Getting MSL #??? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Does anyone know how to get your msl # on this phone w/o calling sprint...I know I got it on my E4GT using getprop ril.MSL in terminal emulator, but that did not work for me...wasn't sure if anyone knew a different way?
Thanks in advance!

I did it using the getprop ril.MSL method, worked fine for me.
I followed the instructions for the S3 (method 2), worked beautifully...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745888

The key is to enter a random number first and get the error. Then run getprop.

If you are rooted can't you just use MSL Reader from the Play Store? Should work but haven't tried on the S4.

You don't have to be rooted to run the MSL Reader app. Just put in a wrong MSL code first, then run the app.

Does the S4 have the same options in the dialer menu to override the Sprint Proxy (putting in all zeros)?

Successfully got my MSL by ##3282##, entering wrong MSL, then go to Terminal Emulator, type "getprop ril.MSL". Bingo Bango.

Current version of MSL Reader not compatible with GS4. Stick to getprop or calling Sprint.

[Q] Sprint GS4 SPH-L720T Tri-band get MSL Code??

has anyone had any luck yet on acquiring MSL code on the new sprint galaxy s4 triband. I've tried adb shell getprop ril.MSL method and tried using cdma tools anyone know if a method that works?
You'll likely have to try this:
Hello Sprint, please give me my MSL.
As of now I believe that is the only thing that will work.
thanks,

Apparently they have "criteria" now for giving out the MSL and the couple of reps I spoke with stated they won't... effin' sprint..anyway, hope he gets lucky and gets it.. if not...
there is a SPCutility.apk floating around that I used (s4- 720, not T though) that might work too..I"m not sure if the apk posted above is the same one or not, but might have a second option if it isn't..
here's the links to it..

Days later on the "What is my MSL trail..." Empty handed until now.

Tested on a 720T, rooted, 4.3 stock ROM, MK5. IOW, the aforementioned .apk is golden my in my tiny spot in this universe.

I just called sprint yesterday and told them I wanted the msl code to make sure all prl settings were correct because I was getting really bad signal. They confirmed my meid number and gave me the msl code without any hassle. I would give that a go.
Edit: right now I'm rocking a Verizon prl and getting far better signal at my house

[Q] SPC Password

Ok I have search, Skimmed, read, dug, and any other adjective you want to call it looking for this for the past 6+ hours in the fourms.
It is now 2:15 am (est)
Could someone please help me in finding the SPC\MSL 16 digit password for my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 running version 4.4.2?
I am able to get the SPC/MSL number easly, the 16 number passcode is were I am running into an issue.
The codes I have already tired are:
2009031920090615
2012112120131219
01F2030F5F678FF9
None of these have worked.
I really need this to be able to flash my phone using DFS CDMA tool.
That or if someone can tell me how to bypass or flash it without it that would be helpful.
Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated.
I am going to bed now, and will check this in the a.m.
Thank you anyone in advance. :silly:

BTW MSL numbers are only six digits. For example mine is 993XXX.

I have the MSL number, what I need is the 16 digit passcode that needs to be put in to allow me to write the flash info to the phone.
I am using DFS CDMA tool and right next to the MSL/SPC number you have to put in the passcode that is suppose to be the same for all S4s running KK 4.4.2
I am having trouble finding the right passcode for it.

[Q] Please Help: How to get Sprint S4 to work on Straight Talk

Hey guys, Right now i am sitting here very confused. I have two Samsung Galaxy S4's from Sprint. They were given to me by my god sister but i cant figure out how to make them work for Straight Talk. They are both running 4.4.2 and the base band is L720VPUFNAE. I was told by sprint last night that they could be unlocked and that all i needed was a MSL number. I was given the MSL for both phones already but don't know what im suppose to do to the phones to be able to unlock them. I have looked through several threads throughout several forums and i have tried several codes such as *#0011# as well ##3423# but nothing works. I cant find any concrete answers that don't completely confuse me. So my question is...Is there anyway to actually get this phone working on Straight Talk? Does it have to flashed or unlocked first and if so how to actually do that? Is there anyway to do this without rooting the phones? If not whats the easiest way to root the phone to make this possible? Please im Just looking for some help.

At one point did you Odin the MDC or MDL modem ? You have to in order to successfully unlock the phone.

If successful
No I didn't I guess I will try again... If I'm assuming correctly once I do this I should be able to just put a straight talk SIM card in the slot to use the phone

IF you follow everything. And perform the international unlock plus domestic. And put the Sim card in plus set the APNs to the correct ones then you should be fine.

NAE
Since my baseband is NAE do i just use the original file or use the one for NAE mention at the end of the international unlock thread

Everythign was going perfectly fine until i got booted into philz Recovery. In the video it wasnt stated that a new rom had to be placed on the phone until after everything was wiped.
I didnt have anything on the SD hence i didnt know i had to install from the phone. So i picked the option to reboot but now I cant get past "Samsung Galaxy S4" screen on Start up. I tried to re flash the phone through odin but everything i try fails. I dont know what to do now. I cant start up or get into Recovery Mode, only download mode. When i try to get into the recovery mode all i get is a message saying "Firmware upgrade encounter an issue"
If anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it.

Lollipop Hotspot, no root or flashing needed

The only think you need ahead of time is your MSL. This isn't too hard to get from Sprint customer service. I got mine via an app called MSL Utility, which it seems now crashes every time I try to use it on Lollipop.
The steps:
Go to Dialer and enter ##DATA# (##3282#)
Press "Edit" then enter your MSL.
Click on APN Settings
For both "APN2 EHRPD internet" and "APN2 LTE internet" change APN Type from "default, mms" to "default, mms, dun"
After you enter the change, hit Menu -> Save before going to the next APN.
And that's it. That easy. It works for both Hotspot and USB tethering. Seems too easy, but that's all I had to do.
UPDATE 5/21/2015
There's been some concerns that this wouldn't work with the OE1 updated that's started rolling out. I can tell you that it works just fine. Feel free to click that update button!
UPDATE 8/03/2015
Confirmed, still works on the OG5 5.1.1 update.
UPDATE 11/06/2015
Tested, still works with OJ6 update.
This didn't work for me. It appears to work, but then it tries to sell me a tethering plan.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
did you try rebooting?
Turns out I was not on lte or ehrpd. It works now.
Confirming this works. Thanks for this.
Works great! Thanks!
Might want to turn off auto-update because sprint is bound to push an update through to patch this simple fix

Worked like a champ
So calling is only way to get msl on lollipop?

THANKS A LOT! one of the main reasons I wanted root!!
Work just perfect, now my question is, does sprint can detect when im using hotspot service this way?
Dont know
They probably know... i have used it since gs3 then note 3 and now note 4 doubt they really care too much about it
There is another ota coming in alril after the s6 drops i have a friend whos a manager for sprint in boston mass
When you do an prl update itll need to be re-inserted.
i called sprint the other day over slow LTE issue. I was on the phone with a tech who eventually had me do ##72786#. after this session i was unable to obtain hotspot through galaxy tools using method 1 or 2. Prior i had no issue.
I didnt have my MSL and had deleted my last NK2 backup so had to go through the whole process of reverting to NK2 and back to my backed up OB7.
My OB7 backup was prior to the sprint session and so hotspot is working fine. Any ideas of what sprint pushed to my device?

You should caveat that your mod needs Root since this is a post about a way to hack it without root. I haven't rooted my phone yet and frankly the hotspot issue was the only thing I missed that and call record. Probably wait till my warranty is out before I root.
