How do you set up notification folder on SD card? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have a Media folder on the SD card that has Audio folder and alarms notifications and ringtones in it. s4 is not picking up on these ... It used to always work for me on older phones.
Any idea how to get them to work?
Thanks!

I put my Alarms, Notifications, and Ringtones folders in the root of the internal storage and the system picked them up just fine (even without a reboot like some of my old devices needed).
To duplicate your setup I just created a media folder on my external SD card and added sounds into a Notifications folder and the phone picked it up right away.

Is there a way to add notification ringtones?

I've been making ringtones ever since I had my first blackberry, but I want to change notification ringers.
Unfortunately, the cyanogen build only has one notification build and I need at least 3 I prefer separate sounds for sms, email and system.
p.s. I don't know how to use ADB.
Just make a directory on your sd card named media, make one in there called audio, and then you can make ringtones - alarms- and notifications, so it would be like this
/sdcard/media/audio/alarms
/sdcard/media/audio/notifications
/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
put your audio in those, there is a link to the stock audio resources in Cyanogen's thread.
Create a folder in your SD card named "media",
inside media make a folder "audio",
inside audio make a folder for "alarms" "music" "notification" and "ringtones"
just put your tones and music and the following folders and you should be set.
Hope this helps!
Oh sweet, I thought notifications were locked down or something, this is awesome news. Thanks
Or just use ringdroid and it will do everything for you.

Ringtones on SD card?

Am I missing something or is it not possible to use ringtones on your SD card? I checked the HTC site for this and didn't see anything about this.

Try using ringdroid and see where it stores all it's mp3's on your sd card. Then that should be the folder you have to put all your mp3's into in order for them to be selectable.
You just need to create folders. Make folders called ringtones, alarms, notifications and place the sound files that you wish to use in it's folder (i.e. for a ring tone, place an mp3 in the ringtone folder).
Thanks so much for the help, worked like a charm (ringtones folder).

Add New Notification Sounds to My Incredible?

Like my new Incredible compared to my BB Storm, but I'm missing a few things.
While I can add MP3's as ring tones, I can't figure out
Create two folders on your SD card. One named ringtones and another named notifications (for text sounds). Once you copy files to those folders they will show up in the list.

For whatever reason this never would work for me. So what I did was create a folder on the root of my SD called media. Inside media created folders called ringtones and notifications. I then converted the MP3 or whatever format the media was in to M4A using the latest beta of Audacity (awesome app). Tossed the converted media into the appropriate folder, and voila, I can has sounds.
This may seem a little convoluted to some people, but it works for me.
download ringdroid from the market, allows you to pick the portion of the mp3 you want, and you can set it as alarm, notification, or ringer

Actually, there should be three folders, and they should all be on the root of the SD card. The two you mentioned, plus one called alarms. These three folders will let the various sounds you load only show for the correct applications.
For instance, put a sound called alarm1 in the alarms folder and it will only be selectable as a alarm for various clock apps. However, put the same sound in notifications instead, and it will only be available to apps that use a notification alert, like calendars.
The other advantage to using these three folders is that it keeps the sounds from showing up in media player apps. I can't tell you how annoying it was to have my music playing randomly and then an alarm sound would play. Then I'm checking my phone to see what it is trying to remind me about only to discover that darned thing played in my media rotation.

Are the sounds showing up in the "songs" your media player lists?
I would recommend creating these folders under /emmc in place of /sdcard that way if the SD Card is removed your custom ring-tones/notifications will still work....
here is the folder structure that I am using:
/emmc/Media/Audio/Alarms
/emmc/Media/Audio/Notifications
/emmc/Media/Audio/Ringtones
Mixzing media player, if you use that, also allows you to set mp3's as ringtones.

I like this idea.....
Is there anything out there I can use to view these "system" folders on my PC? When I look at the phone on my computer I only see a couple folders.
I just use zedge app and let it do all the work.

