Ill be straight to the point.. most of us have been using cm9 which is ics 4.0.0 since august 2012,each week, well sometimes every two weeks, since they are missing weeks. Cm9 is a nightly, which means there are bugs and issues, since teh rom is not stable. However, most of the problems have been fix and I have had not had any real issues with it, I do use it day to day, till a new custom rom (based off a previous cm9 nightly release) comes out that I want to try. but the roms has come a long way since build 1.
If something went wrong? like you bricked your phone. There is two ways.. create a back up in cwm before you flash cm9... or you can used kdz, which is used to recovery your phone if your brick it or you want to upgrade or download your firmware.
Also please give me more info about your phone. Like what baseband you are using, what country etc.
Also there are some stock custom roms, which are modified version of stock (2.3.6). With features like 1000 GHz overclock, new launcher, file manager and other useful tweaks/mods

Upgrade to the latest firmware using the Lg firmware site. Also make sure you do a back up when you install cmw, before you flash cm9. Also you might want to download the 1GHz Kernel, even if you dont plan to overclock, it will get rid of the battery bug on start up.

[Q] JP2 vs JPF vs JPM

Hi all.
I have been waiting for the official Froyo update for G3 since last year August. I haven't tinkered with my phone at all and it is the stock 2.1 FW available by default in India (DDJG5).
However since the DDJP2 has been released, i have read forums with people having endless issues with this build. (Which is really disappointing from Samsung considering they made us wait so long).
So I have finally decided to flash froyo as i don't think Samsung will bother to provide a fix for the JP2.
And i wanted to know which stock ROM is the best, with least number of issues - JP2, JPF or JPM??
Also will i have any issues with network connectivity if i am flashing a ROM from a country other than India?
It would be great if we could also have a comparison of the custom ROMs available. (From what i have read so far Kyrillos seems the best IMO, but i am not too confident with flashing and partitioning as i have never done it before)
Well, you can only try for yourself. One thing is certain though, you can forget JPF. It's old and outdated.
I haven't tried JP2, but JPM in my opinion is the best froyo rom out there. Haven't had a single problem with it, and battery lasts very long. All major custom ROMs are based on JPM, too.

Thanks for the input.
I see you are using Kyrillos 4.1. Can i flash it over JPM if i consider a change later? Or do i have to flash JPF first and then Kyrillos? Also is it required to partition the sdcard for Kyrillos or can i just flash it and it will work fine?
yes you can flash it, and no, I don't think it's necessary to partition your sdcard
Thanks again. And one more question. I have seen a few versions of JPM floating around. Some with bootloaders, some without them, some say it is onepackage, etc etc. I don't really understand fully what they all mean by that, so could anyone point me to the latest JPM build, (with the least possibility of getting my phone bricked).
If it reads JPM then It's the latest build, always. There might be different ways to flash them (it can be a one package or in parts, as you said). So yeah doesn't matter, but if your JPM comes in parts, don't flash the bootloader. The only way to brick your phone during flashing is if you're flashing the bootloader and then lose USB connection for a reason or another.
As for partitioning sdcard.. I think you need to do it in Kyrillos. At least I did, as it showed me 0kb as internal memory. Kyrillos (and\or his thread?) can confirm this.
Oh and I cannot remember what ROM I flashed before flashing kyrillos, but I've seen the man himself suggesting people to flash JPF first if anything goes wrong or the phone doesn't boot. And I this was what I had to do to get Kyrillos' ROM to boot
I was using stock eclair 2.1 DDJG6 in India while other was flashing custom rom all around. I had a facination with live wallpapers so i rooted my phone and used it. Then i got offcial update directly from kies. Probably the first one in India. After checking it out i figured several bugs such as the youtube, camera, music player, stock browser. So i was wondering to take a risk and flash my phone confused betwwen JPM Stock and Krillos 4.1. Then i plucked up the courage an then flashed it with non overclocked version without partitioning my card directly from DDJP2 to krillos 4.1. Its pretty good atleast better than so called OFFICIAL FROYO DDJP2 we were all eagerly waiting for. **** YOU SAMSUNG.
Just saw on Samfirmware.com:
Europe releases XWJPE(March 30) and XWJPF(April 5) are they improvements on the XXJPM (Feb)...
It would be great to have all the issues and advantages of the latest FW in a tabulated format won't it? Would sure help a lot of people in deciding.
@ayan - How is the Kyrillos working out for you?, facing any issues in usage? Just flashed it using Odin with the tar file and the ops file?
I haven't tested these new roms out, but they most likely wouldn't release 'em if there was no improvements.
Oh and XXJPF is the outdated one I was talking about, this ROM is XWJPF, which as you said, is newer then JPM.
thanks
thanks Nice idea !!! ^^

