[Q] GPS Navigation (apps) - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
can you suggest an offline GPS navi program which works on GS4 (1080p display)? Can anyone confirm if any of the 'flagships' worked on it (ie.: IGO, Navigon MN, TomTom, Sygic,...)?
Thanks a lot, regards.

OK, i confirm, IGO and Navigon MN work properly

TomTom works fine, too ... AND TomTom does store its data on your external SD. Pushing Navigon to external doesn't work,(did work on S3 though...), and foldermount can't do the job either, navigon doesn't work afterwards and starts downloading once more...
edit: foldermount DOES work for me now, re-flashed STOCK ME2 and applied djembey's modified AutoRoot, now evrything's fine...

what version of iGO are you using and can you post the screen_xy line from sys.txt ?
Cheers.

I've got the free CoPilot app running on my S4. Seems to be working OK, just waiting for my screen mount to arrive to be able to test it out properly!

iGo is for iPhone... i use Navigon Europe, TomTom Europe AND CoPilot Live at the same time, moved maps to extSD with foldermount to save space, and all three are working fine, different quality of maps for different regions (e.g. balkans...) but overall they are quite similar regarding functionality...i think its more a question of personal taste than features...

Hmm no... iGo was on Windows Mobile at first, then iPhone + basic version on Android, and recently they released a much better version of iGo Primo on Android.
I've been using iGo on Android for years (on HTC HD2 first, then Galaxy S3), and I find it much better than the others currently for my use
Sygic is pretty good too and it looks great, but lacks features compared to iGo Primo.

I was using Copilot version 5 for a while before the GPS problem came in to prevent me using it, but that's another story.
The question that I want to ask is, with version 6, were you able to see the addresses in your address book? With version 5 I was not able to do that. Instead of listing the names in address book like it used to under windows mobile 2003, it merely asks me to enter the state and city, but worst is that the keyboard is not there for me to make any entry (both copilot's own keyboared and WM5's keyboard were missing).

Keyboard worked perfectly for me and I was able to navigate to a contact's address. If I didn't answer your question let me know. I've since installed CoPilot on my girlfriends Universal and can check into things for you.
Has any one of you used copilot with either ozVGA or MvRTVGA? I found two problem:
a. It occupies only 1/4 of the screen.
b. when using the Option Menu, only the first tab can be edited. All the other tabs have gone missing.
Come across this problem? How do you fix them?
Thanks.

I'll double that bet and say get IGO as it's even more superior than tomtom6
I can confirm that T-Mobile now stock the Ameo with Co Pilot,
I've received it today. Yet to install it though, will do that later and tell you if I have the same problems regarding screen size and options. I have been told that this was a fault recognised which is why there was a delay in release and the box clease says "now compatible with T-Mobile Ameo" so perhaps a software update..?
Gives you a okay quality mount to put the item in the car, and a car charger also.
Plus I like some of the trace facilities that Co-Pilot has to offer over TomTom Buddies

Never used co-pilot, but iGo beats TomTom with a ****ty stick. It's just more polished, faster to load maps, re-calculates routes quicker.
If you want to try it to compare then it is available on torrent. Although I'm not condoning that type of activity mind you.

Yes, I hope they come out with US maps soon. I would love to give it a try. Just curious as to the accuracy of the product. Looking good is one thing, but getting you where you need to be is another alltogether.
I remember that CoPilot wasn't that accurate based on my experience. So far TomTom has been great.

I-go is much faster and smoother and the routing is far better (largely because you can customise it much more than TomTom). The only thing TomTom does better is traffic (which is not available for I-go)

But to use TMC you need an RDS TMC decoder, which the Ameo does not have. Also, note that TMC messages can be hacked:http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=54812

Have you checked out TomTom's website for Windows Mobile software? I believe they have at least the CAB file for the application, which lets you download 1 free map after you install it.

TomTom 7 runs perfectly fine on my TP2. Not sure if they're wanting to release one a bit more friendlier for WVGA, but it looks and operates fine for me the way it is.
Really? Don't you find it a bit choppy/jerky? It used to run perfectly smooth on my old Vogue, but I think it's due to the much higher resolution.

As far as performance, it's not choppy for me. Runs fairly smooth to me.
Does anyone have any idea when TomTom 8 is going to see release for WinMo in general. Thought I'd throw that out there whilst we're semi on the topic .

