[Q] Wasn't there a whole lot more hype for the SIII? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Is everyone still in contract from the SIII or something? I remember the forums blowing up with discussion of when the SIII was going to be released, all the retailers carrying it and when they picked up their pre-orders, etc etc.... What's up, XDA, are we all asleep at the wheel here or is this phone just not going to be a success like the SIII was? I hate seeing a good device not being appreciated, but man, I'm hearing crickets chirping over here!
Hopefully when it releases, we'll have a ton of development just like there was with the SIII, but we're not even seeing root yet for the I337 - we had root a week before the I747 was released, and I rooted that sucker the day I got it home, launch day! I'm telling you, it's almost not worth having if we can't root it or there won't be anyone theming the S4.....

You may be right about the contract thing. If most people picked up the S3 in June (I believe), they wouldn't be eligible for upgrade yet. I'm feeling the same as you are about the hype but it will pick up once the phone is out and available. The other thing is that many consider this a Apple style "S" iteration of the phone. Software tweaks mostly so if you recently put down for the S3 and/or have the option of getting the S3 at a very low price, more people might lean that way. Specially if you consider how much development there is already on S3.

Yeah, my upgrade isn't available since I used it on the SIII, but I'm stealing one from another account I manage and the authorized user on, so you're right, but isn't it a good thing that Samsung is coming up with new tech sooner than later? I just hate that this is being looked at a negative thing, to update the phones faster than once a year....
God, isn't that the worst thing possible, for the S4 / SIII to be compared to the iThing 4S / 4? I don't see the S4 being just a slight upgrade to the SIII, I think there's a lot of redeeming features that made me want to upgrade.... I see your point and have heard the same thing about the S model update, but I'm happy that I'm moving up from the SIII, there's a lot left to be desired on the SIII
Oh well, #firstworldproblems, haha

I think my upgrade comes comparatively early, since I'm on an ancient, grandfathered, 18-month upgrade cycle per two-year contract... One of my other lines got an S3 at launch, but they are not eligible to upgrade to the S4 yet.
Meanwhile, I'll be happily burning my upgrade this June.

I agree, there doesn't seem to be as much hype this time around. But I know a lot of people jumped on the S3 and it could be a contract thing. That's what happened to me. But I had decided back then that when the time came (and that time is now) I'll be adding an additional line. That way I can get the S4 (for contract price) and then next year when my S3 is up, I can upgrade to the S5. It basically costs around $10/mo for the ability to trade up each year.

That's quite a bit of money to spend just to get a new phone every year, but I hate it when people tell me how to spend my money, so I'm not gonna do that to you - I just manage a bunch of accounts since no one knows a damn thing about phones, and switch out upgrades so I can always get a new phone when they're available, I have two upgrades to use right now if I wanted to, but I like saving one in case of an emergency.... you know, someone drops their phone and doesn't want to pay the full $600+ for a replacement!
I just saw this come through on Twitter:
Overwhelming Demand for the Galaxy S4 Causing Inventory Issues with Samsung
pretty interesting read, nothing special, but at least it isn't this disaster I'm over here thinking it is.... there were only TWO pre-orders at my local BBY! The girls there told me that a lot of people have come in asking about it, and when prompted to make a pre-order for only $50 that they can use later on something else if they don't end up going with the S4, they all declined - cheap bastards!! Here I go again shopping out of my own wallet.....

Ive said since day 1 i dont see alot of hype for the s4. I do think development might be better on the international models.

Less hype hopefully means more available on launch day. I just tried the htc one and didnt like it, didnt wow me at all. I was going to stick with my nexus 4 until the nexus 5 but then read google will soon anounce the new nexus 4 with different radios and no signs of a nexus 5 so I believe for now s4 will do.

Yep definitely not as much hype. I bought my S3 off contract, and now the S4 I am getting on contract. Just gonna walk into the store on the 27th and pick it up, seriously doubt they will be sold out, or even a line or anything close.
Hopefully its not like the Note 1 launch. I came in day 1 of release and they were like what is a Note? We haven't heard of it.

