If I buy a T-Mobile S4 would it work on at&t LTE ? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

After unlocking it of course.
I was also wondering the same regarding the HTC One. This is due to the fact that it's cheaper to buy it outright at T-mobile and unlocking them in order to be able to use it with my at&t line

Would be best to get the ATT Version.....

Yes, if you unlock the T-Mobile phone you can use an AT&T sim card and vice versa. The only problem would be that you couldn't get AT&T's warranty support option. It's where you can bring your phone into your local center if you have problems within the first year with your phone with or without purchasing an actual warranty. Helped me big time with the GS2, my power button wasn't working. They replaced it for free that day, and I left with a brand new (probably refurbished) GS2.

Questions on selling a phone

I think I'm going to pony up a few hundy to get an iphone since I like its browser capabilities and am tired of my phone's extra bulk.
Questions are (a) what's the best place to sell it other than ebay ? (b) I guess I must keep the sim but what does the buyer do to get another one ? (c) does ne1 know if I can just activate an iphone with an existing account ?
Gotta say I'll miss the APmemo's free-form stylus input which I use quite a bit.
Thanks a bunch

a) No idea.
b) They can do anything they want. Either pay-as-you-go or contract. HOWEVER, if it is not SIM Unlocked (ie you bought it from a phone provider such as T-Mobile and they subsidised the price of the phone and locked it to only accept SIM cards for their network) they will require a SIM from the same provider you bought it from UNLESS you (or they) unlock it.
Note this doesn't apply to phones which are supplied unlocked such as phones from Dopod and HTC.
For details on how to unlock a Hermes, see the page on the wiki here
c) No idea, but I would guess it would be SIM locked, probably to AT&T, so as long as you have an account with AT&T you can use it.
This method of unlocking an iPhone made me chuckle, although I don't know enough about the iPhone to be capable of saying whether its worth it.
Thanks but mine is already unlocked.
I guess I'll need to talk to ATT about transfering the plan.

Why are we talking about an iPhone in this forum?
I thought you need the iPhone plan to use the iPhone with AT&T, not your existing plan.
I have no idea of where you live but I use Craigslist to sell all of my phones.
If you are selling your phone, just take out the SIM, they should have their own. If they don't they can just go to the store and get one.

Bell Motorola Atrix on Rogers/FIDO

I thought I started this thread but it seems to have disappeared ? Anyway thought I'd start it back up since there are many of us in Canada will likely be going this route. Any quirks between carrier settings or special settings needed for this to work fairly flawlessly ?
Only thing you need is to add proper apn settings to make it work on any other carrier, that and the phone has to be unlocked.
im waiting this too lol for mexico the thing its when will be unlocked!!!i cant wait lol
Ahhh yess... the good old "locked" phone scenario. I guess that would be same issue with AT&T model.
APN settings shouldn't be an issue for data. I know the exact one to use for FIDO but MMS might still be an issue?

You have to get a special code either from bell, a store that unlocks phones etc. Bell will usually give it to you after you bought for a month while at the store the code is like $10. (Each phone has a different code) Then you just input the code (each phone has a different method but it's very easy.)

Wait, so if I bought it from Bell, I'd have to wait a month before they'd give it to me? There's no way I just couldn't buy it outright from them?

the unlock code let you use any sim in the atrix from any carrier in the world (of course that are bands compatible) so many people (like me) want the unlock code so i can buy it from at&t and then use the unlcok code to use it in my country that have the same bands

No, I know. He said that Bell would give me the unlock code so I could use it on Rogers, but I'd have to wait a month after I bought it. I was asking if there was any way I could just buy the unlock code from Bell right away.
Yes that is something I mentioned in the previous thread that I started (now gone). I mentioned that it is very likely Bell would keep the phone for their own customers (existing or new sign up), so they may not sell you the phone at all without a contract with them. Unlock codes can be had on the internet for $25 or less, but will Bell sell the phone with no contract. Let`s see what happens.
Bell selling you the phone off contract is ENTIRELY based off of which person you talk to. They're all allowed to do it, but it's looked down on since they make less money if you do it that way.
the other thing that you may have to look into is ATT probably has tethering disabled. I for one want to use this on Telus. it'll have to be rooted (I assume) to be able to use this feature. Plus all of att's bloatware which I'd want to get rid of as well (again rooting will do the trick)
Odd's are Bell won't be the only ones selling it; re-sellers will probably have it off contract as well (Tbooth, bestbuy.ca maybe walmart) but I was surprised this morning when I looked at bestbuy US and Amazon, they are selling it for 599, so off contract at bestbuy.ca and Tbooth they'll probably have it for 699/799 (just my guess though)
well it looks like the bloatware is just a matter of uninstalling it, very glad its not part of the ROM