Yes i just thought its better to do that way. And as off now Kyrillos is good. But the camera bug is still there. I dont know. I am thinking to trying the new firmware XWJPF . Lets c how it works.
I just flashed JPM build from samfirmware.com and it is root by default. Some issues i am having:
1. GO Launcher Ex keeps restarting 90% of the time i hit the home button.
2. Not able to log into facebook and twitter account sync, however facebook and twitter individual apps are working.
3. The sizes of most apps in the App Management list is shown to be below or around 1mb.
4. GPS signal not locking on.
If anyone else is also having these issues or can remedy them please tell me.

Problems 1,2,4 resolved after a few restarts. No. 3 still persists (although one can easily live without a fix for this ).
Really love the JPM rom... No real issues as of yet ...
I also have that app size thing and think it as a bug that I can live with.. it also exists in other ROMs. My theory is that the system has moved it to external storage and for some reason reading it as if it was installed on internal storage, and reads that it takes 0mb of phone's memory. I could be wrong, though.
Hope that wasn't too messy explanation
One bug i noticed just now ... Wifi takes too long to switch on and most of the times gives error. Only switches on after 3-4 continuous tries. Is anyone else experiencing the same??
This also makes me ask a question, can my G3 work on a wifi created by my laptop? if so, then how? Because i have an internet connection through a lan cable, and would like to utilise it on the phone to save up on the 3G data charges.
I like JPM IT is stable

[Q] Some questions regarding new update and rooting.

Hello.
I've rooted my phone a while back and currently have Recovery 3.0.2.4. Everytime I try to install a new ROM, i go into a boot-loop and I have to reload my Froyo based ROM.
I've just read that Gingerbread came out on the MT4G and I was wondering if its worth un-rooting my phone (if thats possible), to get this update. I'm not making much use of ROMs because I always get bootloops. This is probably due to the fact that I never have a version that works on both Froyo and Gingerbread based ROMs as I don't know where to find one.
If you guys were in my situation, what would you do?

The newest 3.x.x.x Recovery image will handle both 2.2 and 2.3 ROMs. Are you verifying the MD5SUM of the download prior to flashing them?
I don't know exactly how to do that. I don't see Md5 sums on ROM manager, where I'm attempting to download the C7 Mod.

[Q] Please check my approach - Flashing right from UK stock Defy to Quarx CM10 4.1.2

