[TUTORIAL] HOW TO FLASH STOCK ROMs WITH FLASHTOOL - Xperia Z General

I would like to thank Androxyde for the FlashTool!!
***BEFORE YOU FOLLOW THIS TUTORIAL MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE INSTALLED SONY PC COMPANION ON YOUR PC***
HOW TO FLASH STOCK FIRMWARE (.FTF/ROM) ON YOUR XPERIA Z
1: First of all you need to make sure you download the LATEST Flashtool from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162907
If it is your first time for your phone on the PC, install the flashmode driver, and then get the HW detection to work. Eg, install the driver, then turn off your phone, and then hold down the Down volume button and plug it in – windows will then go into hw detection and install the driver for the phone. It will try to check online, so skip that, and it will install the proper driver you just locally installed. Thanks to Mobe1969 from the Whirlpool forumNOTE: Been seeing people having problems flashing stock .253 based ROMs. Thanks to gm007 for suggesting to use the beta4 version of FlashTool if flashing stock .253 ROMs. You can download beta4 version from here http://goo.im/devs/jerdog/sony
Install Flashtool and install the drivers for the XZ Please see picture below:

}
2: Once installation is complete, navigate to the folder where FlashTool is installed as shown in the picture below
2a: This is optional if you want to create a shortcut to the desktop
3: Now install the driver for the Xperia Z. The driver installer can be found in the FlashTool folder See pictures below:
4: Now for Flashing your Xperia Z. You will need to download the STOCK .ftf (firmware/ROM) and place it in the firmware folder located in the flashtool folder
Here are a list of UNBRANDED .434 ROMs I could find:

And that is it, you are all done. Power up your Xperia Z and enjoy your new stock ROM
PART 2: Driver installation in Windows 8
Okay since people are having trouble installing drivers for the Xperia Z in Windows 8. I made a tutorial on how to install the Xperia Z driver using the FlashTool in Windows 8.
As shown in the picture below when you try to install the drivers for the Xperia Z in Windows 8 for the first time this is what happens:
As you can see the drivers didn't install:
So here are the steps to install the drivers:
Step 1: Go to "Settings" (if you don't know how to do this, place your mouse pointer in the upper right corner or bottom right corner of your screen and the sidebar should pop out as shown in the picture below):
Step 2: Click on "Change PC settings" as shown in the picture below:
Step 3: When you get to this screen, scroll down to "Advanced start-up" and click the "Restart now" tab. See picture below:
Step 4: When your PC restarts and goes to this screen click on "Troubleshoot" as shown in the picture below:
Step 5: Now click on "Advanced options" as shown in the picture below:
Step 6: Now click on "Start-up Settings" as shown in the picture below:
Step 7: When you get to this screen, click on the "Restart" tab as shown in the picture below:
Step 8: Okay when you get to this screen just hit the "F7" on your keyboard:
Step 9: Now go and reinstall the driver for the Xperia Z. When you get this pop-up window, please select "Install this driver software anyway" as shown in the picture below:
The process will look like this:
As you can see in the last picture that the drivers are now installed.
I hope that helps out people who are new to flashing the Xperia Z

Good work, just add tutorial in the title.
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium

I think you should add why we need flashing, as some ppl might ask what to do if we got a boot loop.
Other than that, this tutorial is great
Sent from my C6602 using xda app-developers app

Thanks for this! as a first time user of Sony devices, this will help me.
Thank you

Nice & tidy :good: bookmarked
Maybe a link to unbranded ROM download in point 4. Or are they country specific?

Well the stock ROMs are all over the place. Some are in the Android development thread and some in general thread. So people will have find the what stock ROM they want.

Awesome tutorial!

Great tutorial, you have my thanks :good:
Now a bit off topic if I may: having a carrier branded phone, if i flash one of the generic ROMs does it mean that:
1. I'll get rid of all the carrier bloatware?
2. My updates won't be conditioned by the carrier anymore (as in I will get my updates whenever the region the FTF is from gets them)?
My apologies if this has been clarified somewhere else (I couldn't find any definitive answers)

I have the attached problem, Can any one help?