Gps on Wildfire

What software and maps to instal on Wildfire for Europe?
Google Maps, Navigon
You could use Google Maps and Navigon.. Google Maps comes with the Wildfire, and I just installed Navigon on my girlfriend's Wildfire now without any trouble. Probably a lot of other ones too.. Doesn't TomTom have a map thing for Android as well?
I have installed Sygic Mobile Maps 10 and works fine for me.
Gps software
I shortly had a look at NDRIVE, which seems to work as sat nav should.
Its not in dutch, yet so that puts me of a bit.
I read some rumors on tom tom coming with its version for android, i hope the become fact very soon.
I installed Sygic mobile maps and activate smm10 europe but i dont have maps
I personally use CoPilot.
Can you pm me link for copilot?
Buy it at: alk.com

GPS Solution for India and free Google Nav for US and outside
Firstly SKYE MENJOU .. Nice to see someone helping out ppl here .. keep it up buddy..
There are no India MAPS for Copilot and nothing for Igo too..really sad as both are nice apps.. I haven't tried much with Navigon so no idea about that..
MAPS ARE AVAILABLE FOR:::
NDrive and Sygic GPS .. used both but i liked Sygic GPS .. only issue is the male voice for English directions i would have loved a female voice.. ANYHOW..here is an important piece of Info:: SYGIC GPS also has no maps for India but you can download a compatible map from MAPmyIndia that works perfectly with Sygic..
Free stuff::
We all love free stuff so for all those who are interested in free google navigation ..yes i mean people outside U.S as it is officially available in US but google has conveniently ignored rest of the world:::GO HERE

The success of voice guidance will depend on the way you pronounce things. That will be the main problem, as most Indians think they speak perfectly understandable English when in fact, they don't....

Sygic mobile maps 10 can do this job.....although less good I think is a TomTom look-a-like navi.....
Is anyone else getting a lag with Sygic?
I've tried Copliot but do not like the interface, it looks like something from the Early Learning Centre!
Sygic looks the part but I'm getting a BIG lag, say 50m sometimes up to 100m!
I have Mobile Maps 10 version 8.14

Which GPS program currently working with Froyo?

I have heard that the latest version of CoPilot does not work with Froyo.
Are there any other GPS programs out there that work with Froyo?
Motonav. but make sure u get the right resolution for ur screen (480x800)
I am currently using CoPilot with Darkstone Froystone series without any issues.

been playing around with many gps-apps on android, like ndrive, navigon, google maps.... never had any issue with gps. all are working fine. fast fix, reliable signal....
I'm using the latest version of Copilot Live with MattC Android 1.5b (Froyo 2.2) and everything works great!
Im using MattC 1.7 and Copilot works perfectly. Have been using copilot since 1.5 without hassle.
I use Motonav and works well...
I also use Navigon and for me it's just better because more reliable and faster!
I just regret the lack of TTS voices on both of them!

I had the same question. I have a Moto Milestone and I've been using Igo MyWay for quite a long time. I like it cuz it supports a map of Colombia with the latest poi's. ANy help will be appreciated.
Now it's the three of us whose looking for the same thing I don't even mind a good navigation app that supports 540 x 960?
Get the app "HD Wallpapers" they all work on the Atrix's resolution.
I'm on the same boat!!!
I need a good app that works on Atrix (similar to iGo) and that supports Colombia maps and poi's. Help needed!
Thanks
Any brilliant thoughts so far?
Maybe a good choice could be Sygic. It supports all resolutions.

Yep, iGo is the best for Middle East. It was absolute winner for Israel until Waze, for now Waze (which is Israeli development) is believed to be the best option for Israel (it's also have good map for US from my experience, and as i heard for a major EU countries), plus it's 100% free (and works well in qHD too), the only problem is that you need to be online to use it normally, it does not works well offline. I don't know how well it supports other ME countries though, but it may be worth checking it.

On Android is data.gro which one suppose to be located somewhere there: data/data/com.navngo.igo.javaclient/data.gro or /app/app/com.navngo.igo.javaclient/ ...
But I can't found (use ES folder explorer) any way even do what tool i need to edit

I am sure a developer can create a qHD version if we create an incentive donation fund? (I've seen custom resolutions for other phones created by devs).
I would be willing to chip in 5$ for the cause.
So, if you really want it, lets start a thread and chip in for a dev to make one for us!
Who's with me?