What I have noticed it that sound files in any of those 3 folders won't show up in my music player whether they are on the phone or the sdcard. If you put a sound file in the media folder it will show up, but nothing in the 3 sub folders will.
I haven't tried putting them anywhere else but I think it's safe to assume that folders named Alarms, Notifications, and Ringtones are ignored.
gadget!

[Q] Quick Question

Is there anyway to keep ringtones and other mp3 files out of the music app besides renaming a folder with a "." in front of it?
Place a .nomedia file in the folder containing audio/video files you want to keep the system from seeing. This will, however, prevent you from selecting those files from your ringtones settings.

Thats what I want to avoid, I just want to keep my ringtones out of my music but I still want my ringtones. Before, on my G1 (Cyanogen), I could put my music ringtones in an "audio" folder and that would keep them out but that doesn't work now.
That sux. The same problem existed on the Vibrant. Not sure which system folder preinstalled ringtones are kept in, but if it's not in the protected part of NAND you could temp root and push the files to internal.
I've heard you need to have a Notifications and Ringtones folders at the *root* of the SD card.

I tried that and i didnt work. I also tried getting root and placing the files into the media folder on root and that didnt work either. Anyone have any other ideas?
I purchased a set of ringtones on my previous device that were installed in the SD cards with the following path on the card:
audio/media/ringtones/
audio/media/notifications/
audio/media/alarms/
Probably won't work, but worth a try.

I believe you have media and audio backwards in those directory trees. That's how mine are anyway. Unfortunately a quick check shows that media room sees every sound file in there. So I hate to burst your bubble but, you're right, it won't help with this.

Well, that's the path installed by the RCP Ringtones in Market. And, on the Vibrant, at least, they didn't appear in the Music app, and I could select them as ringtones.
That's cool. I think some people have one directory with no subs and android still sees them. I know they can be set up a multitude of ways.
My MyGlacier 4G MINE!!!

my ringtones change themselves

Samsung Galaxy S I9100
I have always had assigned its own ringtones for certain contacts or groups, but have the problem on my Samsung Galaxy S ii i9100 that they disappear and all of a sudden turn "stand ringtone" also I define for receiving SMS can suddenly change.
Others with the problem and possible. a solution.
With 4 cell phones in the house is nice to hear the difference
Hi,
maybe this helps:
Create a folder 'media' on your INTERNAL SD Card
Create a folder 'audio' in the folder media
Create the folders 'ringtones', 'notifications' and 'alarms' in the folder audio
Put the MP3s or whatever in the folder you like
Choose the tone
Ready
Worked fine for me
Bye

I have already. My ringtones are already on the external memory card, but I go under my contacts, and select one of these ringtones, then deletes phone them at a time and bring them all back to default ring tone. That is what is my problem.
As I said: They should be on the INTERNAL card...

I've got a similar problem.
My ringtones used to work fine, but now I can only use the standard ones for some reason. I've put my own mp3 ringtone into both /sdcard/ringtones (which used to work), and also in /sdcard/media/ringtones, but it no longer shows up on the list of ringtones to select when I go into settings/sound/phone ringtone.
Anyone else got this or know how to fix it?
Thanks.

Thanks for that - it worked. I thought the "ringtones" folder had to be on the internal SD card. Maybe there's some setting somewhere I don't know about that tells it whether too look on the internal or external card.

I'm a complete android noob, as S2 is my first android device. I had to google info about setting custom mp3 ringtones and everybody said the folder must be on the internal sd. I already had the folders named like that in my HTC Touch HD sd card and surprise... when i put the sd card in the S2 i could set the ringtones. So the folders can be on external sd card too. Doubt the OS has a default option of looking on internal or external sd. It probably searches those folders anywhere, be it internal or external.

Well the strange thing is it used to work with a "ringtones" folder on the internal SD card. Then it stopped working for no reason, but now works with the same folder and mp3 on the external SD card.
Anyway I don't really mind now that I've got my custom ringtone back.