Okay I will try my best.
Is your XZ stock? I meant unrooted.
Is everything stock?
Bootloader locked?
Are the drivers installed?
Did you turn the phone OFF and connect the USB cable while holding down the volume DOWN button?
EDIT:
Looks like your device is not recognised as you can see in the picture below:
Look at this picture below:

Use beta5 from here , and apply update to beta6 from here. With previous beta, loader was not included in the FTF, in such case, loader is deducted from phone infos. In your case, your phone infos are not present.
loader is selected with this priority list : first ftf bundle then phone infos.
in beta6, I added a fallback to device list user input to select the right device manually and such the right loader.

OK so i was looking around for a easy to use guide i could refer someone to and couldn't find one so i decided to create 1.
With this method you wont need to download the android SDK and instead can download a small package of files that i will upload. this saves around 1-2GB of bandwidth.
Firstly we should confirm your phone can be unlocked. To check if your phone can be rooted (most likely if it is not branded to 3, Vodafone etc then it can be)
Go to the phone dialer
Tap*#*#7378423#*#* then a service menu should pop up,
Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. if it says boot loader unlock allowed then you are good to go.
if it says not allowed or no then you will need to pay to have the boot loader unlocked.
Now we need to get your IMEI to do this type in the dialer *#06# another window will appear with your IMEI number write this down somewhere as you will need it later.
OK so now that you know your phone BL can be unlocked we will need to download and extract these files
ADB and Fastboot Package - http://db.tt/B5vG1yn
Now we can begin. Turn of your phone. once the phone is off press and hold the search button while pluggin in the usb lead. the led at the top of the phone will be lit up BLUE. your computer should prompt you to install drivers for the new device if it does then select 'install manually' and browse to the location of the drivers, depending on your system architecture (X86 or X64) select the appropriate folder it should then install the drivers if you get any prompts about unsinged driver just install any way.
if something doesn't happen like it is suppose to please reply here or pm me.
Next we need to go to sony ericsson's bootloader unlock site read through to confirm you understand what your doing then click continue.
Click "yes i'm sure"

ok now check both boxes and press i accept
now we need to fill in these fields (IMEI is the number you wrote down earlier if it doesn't work remove the last number and try again)
Press submit and you will see your Unlock Key copy it for later.
Finally after installing the drivers we will need to run the software called fastboot now to make it easier for you guys i have included a simple bat file which will load CMD at the correct location. so load run_me.bat and make sure the BLUE LED on your phone is still on. if it is then type this in to the new cmd window.
Code:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY
replacing KEY with your key. for example
Code:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0x726802F75671552D
your phone should now be unlocked. check my next guide on how to install custom recoveries, kernels and most importantly Android 4.0 (ICS)

yep. if i remember correctly he teamviewers with you, you have to put a paperclip on some test point on your phone, he uses some software which he has to pay for and then does some weird stuff and its done. that whats i read at least.
Nice clear and short guide, and you can see nicely how easy it is for the xperia play to achieve a unlocked bootloader in comparrison to other devices.
Isn't this supposed to go into the general section though?