Hi All,
I've done literally weeks of research on this, so hopefully I've not missed any easy posts, but I want to check my approach and ask a final question. This is my daily phone, and while I know the risks and issues with custom roms, I want to get it right. Hope someone can advise.
ROM I want to install is Quarx's JB 4.1.2 CM10.
Phone I have is UK Motorola Defy (Red Lens, original):
System version: Blur_Version_2.21.0.MB525.Retail.en.GB
Model Number: MB525
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: EPU93ST2_U_03.02.00
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #1
My plan is:
1. Official upgrade to Froyo - it seems this is not yet done on mine, and custom ROMs require its Kernel, I read
2. Root phone - SuperOneClick
3. Titanium Backup - Needs Root
4. ClockWorkMod Recovery - Needs Root, and gives me Nandroid Backup capability in BootLoader
5. Nandroid Backup - this should provide me a route back to stock (* see question below)
6. Flash ROM - this will give me CM10 based on Jelly Bean 4.2.1
Question is, despite reading many threads, I'm still confused on CG versions and SMG file versions (CG##.smg). I do want to be able to flash back to stock after this, in case I want to sell the phone - if I flash up to Quarx's CM10 JB 4.1.2, what CG version is it and is it higher than I can possibly get back to stock from? Or can I find a Fixed SBF of a Stock ROM that will let me go back? How can I best prepare for this?
Anything else to be aware of or concerned about?
Thanks very much.
Steve.
The easiest approach is to directly flash cm10 first and check off it works(you can flash back your stock sbf if there's any problem) because CM10 WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CG VERSION
The potential problem you can face(which can not stop you from stock sbf flash) is an incompatibility of 2ndboot with your stock kernel.
If you run into that problem (which I think should not occur) you will have to flash a compatible sbf, with higher cg version and a compatible stock kernel.
Sent from my MB526 using xda premium
Thanks - good to know CM10 has no CG version. I expected the developers to want to get rid of that kind of limitation as soon as they could!
Hmmm, so could someone confirm, that Quarx's CM10 will flash directly over the stock 2.1 Eclair ROM as listed above (with root/CWM), and doesn't need Froyo deployed as a base? That would really help if so - then I have no further considerations and I can just get on with it. I'll take it carefully and I'd rather not be faced with non-booting etc the first time round.
I believe wifi tethering doesn't work on it, though, or there's some problem with restarting regarding wifi tether. That's a shame, but maybe an app like Barnacle or OpenGarden can work instead...?
You could try it yourself by taking a Nandroid backup and if you face the non booting problem then flash stock sbf+ restore. Beware that sometimes first boot hangs or bootloops and in such cases you can fix the problem with a battery pull, or data wipe respectively
Open garden works without issues
Hit thanks!

[Noob Time] Why FLash To CM 10.1 ?

Good Evening Dudes
I'm just introduced on this section and it's first time than i ve had a stuff like this awesome samsung
Smooth Fast Strong And God ! it's the beautifull customisable stock rom (it's really beautifull to compare with htc stock rom)
well the question is not here and the target also
i've never had the oppotunitities to try a CM 10.1 on any device Htc desire x hasnt official CM and not possible to port CM10.1 cauz Htc doesnt provide the kernel source.... damn
(it's was juste for put in situation)
What's the real interest -Gain can i expect with the CM10.1 on the Galaxy S4 ?
Whith this rom it's sound interesting to put a custom kernel also.
what can we do with cm 10.1 than we cannot with a stock rom ?
Yeah a know , i can make a backup on my stock rom , flash the cm 10.1 try and if doesnt like it restore to the backuped stock.
Thanks for your time
If you had any other suggestion better than the CM 10.1 (i know it s on nightlies sound like equal as alpha but
topic is open :s
Well the Stock ROM is pretty much as bloated as a whale. CM is only 200MB in size, so first of all it will save space on your internal memory. Second of all, you won't have a lot of processes running in the background like you do now, your phone will be a LOT more responsive. Ofcourse, as with any custom ROM, there will be some bugs and those ROMs will need testing and updates (that's why nightlies exist). But eventually there will be stable versions and imo, it'll beat the stock any day. On the other hand, the stock ROM has some functions like the IR blaster, the smart-pause, smart-scroll and hover function, etc. If you're a big fan of those things, stick with your Stock ROM. But if you would like to a clean, simple, bloat free and faster experience than you have now, a custom ROM is a great way to achieve it. But that's not the only thing ofcourse, CM also has some extra functions and customization options you won't find in your stock ROM, you can tweak your system quite a lot and there are some things I couldn't live without (for example swapping your menu key for your recent apps switcher, and putting the menu function on the long press ).
Thanks a lot
Sound really interesting
CM 10.1 it's more in touch with i'm looking for
The actual build of CM 10.1 can be used on a basic day usage ? or it's better to wait a few days ?
If i flash the cm now ? need also to flash another kernel or just flash the zip by philw touch recovery ?
can i come back to my stock backuped rom after if i want ? with the restore function of philz touch recovery ?
I'm using Philz Recovery too and yes you can flash CM10.1 from there (I have the latest build from June 12th on it). Before you flash, make your sure you wipe/factory reset your phone in Philz Recovery. You might also need to flash the CM10.1 rom 2 or 3 times (the second time it usually works), on the first try it always gives a Status 7 error (don't worry). Look at the thread for the Offical CM10.1 Nightlies, there's a lot information there!
It's working pretty good for me, I haven't found any major bugs so far. Just make sure you make a Nandroid backup in Philz Recovery first (and store it your external SD card for safety and to save space ofcourse ). You can always return to that backup through the restore function in Philz Recovery yes.
Also, if you update your CM10.1 with a new nightly build (for example next week, or next month), do it manually and flash it in the recovery each time. Updating it from the Settings->About->Cyanogenmod Updates menu bricked my phone today, so I guess there is still a bug there. Besides that, there are no issues what so ever according to me.
PS: You're from Liege? I'm from Genk
last question before the first try
With the original Cm we need to flash gapps separately or it's inside the rom ?
If external suppose to take the last release on goo
If I remember correctly you need to flash it separately
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Try This one -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296266
Yeah after flash the rom 4 times finally she install correctly ( 3 times error7 but no affraid)
Ui is clear, phone running smooth and very well no issue with wifi or 3g
The first bug i ve seen was about the carrier name -- the carrier name is showed like an id on a database (think the code for showed the cells with carrier name is not correct)
For the rest no speciq issue detected
Thanks a lot for your help
PS : i ve also find a answer to one of my question
when use cm you must flsah the gapps separately and link is coming on cyanogen page.
I ve read also than the build for the S4 T-mobile seems to work fine on this phone more bugs corrected on it ?
No trying BT for the moment cauz i dont had BT device
@disturbed : i ll try the rom linked this evening . Thanks a lot

