HTC One Sweden users thread - One (M7) General

Hey guys , I thought it would be nice if there was a thread for us Swedes. I'll give you a heads up and let you know I'm coming to this device, hopefully in about a month or so, so you know whom to hide from. I'm a flashaholic/professional whinger/indecisive rom slut but I'll try to keep the One unrooted/stock for at least a while. Or not. Never know how things play out.

Great.
Ser fram emot att prata om den här otroligt mobil.
I'm actually English but have been living in Sweden for 11 years now, hope that provides me sufficient entitlement to grace this thread.

You're Swedish enough ^^
This phone's gonna kick ass!
There have been a few users who don't recommend HTC at all. Fault prone yada yada poor service. How true is that today?

Would you be so inclined to tell the users @Gustopher @DeadSOL amongst others exactly how good it is? They're not exactly pro-HTC

Too bad for them, one cannot force good taste upon others.
You just have to read the reviews......

Hopefully mine will arrive tomorrow or Monday. Ordered a black one. It's nice to think i'll be one of the first owners in Sweden.

This is the exact same problem that a lot of HTC devices face (I've seen it in person with the One X). Sometimes, the brightness isn't right with the display. Sometimes, there's a yellow tint. Sometimes, you can see backlight bleeding.
Now, people may be lucky enough to get a unit free of defects but it doesn't erase the fact that these problems exist with HTC devices. This is only the hardware part of the issue! Once you start using Sense UI, the entire Android experience is ruined!
I'm just looking out for you, Shawty! I don't want you to make the wrong choice and then not have enough money to replace it if you end up not liking it!

F*** it, I'm still getting it. I'm sure most if not all issues are first batch problems like all phones have.

Fortune favours the brave.
The only problem I have is a remarkably small gap and the occasional speaker pops, barely audible but still the. Would I buy it still knowing this.....hell yes. Best phone ever. Techradar's review sums it up nicely.

Linköping is covered by 4G by both Telia and Three, if you want to go visiting around other parts of Sweden some less well inhabited but still nevertheless picturesque parts I suggest Telia otherwise Three.
Linköping is the 7th biggest town in Swedn with around 150 000 people. Its not too far from Stockholm.
I am originally from Huddersfield. Ayee lad!

Mourinho can move over... there is a new Special One.
I got a lovely, blinky, blanky, spinky, spanky new One from Telia on the 24th and have not been able to put it down since. There was a slight bwah, bwah, bwaaah, moment of deflation when I didn't get the sim card on the same day - in fact I had to wait until after the following weekend - but it was still pretty grand on wi-fi.
However, now it's all set and I'm enjoying those soaring 4G speeds. I thought I'd give my initial impressions/experiences:
Plus
The look and feel is sublime.
The camera is fantastic - playing with Zoe is great and I haven't missed any of those much talked about megapixels.
The screen is crystal clear and super bright.
The SOUND is a world ahead of any other phone speakers - almost zero tinniness and a nice noticable bass.
The speed and smoothness is, well, speedy and smoothy as one would expect. No jerks, no lags.
The little notification LED behind the top speaker grill is ace.
Call quality es muy excellenté.
Generally the phone is a joy to use.
Minus
The camera - though fantastic - is rather complicated for a schmuck such as yours truly. Although for the level of functionality it affords, I suppose the complexity is necessary. Of course, it's simply a matter of becoming used to using the various menus etc..
I miss the physical "press to wake" button on the front. For example, if I want to check the time, I have to hold the phone in place to press the top button. First world problems I know, but still. I'd have liked the hTC logo to have been a pressable button.
When using the Zoe function - Google+ Instant upload will upload each frame as a separate picture, as is its raison d'ètre. Don't know how or if this can be solved in any smart fashion, but it's a bit jobbig.*
I think that's about it.
Is it a bug?
1) During a call to my son at a Valborgsfirande* last week, I was in a big crowd and tried to signal him using the torch function. Before displaying the message "Cannot use torch during a call", or something similar, the phone went through I'd say 30 seconds of freakiness. Screen went black and then came on again several times, buttons wouldn't respond, that sort of thing.
2) After using the Zoe function on the cam, I watched the resulting 30 second "Zoe". I decided to alter the content it chose to include by using the "select content" option from the menu. However, it seemed to ignore my selection of clips to be used and went with what it thought best instead.
3) I was listening to Watford v Leeds using TuneIn Pro on Saturday. Watford needed a win to automatically qualify for the Premiership - unfortunately they lost and will have to contest the playoffs. Hopefully this can be fixed in the next OTA update.
*1 a bit of a bummer
*2 It's a big Swedish festival, where youngsters get drunk very near a large fire which has been started by a procession of what looks like a torch-bearing KKK close harmony male voice choir.