[TUTORIAL] How to change the MODEL ID of the HTC One including video link

MOD EDIT
Seems this guide, if not properly followed will cause a (soft)brick. Also there are more up to date guides.
[how to]change your MID without the eng bootloader
[TOOL] MID change without ENG HBOOT | Aroma GUI
In the interests of all users the guide is hidden, below.
If you wish to follow it go ahead. If you brick your handset, you were warned.
FIRST OF ALL THANKS AND CREDITS GOES TO THE FOLLOWING XDA MEMBERS
@fnoji111 for working on the ENG HBOOT in the Droid DNA forum
@Argumentation for creating the flashable zip that I used for this tuttorial
@daddioj for doing the leap of faith and used the ENG HBOOT on his device which lead me to writing this tutorial
NOTE: I created this tutorial because HTC One has different variants. After reading mike1986. article on HTC One variants I realized why I can't install OTA updates with my model ID (MID). Now since we have S-OFF I wanted to get updates from the UK. But since I have a different MID to the UK version, I can't install OTA updates. And this is the only solution I found to work at this time. So I hope it will help people who wants to change their MID
VIDEO LINK AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST
REQUIREMENTS:
1: S-OFF
2: KNOWLEDGE OF ADB COMMANDS
3: PATIENCE
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PAY ATTENTION TO EVERY STEP ON THIS TUTORIAL
***** I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE*****
STEP 1:
Make sure you don't have HTC Sync Manager installed, if you do uninstall it!! Also make sure you have HTC drivers installed!
Step 2:
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38180376&postcount=6 and download the Argumentation's zip file
Step 3:
After downloading the PL83IMG.zip you will need to edit the android-info-txt inside. Please see sample picture below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 4:
Now you have to place the zip file in C:\Android SDK\sdk\platform-tools folder. I know some people don't have the same directory as I have so this is just an example. Just make sure you place in the platform-tools folder.
Step 5:
Now connect your HTC One (MAKE SURE YOUR DEVICE HAS PLENTY OF CHARGE) to your PC and start a command prompt in the "platform-tools" folder. The quickest way to do this is (see picture below):
Step 6:
When you start your command prompt follow the steps in the picture below. PLEASE BE PATIENT!! After flashing the ENG HBOOT your HTC One will not boot up but you'll just get a gray spotted screen. Your device is not bricked. You can still use adb commands to write the model ID and CID even with a gray screen. WHEN REBOOTING HOLD DOWN POWER BUTTON FOR A FEW SECONDS. You might have to press and hold power button and volume down button when rebooting your phone.
NOTE: When you run the RUU and it says "waiting for bootloader" you will need to restart your phone manually by holding down the power button for a few seconds until it reboots. EACH TIME (does it twice) the RUU says "WAITING FOR BOOTLOADER" you will need to restart the phone manually
You will not lose S-OFF and still have unlocked bootloader. I suggest that backup all important stuff before doing this I hope it helps.
If the mods feels that this doesn't belong here, please feel free to remove it. Thanks.
Here's a short video that shows how I changed my MID (model ID) on my HTC One
Just a side note: better to edit all kind of text with notepad++.
1) It formats text better (not just one single line)
2) It keeps Unix coding if needed
EDIT 05.12.2013 by the request of user @alray
THIS METHOD WILL NOT WORK USING WINDOWS 8.1
After flashing ENG hboot, Windows 8.1 won't detect the device and fastboot won't work, so you can't change MID and execute the RUU. (win 8.1 drivers issue).
I'll give this a go shortly
The warning on step six makes no sense
Does it automatically reboot after flashing the zip or what

Which warning? Like it states in the last picture when you flash the ENG HBOOT it will get stuck at 3/4 of a way in the status bar. You will need to restart the phone yourself. Then you will get a gray screen and won't be able to see anything. You might think it's bricked but it's not. You just have to proceed with adb command to write the MID and then another adb command to write the CID.
Once you have changed the MID and CID. You may have to reboot your phone and then run the RUU even when it's only a gray screen you see. The RUU will flash back the proper HBOOT and you will see the RUU screen (black screen with HTC logo). Just be patient and wait until the RUU is finished its operation. And that is it.
I will make a video when I get home to assure people that this mod works.
Don't know why you started two threads like this? But you have one in General and this one in Development.
But it doesn't belong in Development.

No harm, just easier to follow one thread since I am interested in this.
I converted my ATT One to the Dev Edition (hoping that nothing ATT is on m phone now except service), easy since both have the same MID but will be doing this for the PN0710000 soon.

Which one? Do you mean the "android-info-txt"? If that's what you meant then you have to put in your current model ID, CID and ROM version..If it's the same as mine then you just copy what is written in the first picture. Just remember that Argumentation's zip file is intended for Droi DNA but all you have to edit id the "android-info-txt" and you don't have to touch the HBOOT.nb0.
A video lesson would be perfect
Tried to do something, but adb is not for me, I guess...
It would be perfect to change from carrier to free uk version..

Uploading now, will post it in the OP when finished. The video is not a tutorial of some sort but more of a guide. It just shows you the process of actually flashing the ENG HBOOT and what I typed using adb/fastboot commands.

