Water Testing - EVO 4G General

Well I have been learning to build from source for the past couple of weeks and have several new project I have been playing with. I figured I would test the waters here at xda and see if anyone is interested in them.
1. Team Baked's newest black bean - 4.2.2 - along with the blackdome kernel
2. RootBox - Also 4.2.2 - again with blackdome kernel
3. CM 7.2 Supersonic - Tablet edition -- This is being built for a xda member who has helped me out. His Og is not in service as a phone. None of the telephone/radio is included. Everything else is (gps, wifi, HDMI out, camera).
4. CyanMobile - gingerbread 2.3.8 - This one has given me nothing but issues but I want it up and running badly. Everyone wants Jellybean on their phone and this will be the next best thing for those. Being gingerbread everything should work (ffc, 4g, netflix, etc..) and with this they have taken most of the cool features and back ported them to gb.
5. BeerGang's Jelly Beer - Cm 10.1 based - will also have the blackdome kernel
Umm.. anyone notice a pattern? Darn you TronIt!!! Why must you make such a killer kernel? Lol!
Oh since this is done from source I am also doing these same roms for the 3vo.... not much more work and twice as many roms!! Maybe time for more devices.

Nice work,JL,im up for giving all of them a try when you finish.

I agree - fire em all up and let's have a go at them!

The more the merrier...... Bring it.

2.3.8 sounds sweet

That's pretty nice, looks a lot like 4.2.2 yet GB based

Yes it has elements ranging from 2.3 to 4.2.2. Since it is gb based ffc and hdmi out also eork. I am going to play with it tonight and get everything setup then post some more screen shots. So far looks like the most things are working. I have rootbox compiling now and will have shots of it shortly also.
Sent from oh crap I forget where I am

Well almost everything works. Playstore is fcing and a few of the settings options fc. Who wants to test 4g for me.

my friend water tested an evo 4g before. he was pushed into the pool. I have this phone today, using it as a substitute for a ipod touch for now, my carrier is verizon. it isnt free of glitches, but works well... wait what kind of water testing are you fools doing?

I want I want I want....

I had two evo 4g's but I set one up with miui and gave it to my daughter to replace her ipod touch. Her screen was shattered and it only sort of worked.
She really likes the ios style and once i showed her miui she never looked back. She now has better games and more features plus she can hook it to her flat screen and stream movies in hd.

New user here, I'd just like to say Hi. I'm usually on the Moto Droid forums. Just got my Nexus S 4g today and I LOVE it.
Rooted running CM7 Nightlies.
I just had a few questions
I understand this phone cant do 720p. Is there a hack that can?
Does RenderFX help battery life? if so, which setting?
What are some roms/kernels you suggest?
Also, ill be working on some Themes for the Nexus S, (I'm a theme designer).
I usually make themes that make the phone look like another phone (iPhone, x10, Atrix 4G)
I'd also like to thank XDA for providing such an active user-base.
Think of a theme and ill try to make it, Thanks
Best battery life rom I found was oxygen. I thought I was going crazy because the battery life was so good. Its great plus you can download voodoo and it has netarchy kernel. Plus its aosp more than stock. Miui is most beautiful theme rich rom but battery life sucks. Cm7 was OK for me just kind of buggy. So I stuck with oxygen. Oh and nope...no camera hacks yet. No HD video or zoom. Sorry.
Hope this helps

For my TASTE, I like decks 1.3d since I had the least amount of issues with, none really. The kernel I have had the best luck with is Matr1x 6.0 cfs. I like the fact that it has voodoo if needed, bln and bld now. Since I updated to 6.0 I have had no lockups or reboots period. I don't change the speed or volting just the govenor (sp). They are smooth together. But for what its worth phones might not like the same thing as another.
I have tried just about every rom on xda for the ns4g.
Decks
Miui
Ice and fire
Stock rooted
Oyxgen
Kings
But I don't want to try cm7 as to battery life when I get well over 12hrs of use daily and no nightlys cause it seems like something is always broke. No offense to either or anyone, just what I prefer.

Ics on nexus running so smooth

Is the world aware how good ics is is and how well it runs on the nexus s. Is even the android community aware. This phone needs a new review just because of pics. Probably not but man I got this phone for 100 dollars off Craigslist and man is this a hidden gem. This is the perfect phone for most people.
Man I wish my epic touch had pure ics on it right now.

I agree, this phone was nice with GB but with ICS this machine is amazing. The best part about it is that this is only the begining
Hopefully thismeans we will be the fixed icsics

I'm quite curious though, is the new smoothness due to the forced gpu rendering? Is anyone runnning stock ICS but without 'forced gpu rendering' checked in dev settings that can give some feedback on its smoothness? I do know that scrolling anywhere now is much smoother compared to GB, almost as if animations were running in a priority thread like they do in fruit phones.
I leave hardware accel off and it is still exceptionally smooth, though not AS much with the stock kernel. Cannot notice much difference between the two with GLaDOS.
I'm pretty much in agreement with the thread starter. The ICS upgrade is amazing. Very smooth and fast. Everything seems so much better just as any upgrade should be. And also the new UI and graphics are great.
Its funny reading everywhere now about just about every handset waiting and or crying for ICS update. Most won't see it till the second half of next year.
I love my nexus even more than ever.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
also I'm running stock ICS rom with stock kernel...the kernel has been slightly modified for voodoo support.
Getting great battery life too. Thankfully none of the infamous 'android OS bug' so far.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Agreed, ics kicks a$$.
A few things that could have been included that weren't, lucky for us those there's the nova launcher that's shaping up really nice and adds what ics should have had in the first place.
I'm running my phone on background process limit of x3 and no gpu redering with nova launcher and it's amazingly fast and smooth with no lag whatsoever, even when entering the app drawer.
As it's been said, things will only get better and I also think the Nexus S needs new reviews doing on it.

