My Colcasac Sleeve - Oppo Find 5

Hi,
Just received my Colcasac Sleeve (www.colcasac.com)
Its...er...interesting. Fit and finish is good but feels a big large in my hands. Pics below

Holy cow that's a big bag, looks like good protection but too big for me .I think I'm gonna order a fit bag.

I did a carbon-look back cover :D

So i did this with 3m 1080 scotchprint carbon series and with nail scissors cutting it from 10x20cm took a while, about 2 hours to get it look nice i also cut a piece for the home button which took awhile too to get it fit perfectly!
to make this thread not so useless, recommend or post pictures of your customized gs2
anyway, what do you think ?
Looks excellent mate, would love a tutorial wouldn't mind that look myself.
Very nice...

Nice, I have a Samsung mesh case on mine which would cover that off
Does it say 0.8 MP?
That looks really nice, shame your not selling them
Its 0.8 because is on mirror ( 0.8 | 8.0 )
cost of this project was about 10-20 bucks. really, its not that difficult to make, just needs patience and good light. that is the first one i've ever made!
@itehappy most definitely hope its not a 0.8mp unit anyway nice to see people here from i8910 community!
Thanks for the prompt... Just ordered a sheet of 1200 x 300 for under $AUS 10 .
What did you cut it with? Just a normal sharp knife/razor blade? Any tips on cutting the corners, makig the holes, putting the sides and corners on etc???
I know it doesn't require a huge 20 page instruction book but if you could provide some tips or suggestions I think that would be great... Unless you plan on selling them then I suggest not to give the tips
Edit: Just realised you only did the back cover and not the edges... Maybe I will report back when I finally get my sheet and start cutting.
Nice! Tutorial would be appreciated!
When I read the thread title I imagined it would look tacky, but it actually looks really good
Nice. If you want to make some to sell I will buy.
I have a Silver one and you buy them online... o.o
looks great dude, what's the texture of the tape like though? The phone is slippy enough with the stock cover, with smooth tape it must be worse!
i want this too! Looks very nice!

+1 for you making them and selling them. (I don't have the patience)

It's actually textured, the "weave" is bumpy, raised a few cm, provides a bit of a rough, oil free surface without being uncomfortable. And you can do a fun DJ scratching imitation if you run your fingernail over it quickly.
I've been using it (they call it 3M Dynoc in North America) on the back of my SGS1 for over a year now, and on the back of my Tab 7" for nearly as long.
I couldn't be arsed to cut my own, so I bought mine pre-cut from PhantomSkinz (Skinomi also sells a very similar "skin"). The phone kit costs ~$25 before coupon, and it covers the entire back, the sides, and even comes with a wet-apply screen protector.
It's dead easy to apply, though the edges take a bit of practice...but if you screw up, just lift it up and try again.
It's durable as hell, the SGS1 has one minor, nearly invisible scratch in it after a year of abuse in my pocket, in my motorcycle jacket or tank bag, dirty tables, etc. They look far more "high tech" than the funky designs Samsung used on the back of those devices, especially the Tab.
Occasionally, I'd catch the bottom edge of the tape on the SGS with my fingernail when removing the battery cover and it'll lift a bit. Apply some heat and it goes right back into shape.
Little trick with the rough feel on the edges...heat it (desk lamp or hair dryer both work well) and run your fingernail over the edge...this thins it, making it much smoother.
I just placed an order with Skinomi for both a SGS2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 "carbon" kit. On the SGS2, I'm thinking about leaving the battery cover naked since it's cheap to replace and already textured, and just using the carbon on the chin and sides. The chin on mine is starting to show some friction wear along the edge closest to the battery cover, and the sides get slippery as a bar of soap.

wait wait whaaat? 1200x300 for $10 dollars??!? is it 3M 1080 series or 3M Di-noc?
i cut all this with little scissors, about the length of a palm, maybe just a bit more. corners wont need any special stuff, just a hair dryer to get it a little more flexible. ONE THING, when i bought the carbon, I tought that i'll just bend anything which comes over the edge, to backside of the plate. well its not that easy. gs2 cover is so precisely cut that it doesnt allow any kind of extra stuff under the cover, so you just need to cut it little bit at a time, then try it, and cut a bit more and try, untill it fits properly. this will take most of the installation time. just be careful not to cut too much! same goes for the camera hole. very carefully and take the time it needs, even if there is 0.1mm too much, the camera wont fit properly. not difficult, but takes time. a hour atleast.
meh, im a nice guy, i'll give all the tips needed
@viva.fidel
the surface of the new 3M 1080 series has more rubbery feel than the Di-noc (what skinomi uses) and there is seriously good grip! Doesn't feel sticky, but still offers awesome grip believe me! maybe because of the carbon texture i dont know but has good grip for sure!
sorry if theres typos, wrote whole message with GS2 in PORTRAIT mode
Hi, If you were to sell any, I would buy one, It look really nice

Turned a hard cover book into a case- comments?