Hah, I hope not, but by now, if they don't know what the 4th iteration of the Galaxy line is, they probably shouldn't work in a mobile department.....
Good luck finding one on launch day, but if you do, post your results and let us know how many your store had in stock - I don't think stores are getting tons of them, but not many people pre-ordered, so you might be right!

Eh I actually changed my mind about going to the store. I'll just order it through the phone. I seem to be pretty busy this weekend and I am in no rush to get this one. Its prtty much same thing as my s3!

You have brought back multiple threads that were dead for at least 2 to 4 months. Regardless of your input, it is necroposting.
Your post that brought this back had no valid information. You have contributed nothing. Congratulations on outing yourself.

His post was completely unnecessary. It was not asking a question, it was not contributing any new found or valid information, it was completely pointless.
Yes, use the search function for finding information. Doesn't mean one needs to post on a old dead thread. When we say "don't necro" we mean don't bring back anything that is a couple months old. When we say don't make a new thread involving something that has been said, we mean don't post a new thread that is answered in any of the stickies or within the first few pages. The other day, there were 5 posts on the first page with people asking if they could put a custom recovery on MF3 and 5 more about people bricking by trying to put one on MF3. Do you understand?

Is the Atrix that Bad?

This is the phone I was waiting to get. Received good reviews at majority of sites.
But reading about all the nightmares on every forums, all the bugs, everyone returning/exchanging it,etc.
I played with one at store for over an hour and it seemed very quick with not too many problems. I liked but its not enough time to see all the problems.
The Bell store here is selling it for $0 now on a contract. That's how desperate they are to get rid of it.
So in 10 days the price was already chopped twice.
Am I really going to have to go thru 5 units to find a decent working one?
I can live with a locked bootloader for now but everyday a new issue seems to be coming up.
It seems like this phone is a year away from being done/updated.
What are the main problems/defects I should check on before exchanging for another to make sure I'm not stuck with a crappy model.
Thanks.
Wished Motorola would get their heads out their asses with all their products.
Come out with something good then they do everything they can to **** it up somehow. You can tell them you'll sell millions of their crappy stock and they still would not unlock the bootloader. That's how seriously stupid they are.
btw, I'm actually a Motorola shareholder. Thankfully Motorola Solutions is not a complete loser.
I came from a captivate and Nexus one. I dont have any glaring issues - theres ALWAYS *****ing for every phone whenever its released. Take everything you read on forums with a grain of salt.
I've never had one issue with mine. People just like to ***** no matter how great the device is.

I have had ZERO problems with my phone out of the box. Same goes for 2 other people I know personally.
One just doesn't like Blur.
My brother used it as his primary computer since he got it and can't stop extolling the virtues of Webtop.
He's an IT professional and coordinated a 13+ site migration from one network to another ALL from the Laptop dock.
Some of the sites he was at didn't have wifi so he was using webtop over AT&T for his ONLY connection.
Said he spent more time trouble shooting his laptop the one day he forgot the charger for the Laptop Dock then he spent troubleshooting the phone or laptop dock for the entire 2 weeks.
If citrix is a big part of your life this phone could revolutionize your life.
No problems here. I haven't experienced any bugs except for the touch screen wigging out after a 12 second hold in one place.
It is a little disconcerting that Bell has decided to drop the price only a few weeks into launch. I hope the community stays strong because I intend on keeping it.
Ditto for me -- I'm using an unlocked AT&T version on Rogers network in Canada --- absolutely LOVE the phone. Came from a Galaxy-S, Captivate, and iPhone 4 before that.
This is the best one by far, and the best android implementation so far for me.
$0 on contract!?! holy ****. just get it!

