Missing Extra Pen Nibs, Anyone Else? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) General

When I bought my last 2 GNote 10.1 Tablets I had extra Pen nips in the box. My GNote 8 did not have any spare nips. Just curious, did anyone else recieve them in the box?

No, none here either.

It's the same type of pen as the note 2. The nib is non removable so if it dies you'll have to replace the whole pen. It's a little bit of a money grab but this note 8.0 is a better product than the 10.1 so I can live with it.

Thanks for the info, I didn't think to compare that.
Regards,

Got mine and didn't have any extra nibs either. I also noticed that ny box did not contain any earpiece. Is that normal.

No extra nibs and no earpiece came with my N5110 too.

[Q] Should i get the 7.7 or stay with my Note

Need you guys opinion ..should i get the 7.7 or keep my note ...and do you think its a even trade from note to 7.7
The stylus was what made this difficult for me. I'm an artist, and amoled+pressure sensitivity=mark making breakthrough. Ultimately I went with 2.5" more in screen realestate. I prefer the 7.7, but i'd have the note too if I could afford it.
Sent from my GT-P6800 using XDA Premium HD app
Go for both if possible.
I had sgs2, note and 7.7 side by side and was very pleased by that combo.

Depends a lot on what you want to use it for. If you call a lot then a Note will be handier. But if you mostly surf then a 7.7 with some bluetooth headset or a HM5000 can work well.
Also an Note can be easily transported in one of your pockets, the 7.7 is much bigger and wont fit everywhere. Consider do you want to carry it around in a bag all the time, or hold it in your hand.
Another option is to use the 7.7 in combination with a dumb phone. Have 2 sim cards who are identical, and use flightmode to control where the calls end up.
Lots of things to consider.

[Q] Good Stylus for note taking?

I bought a stylus for taking notes. I tested Evernote, Classic Notes Lite, Freenote, Genial Writing and Handwrite Note. But in the end I was quite disappointed. Either the Nexus 7 touchscreen is not sensitiv enough or my stylus sucks, but all the handwriting looked a lot worse than on paper and the apps offering handwriting recognition succeded only in 50% of the times.
How are your experiences?

Typically the rubber tip cheap styli suck . I remember I got a metal mesh tip stylus for my transformer, worked wonders
THIS. IS. NEXUS.
Thanks for your input. Yes the ruber tip seems too big and too clumsy in order to be accurate enough for handwriting. I hope an expensive one will solve this issue since it would be really create to take notes.

The S pen that comes with the galaxy note would be a good choice. I may get one seems like a really good pen and it works with more than just the Note.

i've tried to use that stylus on my Galaxy S3, but it doesn't work.
haven't tried to use it on my Nexus 7 tho.
as for the rubber stylus, mine ripped after a few years old, and so it doesn't work anymore.

That wouldn't work.works with the proprietary wacom digitizer of the note.

Note taking is the one thing I REALLY miss coming from a Thinkpad Tablet. The foam/rubber stylus are a piece of poop in comparison. The closest I've come is the Jot Pro Stylus or the GoSmart Stylus. They're not perfect in comparison to an active pen and tablet but they do the job a heap better than the other cheaper ones.
Those look awesome. Anyone try either of them?

The gosmart seems to be better reading amazon reviews. The jot seems to be less responsive according to reviews. I may just have to pick me up a go smart 200 series.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
The naked Teflon coated tip on the Gosmart feels a bit better writing on the screen than the plastic disk on the Jot and makes less of a tap, tap noise. The GoSmart feels "lighter" and smoother on the screen and more responsive.
Be warned though that I'm not brave enough to consider taking the 300 series Gosmart in my airplane carry on if I travel, it just looks and feels "dangerous"..
Jule from The Gadgeteer has tried a good selection of capacitive stylus (alebit on an iPad). Here's her reviews on the GoSmart and the Jot.
As I say they're never going to be as good as an active digitiser/pen combination though
I ordered Gosmart. Seems like the best and fairly reasonable.

I have the jot pro.it came in the mail today. This does not work with a screen protector. It almost sticks to the screen. I tried it on Bonnies galaxy tab 2 without a screen protector and it glides better but worries me about the edge of the disk digging in. So I put it back in package and got a email. Its going back to amazon in the morning.
I will try the other mentioned above.soon android will have active stylus support and manufacturing will start making something worthy for us.
I had a note 10.1 stylus was good. But not as great as my intuous 4 wacom. Its also not quite completable with many higher end apps.
So conclusion is there is no real solutions YET BOOHOOO
I read a review that gosmart was fine with a screen protector...ill let you know when I get mine.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I have a generic matte screen protector on mine and that may be why the Gosmart feels better. Less drag due to lower surface area without the solid plastic disc
Try the "amPen Hybrid Stylus" off of amazon. Just got mine and it works wonderfully. Its pretty economical too.

Will not work. The Galaxy Note has an Active Digitiser and the S Pen is an active pen. Same goes for the Thinkpad Tablet.

Bamboo Stylus Feel... anyone tried it yet?

I've been waiting for reviews for this pen for a while. I don't see any third parties selling it yet either... I found one review, but it was in Japanese (which I can read) and wasn't very helpful in terms of the purpose I would be using it for. Particularly, the artwork...
I'm curious, is it really any different than the s-pen or is it just about the form factor?

I'm curious about it too. I currently have a Samsung ET-S200EBEGSTD S-Pen with eraser which works and feels great. Will the Bamboo Stylus Feel actually feel better than the Samsung branded S-Pens? I'll wait for those reviews as well.

