Let's get a N8 to a great rom developer beanstown106 - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) General

I contacted the developer beanstown106 about getting him a note 8.0 so he can port his ROM from the note 2 over to the Note 8 and he said he would be willing to.
For the people who don't know who beanstown106 is he is the developer of one of the best ROMs for the note 2 (i know there are many ROMs and i have tried a ton of them) It is the ROM I am currently using and have been for months as it has so many goodies including sd swap, custom kernel options and a lot, I mean A LOT to offer. Here is a link so you can see his work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032447
Let's do this so the note 8.0 can be a much better device then it already is
He set up this gofundme page already and here goes the first $20 http://www.gofundme.com/2qa1q8?utm_campaign=Emails&utm_source=sendgrid.com&utm_medium=email
And he's Paypal donations link http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4395895

Very important ! Donations do not guarantee the developer will get the device
There are no guarantees the developer will release anything just because you donated.

Or just pay for it all yourself...that works for me too.

once the s3 gets the premium suite everything should even out nicely with the same mods across multiple devices. the only device that is irritating me is the note10 cuz im new to the whole tablet mode type of stuff phone and phhablet should be quite easy for me aka n2,s3,s4 and n8. and obviously as devices get older they will be retired.. my baseline build for the note8 will be ready soon just got in from work gonna chow and then i will need someone to test flash

Porting the N2 ROM to the N8 wont be hard as he stated already the specs are the same and the only difference between those devices is the resolution
I am sure when the time comes he will be doing a beans ROM for the note 3 but for now all we have is this because the S4 is not even out on verizon
Come on guys lets make this happen $400 more to go or 40 people $10 each :fingers-crossed:

See my post in the development Thread.

Bump, don't forget every dollar counts

I think this should be mentioned in any donation thread in the very first post. I am only saying this to protect gracious donaters and avoid any potential confusion regarding expectations. I've seen many threads like this turn out very ugly (see Galaxy S2 T-989), people were filing lawsuits, police reports, etc.
I'm not trying to call out the OP or developer but it's important that the OP mention:
- Donations do not guarantee the developer will get the device
- There are no guarantees the developer will release anything just because you donated.
Be aware, you're making a donation. Since there are no guidelines laid out in the OP, don't have any expectations if you do decide to invest.
With that being said I hope everyone gets a Note 8.0, it's the best tablet out, imo.

XpLoDWilD's PopAds Kernel for Galaxy Note
Updated 30.4.12
Dev XplodWild got his note back just a few minutes back, expect CM9 experimental builds soon ..
also, awesome custom open source kernel for note goodness !!!
xplodwild twitter update: https://twitter.com/#!/xplodwild
Updated 25.4.12
Xplodwild is receiving his galaxy note this weekend, and will resume dev for the kernel and CM9 soon!
Updated 22.4.12
Team Hacksung Progress : Xplodwild & Entropy
As per Entropy:
Video hwaccel - working
GPS - Working, although GLONASS is either not being used or just reporting as not locked even though it is. Samsung's sat status interface in ICS is mangled, I need to bring gpswrapper over to this device to see what the deal is.
Stylus - Working with apps like Quill that support the standard Android 4.0 stylus API. (Haven't really tested anything else, but I know S-Pen API apps will not work and it's going to stay that way.)
Camera - untested, probably not working, I tried to implement Torch and it did not play well
Updated 21.4.12
stage 1 complete.
stage 2 complete - device ordered. project is ON!!
stage 3 complete - device has arrived already! Dev XplodWild is beginning with his kernel project on the device.
*** News - As xplodwild is waiting for his device to come back after repair... the amazing entropy is progressing with the kernel project based on xplodwilds work ... please read the last few pages of the thread for detailed updates !
Dear Friends,
I was in touch with my dear friend developer @xplodwild who is an integral dev member at TeamHacksung who are developing CM9 for the Galaxy series.
Xplodwild has been developing an open source kernel for the galaxy s2, and he would like to develop an open source kernel for the Galaxy Note as well now. Since the hardware is pretty similar except for certain changes, this can be achieveable quite fast.
So, what are the benefits of an open source kernel for the Galaxy Note?
Click to collapse
- Up-to-date forever kernel : Up-to-date forever kernel : The Kernel shall remain up to date forever, even after samsung or google come out with android 5.0+, and even when kernel will reach version 3.4.0
There is no need to wait for wait or beg samsung to release their sources. After all android and our community is all about sharing and developing with each other.
- Community supported : The project will be open source and community supported, so we can take this is another level really.
- The advantage of having "Updated drivers" - Once we have open source updated kernels and drivers, the developers can continuously work on new roms, ports and developments. and Don't have to wait for ics or other leaks from the company itself. Usually the ports don't have something or the other working (like camera, usb etc.) because the kernel sources or drivers are not available. Once we have this project running soon, we will never see an issue with future android builds or ports etc.
- Ability to do Mods
- Maybe samsung will never release sources or will release very late for each release. We don't need to be dependent on them
How to make this project Happen? Its pretty simple, we all are making it happen
Click to collapse
I would like to Thank "PopAds" and the community for supporting and making this happen. We have in a record time (less than 24 hours) collected enough to buy a note for the development, and now we head towards the 2nd stage.
Thank you!!
How much time this will take to develop?