You are right, I got this confirmed by a Cell Phone sales representative.
I visited a Bell Store and a The Source and both told me that I can buy the Atrix full price, but I have to activate it with Bell (35$) + Pay for the first month (50$).
The reason is that if they sell only the phone, they get only 1$ from bell.
If they sell a plan they get 5$ !
My advise, shop around until you find someone that is not that cheap, or just offer him/her the 5 bucks
i typed in the apn settings on my phone the internet only works on the broswer all the apps dont get 3g
but when i switch to wifi everything works :S
weird anyone want to help a newwwwwwwwwebee iphone user?
I have a Bell Atrix on Telus.
cellunlock.net is the cheapest and i've used them for 5 phones so far. 14.99 for any Moto phone, use android50 coupon code for 50% off (if it still works)
The folks instore didn't know anything about unlocking, Telus CSR told me it was 50$ to unlock the desire before i sold it, i was like EFF THAT!
I bought the phone for 599$ but I sold my Desire for 250 and my Milestone for 250$, 100$ to upgrade wasn't bad.
Entered APN and everything is dandy.
rogers/fido users
fido and rogers users may run in to an issue with their call display/name display feature.
when you receive calls they will show up as "payphone" on your display and won't show the name or number of the person that is calling.
to fix this its simply a matter of calling rogers and asking them to "exclude" (very important to say exclude because they cannot remove just the name display but they CAN exclude it. found that out after 4 different calls between tech support and customer care). once the name display is excluded you can now see the numbers of the caller, and if they are already in your phone you will see their name as well.

[Q] Where to get cheap SIM card so I can unlock phone????

Hi,
I am not technically inclined. I need to get my Samsung Galaxy SGHI1337 unlocked.
I am ready to pay for the unlocking service. But all my friends and families are on AT&T network like I am.
Where can I get a non-AT&T SIM card cheap to get my phone unlocked via cellunlocker.net? I only have access to an old, never-activated AT&T SIM card.
I know cellunlocker gives you 3 options, but I heard inserting a non-AT&T SIM card is the most successful route.
Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Friend, co-worker / friend, classmate.
go to a store and tell them you want to unlock it because your contract is up in a couple months and you want to make sure you can use their service, they prob have one in the store thats even activated for testing purposes.
just a few thoughts off top of my head.
Thanks!

But thanks for the idea of going to a store instead!! I have not even thought of that one.

I called TMobile. They said they sell a SIM card for $10.00 at the store. After that, I will need to activate the service at the store.
The problem is I am fine with AT&T since I get special discount through relatives working for AT&T. I just want to get phone unlocked so I can take it with me to Europe.
But does the SIM have to be activated for the unlocking purpose? If not, I can just buy a TMobile SIM and unlock, right?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Go to a mall or T-mobile kiosk and get a $10 prepaid sim. They should activate it where you buy it.
Yeah like ^^he said^^, I was more thinking walk into a place, a kiosk is a good idea too, when they see you face to face and you deal with a "person" they do things a bit different than give the "company response" over the phone.
Not sure of where you live, but I heard they sell Straight Talk sims at Walmart now...don't know myself. but I think they are like $7.
Also maybe an easier time walking into a MVNO, like Boost or Metro PCS or one of those where you can Bring Your Own Phone and just tell them you want to unlock it and see if it will work with their service before your contract is up. But you have better luck going in and standing in front of the person IMO.
Good Luck.
I stopped at a T-Mobile store and said I was looking to change to them from AT&T and they gave me a sim to unlock the phones with. I guess it depends on who you talk to.

Nah you shouldn't need to activate it. Just pop it in and it should recognize that it's a SIM that isn't supported (tmo based) by the network your locked to (att) and it should ask for the unlock code and you can proceed with whatever unlocking procedure your using.
I've done this on a gs1, Infuse, and a gs3. For selling purposes. An unlocked device is alot easier to sell, that's why I did it. Haven't done it to my gs4... Yet. But it should work just the same.

Straight talk has like a kit and they send you the sim cards from the various carriers, my mom recently tried to switch from at&t on her iphone (crapple) to straight talk because it would be cheaper, then the week before she was going to cancel her at&t plan, her at&t work discount went from 19% to 50% off her bill so... but yeah came with a sim kit and all, just not the unlock code

Once your contact is up they might just give it to you if you ask. Those kits would never coming to unlock code. The first reason each code is different for each device. Second I'm sure they would have a lawsuit on their hands if they did. You can always just tell them you're going out of the country and need the unlock code to use the cell phone over there.
but in the end it's so much more fun in hacking to get to device unlocked on your own. But again that's my own opinion.
99 cents for several different ones at http://pickyoursim.com/
I had Verizon at one point and I wanted a new sim card so I just went to the closest Verizon retail store and asked for another one. They asked me why and I told them that I was having network problems so they gave me a free one.

