how can i edit the height of softkey - HD2 General

hey all
as i found, we edit /system/build.prop as follow
change
qemu.hw,mainkeys=0 can enable softkey
change
ro.sf.lcd.density=240 we can change the resolution ratio
but when i change the value of ro.sf.lcd.density from 240 to 260 and reboot
the screen size of HD2 become ugly, font size are too big and cover one by one.
and the icon became more big too
which parameter can i change to fix this issue
all i want to do is resize the bottom navigation bar without changing anything else.
my current ROM is HD2 android [4.0.4][720p] NexusHD2-ICS-CM9-HWA V2.9a [NativeSD]
hope you guys can help me

I usually find mine in the settings & set it to around 24 so that it can be as small as possible

yes, but i try to find a usual method to config it out, many of ROMs doesn't give a UI support of this issue

OP, try to follow these instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227668

The density setting in build.prop changes every size onscreen not just the bottom like you need.

One nice tweak for the Xperia

The menues in like Outlook are incredible small, use this tweak from the Diamond tweak thread to make them more finger friendly
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\gwe\menu\popfnt
and change the value for the "Ht" entry to "1000" decimal
Now I just need to change the startmenu for it is also incredible small - and the HTCenlargestartmenu cab available makes the start menu funny on Swedish OS. In English OS I am sure it will work fine and it also sets the menues bigger like in the regtweak above
Cheers! This is just the sort of thing we'll need once we start getting our X1's :]
You can make it a lot easier if you use SK-Tools. You can make a lot of changes including the font-sizes. No need for manual changes and it has a set-back-function, if I remember well. I used it for my G900 too, which has WVGA too at the same size

I must be blind, I have owned this app since years but i have not found how to change the startmenu size - must look harder
Start sk-tools, then tune-up, then got through the tabs at the bottom to fonts or so (after colours, sorry, I have the german version and don't know the english names), there the 8. point is menu-bar-font-size (or so). Play here and you see the start-menu grow But remember, it needs a softreset to get the new settings!

What do you mean with the size of the start menu? If you make the font bigger, the start menu, using this font, gets bigger too. I have tried it and got a start menu up to nearly the width of the screen (much too big).

Menu Font Size changeable?

Hi - just have my HD for one day now and already get SOOOOO annoyed by the ridiculously large MENUE FONTS... you even have to scroll vertically sometimes to see all entries - WHY do fonts have to be 24pt on a mobile device? Perhaps this is only with the GERman ROM...?
Does some kind soul know if the HD's registry has entries for downsizinbg the fonts?
THX, LeDuc
Yes you can with Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3.
You can use Schap's Advanced Configuration Tools (Search) or you can go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\gwe\menu\popfnt
and change the value for the "Ht" entry to "1000" decimal (from 1200).
Works for me anyway...

If I'm not mistaken, this value is usually set to 800.
Anyway, play around with 800, 900, and 1000 and see which suits your personal preference. It may depend on the size of your fingers and application. Only some applications's menu are long enough to require scrolling which I too found annoying.
menu fonts
THX to all - problem solved!
I changed them from 1200 to 900 but it seems nothing has changed (also after a softreset). Could you exactly explain which fonts should be affected by this modification?
Thanks!
Ascenca
what I did
...don't know who is meant by 'you exactly', but what I did was change this popfnt's Ht=800 and Wt=500, softreset ... and BEAUTIFUL small and thin menu fonts! Now..if someone could point me to an entry where I could read a bit more about all these GWE settings ?!? THX
Ok figured it out by myself Didnt look close enough
Thanks for the hint, now the menu is really tiny.

Changing number of rows of Live Tiles - Problem

So, I was trying to add a fifth row to my Live Tiles screen, as I have 4.
According to this: http://www.ampercent.com/how-to-cha...e-rows-in-windows-8-metro-start-screen/10494/
There are a certain number of maximum rows you can add based on your screen resolution.
My screen has a 1366x768 (Not mentioned there). Based on that, I can only have 4 rows. But, what could happen if forced a fifth row with that registry hack? Anyone else tried that?

I have a 1080p screen and I tried to put it above what was allowed to 7 rows but after a reboot nothing changes. I even tried to put it to one that was supported but nothing happened again.

It resets the registry to 4 rows because it is also based on your screen size. Someone needs to find the hack that overrides the screen size limit. I have a Samsung Series 7 Slate that only has 3 rows and I think they are too big. I want them to be like my Lenovo Twist and have 4 so there is more harmony between the two but so far I can't figure out how Windows is getting the info for the screen size. Maybe the display INF?
Me too, i have an Acer W700 with full hd resolution and i nave only 3 rows. I hope someone can hack this to have more row and less big tiles.
I found the key to edit, it's:
\HKEY_Current_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Grid\Layout_AvailableHeightCells
In my Acer W700 the number is 3, the problem is that if i change it to 4 or 5 the system reset it back to 3.
We need a hack...