It's perfect will it include only the procedure of changing mid/cid, or maybe it will also include the beginning of downloading and setting up s-off? it would be great, because i didn't find how to get and use adb correctly...

Well my phone has S-OFF and have a unlocked bootloader. S-OFF is a MUST! You will see in the video very clearly what I type in adb/fastboot so I'm pretty sure people can work it out.
Video link is up! It is at the bottom of the OP. I hope it helps people.

A small guide by me: Get the BE2 after bootloader unlock

I made this guide with my C5303 running .254 o2 branded firmware. Should work on all other SP variants. (02,03,06) and even other Xperia phones. AFAIK this was made for the Xperia U and works on the S.
ORIGINAL THREAD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301489
At the end, you will have a like new phone with BE2, root, and recovery...even the offline charging bug will be gone.
This is not n00b friendly, If you unlocked the bootloader I think you know what we are talking about. Post any questions before you start.
Last night this was a PITA. I hate my new VAIO Fit 14e...it's a great computer but runs on 64-bit Windows 8. I can't install ADB drivers. So this morning I borrowed my father's Win7 PC (Old but reliable, as an old man's Buick)
Suggestions before attempting to do this:
GRAB A SNACK. This will take about 20 minutes
Download everything you may need (I'll provide some downloads)
Make sure the phone is charged up to 100%
We will be using SuperSU
If possible, delete ALL pictures, videos and music on the external microSD card. We don't want any data in Album,Movies or WALKMAN.
We are going to use some .zips, put them on the external microSD, so they wont be deleted.
Optional: Use a Windows 7 PC, it's easier to do this.
MUST USE THE NEWEST FLASHTOOL Download from the official site: http://flashtool.net/
STEP 1
If you are on a custom ROM or Kernel, Flash a stock .FTF. Remember: BRAVIA Engine only works on the stock firmware and LOCKED Bootloader. After Flashing the stock firmware relock the Bootloader and turn on the phone and wait for it, Do not update, install or login into any app,we need to do a clean install of everything. An example of how Flashtool should look like.

}
STEP 2
After the phone turns on its time to prepare it for Rooting. Go to the Settings>Xperia>USB Connectivity and uncheck Install PC Companion. Now on the Settings menu go to Security and check Unknown Sources Last step: Go back to the main menu and scroll down to Developer Options and turn them on.Scroll down a bit and enable USB debugging. Now you are ready to root the phone, follow this instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405933 BUT do not put the correct kernel, not at this moment. Just root the phone and then check for proper root access. Download this .apk, It's an older version of ES File explorer that works better than the new one
http://www.mediafire.com/download/n81418pco8d6igw/ES_File_Explorer_1.6.2.5.apk
Put it on the external microSD or whatever you want. o2 firmware has File commander preinstalled
Be sure the SuperSU app is installed. If not, run the rooting tool kit one more time.
STEP 3
Now we need a recovery. Check out this thread on how to install the recovery for locked bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2352920
STEP 4 Optional: Install any other apps you want. Install cerberus, my xperia or any other ones. Check my thread for some interesting ones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45840764&postcount=11
Update SuperSU by downloading a .zip http://download.chainfire.eu/351/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip
After updating SuperSU check that you have proper root access. If you downloaded the old ES file explorer, open it and go to it's settings to enable it as a root explorer, see the picture
If you can delete system apps, such as chrome.apk or facebook you can continue. If not try again.
STEP 5
Now for the real fun: It's time to put the correct kernel for our firmware. Remember, these kernels are .sin so they are installed via flashmode. See the picture, SELECT AL THE WIPES AND NO FINAL VERIFICATION, BUT WE ARE GOING TO EXCLUDE SYSTEM, SO WE CAN KEEP THE ROOT AND RECOVERY. THIS IS A CRITICAL STEP!!
After the flashing is done turn on the phone, It will take some more minutes. As before, dont waste time updating or installing apps, avoid logins
STEP 6
After a few minutes if everything goes OK we are going to need a root explorer, It's a good idea to reinstall the Es File explorer, to avoid loggin in the playstore. Go to Settings>Apps>All and CLEAR THE DATA FROM ALBUM, CREDENTIAL MANAGER SERVICE, DOWNLOAD MUSIC INFO,MOVIES AND ALL WALKMAN APPS (3)
STEP 7
After clearing the data from those apps, immediately go to System/App and DELETE CredentialManagerService.odex
STEP 8
Immediately turn off the phone and get into recovery and flash the BE_and_music_info_fixes .zip No need to clear cache or dalvik cache. After the phone restarts, let it stand a minute or two...now do a reset: Go to Settings>Backup&Reset and perform a Factory data reset. After this...this is the last one...now you can use the phone in a regular way, doing every step of the setup guide, updating apps and more important: Upload your media and see the BE2
Here is a mirror of the BE fix from the original thread: http://www.mediafire.com/?6gm9jb0lnwvvlfm
THE END
So this is for users who have lost their DRM files/TA Partition after unlocking bootloader? I will give it a try and see if it works.
This will get you back the Mobile BRAVIA Engine, along with the Download Music Info option in WALKMAN, but other things that rely on DRM keys will not work, like the location sharing option on MMS
So after this we cant unlock the bootloader again.. Right? If we unlock BE2 will b lost.. Right?
How to relock 2.254 firmware?
Any one tried this? Success??