andy2na and captaincanada84 are right, some people will ***** just to *****. With that said, I have done my fair share of "complaining" but it's based on my opinion. You really can't go to a forum and ask people if you should buy something because you are going to get both sides of the fence. Just browse the forum and pay attention to what people are praising about and what people are complaining about and try to decide from that. It's really going to come down to YOUR preference.
I love my atrix.
My only problem is the facebook contact sync because of moto blur, I am having some issues with it not updating my contacts pictures.
Battery life is awesome I am sometimes in disbelief how long the battery lasts 1 day + with everything on and actually using the phone which is a must..
My phone doesn't randomly reboot I don't know about other people.
As for the locked bootloader I'm not in a rush. I have launcher pro and root so thats all I need.
Previous phones. G1, Nexus one, Dell Streak.
Dude what Bell store is that? It's still $69.95 on the Bell site.
You just need to remember that nobody goes to a forum to state that everything is working perfectly, they only post when they have a problem. So, you have to keep that in mind.
I've been running my Atrix since it was first released and it's been very stable. My only issue is it seems to not like my AT&T microcell too much. I get dropped connections when on my microcell. Works fine eveywhere else. It's a huge improvement over my Nexus 1.
Also think about how many people are using the phone that don't read forums... So far I am extremely happy with this phone. I usually hate upgrading because there is always another phone better right around the corner, but you'll find yourself waiting forever in that case. My only dislike is the facebook integration in blur breaking contact syncing.

Yes, please tell. I know a lot of people looking for an Atrix right now and would kill for that. If I weren't on a great retention rate plan with Rogers I'd get that in a heartbeat.
Thanks for replies everyone.
I think a lot of the negativity is people trying to trash a new device or envy. Plus it gets popular to trash any locked phone these days.
I've been waiting to get this phone since it was announced. The 4" screen seems perfect in size. Had no problem looking at the pentile graphics.
Its just scary to see the price drop so fast, it rarely happens here in Canada unless something is a super flop like the Samsung Tab, idk.
But I'm mostly going to get it in a few days and hopefully there's a good future with it and developers on here. Always learn something new. Some people are just to lazy to play around with the phone to get the max out of it.
How is the overheating? It seemed rather warm at the store.

Makes me think twice when stores do that compared to whinny kids on forums because money talks and its obviously not selling that well.

Yea I asked Bell why the price drop to $69.95 and they said "because we like to give our customers a discount", which is total BS, but it's not like they're going to flat out tell me the device is a flop.
If you want to pick it up I would suggest getting it soon because according to the Bell reps I talked to the sale ends on March 31st.

Patience All devices are judged pretty harshly at the beginning.. You just got to reap from the benefits with a slashed price!
I'm completely happy with mine- it's fast, the screen is beautiful and it's got more internal storage than I need. If you're not a fan of motoblur, gingerblur will make you happy!
Go ahead and take the plunge.

Its hard to believe they'll put it back to the original price after the "sale" with all the new other smartphones coming but who knows.
More worried about Bell taking forever with updates. This with 2.3 and then 2.4 will just scream.
i love this phone to death.
best phone i have ever had.
The ability to turn into a PC is the biggest plus. This phone has so much potential. Honestly what motorola does with the bootloader and such sucks, but so long as we can at least root/sideload, personally, I am completely fine with that.
Motorola also stated that every one of their phones in the future will have webtop. So I will be sticking with motorola android phones (specially once Tegra 3D comes out) for a while until a better company has a similar PC like feature embedded on the phone. Can't go wrong with the powerful atrix! Emulators and games run SO smooth... love it.

[Q] Wait for AT&T or buy Unlocked?