So I wanted a case that looked like an actual book, and I could only find ones for ipad and e-readers. So, I went to the local thrift shop, picked up a hilarious hard cover book, gutted it and turned it into a cover for my Tab 10.1
Now, I haven't finished the final gluing or figured out a practical way that I can make it a stand(maybe you have some suggestions?). As for making it a stand, I don't want to add to the thickness, but still want it to be easy enough to prop up.
The pictures are attached.
Just wanted to add one more thing: MMMM! Blender recipes! Bet you never thought of that!
This is... cool I'm looking for a good case for a while now. The size seems to fit quite good. Probably gonna try it for myself
I thought about doing this a long time ago, but never found the right book. I just can't see using a recipe book, maybe a gun cleaning manual, something a bit more manly.
As for making it stand, rubberized tape on the corners, simple to do.

Well the book is partly to protect from would-be thieves. Who would steal a book of blender recipes?
Also, rubberized tape? Would that hold up to furious tapping? I also wanted it to be able to do very low angles too, so I figured I needed some sort of Velcro or string solution...
Velcro would work, at least for a bit. Look at how commercial cases work and find a solution you think you can duplicate. I always end up putting my glasses case under the thing for elevation even with the commercial case I use. As far as thieves goes, that was why I thought a gun cleaning manual might deter them.
ok so this is something that confuses me why does everyone that buys a non ipad tablet have to buy a folder/folio style case, what about some of us that want a case that just has grip on the back for holding while slouching on the couch? i found only one brand for the galaxy tab 10.1, the gumdrop and its $50, looks nice but come on i want choices . and btw OP this actually looks really cool, just has no use to me lol.

The point of having a case is so that the tablet is protected when you are carrying it around and ideally to act as a stand when you want to prop it up. I prefer having it out of the case when I am using it normally, but on the road it's great to have a case.
As for gripping it when laying on the couch, I don't feel the need for any extra case/grip. That would just make it more bulky. Is it too slippery for you or something?

Considering you're stuck in the 1950s, I'll one up you: if you need a manual, it's not "manly."
Nice case OP. I'm sticking with the vipertech clip case for functionality (same as pyroskins and atech), and still available on amazon for <$15...
Great idea. Though I find my 10.1 a little too big to carry around, it's mostly used for in-bed browsing.
I usually carry my Nook Tablet that uses a B&N book cover. It's great for carrying around inconspicuously.
Here's an idea: you can also glue/double-side tape one of those cheap ebay $6-10 TPU cases to a hollowed out book cover. It could look like a factory job -- and be unobtrusive and secure. 3M indoor/outdoor mounting tape should work well.

Unfortunately that would prevent me from easily taking the tab out of said case. At home I don't really need a case, it's just when I am out and tossing it into a bag or something.

Actually yes it is slippery on the back, and i do not ever wish to prop up my tablet i have a tv for watching videos and i rarely take it out of the house so i dont need to protect the front
That's pretty nifty. I will be trying this once I find a thrift store. I've got some ideas I want to try now.
Plus one OP

so funny! I like it!
While I'd never be able to give up my leather folio case for traveling, if I found the right donor book, I'd definitely use this when I'm just around the house and in my office. Thanks for the awesome idea OP

There are a variety of silicone skins you could use for better grip
great idea! the perfect book for this would be a hardcover Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy... the possibilities are endless - I'm off to the used book store!

Rugged case with GRIPPY back?