Since, SGS2 and Note are similar so it should take some days to have it running, then it'll follow the same progress as GS2.
Check out xplodwild's sgs2 thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23462307 , you can see how he is making significant progress everyday and its coming to stable use very soon!
The open source kernels can be used on AOSP / Samsung Roms (with slight mods) / and CM9 based roms, for Android 4.0 +
Lets create our own community based, community driven samsung open source development program.

Cheers mate! Absolutely. I think if we all contribute, we can pave a fantastic way ahead for our phones and make development even more amazing.
Just because sammy never releases its sources so fast, or we have to be dependent on leaks all the time, which always leads to this or that not working...
we can now create ways to make the development for our phones instant and bring in so many possibilities

when we have a kernel drop from samsung for the 3.1 kernel there will be a lot of effort put into the kernel..

I see no evidence that there's any 3.1 kernel source working properly for the sgs2, I understand they are waiting for a source drop the same as us, so why do you think this guy will get a kernel running for us, when he hasn't for them?
I was going to start working on a 3.1 kernel some time ago, but its going to be quicker to wait for the source, as porting kernels up major revisions can take quite a while.

Same as I replied there:
I can tell you myself that I got my 3.0.12 kernel running on my Galaxy S2. So far it boots, touchscreen and charger works (knowing I've been only working a week on it). I even got a 3.3 branch where I got screen working, but MALI drivers are fuct in the RC hence I couldn't get it to boot yet. But it's possible somewhat in the near future.
Knowing that, having a working opensource kernel that people understand will help having up-to-date kernel for the future. Galaxy S II users are more than happy to get it, and they're more than happy to know that they'll be able to get BLN, Voodoo sound and many other stuff and tweaks available largely before Samsung will drop the sources.
ICS leaks being delayed more and more every day, you can't be sure when they will drop the sources.
All in all, all I have to say is that it's booting. Here's an old video where screen works, but no touchscreen yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_hhM411lHc&list=UUBMGKNICl0MqId2JPEPsTug&index=1&feature=plcp
Since, as I said, I got a couple things more. Check that on my github: http://github.com/xplodwild/android_device_samsung_galaxys2

Agree 100%
You are willing to put the effort into this. It may be good, it may not. I am willing to see it through. No software development project I have ever done has been certain. I have spent many hundreds of hours, and sometimes thousands of dollars employing others, on projects that may or may not work. Some paid off, and I keep going on the strength of that.
This is not even a commercial venture! I would not expect someone to buy a Note on the off-chance that the project will gain enough support to get that cash back. If you want a commercial product you pay on results. For an open source 'gift' to the community, I am more than willing to support an valiant effort to give us a kernel we can all benefit from. The Samsung one is just pants.
Just discussing with may very good friend (and son) here, and this type of community-funded effort just was not possible twenty years ago. I love the fact that it is now, and am more than willing to take a small chance on it!
Sorry, rambling a bit, but the bottle of wine is getting low.....

