargers, but, given Houndog101's experience, it doesn't seem like that's always the case.
The Kindle has a 16.3 W*h battery, so you can calculate how long it'll take to charge given any current (5V * current = Watts), if you account for the loss due to the Kindle being on at the time. A standard USB port is going to take at least 7 hours to fully recharge the Kindle, and probably more like 10+ if WiFi is on. So I'd definitely go for a 1.8 A charger, and hope for the best. Don't spend too much since it might not work unless it's specifically made for the Kindle.
Belkin F8Z630 charger
I've bought several of the Belkin F8Z630 chargers and been very pleased with them. Not cheap, but they deliver a solid 2.1 A at 5 Vdc, they can handle any input 100-240 Vac (basically worldwide usage), and they have a nice rotating plug feature that is handy in some tight spots. Works great for charging the KF quickly.
I found one in my car from an LG that chargers it just fine, and in a timely manner.
What happened to the stock charger? The one that cane with my fire did not work at all

TF300 32gb review and comparison

I have been going through 10" Android tablets like good beer (no driving of course). So far the A500, Thrive, Prime, A510, Excite Quad 16gb and now the TF300. Many reasons for returning them:
A500 = Weak wifi and visible verticle screen lines.
Thrive = Kept it, but sold recently due to poor Tegra 2 video support
Prime = Weak wifi, iffy touch response
A510 = Gets too warm/hot on right side- this also impacts battery life if sustained. Also has visible verticle lines, but not as bad as A500.
Excite Quad = Bad light bleed, poor file support, battery drain issues and crazy big connector (the footprint of that and the cable is about the same space as the tablet). File management was also an issue (like the Thrive, the Excite is poor in this regard).
Office Max has (at the moment) the TF300 on sale for $350 and the keyboard for $100, so got both for the same price as the A510 and Excite. This seemed too good to not jump on, so got both yesterday morning. Here is a review/comparison with the A510 & Excite:
Build = Good, but A510 and Excite are better
Display = Some light bleed bottom right corner, but IMO, better display than the A510 and Excite and GREAT touch response like the Excite.
Sound = Kind of weak and not on same level as the A510 and Excite. Headphone sound is good.
Performance = About the same as the A510, which is very good. Excite seemed a little better and benchmarks support this.
Heat = Coolest tablet I have used. The A510 gets hot when using the GPU and even the Excite gets warm.
Wifi = Great. All three perform fine, but the 300 appears tops.
File management = Great. Seemless with dock. I have a 64gb loaded in the tablet and a 128gb card loaded in the dock. All apps work fine and media is stutter free. Ditto for 64gb thumbdrives too. IMO, this tablet equals the A510 and both are FAR better than the Excite.
GPS = Seems fine, but I do not use it on tablets.
Keyboard = Better than expected and game emulators are more playable than using virtual pads (though touch is good). Handy if no controller is around. Speaking of controllers, they work as good as my laptop.
Battery life = Only had less than 24 hours, but battery life is in between the A510 and Excite, which is good. Seems the battery life will actually be better than the A510 with dock attached.
Stuff I do not like:
Plastic docking section. Not sure how long this will hold up compared to metal. Metal would seem a better option for the back and the curved section the tablet seats in.
Proprietary connector. I prefer the A510 design since can use a normal micro USB in a pinch for trickle charge with a computer.
No USB connector on tablet. This seems flat out silly to me. Even Samsung is adding them now. I have already had a few times where I was at another computer, but had no way to transfer data. At least with the iPad the cable is so common you can get one in a pinch- not so with this. The good news is the Asus cable is small like iPads and not a giant monster like the A510 (what were they thinking?).
I will restate more directly- It is flat out STUPID to have no USB, but no connector on this tablet is by design, since Asus has already stated with the Prime and Transformer they made the most margin on the docks, so want people to buy them.
As a complete system, the tablet and dock rock, but just as a tablet, the usb issue is huge to me. If the total price was $550 rather than $450, I would not have bought this, since too close to laptop price territory for me. Not sure I would just have the tablet though, so total price drove me to the TF300.
Net result is all current tablets have issues and there really is no "perfect tablet", IMO. If I did not have or want a laptop, even at $550 the TF300 is good. For what I paid though, the TF300 and dock rocks hard!
Note: Acer just released their A700 and the performance seems to support concerns Anandtech had that the Tegra 3 efficiency sweet spot is 1280X800 and anything beyond that appears to trend in diminishing returns. Until Nvidia pulls an Apple and makes a more robust GPU for the Tegra 3, I think users are better off with a good IPS 1280X800 display.
Asus does make a 40-pin to USB 2.0 converter for the tablet. It costs around $32 on E-bay.
You stated that you didn't like it not having one because you couldn't trickle charge it from a computer. USB connectors have an output of .5A max, the TF300 charger is a 2A. That effectively means that you'll have to be connected to a PC 4 times longer to get the same charge as from the charger. Even charging an advanced phone from the USB port takes forever. In my opinion, that is completely unreasonable as an expectation. USB on these things is for data transfer, not charging.
I really love how fast the TF300 charges. From empty to full in about 2 hours.