Hi,
I'm on the hunt for a rugged case for my Nexus 4. I have only two requirements. It needs to be rugged. And the back needs to be really grippy. The Seidio Convert case I ordered may be rugged enough to stop a train, but it also falls out of my hand at a very shallow angle because the back isn't grippy. It sort of baffles me - if the case is supposed to be rugged, you'd think preventing falls by making it so grippy it wouldn't leave your hand would be a priority. Even the rubber underneath the plastic back-clip is not very grippy. The Otterbox defender for my Galaxy Nexus was a perfect example of this done the right way.
Do such cases exist for the Nexus 4? Is there a good grippy substance I could put across the back of my seidio convert? I don't care that much how it looks, I just want it to not leave my hand.
Thanks!
Have you seen this?

I have this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AVAT76M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It is very inexpensive compared to the Body Glove (although I think the Body Glove looks better). I got it for $3+$3 shipping. It appears that is the current price as well (US). I don't use it anymore as it is very grippy and is hard for me pull out of my pockets. I will use it again in camping/hiking/traveling situations.
maybe this will help http://www.amazon.com/KaysCase-Armo...d=1363105718&sr=1-1&keywords=kayscase+nexus+4
Comes in different colors
Thanks for the suggestions! Nexibot hgigh, those cases would be perfect except for the plastic right down the middle which I assume is a kick stand. I usually place my fingers right along the middle, particularly when I do a one-handed reach to the top corner of my phone for a notification pull-down.
mackster248, I like the idea of the gel grips, but I really need the entire back to be one giant grippy surface or i find the phone flying out of my hand far more than I like.
This obsession with grip may seem a bit odd, but if you work around water, making sure the phone never leaves your hand is probably more important than impact protection.
Thanks again, I'd welcome more suggestions if people have them!

too easy to scratch the frame! fraying???

i got my new note 4 a week ago. i really take care of my precious new toy but i was not able to buy a case (the shops has only 1 type) so i kept in my pocket then noticed small scratches all along the polished metal frame. wtf?! okay i know its aluminium but i expected much more durability. you would think metal > plastic. well it isnt here! is there any way to polish it up again? its too bad yet and i bought a case finally but that abrasion happened to be there in LESS THAN A WEEK!!! otherwise i love it
Lol
I always thing these phones today are to easy to get scratch.?

My month old note 4 has always been nude and i dont have a single scratch. I also put it in my pocket but with nothing else. I have white model. Not sure if the black model scratches easily or of the scratches show more...

My White Note 4 is almost a month old too, i take meticulous care with it and too have found that i have scratches along the top Metallic edges - nowhere else. I ALWAYS use the same pocket and NEVER have enything else in it. It seems the material inside pockets is enough to scratch this metal I'm 100% sure this has not been in contact with anything else.
As for getting rid of them, i've considered using the Buffer on a Nail File / polisher. You know the types of thing that have like 4 different edges - a rough stage to file the nail, then gradually upto the 4th side which polishes the nail.
Like this :- http://makeupandbeauty.com/basicare-4-way-nail-buffer-block-review/
I was thinking of trying this with the polishing side only to see if it'll buff out the blemishes. I also have The Samsung S-View Case on its way so hopefully won't get any worse..
Very dissapointing to say how much these things cost - a little more durability would certainly have been appreciated!
you would think metal > plastic.

No, of course not. Why would you think that? Plastic is clearly the more durable material out of polycarbonate and aluminum with regard to scratches.
People scream for durability, but at the same time for metal phones. You sort of have to pick one.
Mine is scratched up too....only small scratches along the same polished, metal frame. I've had a case on it since after the first week of owning the phone and yes, it is the cheap Spigen one

Thicker leather case?

I've got the Samsung leather case and really like the look and feel of it, but I don't think it offers quite enough protection.
I'm looking for something in leather that is a bit thicker and also also covers the bottom of the phone or maybe a slightly thicker case that is leather-backed.
Any ideas? Thanks all!
I've got the following case arriving today, will report later.

I have a davis case one that is a little too thick for me. Pm me if interested it is brand new
Got the FYY case. Very nice build quality. It's a bit thick and heavy, and will be heavier by the time I load a couple cards and some cash in it. I'm a bit surprised the screen doesn't shut off when the cover is closed. Definitely a keeper, but probably not something I'll use daily.
Thanks all, but I'm not looking for a wallet case or flip cover to cover the front - just protection for sides and back.

No worries let me know what you find! I could use another non wallet one especially leather as well
Ali express has many but not sure about the quality
I bought this case, though it's not real leather I have throughly enjoyed it so far. Seems to protect the phone well and offers protection on all sides. View attachment 4821049