The One is not like previous htc phones.
It's actually a great phone which rivals the S4 without the gimmicks. The screen is amazing. I'm glad I made the change instead of opting for the S4.
It doesnt suffer the same lag that the S3 and S4 does... Prob cause sense 5 is more optimised than TW and it's a step closer to stock android.
Only thing I miss is the removable battery, but being a Nexus fan I'm guessing the shawty won't mind this.

I don't care whether the phone has a removable battery or not. I've never needed to switch batteries since I have a charges near me the entire day when I'm not in school or at work. I will definitely get it, but I'll have to wait until the beginning of July. I'm sure it'll still be a great phone by then.

Har försökt att ta bort appen "senaste updatering", rensa historik osv.
Men inget verkar hjälpa.
Vad ska jag göra för att fixa detta? Är det ett problem relaterat till zoe eller är det youtube appen som inte funkar som den ska?

The story of my X10

I bought the x10 as my first android.
I had very high intentions for it.
But after using it for a few days it was laggy, overheating..
So i figured i should update to the latest firmware and do a full reset.
Loading 2.1 made it only worse..
Then after a grueling 8 months, SE finally replaced the mother board.
You can clearly see by the slightly darkened tint and manufacturing process that this is gona be a good one.
By this point i figured that mabey i was insane and that the hardware was just that weak.
The i loaded CM.. and started applying tweaks i used on my old x10 to improve my phone speed.. "VM_heap = 32, max_actions_per_sec = 30.. you get the idea..
Supreme lord! i love my X10.
And for that i must thank XDA without the friendly help here and innovative idea's.
I must thank all the dev's for taking the initiative and showing SE that freedom shall prevail,
"We will not be bound by your rules, We stand tall we are FFA"
I'm no noob.. i might take a while to really catch on.
But what do you expect from a 27 year old with IQ of 179 and A.D.D.
I love the success and happy stories. I dont see many good ones. Thanks for sharing.
Sent from XDA Premium from my X10a rooted running 2.2.1 CM Rom from Rendeiro2005
Right..we should thanks all devs here..without them x10 won't become superb..I bought my x10 4 months ago and feel regret at the first time because lack of MT and update..But right now after some tweak and use CM6 as my rom..I love it so much..My friends who has Iphone always admire my x10 screen which has bright, wide screen and with bitsnacker theme..I hope after we got stable custom kernel our x10 become more superb..
It's a good thing you posted your IQ...
That isn't remotely pretentious or anything.
well someone could make a sappy movie out of your story, specially the ending when your IQ is revealed, leaving the audience in silence & awe

Not what i meant. Ie. My iphone dropped calls. It didnt do what a phone was meant for. If you didnt want a phone you shoild get a tablet or an itouch.
A smart phone is a phone not a tablet or computer thats a phone. Its a phone thats a computer (tool as he puts it)as advertised not technically speaking.
A car is not a radio. Cars can have radios installed and removed. My silvia doesnt have a radio. My x10 and iphone make calls and have plans. My itouch does not.
Point is...the x10 is a phone. A smart phone. If you want a tool that makes phone calls get a um..phone

That's fair enough, but I still only use my (phone) for maybe 10% of its use. If I had my way, it would no longer be called a phone or smartphone. Itouches or tablets are too big and don't make calls, therefore no use to me. All I'm saying is that there would be a huge list if things I use my (mobile) for before I'd get to "make phone calls"
but that's just my opinion.
Itouch is ipod touch it fits in yoir pocket and gets wifi.

@OP, I guess higher isn't always better. My IQ certainly isn't that high, but I had the lag problem resolved a week after purchasing back in November with root, JIT, and junk apps removed. I guess I was dumb enough to look to others for help. ;-)
However, I do agree that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 V05 and Z's Free X10 definitely took things to the next level. Really looking forward to trying custom Kernel ROMs shortly, and SE official 2.3.3 Gingerbread update in late June/early July.