I wanted to know if I should buy the unit unlocked now or wait till it comes out in America with AT&T?
If I wait for the AT&T version, though, it will likely come barraged with bloatware and features will be locked like tethering. I believe that rooting the Note will allow tethering and removal of the bloatware but I'm not sure. I am eligible for the 2 year discount if I get the Note with AT&T but how long will I have to wait?
I currently have the Dell Streak with a 5" screen and Rooted with a Streak-Droid custom ROM and all the bells and whistles included but this new G-Note is making me very happy! I gotta have one!
What do I do? $700 now with no Bloatware and tether ready or wait for AT&T to put there crap in it and pay $300 or so and then root it?
This is a video (a long a$$ video) of the Galaxy Note and Nexus World Tour in Europe. This should help you understand why this phone will be sought after sooooo much.
i have the same confusion.. but who knows when AT&T will get the phone.. 2 months or more wait i guess.. wait will kill me... on the other hand 700$ seems too much...
I have been battling this same debate.
Here's the pros to waiting:
1. Save at least $400.
2. Gives time to see what bugs may come out by first buyers.
3. Easier warranty replacement through local att store.
4. Better layout of buttons as ours will likely come with a search button.
5. Possibly an NFC enabled American version.
6. During your wait you fin out about another device right around the corner that blows this one away...samsung it notorious for announcing a new device that blows away their current devices. Who knows..super amoled plus hd 5 inch screen?
The negatives:
1. They get it first. You have to watch everyone enjoy their awesome device as you remain sleepless at night refreshes pages for an announcement of release here.
2. The wait could be anywhere from 2-6 months for a release here.
3. The international version will get updated first while we wait forever for ATT to approve the update here.
4. Missing the cool look of the one main button vs a stupid search button.
5. Lose interest...convert to being an Amish and start making your own jams.
I'm leaning more towards waiting, but my upgrade isn't up until Jan 1st anyway. I also don't see the benefit in buying an unsubsidized phone since we don't get lower monthly rates for it. I could maybe accept paying $400 if I could save $20 a month on rate plans over the next two years.
From my experiences, it's ALWAYS better to wait in these particular situations, where new technology is evolving so quickly. Let samsung work out the kinks on the 1st batch of notes. (i.e. 1st batch of ps2's were not as good)
I really wanted the samsung galaxy s2, but waited and now I'd rather have the note. Save money, and more better options will open up.

I just ordered the unlocked Galaxy Note. I will be enjoying it a few months and then sell it at a loss and buy another high end phone. $700 for a phone is a lot but then it only take me about half a day to make $700. I could never wait for 2 months to get a new phone that I want. Time is money.

I have another question to ask...
Is the UK version of...let's say... the SGS2 the same as the American version. At least as far as Hardware is concerned.
I'm curious if it is common for Samsung to have Hardware differences in the same phones for different countries.
Anybody know?
This would make a huge difference in my decission to wait or not.

I pre-order one also the 26 but still no ETA
If it makes any difference to anyone sitting on the fence: I just read an article that said the FCC passed an AT&T version of the Note today. At first I thought "who cares," because I'm debating pre-ordering too, and as anyone else considering pre-ordering knows, the european model has support for at&t's radio frequencies anyway. BUT, the article pointed out the support for HSPA+, which I didn't consider before. I don't really care, as it's never made much of a difference for me, but if you do care, there ya have it.
The wait could still be a long, long time, but I like to hope that FCC approval means it will be here soon. Then again, maybe Sammy is just being diligent with paperwork... does anyone know when the AT&T GS2 passed through the FCC?
AT&T announced two new phones today, if the note was going to be on their network in less than a few weeks, I think they would have announced the Note too
Hey, Earthbrain: I don't mean to start a fight or get off topic, but I have to address the comment you made earlier. My father was a physician too, and I know it takes a lot of work to get there, it involves long hours, and you deserve to make a great salary. Not debating that. And I applaud your advice to study hard and work hard. But I don't like the implication that studying hard and working hard = good income. Not because that's a bad idea (it's a GREAT idea!), but because it's extremely untrue. I'm a teacher, and I work damn hard. As hard as a doctor? I can't say, I'm not a doctor, but I doubt it's a significant difference.
I know you didn't mean to be a jerk - you meant to give good advice - but it just feels like a slap in the face when you're busting your ass all the time for completely thankless work that pays less than 30K. You work hard and deserve a good salary, I just wish the state/school could afford to pay me 1/4 of your salary. Hell, 1/8 would be a miracle. My advice to any youngster/grade school student reading these forums: Work hard, study hard, be kind, and if you want a good salary (which is a good thing to have), choose your career accordingly.

FCC approval was a long time ago and unfortunately it does not mean that ATT is going to get it soon
You have to ask yourself if you can wait that long before AT&T releases it. It took nearly 6 months for AT&T to get the SGS2 from the time I bought my SGS2 from Expansys-USA.