I confirmed with Wacom, it has no eraser. Made me lose all interest.
I ordered 2 on the 7th. I got them yesterday. My wife is an artist and the Samsung stylus was to thin. She really likes the feel of it. Its really light though, and it feels like rough ceramic. I cant say that it writes better than the stock one. But it is easier to use. All they had was the white version that day. I do wonder if the $80 black carbon fiber pen would have been better. It has double the weight.
I need to use it a bit more before I can review it. Mainly because I put an anti-reflective screen protector on my tablet the day before.
Best Buy now has Bamboo Stylus
Titles says it all!
Ok, I was using it this morning after doing the OTA update. I didnt like it at all. I thought it might have been this matte screen protector. Just to double check, I grabbed my wifes Bamboo stylus and used it. It worked great! Mine was slow and didnt work half the time, but hers works better than the Samsung stylus. Now I have to figure out how to return mine. Its defective.
Using my wifes, there is something I didnt like about it. The button sits flush with the body and it feels the same. So its hard to find. I use it a lot because I have it set to erase.

Link? I looked and couldn't find it... I found several Bamboo Stylus, but none for the Note 10.1. I do like the look of the carbon stylus on the Wacom Website.
This is where I got mine. Directly from the Wacom store.

Thanks for the link. I just ordered one. (White). I was gonna get the samsung based version, but this thickness might be perfect for. I hate how expensive they are. I wish they were half this price and then i could buy multiple pens.

Is setting the button to erase only for the Wacom stylus or can the stock s-pen do it as well? Care to share how? Thanks

Just to share, any Wacom Penabled (Tablet PC) stylus will work with the Note series. I have three from my Tablet PC days and they all work with my Note 10.1 and Note II. Search in Google or Amazon and you can find a large range of styles and prices.

The app you use has to have the option. The app I use most is Lecture Notes.
[Settings/handling/one time eraser] sets it to erase once after each time the button is pressed. Very handy.
I have noticed that the built in apps like SNote and Kno lack a useful setting menu. It would be nice if they gave us more options.

Work? Yes. Work well? Maybe. I have one from a slate, and it's about 1/4" off when writing. Too annoying to be useful. I'm not saying yours don't work well, I'm saying that not all penabled stylus will work well.
I have a bamboo create tablet and the pen for that thing does not work on either my Samsung 7 Series or my Note 10.1. The S7S pen do work on the Note 10.1 and visa versa tho. The eraser work as well; haven't tried the eraser on Sketchbook Pro tho.

Note 10.1 Sighting

I just saw a white galaxy note 10.1 in an ABC news report that aired on GMA about "Gallon smashing". The reporter was using the note to playback video's of kids gallon smashing for shoppers at a grocery store that have never seen or heard of this new fad.
will be at the 1:10 mark in video

It's sure is nice to see something other that an iPad on network TV.
Has anyone else seen the Galaxy note 10.1 on a TV show??
.
Yep, it was a month or so ago but the queen was holding a white one in her hands.... Was on the news, in the newspapers (titled "the queen has a tablet and its not an Ipad") and all over youtube and here....
Just saw the note 10.1 on the cooperators commercial, think itd an insurance company

You can see the Note 10.1 in quite a few korean tv shows as well, the most recent one that I noticed (because it's actively airing) is 7th Grade Civil Servant (7급 공무원) where the main male lead is using it to study for the civil exam in several scenes
I believe it's also the tablets that are used whenever some form of "tabular interaction" is needed on the (korean) show Running Man (or they are using Galaxy Tabs, but I remember at least one episode where they are using S-pens)
In the first post, how do you know it was not a white Tab 2?
The only way to rule out that it is not a white tab 2 is to actually see the pen. That said, I haven't seen another Note 10.1 in my areas. For all I know I may be the only one... However, I see tons of Tab 2s and Tab 7s; and of course the iPad. From the front, it is really difficult to say whether you are seeing is a Note 10 or a Tab 2. Maybe some of those tablets I've seen are Note 10s, but hard to say, unless I get a glance at the bottom right corner for the pen or the back...

The silver bezel is alot chunkier on the note 10., especially down the sides.... if you've seen a note 10.1 and a tab2 side by side, its quite easy to tell which is which after that

Spen not so unique after all

Hello so today i realized that a digitizer pen from a lenovo thinkpad yoga 12 actually works exactly as an spen on our note device.
You may wonder why is this important well the lenovo thinkpad pen is just a regular digitizer pen. So im guessing that ANY digitizer pen will work with our device. In case anyone is looking for a bigger or heavier pen. Try searching digitizer pen...
Here is a video. Sorry for the quality i filmed it on the thinkpad and i accidentally covered the mic but it just shows that it has the same functions as samsung spen

It's not a guess, it's true. Samsung licenses Wacom technology for the Note-series. But there's a big but. People who've used Wacom branded stylus' with the Note have had offset issues. Something's different with the Note 5's digitizer and/or stylus too. The two full-size Samsung S Pens I have aren't nearly as sensitive on the Note 5 as they are on my Note 12 and were on my Note 4. They're no where near as sensitive as the included stylus either. In theory any active stylus should work on the Note(s) but in practice that's not the case. So if you're experimenting buy from some place with a liberal return policy.
Wacom stylus & digitizers over LCD screens are a lot older than the Galaxy Note series.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wacom_(company)
My note 3 s pen seemed identical in using to draw on the note 5 screen...
Used my Surface Pro 3 Pen on the N5 as well as the other way around with the same experience on both devices.
I do agree that is not as sensitive. I had to put a slight force in order to work sometimes.