Xiaomi Redmi 2 2014811 Best Rom?

I am currently on MIUI 7, the one just before it updates to MIUI 8. What I want to know is, what is the best possible custom rom I can flash to that will work with this device? I have Team Win Recovery 3.0.0.0 installed.
I have installed Redmi 2 2014811 for my casual user (no root or else) with this base rom : miui_HM2XWCProGlobal_V8.0.7.0.LHJMIDG_3240991baf_5.1.zip via CWM

Major issues?which ROM r u talking about?there are so many ROMs those are pretty stable.Only minor bugs(miui also have this)
BTW devs work very hard for these ROMs and they got nothing but our thanks and encouragement. These custom ROMs are way better in performance and customization than sluggish and heavy MIUI rom.
My phone is 8months old and this phone is still with me because of efforts of devs.
So don't be so demanding about 200% no bug and be thankful to them.

Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful. I worked on Windows Mobile roms back in the day so know what type of work goes into it. I have only started to look at custom roms today and am so completely lost, guess I chose the wrong word being major. When i said major I had camera and Gps in mind, as I saw some of those roms had issues with those. So again, no disrespect meant from my side and I apologize if It came out that way. I was just kind of hoping someone could bump me in the right direction. The last time this phone was flashed the previous owner flashed it in such a way that the sim card could not be detected, after fixing that I flashed a MIUI rom, but that was sort of the Chinese version and stuff like google services did not work properly and push notifications would not work unless you turn the phone on and go into the app. So yeah if you can point me in the right direction I will appreciate it a lot.

Video recording was a issue for Nougat based ROM but it has been fixed. And about gps, it is working fine (i like to use waze)with Marshmallow based ROM.I don't know about nougat as I didn't fully moved to nougat.I have downloaded Tesla (N) and sodamod(cm 14) today .So I will report you soon about GPS in Nougat.
Till now I have tried cm(M),RR(M),DU(M),Tesla(M),orion(M),zephyre(M),AICP(M),AOKP(M).Most of them has kept my expectation. Now I am on project-x(M).It is also suberb with almost no problem.
If you want to stick with miui based then there is also"thunder-miui" by @gkalen.
Try these ROMs and see which is suitable for you.I like to stick with cm based for C.M.T.E.
Edit:-GPS works fine in nougat.
Lollipop (5.x) - CM 12.1
Marshmallow (6.x) - MoKee
Nougat (7.x) - I only tested Suda not good for daily driver