Sorry for being a little off topic but I have to clarify after reading this post.
When I said "study hard and work hard" I implied that you will have better chance of having a good income. I did not make it absolute like you stated as "study hard and work hard = good income"
Nothing is absolute in life except for DEATH.
Doctors work very hard, but of course there are exceptions and there will also be "some" teachers who work harder than "some" doctors. However, to put it in some perspective, imagine that you are a "certain" doctor that have to go to the hospital at 6:30 am to do rounds and go home at 7 p.m after admitting all the patients and then there are days when you are on call in which you are constantly being awaken by the nurses or that your heart is beating more rapidly trying to revive a patient from a code blue.
Oh, and speaking of salary differences. An orthodontist who does braces normally make about 5X the salary of a general doctor and normally does not work as hard and has less responsibility. They both "have to study hard and work hard" .... so why is there such a big gap in salary?
Guys? Let's take this personal discussion of careers and salaries offline to Private Message.

What that guy said!

I feel like at&t doesn't actually want me to upgrade.

Lg Optimus G - Locked bootloader
Htc One X+ - Locked bootloader.
Galaxy note II - Out of my price/size range regardless of bootloader.
Xperia TL- Locked bootloader
Galaxy S3 - may grab but, not really thrilled about it like I would have been a few months back.
Nexus 4 - not paying 400$+ for 16 gb of memory and lack of LTE.
I really don't feel like I'm being *that* picky with what I want... Dev Support, better battery life than my captivate, a nice (preferably ips) screen. Either 32 gigs of memory or expandable storage.. and ideally LTE.
Anyone else out there feel kinda like they don't have any "real" options for their next device? I'm stuck on a family plan at the moment and feel like at&t is trolling me to be quite honest.
I feel the same here. I'm not upgrading anytime soon at all. My s2 should last me until I find a good fit for me.

It's a real shame too. There are a lot of nice phones being locked down for no real clear cut reason.
I mean I understand that they will sell regardless of whether or not I buy any given phone.. but, it just seems like a waste of their time/energy to lock up a phone when all it does is discourage users from upgrading.

While you are probably right on both accounts... I do think it's incredibly sad on all accounts.
They
A. spend money to lock down the bootloader. Even if it's not a lot it's still money.
B. Loose out on customers like me and you and the few who refuse to buy anything that won't get ROM updates for 2 years.
It's spending money to lose money for no real good reason. And while you're right, we don't exist to them in a lot of ways.. they still look for every possible way to get in our pocket and want every dime we have.

A. is not necessarily true, because I'm pretty sure they hand out free phones to people who come in with their Android device "that just happened to shut off on them one day." Locking the bootloader cuts down on these numbers and saves them money in the long run.
Either way, AT&T has pretty much super phones from every major Android manufacterer, so you might want to take advantage of that. Also, the Galaxy S3 is a few months old - so what? Why is that impacting your decision on getting it? If I may, #firstworldproblems. I say go for it with incredible development support since that really appears to be the most open.

Also not upgrading anytime soon, but for another reason. As it turns out, I went through 3 devices from sept 2011 thru 0ct 2012.
But yes, nothing coming out appeals to me. I fear the new nexus will be too massive for me, and I don't want any mfg/carrier controlled device.

There are a number of phones out there that are incredibly hard to brick past the point of repair.
"Average Joe" is going to be scared off by the possibility of a voided warranty and having to do anything requiring any level of technical skill. I don't really think locking down the bootloader saves them nearly as much money as they would like to believe. People are either going to be scared off and not mess with it, or they are going to be angry at you for not fully supporting your phone in any way shape or form.
You also say AT&T has super phones from every major manufacturer, yet the only one you listed with an unlocked bootloader/ample dev support is the S3.. I hardly think that qualifies as a serious or decent selection of "super phones" to pick from. Unless you mean "they have a bunch of phones that will be dropped in terms of support after 6 months."
And you can #firstworldproblem all day long. You're on the internet. The fact that we are even discussing this on the internet means it's a pretty high chance of being a first world issue. Being completely blunt, if you were to argue it's not even a problem I wouldn't really disagree because, quite frankly it's a luxury device and not a lack of water needed for survival.
On the flip side, if you are going to choose to discuss an issue, why not keep it relevant? Even if it is non-existent in scale as far as problems go, we can still discuss whatever we want last I checked.