from another thread...this also worked on my i7 PC:
see below for the reg tweak:
1. open notepad
2. post following line:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Scaling]
"MonitorSize"="12.1"
3. save as a .reg file
4. import into regedit
5. restart surface
6. enabled will be 4 rows and 9 rows in portrait when you go: settings: tiles: show more tiles

In landscape it should just work - no need to flip the tiles setting. It is only needed for portrait. Make sure you reboot. I've done this on numerous PCs and it worked, even on my 1080p desktop PC/monitor. let me tell you, 4 tiles sucks on a 24" monitor!
I did make one omission, because I copy/pasted from my phone. You MUST close the space in the reg path in "\Curr entVersion\" or it won't work. It appears the forum breaks the reg path there, for some reason, even if you type it right.
One other thing to consider: the critical setting is: "MonitorSize"="12.1"
You could experiment with the numbers, although I have no idea what they mean. I do know that the guy who discovered this hack initially had the setting @ 10.1 instead of 12.1, which made the on screen keyboard too small to use.
I was posting the same solution from Surface's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086240
It worked for me, i changed value to 13.1 and now i have 5 rows

Font key to get better screen in all apps(works on almost every device)

Hey guys today am going to share a registry key that could help you to get better screen resolution in all apps. I tested it on my device and it is giving good result
PATH: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel\Theme
KEY: FontScale
VALUE: any value b/w 10 to 100 (recommended 50)
I hope it helps you
Click thanks if you like
Got any comparison pics?
Looks neat to me, using the UserPreferenceWidth did the same but for some apps only, i thought we could add the fifth button in action center with this too.
Any key for that?
you did not get a better screen, you just made the text smaller
under ease of access you can do this , Text size

No in ease of access you dont get as low as he has mentioned.
Use UserPreferenceWidth=75
that too gives lower font size

yes no change in screen resolution
but using way we can get the font and tiles even smaller than the system's default

weird, it worked for me on Lumia 525, u need to restart the phone once u edit the registry, atleast that was what I had to do to get it to work. Remember to pin the Preview for developers app to the start screen before u restart the phone or else it disappears from the app list.
i.e if you use the PfD reg tool hack
That on my Lumia 525, pretty sweet, no much use though
Any key to change font?
This is a lot better to add this key insteed change font scale!!
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel\Theme]
"UserPreferenceWidth"=DWORD:0x0000004B
& for 5 actions button:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Settings\QuickSettingElements\Pinned]
"AllowedQuickSettingsElements"=DWORD:00000005

Or nothing change?

[TIP] Adjusting DPI without root

How to adjust your DPI without root, I believe the current DPI is around 300 I could be wrong.
To adjust the DPI follow the steps below, THIS DOES NOT REQUIRE ROOT.
Open settings and scroll all the way down to About
Open Software Information
Tap the build number quickly a couple times till it says "You're now a developer"
Head back into the main settings page and open the new Developer Options
Enable USB debugging
Install ADB on your computer (there are plenty of tutorials out there if you don't know how)
Start ADB and check if you see your device by typing
Code:
adb devices
If you see your phone go ahead and type
Code:
adb shell wm density 250
Reboot your phone to apply the effects system wide.
250 is the DPI set which I think looks the best for me. Adjust how you like it
NOTE: IT WILL LOOK WEIRD AT FIRST, REBOOT YOUR PHONE!
This is a great method. Use it often. Couple more commands:
Code:
adb shell wm density reset (set to default)
adb shell wm size 1080x1920 (emulate whatever resolution)
adb shell wm size reset (set to default)
What Screen Resolution have you chosen?

I noticed in the pics from your review consisted of smaller icons. I am assuming you changed the DPI to 250. I would like to know if you have tinkered with your screen resolution as well. If yes can you show us some screenshots? Does that have any other benefits like battery performance and processing speed?

Yes, you're correct the dpi was changed. There's no performance gain I see. I do this so I can fit more on the screen at once within apps, while browsing etc... For me this is half the value of an HD device - you can shrink stuff down to fit 2x as much, but tiny text still remains comfortably legible.
This can also be done within terminal emulator. For me, not successful unless entering su.

thanks...got it...it just goes to default by itself when closing developer option......
This is pretty cool, is there an adb command to readout the density what ever it's currently set at?
I ended up at 390, it gives a nice 5x5 grid.
Thanx, work fine! A little notice: Asus Powermanagment end in force closed when you change the DPI. Went back to orig. 480 and it works, when you need it
And next big issue Swift key doenst work with changed DPI. When changed i saw only a few very!! big letters. Keyboard not useable.
Thanks OP!
The issue with swiftkey is well known and documented, just search Google for it (XDA says I don't have enough posts to post links yet). It looks like there's a fix, but it requires root. I switch to the Google keyboard and it works fine with modified DPI.
FYI, density setting of 460 is the lowest (stock is 480) that will keep the widget width taking up the whole screen for wide widgets. Makes everything a little sharper than stock, which was needed.
The hardware keys below the screen also stop working when the screen resolution is changed.

Try a different DPI. 480 is extreme and some apps simply won't work properly at such a high setting.