[Q] Developers for Tab 7.7

I was chatting with dizgustipated about the 7.7 and I noted the lack of developers working on this model.
Yes it's new and to be expected but what are peoples thoughts, do you know of a good dev that may be interested ?
What about an agreement to find a good dev such as Diz to donate to for the purposes of obtaining a device for the dev.
Just wish Samsung would look at doing this themselves like the did for the S2.
I know a good dev who may be interested. The question is if the guys here are ready to donate? I know i am,

So if we get for example 20 people who donate 25$ then D.O.C would prolly buy a P6800 and build us a high quality rom !!!
I would donate 50$ for him cause i know the quality from HyperDroid Androidmeda roms!!!
So guys what do you think about that ????
The OP of this thread should make a Vote pool with some devs then we can see how many people are interested to get a custom rom and want to donate few dollars.
If the result of the vote is positive then i would or someone other contact the dev to show him the requests and the people who want donate.
It seems we should start with the question what do we want actually?
I personally want pure ICS, built from source.
it definitely worth if someone can port/develop ICS rom atm(before samsung's "this year" release)
And what about p6810 users?
Enviado desde mi GT-I9100 usando Tapatalk
I would be interested and willing to donate to get a nice rom.
But it would only be worth it to me, if it was based on ICS. We already have a couple of HC roms available, but HC is what it is and you can't get much out of it. This beautiful tablet needs ICS. I'm not a dev but from what I heard, it should be easier now that the GS2 source is out.
The other important thing is that it should support both P6810 and P6800. This should be possible even if the dev only got the P6800. nitroglycerine33 did this with his rom by request and it only took him a few hours without owning the other device.
ready to donate 20/25$ for ICS AOSP on p6810

Well all of us want different things thats clear.
1st in one thing we all should be same "belief" >>> THE ROM BASEMENT <<< and thats >>> ICS <<<
2nd the dev must be a !!!RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER!!! if people donate!!!
3rd then people can for example suggest some RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER and we can start a "VOTE POOL"
4th the result of the vote will show us how many people are interested on wich RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER to make ROM
5th the RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER should be then contacted and asked "are he interested to make a rom for SGT 7.7?" + "what are the requirements?"(maybe nothing or maybe some donates to get the device at first!)
When these things are solved then we can say "DONE!"
Well i am pending as i sad between D.O.C(ICS HyperDroid Androidmeda) or CM9 Based Rom(from a RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER)
If not i will stay on my tweaked Stock Rom till some RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER join this SGT 7.7 Forum
--------------------------------------------------------------
+++UPDATE+++
If all people agree with that instruction and want start a VOTE POOL --> then i would start a THREAD: [POOL] RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER(ICS) ++++ SUGGESTIONS + VOTE ++++
Goals of the thread would be then:
1st gather all RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER(ICS) SUGGESTIONS with reference !!! (I do first example then how it should be look )
2nd start a "VOTE POOL" where all people can vote based on the references of the RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER
3rd get a result that shows us "We can look forward and contact the RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER!!" or "We can stop this ACTION!!"
SO PLEASE INFORM ME - CAUSE I AM SERIOUS WITH THIS !!!!
IF SOMEONE OTHER GOT BETTER IDEAS - THEN OFFER IT!!!
I´LL WAIT UNTILL 01.04.12 - THEN I MAKE A SUMMARY OF THIS
Cheers

You wont miss any apps in Google Play!
If i am wrong correct me ^^
There won't be any functional, "daily driver" ICS ROMs for the 7.7 until Samsung releases (or leaks) an update. Otherwise, you're going to have an incomplete device with non-working cameras and other patchy issues, regardless of how talented the developer is.