It's my understanding the new nexus will be about the same size as the Gnex or AFAIK it is.
I don't care if it has carrier branding, I just want the ability to install the latest version of Cyanogen until I'm eligible for a new device.

Oh no, I just have adhd tendencies like rambling.
At any rate, I am really hoping LG decides to throw out some way to unlock the bootloader. I'd really love to have a quad core device with an IPS display this time around.
I don't have anything against the SAMOLED displays but, I would personally prefer a sharper image to a more saturated image.
AT&T Atrix 4g user here...having a tough time deciding what to upgrade to as well. I've toyed with the idea of the One X and the SGS3 but neither excites me too much. Optimus G is very temping from a hardware perspective, but LG's lack of update support and a locked bootloader are a real put off. Will probably just end up grabbing an sgs3 because it will have the most rom support of any at&t phone.
I would prefer a nexus...but I just can't afford to spend $350+ on a phone.
My family plan on AT&T is breaking up. I've decided to go T mobile prepaid with the new Nexus, my dad, getting a job at US Cellular, will get a free plan there along with a $200 discount (he chose the S2) and my mom is sticking with AT&T for the iphone 5
Well good riddance, I had no service in various parts of school and at the local mall

Not entirely a bad thing.. Tmo has great selection of phones and AFAIK is a little more open with bootloaders and stuff.
I'm only getting the Nexus 4 because my current phone is pretty beaten and battered by now. (not to mention 2 years old)
.

[Q] Have I missed out on the Nexus 4 bandwagon?

Since Android was released, I've been a huge fan and my first Android phone was the HTC G1. All my phones since then have been Android with my current one being the Samsung Galaxy S2. While they have all been great, I have been really disappointed with not having timely Android OS updates. Some updates were skipped while others were delayed to the point that they were no longer the latest version by the time they were released. I then decided that my next phone would be a Nexus device. I was tempted by the Samsung Galaxy S3 when it came out by decided to hold out for the rumoured Nexus 4.
Everything I read about the N4 was looking promising but I'm not one to be an early adopter so when the N4 came out, I decided not to order it and wait for the early adopters to report any issues and make my decision based on that. When the 2nd wave of N4s came out, it was still too early as many people still had not gotten the N4 from the first wave so I decided to hold off yet again. I knew I'd be waiting until after Xmas for when I would likely be able to place my order.
Since early January, I have read a lot of user comments and I feel there is nothing being reported that has put me off. I am now in a position where I would be happy to purchase the N4 if/when it comes back on sale in the UK. I now hear rumours that this may not happen until mid-February. This would be around 3 months after it's initial release which is much longer than I hoped to wait for. I am really confused which way to go on this.
Reasons to skip the N4:
1. Being 3 months in probably means we're about 9 months away from the "Nexus 5". With JB update starting to roll out to the SGS2, I could quite possibly hold off until the N5. Also, there's no guarantee that the N4 supply won't be delayed further.
2. The flaky supply issues could indicate that LG accessories, spares and repairs could be affected as well. Even if available, they may charge a disproportional amount compared to the phone price.
3. I'm intrigued by the rumours of the Motorola X phone.
Reasons to buy the N4:
1. The N4 is still a great phone even if I only get my hands on it in late Feb. I don't use the phone for gaming so the spec of the phone could easily last me 2 years (or whenever I get tempted by another phone).
2. Google and LG have really shaken the market by bringing this phone at such a low price point. I'm hoping it will lead the way for other manufacturers that top end phones shouldn't be such a huge price. Buying the N4 shows my consumer support for this thinking. As a consumer, wouldn't we all love cheaper (top end) phones.
Any thoughts, suggestions?
Buy. It.