Lat time I traveled in Europe I had three! One for my Oz account with my email / WiFi & contacts, one for my UK / Europe account (because Oz account charge a fortune over there in most countries), and one Sat Phone for use when I was at sea in the Med.
It got so bad I almost gave it all up and went of a Sat Phone all the time, but the reception is useless inside any building.
My neighbors jaw dropped lookin @ my phone..
Funny, I keep explaining to others comparing the same with iPhone, for me its my first Android phone, and I am running ICS and end up showing stuffs pretty much and there will be a crash or something crazy..!! lolz, though after two days I feel other phones are so tiny.
Now imagine this: i show my note and everyone asks:" how much did it cost? " and i simply say:" it was free... Won it in a contest on Stuff.tv site"
And everyone thinks this: Damn you bastard... I never win anything!
And guess what? I already made new friends because of it LOL

The only stranger who ever gave my Note more than a moment's glance was a guy I was sitting beside in a seminar. I was using it both to take notes and record audio, while he was using his GS2 to record, and one of the Galaxy Tabs (I think 8.9) to take notes. He was looking over to it constantly, surely with the thought that it must be a great combination of the two devices.
As far as non-strangers are concerned, my wife (an iPhone 4 user) is jealous about damn near everything I've shown her on it. She might end up with the pink or white Note.
I was really surprised with the amount of positive feedback that people gave to the note, including iPhone users etc.
Something interesting I noticed was that at my campus there seem to be a lot of folks with a phone+iPad or phone+playbook or any other tablet etc. (even my gf falls into this category). It just seems sort of silly to me to carry around two devices everywhere.
To be fair, though, I would never use the Note as a primary note-taking device, and have definitely seen iPad users use their devices for this purpose. Like some other users have mentioned, a 6" screen would be just fine in my book, as long as it still made calls.
However, if I didn't have a stereo bluetooth headset I would notice the size of it when using as an actual phone much more...
Ha. How about this one, I was on the phone with the Note on Thursday afternoon in the foyer of our business complex (talking to ATT nonetheless) and saw a Guy walk past me looking right at the phone and is massive size up to my ear and COMPLETELY forgot to open the door to go outside and slammed right into it.

Yesterday my friends made jokes about exactly this situation all evening long - and yet could'nt resist to playing arround with it. It got the attention from both Galaxy (SI & SII) and iPhone users...

"Samsung Now Says Galaxy S III Won’t Support DC-HSPA"

I couldn't find any other reference to this about turn by Samsung - apologies if it's been posted before.
Source: http://www.itproportal.com/2012/05/23/samsung-now-says-galaxy-s-iii-wont-support-dc-hspa/
My main reason for pre-ordering an SIII to replace my Note was the support for dual channel HSPA; I'm on O2 UK, and use my phone predominantly in central London, so the possibility of support for 42Mbps throughput is appealing - and I would never have agreed a 2 year contract without this 'future-proofing' feature.
I'm not sure whether the change of specification is due to marketing incompetence, production cost, quality control, firmware readiness or something more sinister, but none of these reflect well on Samsung. The fact that this has been quietly removed from the spec just a week before shipping is even worse.
Oh well

i dont remember reading any spec sheet with dc hspa
DC-HSPA Claims 42 throughout? Or Mbps? A device is only as capable as it can be, or worse. If the hardware is unchanged from what you had signed up for and it is truly incapable of DualCell ... you'd more upset to have it "with" it.
Flip side, a. Device hardware is unchanged, just "support" is removed.... Do some pushups! Is time for a workaround!
Flip b. Hardware change, we're boned for neutrino speed and have to settle for light. ..
Edit: i love that article for one reason, the person that wrote it is not on xda.
Buy the phone, internationally if you have to (we had to do it too, for a lot ), modify it appropriately...
Are we not just talking about dc-? Isn't that rel7 tech? I'm currently trying t... Oh nvm ... That's a pipedream. But I've tripled my WiMAX (you don't want it) speeds using things like "tricking" my phone into thinking i was using cdma and this "LteforCDMAmode" that was in ril.dump but i can't seem to replicate it or find info on it...

T-Mobile U.S. uses DC-HSPA. Their refarming away from AWS so there's a chance their version of the SGS3 will have quad-band support. If so, that could be an alternative.

that is true we will find out when we get it
To be honest i dont really care. The chances of the networks actually delivering anything like that much in real throughput is zero. They struggle to deliver even 1Mbps most of the time for more than a minute without the connection crapping out.

Yep... I agree with this. It's all very well having the capability but o2's back end network is in no shape to deliver

i would suppose the 3.5G is a small step towards 4G really. And since 4G hasnt even begun in the UK, and it will take a while until you are in a position to use 4G in most areas of the country, then id say, we would have to get the next samsung phone in 2-3 years with it.
Besides, LTE tends to drain the batteries quite fast as well, and to me it would be more valuable in a tablet rather than a phone.
How much browsing can you do on a mobile(even 4.8inch screen) before you say: god i have a headache staring at this phone already!

