I briefly tested plugging my 64gb flash drive in via my USB OTG cable; it showed up as storage but wasn't readable (was formatted in NTFS, i had data i didn't want to loose on it so i didn't try to format it). So my guess it USB OTG is enabled and working properly, however i have not 100% confirmed that.

Seems like otg is enabled.
Anyone able to check mhl?

I have an MHL adapter, I will go home a check for you tonight....

otg usb?

Question for those lucky few who already have this device. Does the note have otg usb like the gs2 and also is there a hdmi out?
Sent from my Google Nexus S using Tapatalk
the otg and MHL adaptor for GS2 is working well for Galaxy Note
there is no hdmi out, but it should work with an MHL USB - HDMI cable! Unfortunately I don't own one to test...

I would imagine how I use my usb port on my tablet. Shove my music and videos on it. Also transfer files back and forth.

My guess is that it's a bad adapter, if *nothing* works, but you know your micro usb port is connecting with other things well.

OTG Cable??

Hi,
I have purchased an OTG cable for my Nexus 7 and when I plug it in it flashes for a second and then goes off. Do I need to do something to get this to work?
Thanks

You're connecting a USB flash drive?
the N7 doesnt support usb flash drives out of the box you will need to find an app to mount it, or if your rooted use the terminal to mount it
Most popular app used to mount USB storage is Stickmount. It's been updated to work with JB/Nexus 7, too.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount
I bought the right angle usb otg cable from New Egg for 3.99 US and it works great.
I also have a micro sdcard reader from Lexar that is designed to plug into the usb port so I'm staying pretty compact that way.
Install stick mount, I use that to use my 64GB USB for extra storage.

I had to trim the plastic around my otg adaptor before it would connect properly and let stickmount work. Now works perfectly with sandisc cruzers

I have downloaded stick mount however that requires root so its a no go, also I see that people are saying they bought the right otg cable and it worked, is that non-rooted? If so where can I buy the right cable from as I am in UK?
Thanks

If not rooted- the stickmount app does pop up, but can't mount the device and you have no access to attached device because you don't have superuser rights.
So- you need to be rooted- and use the stickmount app.... that's it.

Yes, it does, read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743052
So long as you have rooted your device and installed Stickmount.

I got an OTG cable but I cannot mount USB sticks :(

I'm rooted, stock rom, franco kernel. I downloaded stickmount. When I plug my usb stick in it mounts it, or claims to anyway but it actually mounted things in sdcard/usbstorage with names like /sd2, /sd3, /sd4 ... /sd12. None of these are my usb stick.
I tried another USB mounter in the playstore that mounts to /dev/block/sda and it said it worked, but the directory does not exist.
Have I wasted my money? Is USB mounting possible?
Go into your custom recovery and select "usb-otg" to see if it is being recognized properly.
The cable has to be a specific kind. You can't just buy any OTG cable. For the Nexus 7 to read OTG correctly, pins 4 'ID Pin' and 5 'ground' have to be shorted together. I suspect you bought a cable that is not compatible with the Nexus 7. I personally make my own so i don't waste the money on a 50% chance.

Also do you have "StickMount"? Thats the only working solution I find
I use USB otg helper. Works great.

any updates on this problem, guys? I have my (unrooted/unlocked) Nexus 7 which doesn't recognize any pendrives or HDD via OTG cable. the same OTG cable works with my friends Nexus 7, Xperia Z (both brand new) and another Xperia set.

Kernel/ROM combo?
I would suggest using the app Paragon, works well to mount NTFS file systems (stick mount only works with FAT32). Also, be sure you're using a good OTG cable. Here the best one I've found, on Amazon for $7.99.
Hope this helps!

Stick mount cab read from NTFS. It has issues with writing to and editing on NTFS.

I'm not rooted (completely stock) and I use Nexus Media Importer, I can only transfer from usb to nexus, but I only use it to watch videos and play music I have stored on my USB flash drive.

I got this:
http://www.amazon.ca/Micro-USB-OTG-2-0-Adapter/dp/B005QX7KYU
Is this the wrong one? When I plug my USB headphones into it, I don't hear anything in the headphones, BUT the volume rocker on the headphones seems to work. What do I do about USB mounting
It doesn't specify that it is for the N7, so chances are that it's not the correct one.

The reviews say it works for the N7.... any help?
It might be a bum cable... Or your usb port is borked...

my USB headphones worked with USB audio tester (I would like to know how to enable these headphones within the OS though...)
but nope, no love from OTG helper, it says it cannot find a usb drive.
And you've tried different usb drives? What format?

I have stock android, no stock rom or kernals, anything. Also I checked with my friend's Nexus 7, and virtually everything is same- stock andriod 4.2.2, 16GB, (now rooted), unlocked bootloader (unlock sign while powering up). I even reset both of them- still the same.

Can Note 2 mount portable HDD via micro-usb OTG cable?

Hi, guys. I have got my note 2 rooted. I would like to know if note 2 is able to read data from portable HDD(NTFS) via micro usb cable. I want to watch movies which store in my portable HDD. Thanks
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Free mobile app
I was able to read files from an external hdd with his own power supply, so I believe u will not face any problem. As for ntfs you have to use a third party app to mount it, though I don't know if there is any custom kernel that supports ntfs mount, the stock one does not support it.

Devil or AGNI kernel and download Paragon NTFS or USB OTG Helper from PlayStore.

I was not that lucky, had a Hitachi portable HDD tested, the HDD emitted an abnormal mechanical noise due to insufficient power supply. However, USB flash disk worked in that way perfectly.
Yes, the power provided by the phone is not enough. I used a little trick, I don't know if you can do it too: My 2.5" portable HDD had a Y USB cable. One plug is for power and data, the other one just for more power, if needed. I connected the power+data cable to my USB OTG cable, the other end to a 5V USB power supply. I don't know if it's good for the phone, but it worked like a charm and the phone didn't get warm or so.
But as far as I know, not every external HD has a Y shaped cable.