But pls describe how to check the Difference in details.....
Open a picture you like. Take a screenshot. By default, BRAVIA its ON Go to settings>display and disable BRAVIA engine, open that picture again and take a screenshot if you can't see the difference. Put them on your computer and compare them side by side.

4) Now is the time to use Heimdall.
Reboot into Download Mode once Odin finishes.
Install the vcredist packages downloaded from step 1.
unzip the heimdall .zip file to c:/
go to c:/Heimdall Suite/Drivers and click on zadig.exe
click the middle menu button to select "Show All Devices"
from the dropdown, select MSM8960
click the "install driver" button.
you should see a success message
5) Navigate on your computer to c:/Heimdall Suite/ and open heimdall-frontend.exe.
IMPORTANT -- Go to the Utilities tab and click the "Detect" button
Go to the Flash tab on Heimdall, click Browse and select the HLTE_USA_ATT_32G.pit file downloaded from step 3
Click the 'add' button, then next to 'partition name' select system from the dropdown.
click the Browse button underneath the dropdown, and select the MI9_fix.img.ext4 image you downloaded from step 2.
6) Click Start. ***I usually check the 'No Reboot' box to prepare for booting into recovery
7) Heimdall and your Note will report a bad flash at around 95% -- but don't worry -- your system.img got uploaded Reboot directly into recovery mode.
8) Once in recovery, select "Choose update from external" in the recovery, and select the sec_csc.zip you downloaded earlier (did you remember to put that file on your external SD card?). This will install the CSC files and run the preload checkin so you don't FC all over the place
9) IMPORTANT--After flashing the sec_csc, the Note will reboot.
Try to catch it in time to reboot BACK into recovery
Once in recovery, select "Choose update from external" in the recovery, and select the 2400258.zip you downloaded earlier.
This will give you a stock MJ5 system. You can choose to stop here if you don't want to root.
10) Extract rldv.zip to the root of your internal sdcard (NOTE **my script removes Knox apps). Reboot, then once SuperSu installs, Reboot again.
This leaves you with a rooted MJ5 device.
If this helped, please hit thanks or donate
I'm finishing up a custom rom image for us. We'll be able to flash it without the inventive, but dirty, kn0x0ut script.

Unlocking the bootloader would also allow us to use custom recovery, and the custom kernels would also allow us to run AOSP based roms
---------- Post added at 04:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:26 PM ----------
Now on another note, I'm on MJ5 and I see where you say we can stop after flashing non-rooted MI9. Theoretically, wouldn't I be able to continue to root and then be able to use the kn0x0ut script to flash a custom rom?