It really is. I love my NS even more with ICS, altough my experience with it in Gingerbread has only been about 2 weeks. Previously I was using Gingerbread (CM7) in a ZTE Blade and, as an interaction experience (regarding solely the OS), ICS beats it to a pulp. Now it's a waiting game until all the quirks are solved
has anyone tried the microbes live wallpaper. Im using stock ICS, stock kernel, non-rooted and it is just laggy as hell. Rest of the phone is ok, but i wouldnt call it buttery smooth
The microbes live wallpaper is definitely more hardware intensive than most of the others. It would likely be -slightly- better with a different kernel, but i can't see the Nexus S being powerful enough to breeze through it.
Live wallpapers for me use too much battery for too little eyecandy, though to each their own.

At first I thought so too, but now I'm not so sure. It wasn't this bad in gjngerbread albeit 2.3 seemed a lot lighter and less ram intensive than ics. Also I ran the microbes lwp on my old g2 and it ran a lot better than my nexus s. I think its more of a software issue but I'm no dev.

I don't see much of a performance improvement (I don't think there should be one, either), though if you do wipes anyway you're going to avoid a lot of slowdowns.
Shame about the new boot animation, though. I kinda dug the colorfulness of the last one. This is a little too bluish, wooshy, scifi looking, like a wonky portal effect from 10 years ago. Reminds me of the unfortunate tastes that gave the mod community a few too many Matrix themes.

You can change the boot animation back to the old one if you want to. The new alpha-5 boot animation caused me to have a seizure so I found the bootanimation.zip file and replaced the new one with the old one lol
Just get the bootanimation.zip file from one of the previous versions of CM9 (/system/media) and replace.

S.O.S N and X are what you want for sure. We've talked alot in OD's forum I have since switched to swags roms. N is a senseless sense rom, its currently what I use, the sense apks were replaced by go launcher/dialer/lockscreen ect. Its very cool and fast. If you want sense only X is the way to go. Very very fast built with sense 4.0 elements really good stuff. Both of these are D.D candidates. You'll have a much better experience with almost no problems. Currently Swag is updating all the SOS roms for theme and more speed. Drop your swap partition before flashing any of swags roms you will never need it. I'll post screen shots of N for you to look at.

You can have any lock screen you want there's dozens of them. There's a really cool sense screen you can can icons on the lockscreen, just like the express. Mine is called ics HD by go locker its about the best one, you have 4 lockscreen icons you can set. It was to hard to get a screen shot of the icons while dragging the ring to show them. Dude I love the express alot, but since I've been on swag I've had a way better phone functionality and way more control over the phone with better results. I also am using underworld 2 and I'm getting amazing results on SOS. I'll always be a od fan but my evo belongs to swag town now.

Thanks man, I really appreciate your early work on this device, which was a major factor in my purchasing it! Before I buy, I always check to see what work has been done, what brick recovery methods there are, is there a root method; that sort of thing. Knowing that all those development safeguards is really nice. :good:

Tried this ROM and it has a lot of promise. I found it to be a little sluggish and other minor problems that were probably most my fault. Lock screen, I couldn't get to rotate and such. Went back to dopa v1.1 as it was smoother to me. Will try this ROM again and thanks for your time and hard work. When opening an app, it would sometimes take a couple of seconds to open. It was almost like locked up and a couple times I thought it was. Went back and wiped everything again in recovery and reinstalled but with the same results. Dopa v1.1 and Dopa v2.0 has worked best for me.

This build is working great for me. I've been using it for over a week & I have had no issues at all. My tablet performance has actually improved. Text input & copy & paste is tolerable now where as with the other Rom build I was using v4.3.1, had had me to my limit when typing. Thanks very much for this build. The graphics and esthetics are awesome too! Very clean & very nicely done. You can enable & disable lockout screen rotation in the settings as well. Take some time & really go through the options & you see the plethora of settings
Cheers & please keep up the great work. I'm loving this little tablet

I agree as well, but I'm having problems with Netflix keeps force closing, any suggestions.

I did see that there was a netflx workaround in the settings. I don't use Netflix on this tablet.

Thanks, I'll tried that. I really like this ROM, it seems to me more responsive and faster, without taking anything from the other guys making this pretty cool tablet even more fun and cooler. Thanks to all.

From what @Meticulus posted on his site it looks like he's moving away from porting BeanStalk over to porting Carbon which honestly I am fine with. Totally awesome to see newer builds of Carbon coming to our Sero 7 Pro soon as I loved the ones done earlier by @Bdadd34 as well.
