[Q] Wireless charging and docking questions. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was just wondering is the Palm wireless charger compatible with our nexus 4?
Also I'm planning to start a little project where my Nexus will be my everything, from gaming console to PC and I was wondering will Slimport still run through this dock here? --------> http://www.ebay.com/itm/D092-New-St...395436?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2a280a61ac

No on the palm charger.

It is if you are willing to take apart the Nexus 4 and place the touchpad charger in the Nexus 4. One of the contributors at AndroidCentral was attempting such a procedure.

If you're modifying hardware then anything is possible, but we know that's not what the op meant .

Well I mean if the OP really wanted to do it. I am just presenting him an option, most people don't really realize the possibilities of hardware modification.

Nexus 7 Cases

Does anyone have any Nexus 7 cases without the sleep wake magnet thing? I'm not too comfortable with that. I've tried looking, but the nice ones all have that.

What have you got against the magnetic thingy?
Works fine here on my extremely inexpensive "Mofred" case.
That also came with a stylus and screen cover.
An iPad users was impressed when he saw the stylus. He'd had to spend good money on buying something that Apple deemed useless. Maybe they think that someone would sue them for stealing their patent for a pencil with a rubber tip on it.
Not comfortable with the magnet thing? I don't get it.

[Q] Wireless Charge Dock

Hey everyone.
Reason, I started this thread. Is to find out what everyone is using. When it comes to the wireless docks out there.. I'm currently looking at the Nokia one. What is everyone else looking into? Currently awaiting the release of the cube for the N4. Not available yet tho.

That one looks good too. I was reading around to see if the palm touchstone works.. But it doesn't! I want something like the stone.

At the moment, no one really knows anything about the official orb. I didn't want to wait to unleash the potential of this awesome technology so I bought a Maxell wireless charging mat. It works perfectly, and if you're interested then I just suggest getting one now. When the official one comes out you can just place it somewhere else in the house/office, which is what I'm going to do.

The part I am confused about is what they are going to call the next Nexus device. They can't call it the Nexus 5 because the number refers to the screen size: http://www.google.com/nexus/ (see Nexus 7 and 10).

They'll call it the Nexus 4S and give it minor revision with similar hardware spec. Similar to Nexus One -> Nexus S, and iPhone 4 to 4S. It'll also come with Android 5 and a free bumper case.

And for the name game the options for Google are - Nexus 4 II or the NEW NEXUS 4

The CEO of Google discounted this in the short term: "I don't think there's any physical way we could have released a Nexus Motorola device in that sense. I mean, we haven't owned the company long enough."

Why can't moto make a nexus like all the other companies, Google doesn't own them at all.

Well this is what the news, Larry Page and Wikipedia has been telling me, but I guess they are wrong: "Motorola Mobility LLC is an American telecommunications equipment corporation owned by Google and headquartered in the Chicago suburb of Libertyville, Illinois."
As for why, Larry Page answered the question: "we haven't owned the company long enough." He never said it won't happen, the hint is maybe it won't be the next Nexus, but not impossible later on.
I do like to see a Motorola Nexus, but the first step for Motorola to make a Nexus device is to get their head out of Verizon's arse.

The comment above made it seem like the reason moto hasn't made a nexus is because Google hasn't owned moto long enough... That's why I replied they don't own the other oems at all.

(q) micro usb cable purchase

I'm going to replace the micro USB cable that came with my Nexus 4. (The one from the stock charger). I need a cable which charges as fast as the stock one. I tried getting a cable from Mediabridge but they don't ship outside US.
I found those two on Amazon. They're almost the same, the one being 3.0 while the other one is 2.0. Is it the same which one I choose, and are those cables suitable for charging my nexus 4 with stock charger? Thanks.

2.0 Has issues with connections and the charging speed is not so good.
3.0 does not fit at all.
The best one is the Fosmon Flat Cable which is pretty good for its price, I even have one myself.
It is 2.1 AMPs out which does a good speedy charge on the Nexus 4, I even own a orange one and it is just so good.

Usually 1 year increments are not worth it.
Is the Nexus 5 an upgrade? Yes it has a better camera, better processor, etc. However, the Nexus 4 isn't a bad phone and is running the latest version of Android.