[Q] Could Carrier block an Unlocked device ? LG G2 from T-mobile

I just traded my Nexus 4 plus cash with a T-mobile LG G2 from someone on Craiglist. I checked IMEI on swappa.com and it is clean.
The owner told me he got the g2 from an 2 year upgrade under T-mobile. And now he is using StraightTalk on T-mobile network,
After the trade, I sim unlocked the G2 and currently using it on AT&T (prepaid plan).
My question is that is there any chance that the guy called T-mobile and has t-mobile black-list my G2? The G2 is all doing good right now but I am a liitle worried.
Could T-mobile black-list an Unlocked G2?
I do have the text and email proof of our transaction. So if worst of worst my G2 get blacklist, could I show them to T-mobile to prove my ownership?
Thank you for any opinion~~

At this point it is probably not working on T-Mobile if he didn't meet his 2 year commitment I bought one on E-Bay which was a T-Mobile and I unlocked sim and used it on ATT with no problems and IMEI showed as good when I checked but still wouldn't work on T-Mobile. So I got with T-Mobile and they said IMEI showed good but phone was on a two year contract and individual wasn't suppose to sell it until after two year commitment so not working on T-Mobile. Also there is discussion of blacklisting across carriers if they do that won't work on any of them. Just be advised of that in case it goes dead on ATT. As of now I try to buy brand new if I can because I got burnt with my purchase because I am now on T-Mobile and can't use the phone I bought had to buy another one out right because I don't like contracts

The guy told me he got the phone on Dec 2013, so I guess he did not meet his new 2 year contract( I don't know for sure).
Chance is that the phone could still be blacklist by T-mobile even it is unlocked?
I have done some research, and still could not make sure about carrier black-list unlocked phones.
Last time I call AT&T, they told me once the phone is unlocked, it would be wipe off their database so nobody could block unlocked phones.
I am not sure whether T-mobile has the same rule.

I unlocked my xperia z which was on T-mobile at the time and like I said it was not blacklisted but t-mobile would not let me use it on there network because it was set up originally on 2 year contract and commitiment was not completed. Maybe ATT will allow you to use it but T-Mobile will not because they block the my IMEI. The only way to know for sure is try a T-Mobile sim. Mine gave a error code which I'm not sure what that was since it has been 6 months ago which basically like I said earlier would not let me use on T-Mobile. The IMEI is specifically for T-Mobile that is why you can't use on there network.

I see what you mean. To sum up, even it is a unlocked clean imei phone from T-mobile, there is chance that it could not be used on T-mobile because the phone might still be under someone else's contract.
The seller messaged me today about setting up APN on the Nexus 4 I trade to him. At least he seems like a honest person.
I really like the G2 ! LG has made a lot of underated phones, the Optimus G, the G pro, and the G2!
Just bought a $30 phone as backup, if anything goes wrong( I hope not...),,,I would have a phone to use.
BTW, TMO 4.4.2 KK could not be rooted yet.. Seems like I have to stay stock for a while

Actually the 4.4.2 can be rooted just can't put a custom recovery on it. If you look in the development section you will see that can flash back to 4.2.2 and then root and put recovery on it of a 4.4.2 custom rom. So is possible just have to follow instructions given. I'm using a G flex rom but it is a 4.2.2 version but believe me there are many 4.4.2 roms available.
You can always call T-Mobile, give them the IMEI and ask if the phone is paid off.

1. T-Mobile stopped doing contracts so that is out the window.
2. The risk you take is he had the device on EIP (installment plans). Of he stops paying the device will get blocked and the only way to unblock would be for the original owner to pay it off and that's it.
3. If he really wanted to, he could report the phone stolen. Even with documents it would take some serious work to get it unblocked.

I call T-mobile just now, they would only check the IMEI only if I open a new service ( which I am not gonna to do. I would stay on AT&T for now).
But the representative I talkd to told me that as long as I plug in a new T-mobile sim card, the phone would be transferred to the new sim account and has nothing to do with the old one.
That recall me same thing about AT&T, they just said as long as a new sim in put in the phone, the phone would be released from its original account.

Unlocking T-Mobile locked phones, bought directly from Samsung

Hello,
I recently saw the (samsung.com) Buy One Get One (/us/mobile/phones/t-mobile-free-galaxy-s8-promotion) deal on the Samsung S8. I am really interested. The deal applies on buying the T-Mobile variants directly from samsung.com. (Not through T-Mobile)
However, I am from India, and am currently travelling to the US. I would like to buy both the phones and get them unlocked later so that I can use them back in India. I do not mind buying/activating a new T-Mobile line on one of the phones as long as I can SIM unlock the phone later for use with other SIMs. From what I read, T-Mobile does not have these phones registered in their database and it is difficult to get them to unlock the phone for me. What usually ends up happening is that Samsung people redirect to T-Mobile, who in turn redirect back to Samsung. Has anybody had any success?
Here are a couple of reddit threads dealing with the same matter (can't post links yet, sorry) :
/r/tmobile/comments/68w6ow/samsungcom_tmobile_s8_sim_unlock/
/r/tmobile/comments/6crs6v/unlocking_samsung_galaxy_purchased_from_samsungcom/
/r/GalaxyS8/comments/67a942/how_to_get_sim_unlock_code_for_phones_purchased/
Please let me know if this is possible, and how it can be done.
I have T-mo phone bought and paid in full direct from Samsung and I can confirm this nonsense, which should be totally illegal: T-mo has no record of my phone's IMEI and Samsung can't unlock the phone without T-mo. You could try paid services, but I have no idea how well and if they even work. You could also wait for root and probably unlock then, but it's risky. So far I have not been able to resolve this issue.

That's sad to hear. I would have loved to get the phone using this offer. From what I gathered from the reddit threads, you basically have to grind down on customer support (either Samsung or T-Mobile) to get it unlocked from their side.
