[Q] ics for nexus 4? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'M wondering is it possible for a dev to make an ice cream rom based off 4.1 not 4.2. I really liked that a little better in my opinion. My imobster game just isn't the same on jelleybean as it was on ice cream. any thoughts?

I can't for the life of me think of why you would want ICS over jb but I think your luck is probably out. As I really can't see a dev taking the time to make a worse ROM. Sorry! Are you sure your game just hasn't been optimised for the n4?

I feels you dude.
I saw this post hours ago but I didn't even know how to respond to this. Lol
The only thing I could think of was the application itself was performing badly.

Not to mention that 4.1 is jelly bean and not I've cream sandwich

OP bought a future phone and yet he wants run something from the past . Do not expect any ICS ports for N4. That imobster game is something...

ics
Thanks for informing me I kinda figured it wasn't possible. Now don't get me wrong 4.2 is an awesome OS but I play this game imobster and we have a thing we call spam attack when you can attack someone 10 in one sec and JB just will not let me do that so I'm still playing it on my HTC ice cream based ROM but I take my nexus 4 with me too and just change sim cards back and forth. Lol I've flashed every ROM the N4 has I think and I just can't find one that suits the need of the game.I'm a nexus junkie and a imobster junkie and have owned the first one through the last one well I still own nexus one but got rid of the other ones until N4 came along but I just wish storm8 the maker of the game would optimize it for jellybean. Thanks all. Anymore ROM suggestions?

There's probably a way with a lg optimus conversion.. but it's a bit of a brick risk

This is the most hardcore hipster request I've ever seen on XDA.
Now if what you're really after is just the look of ICS, there are CM themes that do that pretty well.

Maybe try a Galaxy nexus ICS ROM with a N4 kernel? Not sure if that will work but if you make a nandroid I'm sure you will be fine

ICS and JB are 99% identical in terms of looks. Someone on the Galaxy Nexus forums asked for Gingerbread once.

Official ICS 4.0 ota for nexus s 4g before late galaxy nexus.

I just wanted to know if Google releases the ics ota for the nexus s 4g should I just stick with it instead of upgrading fully to Mac daddy galaxy nexus. I hope they release it on the sale date of the GN or before. Just want to hear some thoughts.

I agree with this, but the amount of resources and testing at google's disposal far outweighs that of your average rom builder.
Not only that, but I'm positive that Google has specification and performance information on the phone's hardware that the average ROM developer will simply never have. I agree, custom ROMs are fun to play with, but for everyday use, you'll never beat a stock ROM.

I'm on kang 15 and steve.garons latest kernel. You and I have very different opinions of stable. Mine is top notch. No hiccups. If u want to wait, by all means, I was...then broke down and the current roms are fantastic.
It takes less than 5mins to root, make a backup, copy that backup yo PC, then unlock boot loader and flash a new rom. If u don't like it, there always that backup you can restore. Too easy to sit around and complain when there are alternatives
I'm always finding things that don't work on custom kernels and it drives me insane!! I'll try to show someone something cool, and it takes me 15 minutes just to get it working, then I just look stupid because the rom I have isn't compatible with ___, or it's missing ___ (fill in the blank)
Yeah, they are fun to play with, and it's nice to have the cool mods & tweaks that come with them, but when you want your phone to "just work" then there's nothing better than a nice stable official rom that does everything you throw at it. speed & extra performance is great, but stability and compatibility outweigh those every single time, imho

I can't help but agree that ota is most stable But I feel the same way as you. Stability first. Yet I myself am not suffering from any issue. I find my self surround by multiple galaxy nexus owners daily and I am showing them stuff w my oG. Vice versa, just throwing it out there. I have been lucky when I have been flashing phones, many many manyphones hahaha. They all take well to me. I hate a screwed up glitchy phone

From GS3 to Galaxy Nexus back to Gs3

So I sold my GS3 for a Galaxy Nexus because I wanted to experience Jelly Bean. Well after a week I'm back and heres why.
1. Screen bigger and better
2. Camera much better
3.phone felt much snappier(although I wasn't on Jellybean)
4.volume much louder and crisp
5.GSM Nexus had no LTE and below standard HSpa+ never over 6 mbps
So if your in to specs I say the Gs3 is the place for you.
Also if buying the Nexus off craigslist make sure it's able to receive the update the one I bought was on the wrong radio and was told it would not which Is why I sold it too.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Well, not to be bashful or anything, but I figured going with the GSIII was a given. Jelly Bean may be great, but it's not going to do anything to get the GNex up to GSIII standards. And no worries, GSIII will get it's fill of Jelly Bean goodness soon enough.
I had the galaxy nexus, I want on JB, I have no regrets switching.

No it won't. Official ics only just now rolled out for some sgs2 phones. The SDK was released in October of last year.
You might get some carrier leaks (buggy asz shiz) or cm10 (less buggy) but that will probably be many months.

If you mean like a month or so, where do you come up with that bs?
The numbers speak clearly - look up froyo to gb, or gb to ics timeline.

Look up the change log and structure between those earlier android versions then go look at jelly bean compared to ics. Believe it or not the change isn't a complete overhaul, they meant for it to be that way.
Ps. there is already a beta jellybean on the international version, and we got cm9 and aokp within the first few weeks of the phone being out, the s3 is a whole nother beast compared to the s2

I really wasn't interested, if you haven't guessed yet.
I was making a point about JB not being easily ported compared to ics or gb.
Im no dev but the majority of ICS porting applies to JB. Under the hood they are very similar. Google Now, the new voice software, and the triple buffering (kernel level stuff) are the major differences. Google now is an APK and the voice isn't requiring a lot of work either I'm sure.
If we don't have a fairly strong jb aosp in a month I would be surprised.