I seem to be stuck on step 9.
I'm not sure how to get to the root filesystem with my phone not yet rooted. Much less have the permissions to write files there i.e. copy and/or extract the rdlv to /system/
I can initiate an adb shell session in userland as "shell" but not as root. Can you clarify this step please? I seem to recall when I first rooted my phone with MI9 that I had full access to the filesystem (even just using explorer.exe) after using the designgears oneclick utility.
update:
well my impatience got the better of me and i went to the darkside and rooted with kingo. installing wanam now and everything appears to be ok. If there's an obvious assumption i'm missing that didn't allow me to complete step 9 i would like to know though since the more elegant solution is the preferred one

No problems. Kingo works fine. But, to answer your question-you should always have write access to your internal sdcard -- hook your phone up to your comp and it's the folder called "phone" that pops up. I apologize if that wasn't clear.
Can someone make a video of this? I would need help with Step 2 and Step 9 specifically.

All of them you may want to review the context of that post as well as reading through the OP of that thread. Using Odin, it should be clear as to where each of those files are intended to be flashed.
I would like to remind everyone that flashing anything on a phone as (expensive) locked down as our phone is, is dangerous. It may be why we are all here reading this post, but, if one of the steps includes something you've never heard of, please take the time to read more about it. You may learn about other things that will help the community achieve full control of our device! We need everyone at this point. I'm drafting an army of the willing

Aha, i guess for some reason i was under the impression that the shell script and the rdlv directory needed to be written to the /system/ (owned by root with 755) directory. Not sure why when i was looking at the "phone" mount point it didn't look to me like the root directory of a nix filesystem. Regardless, i really appreciate you putting this together / figuring it out. My phone has been FCing for about 3 weeks now . Hopefully other folks have similar success stories.
I haven't tried any of this as of yet, but plan to later today when I have some time. This might just be the best early Christmas present I've ever received. I was on the verge of buying a TMO Note 3 later today just to be able to load a custom ROM... this appears to make that unnecessary. If so, maybe I'll take some of the price difference between my subsidized ATT Note 3 and the TMO Note 3 and add it to the bootloader unlocking bounty.

Ulefone GW01 runs with firmware of No.1 G3

Hi,
I got a Ulefone GW01 watch and i was unhappy that it is not possible to have custom watch faces.
So i flashed my GW01 with a NO.1 G3 firmware and now i can add own watch faces easily by creating the "clock" folder in "mass storage" mode.
Here is what i did:
1. Install Windows 10 MKT VCOM USB Drivers 32 or 64 bit:
tehnotone.com/windows-10-mtk-vcom-usb-drivers-for-32-64-bit-drivers-installation-tutorial
used file: Windows_10_MTK_VCOM_USB_Preloader_Drivers_tehnotone.com.zip
I need to use this driver, as i run WIN10 PRO and the driver included to the flash tool did not worked.
2. Get the latest No.1 G3 firmware:
en.001phone.cn/download-44.html
Download the version depending on your language needs.
I used version B: goo.gl/ixzX0j
filename: R02S-G3_NO1_PLUS_128_T5_L2_G10_B_160304.rar
Extract the archive and check the firmware update docu inside.
There are also drivers included, which did not worked for me on win 10 PRO.
FYI: Ensure not to connect the watch with USB starting the flash tool.
! Ensure that the watch is switched off when you connect it ! (long press button) !
Follow the steps and finally start "download" in the flash tool. Then connect the watch via USB. Otherwise it will not find the watch and you wait forever...
3. Start the watch again and create the folder "clock" in "mass storage" mode on your watch and place your custom watchfaces.
-->done
Some remarks:
Unfornatly I did not backed up the original firmware, so it is lost. I was to lazy to check how to do a backup.
As the NO.1 G3 has a SIM slot, you will get a IMEI error message if you check the quick settings (move finger from top to bottom, not availabe in original firmware). I guess this is not relevant.
I had a bug in the original firmware that the "height" was not stored properly in the Pedometer. This works now with the new firmware.
I only use the "Mediatek SmartDevice" app to connect to the phone.
Everything seems to work fine.
Regards,
Tornator
Yes, height does not work properly on the gw01 firmware. Thanks for sharing
Nice. Beside able to custom watch faces and fix the height issues. Any other new features compare original? Or is G3 firmware much better?