The only thing REALLY bugging me about the N4 is that google hasn't restocked in over a month.
You said the thing that bothers you most is lack of timely updates. Buy it and be happy.
When the n5 comes out you can sell the n4 with minimal loss. Go for it.

I don't really understand this part, where you basically say "I've waited 3 months for the N4, I'd better wait 9 more to the N5".
You waited until after Christmas before deciding to place the order, so you've actually waited 1 month more than expected as of today. I think that's not that big deal.
In either case you're gonna wait, so why wait more?
Following your line of thought, you should wait 2 months after the N5 launch (if you want to wait for the opinion of the early adopters as you did for the N4) before buying it. This'll make you wait roughly a year from now.
Are you sure the N5 launch will be as smooth as butter? What if the N5 is another really well-built and cheap device... and you have just the whole world waiting to lay their hands on it?
Who says you'll be able to get the Nexus 5 at launch?
To sum it up: waiting for the new Nexus device is not worth the time. The Nexus 4 is an awesome device, buy it (sic)!
And if the Nexus 5 will prove being that much better smartphone, you'll still be able to sell the N4 at a great price and buy the N5 without a hitch.
And if the declarations of LG France are truthful, you'll probably have to wait just one more month before unwrapping your brand new LGE Nexus 4
If you need a new phone get one. Thats the way I roll. I'll use this phone until its old and busted, doesn't hold a charge, Or I crack the screen.
DO you NEED a new phone? Can you afford 350 in throw away cash?
Those are the only two things I can see stopping someone from buying anything.

I was calculating the 3 months wait based upon when I reckon the phone will come back in stock in UK and the earliest I'd get the phone in my hands. However, I do accept your point that if the N5 came out then I wouldn't get it at launch and would be waiting a month or two like I normally do. I guess the frustration of waiting for it to come back in stock made me mis-calculate the timings

I don't "Need" a new phone but I do "really really really want" one. I'm assuming you're talking about $350? In the UK the 16GB is only priced £280 (plus a little for postage). I can definitely afford this amount for the phone.
Ok, thanks for all the comments. My mind is made up, I'm getting the N4 as soon as it comes back in stock in the Play Store. Hopefully the Google Wireless charger will have been launched by then as well so I can have phone + accessories from day 1.
I managed to place my order bang on 3pm went it came back in stock in UK on Wednesday. It's already been delivered at home so I'll get a chance to play with it when I get back. Less than 43 hours from placing order to being delivered is pretty good. Looks like Google has definitely gotten their act together. I also see that they are still in stock showing 1 to 2 weeks shipping (which is what it said when I placed my order) so it's all looking very positive.
Ignore this, you've already got it lol
Enjoy

Comparing based on the number of times it has sold out is pointless unless you factor in the number of units available each time. If they released it in smaller batches then I'm sure they would have more than 3 "sell outs".
The content of your post is both pointless and unhelpful as it is but the fact that you wrote it after I already posted that I've purchased the device AND taken delivery takes it to a whole new level. *slow clap*

Motorola is still looking for a product manager for the X-Phone, so it isn't THAT close, and it's biggest advantage over the N4 will be probably be a 1080p screen, which is nigh-moot on a phone. It will probably have LTE variants, too.
Buy it.

[OFFICIAL OFF-TOPIC LOUNGE] Talk about (most) anything

Hi all you Verizon Note 4 owners,
I noticed there wasn't an off topic thread for you guys & gals to talk about non-Note 4 related things, so I've created this place to do just that. This will be the only place off-topic discussions are allowed.
Of course, not anything goes, stick to the rules and keep it civil. Report any questionable post(s) & don't let things get out of hand or it'll be closed.
Thanks & Enjoy!
So anyone read theres speculation that Lollipop isnt coming to the Note 4 till may. Im not too worried about it myself cause my DE is perfect, however my wife is disappointed (she has retail version) as some of her friends got it on their phones (S5, and some other brands) and she cant understand what's taking so long, after I explained things to her shes not convinced and feels lile we are being screwed. Ahh the joys life.