We dont talk about a hobby developer wie talk about a RECOGNIZED DEVELOPER.
And thing is that we talking only about it but doing nothing.......
Just let us do the vote to see how many people are interested on this........
Or wait untill some R.D. join this Forum ....

I don't know why you are using ALL CAPS, but the CAMERAS did not work on the ICS port of the Touchpad either. There was also a bunch of professionals working on that, with a github and everything.

POLL
I don't know how to create a poll in this forum ...
Someone could start a new poll asking for donation on this purpose??
For example, the poll question could be:
"are you available to donate money to buy a GT7.7 for an expert developer in order to get an AOSP/CM9 build for this tablet ??"
and the answer options could be:
- none
- 5$
- 10$
- 15$
- 20$
- 25$
then when we reach the right amount we could add an engagement post in the android development section or in SGSII or Note thread ...

I want do a pool 1st for to define the right R.D. then we make in same thread the donation pool for this R.D. so be a bit patient - we dont need confusing 10 threads to make a pool - anyway good idea from you
xenix96 said:
--------------------------------------------------------------
+++UPDATE+++
I´LL WAIT UNTILL 01.04.12 - THEN I MAKE A SUMMARY OF THIS
Cheers

I totally agree.
Must be ICS, HC is not good.
I used Diz as an example, his work is good but everyone has their own ideas on what is best.
Samsung is too hardware focused and scattered with their direction, they will never come out with timely updates or what we really want so this is the only way we will get a device that truly does what we want.

Let's Get Faux123 an Oppo Find 5! [Purchased!!!!]

UPDATE: WE DID IT!!!! We have a phone on the way to faux123!
UPDATE: We will have enough as soon as Oppo fulfills their word and puts their $250 in. I have $252.50 in the PayPal account I set up for the cause. As soon as Oppo sends their $250, that will put us over the amount! Any extra will be given back to charlatan01 because he donated the most. Between XDA and oppo forums, we have some great people with the phone that don't mind helping others and it's great to see!
So far we as Oppo Find 5 owners have a decent variety of Roms including the most important ones like CM, PA and AOSP among others, but we don't have any custom kernels. A custom kernel would allow us more control over the hardware on our phones. CPU undervolting, CPU overclocking and underclocking, taking cores offline for better battery life. Also things like sweep to wake which will wake the device with a swipe across the screen and gamma control to make this gorgeous screen even better . Faux123 is a great kernel dev. His attention to detail is second to none. So....Let's get him an Oppo Find 5! I will throw down $20 towards it. I will try to keep a tally on the total and we'll see if we get what we need!
I'm not sure if these types of threads are allowed, but I want to get a dev a phone, but can't do it by myself. I'm sorry XDA staff if it's not allowed and please lock it up.
GOAL $500 USD
Bounty so far:
housry23--$25USD
Charlatan01--$75USD
osmosizzz--$20USD
Oppo--$250
CostaNova--$15
__________________
Total so far $385 USD
We can also get vouchers for a discount on oppoforums.com. With those we may be able to save $25 or $50. Once the running total gets to $400, I think I'll set things in motion and cover the extra money, and then close the thread and PayPal account once the goal is reached.

I will donate 25 but I will have to do it another way than PayPal because I don't have a PayPal account and wont ever get one again, but if there is another way to get the 25 added I will do so. I know Oppo has vouchers how do you get those?
aaronpoweruser- Thanks man if you can create another kernel all the better, would be very much appreciated.

Oppo said they will put up $250, they are really good to the Oppo community, makes me feel better about getting the phone really. That is some good stuff, someone who knows faux123 on a more personal level needs to let him know about this, and about the Oppo community! You wont find manufactures doing this often or at all, gotta give Oppo their props!