I think it's pretty obvious that the jump from GB to ICS is what took so long. imagine trying to get all your current apps and data and customization to work with a new OS with zero hiccups and nothing lost. ICS is so completely different from GB, I'm not surprised it took so long. The jump to JB from ICS isn't nearly as large, as some people have pointed out. I'm banking on us getting it early Q4.

CM 10 doesn't require a bunch of new drivers or official blobs from Samsung so it should be rewrite of code and implementing the apps and such. If the SGS III got AOSP ICS in weeks I'd say cm 10 might be weeks away from the point source was released. I'm not positive cause I'm not on a computer, but I think Steve Kondik (Cyanogen) has the SGS III for T-Mobile. I'm no where near a PC (just my phone til Monday)... if he is on the device as the main team member, we are looking at great nightlys and then some.

MIUI ROM

Throwing it out there as I have the time to pursue but not the hardware - anyone willing to part with a p3113?, I'd like to port over MIUI for the Tab2. If anyone is interested PM me.
For the love of Google, someone get this guy a P3113. Or donate so he can get one! I'll throw a few bones your way Tuesday/Wednesday.
Anyone else interested in MIUI for our tabs? If 25 of us just do $10, this guy, might just deliver something awesome.
Can, you provide us with a little more info on your dev skills; can you handle such a task? Also, a donate button, or paypal link would help your cause, getting donations.

Hah' thanks for the plug. In theory this would be my first full blown rom. Ive always done the testing, never the up front work. I've gotten my tab to the point where I don't even care if JB gets ported to it. Everything works, its stable, snappy, and makes no sense to mess with it.
As for my Atrix4G...that ****s taken a beating and MIUI was my choice. There where too many minor bugs and since I want a phone that works full time, I stopped messing with that and went back to Jokers latest. Searching around I can't find anything for a 3113 and MIUI. In short, if I had something else to fart around with and get it to the point where it works as well as what I'm writing you with...I'd love to share, maintain, etc. Paying for the shorties education, sports, etc comes first...hah. took the honest approach with this one.

Miui would be cool but it wouldn't be hard for any decent developer to port. Plus with the popularity of this tablet miui will come, just a matter of time.

rascbean jelly is a slightly modified, slightly themed(black), galaxy nexus aosp jelly bean rom compiled and tweaked by @rascarlo. its light and quick. its meant to accompany trinity kernel but can be run with any job kernel. it follows rascream, which was a ICS version of the same ROM for the nexus s, ns4g, and the galaxy nexus. it should be coming to the nexus 7 in not too long. I know this because I have rascarlos nexus 7 in my possession, it just needs to make it to Italy now

Well....it's a matter of choice really!
I used to use cm9 because cm10 has a memory bug that requires you to reboot the phone once in a while...
I switched back to stock though...
For me it's better than cm because my music sounds better on stock, the camera is much better and also it has great deals in samsung apps!
For example you can get Modern Combat 3,Asphalt 7,Shadowgun and Virtua tennis all for free!
Try using foxhound ics ron which has reached a final stage and is perfect!
I use that combined with siyah kernel and i am a very veryyy happy man!
Try it and you'll remember me...
I wouldn't recommend using jellybean leaks because they are buggy....never the less the official update will come very soon,i think you should wait a liltle bit!

Idk, hard to say lol. Well wait, no I may not stay with stock. Anyone know if stock has cifs.ko support in its kernel? That to me is a vital part of any rom I get.. and with a device with HDMI output.. yea, network files for videos is good. (And not just DLNA)
Yea if I used my G1 for 4 years (Along with others in my sig for playing around with) then I can only imagine how well this device will serve me. Also I should be able to use Splashtop 2 or Splashtop HD shouldnt I since this has a high resolution?
Edit: Wait so this isnt the right forum for T-Mobiles S3? (Curse you google xda search for forum section)
Search the original android development for cifs.ko mate...
Now if you want hdmi like me stay away from aosp...
It's not supported and most likely never will be...
Latest leak is abs RC ,4.1.1 and reccomending totaly

CM10 is pure stock android with all the touchwiz stuff removed which means all of touchwiz features like smart stay, motion controls, the great camera app,pop up play etc are not there. If you think you will actually need these features, better stay with stock(or stock based custom ROMs,I'm sure you can find some nice ones in t-mobile S3 section).
Ok I found the T-Mobile forum.. but seems its being built. Dont even see an Android Development section yet? Man this is gonna be confusing in the morning when I try to work on this..

Whatever you do stay away from international forum...!!! You won't go into galaxy nexus and flash a nexus Rom to your t mobile gs3, will you? In the same way you shouldn't go and flash the international i9300 Rom... you have been warned!

Actually its she, and yes, I do study before flashing. Im not new here people Which is why I came and said "Hello" =p Tho this forum separating thing is confusing.. not sure what rom is ideal now.. Seems the international section is better handled atm lol. (So dont worry, not gonna flash here)
Basic problem is despite a sticky lots of NA users flash I9300 firmware and end up with a bricked phone .You would be surprised how many actually have done that very trick .

I've downloaded the free vers from sam store an replaced the device.config.xml but the graphics are not very well (eg the road has no reflexion).