I miss one thing about apple, camera+ app. The best photo editing app in existence and the developer "tap tap tap" doesn't want to come to android. Just being an a$$.
Other than that apple is like a bad history for me. lol
I learned a shocking feature on iPhones the other day, if you go into the privacy settings there is a feature in there that tracks your address the time you spent there where you travel to everything you do in plain English and very easily accessible. Does android have a feature like that built in? I hope not lol not that I go any place bad it just seemed a little intrusive. I do know they have GPS and all that but that was really precise.

I don't know, but we do have a file in the system called "mobile tracker" that is, I think, used to track your phone just in case you lose it. Not sure, but I usually freeze/delete it with titanium back up. Also, if you're rooted, you can always install xprivacy module that prevents anything you suspect.
What's the longest you guys ever went without rooting your devices? I would say a month, I've just gotten my first Android phone (ZTE Warp) and the bootloader wasn't unlocked yet, I checked the forums every day until I seen the almighty *HOW TO ROOT ZTE WARP* boy was I excited. Ever since then I've never owned a android if I couldn't root it but this might be my first time, I'm looking to purchase the note 4 this April or May I only have the option of getting the att&t or Verizon variant (just my luck, lol) most likely I'll chose which ever gets rooted first. I'm sure by either April or May it should be rooted.

I had my Verizon HTC One M7 for a couple months before it was rooted, and even then you had to send your phone away and pay $25. I think a month or two after that beaups and someone else came up with a method that worked pretty well on linux and that was it. Then I had the M8 for a couple of months until there was a way but it also cost $25 and ran directly on the phone. I'm not so much concerned about root, really. I just want ****ing lollipop.
Hey everyone. Trafalger888. Used to be an RC but haven't been around for a couple years. Life happened. Just getting back into everything. Lits of catching up to do. Just wanted to make a quick introduction.

You know I wasn't so bothered at first by the lack of lollipop, in my past I was changing roms several times a week or day to get things going however thats changed now since I got my DE. What bothers me now now about the delay and the S6 and other things do I want to stay with Samsung anymore after this breaks or I want a new phone. Is it really time to say that Samsung is just isnt what it could should be?

I don't know. I have always enjoyed their product. But the delays can be frustrating. I agree. This is the one thing lacking for me. Yet I still continue to purchase their phones, because in the end they still do make the best phone. Just my opinion of course.
My wife has a retail note 4 and while she doesn't understand all the issues tied with lollipop right now she feels dumped. I dont see the big deal myself as im happy the way my phone is however for roms things have been VERY slow going... but then again im not really sure what other roms are going to bring that I cant do myself. Which I think most of us DE owners can do. I think if root was found and oprn bootloader things might be alot different but whats bothering me is Samsung's direction right now. If this is signs of the Note 5 and 6 etc. I just might go elsewhere. Some videos were released today showing the note 4 against the S6 and only slight speed differences in actual use and even camera loading. So over all for now Im happy to have a removable battery and SD card and a unlocked bootloader.
I can imagine how overloaded this section will be the minute root has been achieved, 404 errors and everything, lol. Anyway being that this is a off topic thread, I would like to say that the snow here in NY is annoying -__- .
How about the release of Sprints SM-N910P Lolipop.. Two questions who wants to see what they can do with it and see what works (of course it will lack advanced calling version X. Then comes the question will this influence Verizon to release it.

And yes root and an open bootloader would be nice. Look what happened with the S3 though. But I truly feel that the release and things like the locked bootloaders are not so much the manufacturer but the carrier. I may be wrong but I beleieve that pressure from the carrier is the main reason they do this.
What are the chances of me swapping a one month old Note 4 for a Nexus 6? Good or slim to none
Did you use a regular 2 year upgrade or edge to get the note 4?
Your best bet would be calling customer service. But even that is entirely dependent on how nice of a rep you get. If one says no politely hang up and call back. They make notes on your account when you call so don't call a bunch in 1 day. I work at an authorized retailer and most stores can't do anything after the 14 days.

Samsung vs. HTC now that some key features are being taken away. Hmm.
