Nexus 4 weird camcorder problem - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All
This is not the usual camera crash problem. This is a counter part of it
I have people say . the Still camera crashes which can be fixed by switching to camcorder and still camera back. For me its the other one
I could not take videos with my camera. When i click the shutter , the phone would freeze
the sad thing, is it is not a prblem that gets fixed by rebooting. Straight... I CAN NEVER RECORD A VIDEO
Along with this , I can never play a video in my phone
What is this??? I dont even demand a solution. I would be happy if i come to know if atleast one in the world have this problem.

Camcorder problems

Has anybody had a problem with their videos recorded on their camcorders not playing back? It records the video but when I stop it, it stops responding and then I press the home button to exit it and try to play the video and it doesn't open.
I tried sending the video to my brothers n900 through bluetooth and it works but it stutters towards the end.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? The camcorder was working fine when I got the phone.
I tried to do a hard reset which seemed to fix it until I installed the hotfix from HTCs website. It is again not working. When I'm recording I notice that the picture stutters randomly and when I stop the camcorder settings stop responding and videos cannot be played back.
Can someone please let me know if there is a fix for this?
I just found out the cause to my problem. I'm on T-Mobile and as you may know that they don't have the youtube app pre-installed on the device. I manually installed the app myself and it turns out that this was causing my camcorder to not work properly.
This was probably the reason why T-Mobile took the youtube app off the phone. Has anybody else had this problem? It annoying now that I cannot use youtube.
Hello
I have the exact same problem, it seems that the youtube client is the culprit indeed.
Here is a somewhat of a solution, when you want to playback your videos use coreplayer.
That is really useless.... rather than fix the problem T-Mobile just strip out YouTube... one of the key apps...
I also have had problems with video but had not realised that the Youtube client was the cause. Recording seems fine but as has been mention playback is necessary using for example Coreplayer... not ideal but at least it is an option.

Blurry video recording

I have noticed a problem with the video recording on my HD2 as of lately. When I get ready to record a video the image on the screen is sharp. As soon as I hit the record button the image goes out of focus and is no longer sharp. As soon as I stop recording the image on the screen is sharp again. I don't remember it doing this when I first got the phone. I'm not sure if I changed something in the registry to cause this problem or not. Has anyone else heard of this happening or know of a way to fix it? I searched, but it does not look like others have posted this issue before.
Thanks
P.S. Here are my video settings as of now.
Resolution VGA (640x480)
Review Duration: No Review
Capture Format: MPEG4
Sharpness +5
Sounds like the auto focus is some how messing up. Could be something on the lens that is making out of focus or something. Not sure what else would cause that. If you are running a cooked rom maybe try reflashing it.
The lens is clean and the camera focus is fine in camera mode. It will also focus fine in video mode until the second I hit the record button. The focus issue only occurs when I hit record to capture a video.
Am I really the only person with this problem?
I also have this problem but with the normal HD2, the camera for pictures works fine. The problem occurs when recording video, first its all clear..hit record...blurry...im not sure what to do :O
Glad to know I'm not alone in this problem. I tried to record a quick clip today at work, and the camera was actually able to stay in focus when I hit the record button. Here is the sample clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB70tTDl1t0
This is the best quality I have been able to get out of it. I'm going to keep messing with it to see if anything changes.

[Q] Hangouts video calls have choppy front-facing camera video

Last night I tried a video call for the first time using the new Hangouts with someone who also has a S4. We both used WiFi, with similar connection speeds, and while the other person's video was smooth and clear, mine was very choppy. I could see it in the preview as soon as I made the call and it remained choppy the whole time.
I tried switching to mobile data and it was the exact same - perfect video on the other end, and really choppy video on mine.
If I switched cameras around though to use the rear camera, it became smooth as expected, and only when I switched back to the front facing camera did it become choppy again.
If I use the camera app and use the front facing camera it looks smooth as expected.
Does anyone know why only I would be having choppy video and how I could fix it?

Were you by chance in a low-light area? If so, try again when your face is brightly lit.

When things like this don't really make any sense, I would try uninstalling the Hangouts (in the settings-->apps) and clear its data and cache, and stop the service then uninstall. Go back to google play and reinstall it and reboot. Hope this does it!

I wouldn't say a low light area, it wasn't the brightest either but there was definitely a decent enough amount of light.

I'll give this a shot, I'll report back tonight if it works or not.

I tried the hangout again but it still had choppy video. On a hunch I went into the settings and disabled some of the "smart" features that rely on the front facing camera (e.g. Smart Pause) and while trying again we both agreed that the video was smoother than before, but still choppier than we felt it should be. I tried turning off other features too like Smart Stay but they had no effect (the other person was using Smart Stay as well).
Any ideas?

[Q] constant autofocus?

I've not really used my Z2 for video much.
I was at my kids nativity play and tried to do so, but the camera was constantly autofocussing and the footage is unwatchable.
Nobody else with different phones had this issue.
I tried setting it to manual and also played with different focussing modes and it was just the same.
Has anyone else had this issue, is it hardware or software. I have a feeling it may be connected to the facial recognition, but like I say it produced awful footage and part of the reason for buying this phone was the superior camera.
Trying to work out if it is faulty and should be returned.
Thanks

A question - is this a video recording problem only or its the same with photo focusing. And second - try recording a video wothout video stabilisation option enabled / stead shot - off. Metering - Multi / centre. or spot - tap the screen where you want to get a focus. If this does not help - reinstall the firmware - and if this doesn't work aswell give it to repair.
Thanks.
I have only really noticed it on video. There were a lot of kids and i suspect yhe facial focus stuff was getting confused, but i turned off most of the stuff you suggested and it still did it.
I am struggling to reproduce this issue, so whether hardware or software it does appear to be that scenario that sets it off. Will maybe go somewhere busy and try and play.
Have downloaded the basic google camera to see if that does the same.
Thanks