Thanks CostaNova. My question is to everyone here, how do I get the ball rolling on this? I've never started a bounty thread before.Should I start a throw away PayPal account to collect the funds? There's also a site called Pledgie that helps people take donation up to a certain goal. I think they use PayPal as well. Would you guys feel safer if I did it that way? I can assure you, I will not take your money and run, but I'm sure most of you will be skeptical of that. I just looked into Pledgie and I still need a PayPal address and they keep 3% of every donation. I think if you guys can trust me, I should start a new gmail address called Oppo_for_faux and take the PayPal donations there. I can take screenshots of the inbox often and hopefully you guys can trust that I will not screw you over. I am an honest, hard working guy and I really want faux to have this phone.
Hi,
I am here to first say thank you to housry23 and all the users who have contributed. I am also honored that oppo has contributed as well.
Once I get the phone, I will immediately bring this up the standards known to many of my users from other devices.
Thank you very much for the support!
Paul (I approve this message sounds like a political ad!)
OK folks. I have opened a gmail, PayPal and oppostyle.com account for getting faux the phone. Here are screenshots of them. If you want to wait to donate until more people and more money is raised, that's fine. I will update this thread often with a running tally of what's been donated to the account and how close we are to having the total amount.

Seems you are new to this thread, there was a previous bounty at the early release of this note to BeansTown106 , money was raised, Beans got the Note, came out with a root within 30 minutes time, then sold the note.
I doubt that any one here could participate in this again to the same person.

No, not confused, you can simply refer to any P600 user who donated at the beginning & got fooled out .
Here, go through this thread & find out yourself.

Luckily , i am a P601 user
Just an FYI there was a bounty for root and I achieved it and collected bounty never fooled anyone out. I borrowed a friends tablet and used it as a test device I never owned one of my own. Also if ur a p601 user I don't see how this applys to you either way

I never mentioned that this applied to me being a P601 user, i was lucky i didn`t donate in this, i was only stating a fact .
OK, Can we PLEASE get back on topic? Im in for $50, all we need is $300 more. People are on here asking where are the devs? Well Beans is highly respected. We need to help these guys out. It takes ALOT of time. You guys wonder why we have no devs???? You scare them away.
Mods might as well delete this thread. It's obvious no one really wants a new rom. I hear complaining about where are the devs, but now I know why we have limited support. This device will not see much support, because of the members here.

How about a taster. I've worked with both devs for the p600 and am in the preparation of building my own rom. They both provided the best rom they could without the tablet then raised the money really quick and gave us two of the smoothest roms around. Just a thought you have nothing to lose but a tablet and a lot more in donations to gain once people see the work you have put in
The only issue I have with this is what did he do with the initial money we gave him when he got us the first root of the device a few months ago. I know just me I had given him $50 for his contribution to the community, pretty sure he raised enough at that time to go and buy a note if he really wanted one. I don't know just my observation.
I'm pretty sure a bounty comes without an obligation to buy the device. So whatever he did with it is his choice.
Some users are also pissed off the the root method beanstown106 provided tripped the knox counter. I read the initial thread and the bounty was set for root and at that moment the was no Knox condition set for the bounty. So you anyone is allowed to disagree with his actions and I can imagine not being happy with the Knox tripped root but beanstown106 didn't actually do anything wrong. Althoug I can imagine people not being happy with him collecting the bounty first and then asking for donations to buy the device.