Well, it's been a good run!

My HD2 has finally failed. A quick death (a week ago working fine; now the dreaded "screen is not responding" issue.)
Just a quick good bye to my HD2 kin.
From learning to theme on WM (making cabs!) to learning android (decompiling!) it was all done here.
Off to something new. Maybe the HTC One...we'll see.
(and if you have tmobile US and have a suggestion, I am all ears...)
Cheers to all and thanks.
have you tried pressing the power and call button simultaneously?

Thanks, mate. Occasionally works...but often when I need it working it is dead!
Oh well. Great excuse to get a new toy.
Cheers.

Still my favorite device. Screen died on mine too. Gonna try and fix it. I have a Vivid and a One X. Still love the HD2 though.

So true. Wish it would keep working.
I still have my good ol' hd2, only one volume button works, bottom buttons are finnicky, and I had to sacrifice the radio antenna coax to use it for a wifi coax, usb port is broken out of the phone, but I still take it out of my drawer of dead phones and play around with it sometimes. RIP HD2, best smartphone ever made

Hi James, sorry to hear that news buddy,I recently passed on my HD2 to my wife and after very little use by her (tbh she barely uses it as a phone, more like an move player) she had broken the head phone socket,i.e the jack won't slide in. As you can see from my sig I've gone to a galaxy note as my daily driver, it's been a great move, but if you were considering the note, get the international version unless you really need the 4g lte of the us phone.all the best to you ..Marc

:crying::crying::crying::crying: I cant tell you how upset I am after loosing my HD2 today...
they say a person's anger is his greatest victim and I learned that lesson
Smashed my HD2 on the floor in anger...now I only have bits and pieces of it left. Was my first phone I bought with my first paycheck...more than the price was the emotional value of the phone...nothing can bring it back.
Take a lesson from my experience and never let your anger lead you. :crying::crying:
A last pic.
^ a Woman can cause so much rage but yours seems beyond that...
poor HD2. (though that thought sometimes crosses my mind - smashing teh pone)

Recent galaxy s4 reviews will make us all smile

If u were one of those people that was torn between the HTC one and the galaxy s4 .. well.. laggy, gimmicky, and boring design all seem to be mentioned in all the top website reviews on the final build s4. Stuff.tv and pocketnow are amoung a few sites rating the HTC one higher than the s4

After having a galaxy s (still going) and seeing Samsung's lack of software support, on that alone I'd choose the HTC ONE. I'd be happy with the hardware upgrade of the S4, but the ONE seems like its of better build quality.
Not only that, but the whole PR debacle where Samsung was revealed to have been spreading bad user reviews of the HTC One also casts a shadow of doubt on anybody ridiculously badmouthing the One. Good job Samsung!
Hopefully the fact that almost all of the reviews mention the HTC One in comparison will give it the media exposure it is lacking due to minimal advertising.
Wow is that confirmed to be true? But yeah its some media exposure for HTC is always good.

In my past experiences, Samsung was not much better. I hated dealing with their customer service as well, was a pain in the rear.
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/samsung-says-galaxy-s4-delayed-191217386.html
yeah right
I suppose I could just be having a bad experience with Samsung. In a way I'm glad, otherwise I wouldn't have tried so many great ROMs. I still think it should have been upgraded past gingerbread though.
just picked up my One a couple days ago. Wow. This thing is so buttery smooth it's like silk! I'm totally digging this masterpiece.

i never had a phone from them, but i had one of their high end $ 3000 led tv got it replaced twice by amazon (thanks amazon) while samsung customer service a-hole told me (after 50+ calls over a month and 2 tv sets) they will not honor the warranty due me abusing the tv by keeping it on for more than 6 hours because the tv was reseting every 15-30 min (really i bought an lg led never had problem with and will keep on for a day sometime w/o problem), so no thanks if samsung will make the last anything on the planet i will not buy it.

Sony , Nokia , ASUS, LG's problems disappeared in a second. hTC sacrifices itself to save the world.
I was one of the people who was torn between the S4 and HTC One i kept changing me mind right up to the last minute. I was coming from an S2 which i never had any problems with infact its still a great phone over 2 years old (the misses uses it now and loves it) I'm glad i went with the One though it has that WOW factor that i dont think the S4 has. i'm more than happy with my decision the One is an amazing piece of kit
I take it all but the most demented Sammy trolls are now far too busy over on the S4 forums to hang around our street corner anymore.