The reasons were charging and data transfer. The nice thing about trickle charge is you can use the device or transfer data and not take a battery hit. Handy if without the stock charger for extended time.

True that! But come on - 10 -15 hours worth of transfer? Still, we would have to have some type of USB cable, standard or proprietary. Standard would definitely be better. Like you said, at least it's not the 510's cable!
Edit :was reading and posted by mistake.. Anyways I'm loving the Tf300t . I use this as a netbook replacement since all i use latops is for internet and MSword and this lasts much longer. Sometimes II'm using this all day and with wifi on i have to charge it once through the day with the dock. but thats over 12 hours nonstop with no screen off ... I use it heavily constantly streaming video, torrenting, web etc so its reasonable I think

Fair points. Sadly, I am having massive battery drain issues I mentioned in another thread. It has happened twice in a row in a very clean environment (restarted and no apps using notifications). If I do not figure this out soon I will return both. That said, since using a stock device there should be NOTHING to figure out- it should just work.
I am wondering if leaving my 128gb sd card in is leaving the dock active, but battery use only shows (two tasks) most percentage being display and then some for idle. No media activity and the files on the card are PSX games and video (the PSX has .nomedia in the directory). The Toshiba Excite would burn over 12%, but was a media task doing it (Toshiba issue). In this case, only the display and idle shows as using battery.
Just last night in 6.5 hours from 100% in both, it burned through the dock and 35% of the tablet. The display was off before going to sleep and checking in the middle of the brief night. I got a great deal on the both, so this is bitter irony.

Not really sure what the problem is... The part of the cable that plugs into the charger is a USB connection, so you can transfer files to/from your comouter. It also trickle charges just like you want. I know because when I was messing with creating a Debian chroot image, my tablet was connected to my laptop for a long time and inched its way from ~50% to 100%. It took a loooong time, but it charged.
Really, the only downside to the proprietary connector is that you can't just use any micro-USB cable you want; it has to be the Asus cable.
Cool. Did not know on the trickle. Now, if I can just solve the battery drain to avoid a return. Love the dock & tablet system, but the battery drain is a killer.

I'm watching your other thread on the battery issue. Please update when you know something. Sorry to hear you're having this problem. There's nothing that sucks worse than a new toy that won't work right!
Does the trickle charge only work with the tablet? While connected to my computer when using with dock attached, the dock drained to nothing and the tablet did not charge once the dock was dead.
I guess I answered my own question perhaps, since the dock did not charge at all and no way for the tablet to use the USB source since feeds through the dock which died. It is a series charge flow.

Can i use a USB 3G stick with OTG on the nexus?

before signing up for another data line, was wondering if i can use a otg cable and stick a 3G usb stick to use data on the go
would this thing drain my battery too quick if it does work?
any experience and input are appreciated.
Might be better to get one of those mobile hotspot things where it has it's own battery...if you can. I would guess even if it can work, it would drain your battery very quickly.

In theory it could but in practice it wouldn't be viable. Better off tethering if you can.

well.....wouldnt that drain your tablet then? lol, kinda defeating the purpose now
Yes troll it would drain your tablet but not as much as a 3g dongle through USB. Did you even read the thread? What do you think the "purpose" is? I didn't say its ideal I said for situations where your phone is about to die from tethering and you need a little charge. Just trying to help.
Since wii're throwing out ideas, I picked up a 5000mA battery charger for $25. It was on sell, so don't expect that price. My Nexus 7 doesn't accept the charger for some reason, but my phone would charge from it. So you can tether and always be able to charge your phone. The thing I have is about the size of a MiFi thingy. LoL!! I think they're going for about $60+ now. Since my E4GT has a 1800mA battery, I technically have 3 batteries with a remainder of 1400mA. That's practically 4 batteries. LoL!! =.P
I bought something "like" this. Looks very much alike except it wasn't from China and it had a 1A and 2.1A port. And I have no idea where "solar" is even coming from. The one I have has nothing "solar" about it. LoL!!

I think the N7 needs 2A to charge. a single USB is 500 mA and the dual 1A, so I don't think there's enough power.
Also check if the output of your microUSB cigarette charger is 2A