Hi,
There is a "torchlight" app which only shows a white screen.
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sma...oming-soon-t3304683/post66665260#post66665260
If you press then the button, the clock is shown as "always on".
Nice. But don't expect a long runtime.
Unfortunatly i broke the glass of my clock, so i cannot play with it anymore, but i guess with "always on" you get max 5 h runtime.

Tornator

In flashtools have program to have the risks in the options according to the image?
Then just press Download and expect to complete the cycle (100%)?
The scatter file is KCT02A_WT_11C_BB.cfg?
You spoke of the possibility of making a backup.
It is possible to Flashtools? I can do it and send you, you just have to give me the steps to do so.
Regards,
Jorge
Hi Jorge,
yes the scatter file is KCT02A_WT_11C_BB.cfg .
I have no idea how to do a backup.
I have also no idea about risks when flashing does not work properly. I guess it is bricked then.
But no risk - no fun.
When you installed the driver before, you now can switch off the watch (log press button) and do NOT connect it yet.
Then press "download", wait a second for the "try to connect" message and then you can connect the watch.
It took 1-2 minutes to see the "green ring" = ok.
FYI: My watch is not working anymore, as i tried to open it and by this the display broke.
I ordered a new one, but this will take some days.
If someone tries to open it, too: There are 4 screws on the back. Remove them and you can open it easily. Do not press !
Inside there are 2 other screws. If you remove them, you can separate the electronic from the watch body.
Good luck,
Tornator

-->done
Everything seems to work fine.

does it matter which flash tool version you use? I saw there are v3 and v5?
Hi Winderic,
Sorry, i'm not an expert. This was my first and only try to flash a smartwatch / phone. For me it worked with the mentioned tools.

For the backup topic i found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sma.../readback-extractor-mtk6260-firmware-t3289272
I will try it, once i receive my new watch in some days.
@Tornator
A million thanks for your bravery and sharing it with us.
I've thought of it too, as both GW01 and No1 G3 have the exact same hardware but didnt have the guts to try it.
But seeing your post i did try it and it works!
Now i'm just sitting on photoshop all day designing custom watchfaces.
For anyone interested these are the first
Game of Thrones
The Walking Dead
Mickey Mouse
Available here
Very tempted to do it. Just wondering does the g3 have clock face show steps and batt life? Cause I quite like the one on gw01.

No worries. Just realised the firmware come with flash tool and that's what you guys use. I didn't see any port on watch guess you guys connect thru charging dock? Haven have time to try on pc.

- you need to use the charging dock to connect with the PC.
- I remember that there were 6 watch faces. Some show steps and battery. One shows additionally the current heart rate (if enabled to run continuously, otherwise the last measure).
- Additional custom watch faces cannot show steps, battery, heartbeat. Only the time with custom clock hands and background.
- I would try to do a backup first. In case you don't like the new watch faces and you want to have the original back.

Managed to flash the watch now to G3. Didnt like the watch face but i didn't do a backup cause i tried to follow the steps but just can't seem to work.
Anyway, beside the watch face, i quite like you can swap down for quick access on the bluetooth and volume. The firmware also fix the height issues.
Hopefully there will be updated firmware coming soon and able to customize the watch face to include steps, heartbeat and battery life...etc
anyone know how do you determine if you can flash the watch to another firmware? I was thinking if there is any other firmware we can flash it. Thanks

I think it is possible, provided the socket is the same MTK2502!
What are you thinking test?
This time I'll try to back up the current firmware!
Hi have a windows 10 enterprise 64bits and I can not install the drivers in any way.
Already'm going with this! Were you able to install the drivers and to recognize the GW01?

managed to flash to No.1 S3 firmware but unable to make selection on the screen, wonder if the S3 have a second button or turn dial to choose hence wont be able to work on GW1. Will try another firmware with MTK2502 but can't seem to find a lot manufacturer like no.1 that put the firmware online. Let me know if you guys find any.
update - flashed back to G3 as i can't set the settings on S3 firmware.
I have made a backup yesterday
I put the link for download here
If you like press thanks button.