Hyperdrive ROM for Note 12.2

Hello to Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 owners.
I am starting this thread to see who is interested in a Hyperdrive ROM.
If you are not familiar, it is a ROM developed by sbreen94 on predominantly Samsung Galaxy devices. Probably one of the best and most popular ROMs out there. Check a few of the Galaxy development threads and you will understand.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4600715
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4600715
Sbreen has been developing for Samsung Galaxy Tablets for a while, but he does not use (or own) a 12.2. However, he said if we can put a Note 12.2 in his hands he would be more than willing to create the ROM. The model that I would look for is the Wifi version (900).
Is there any interest in this? I believe I can find a used tablet for around $350.
At this point I am just wondering if there are any folks who would like to contribute toward the cost of a tablet for the developer. If not, so be it. But if we can come close to that $350 mark, then I'll start looking.
Thanks,
B Nabour
I'm in. Put me down for $40.
Can get a good refurbished P905 for about 380usd..I will also donate
Hyperdrive would be awesome on my tablet. I love it on my note 3.
Delete
No pressure, but no donations, no Hyperdrive
About Hyperdrive ROM for the Note Pro 12.2
Sbreen is willing to develop his Hyperdrive Rom for our device, but he needs a tablet. I can get him a tablet at a discount, but it still will cost in the $250 - 300 range. So far I only see one $40.00 donation, which is good, but not enough to proceed.
Again, if interested in helping fund the purchase of a tablet for Sbreen then please let me know. Also, the tablet that I would purchase would be the Wifi model, as that one seems to be the most popular varient.
No pressure - I just wanted to give an update.
Thanks,
Barb
Is there somewhere online you could set up a page to allow people to make actual donations & see how much has been & needs yet to be raised? Something kickstarterish. I think that would get more responses & avoid the issue of broken promises upon your attempt to collect on them. What are kickstarter's fees like? Once such a page is set up you can then get readers to attempt to promote the url as well as make a donation.
BTW Put me down for $20.
[Edit] Kickstarter style rewards could work quite well if the dev is willing to allow some minimal aspects to be dictated to some extent by the donors. Even just a mention in the credits. Is the dev reading this thread?
Good idea, but I don't have extra time to research kickstarter. I am pretty busy with my day job -- all I was hoping to do was provide a paypal account and collect donations.
Also, responding to your other question, I am not sure if Scott Breen is monitoring this thread. Here is a little history:
I have "worked' with Scott in the past -- several months ago he had agreed to develop Hyperdrive for the Note 10.1, and we were able to get him that tablet, and he is still developing. I believe he just uploaded a new ROM version recently. I used Hyperdrive on my Note 3 smartphone, and then on the Note 10.1 (which I don't even use anymore because I love this 12.2 much.)
At any rate, I contacted him a week or so ago and asked if he might be willing to do the same for the 12.2 (which I now use exclusively.) His response was that he will be happy to do so if Ican find him a test tablet. I was just thinking if people who use the 12.2 would like Hyperdrive then they would contribute $20-40 and we could get going. But the response has been slow, so I suspect the interest is just not there.
If someone else would like to take over collecting funds that would be great.
Barb
Understood. Shame though. A few ppl did say they'd donate above, they just didn't specify an amount. Could those ppl post their offers? I guess you'd only need ten to twenty or so & if you get close maybe a few will up their existing offer. Would mentioning this thread in other subforums here be allowed & get anymore attention? Any mods reading?
Would this only be for the Regular NON-Verizon N12.2? I have the Verizon variant with Root, and if something like this could be done, I'd gladly help by donating.
Yes i know about this thread and would be happy to build you guys a killer rom for your device. Posting your pledges of what you feel is reasonable in the thread is great.
Thanks for your support and lets get it rocking in here :good:
I am interested. And I wanted to donate $20.
20 Bucks from me.
Recap of donations
Hi guys,
To date it looks like we have $80 in pledges
fokus $20
muzzy996 $40.00
cauli $20.00
almost half way there. I will keep tracking and keep everyone updated. Please help spread the word -- it would be so nice to have Hyperdrive running these tablets!
Thanks again,
Barb
PS - In case anyone wonders, I am not donating because my donation will be in the acquiring of the tablet and postage to get it to developer. That will run about $25.
I'll throw in $20. This POS needs a light rom. My G3 just started to perform like my G2 now that it has Liquid on it. Hyperdrive will do the same for das boot
put me $10...
I would like to ask, if he will add Note 4 spen functions to this tablet.. which is most important case for me.. NOTE4 aircommand,, not Note3
