Is 70 degrees to hot for an N7? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it?

TricksterMod always shows that even after gaming for 30 mins or so CPU temperature does not go beyond 60'c
Stock kernel or rooted??
Cheers

I personally have not seen the temperature hitting 70 till date..i have been using it since last december...
Any specific game in particular???
Have you tried the lean kernel??
Any ZRam tweaks??
After playing does the temperature stay around 70 or it drops??
Cheers

Vanir

I never used tweaks or the lean kernel and games like mc4 and dead trigger make it get to 70 degrees or even 72 or 73 but when in watch YouTube it doesnt. Do you know any good Oc settings?

I personally prefer the lean kernel and OC at 1500 and change the Read Ahead buffer size to 1667 .... Min at 102000 interactive governor even running benchmarks using Antutu and quadrant temp does not go beyond early 60
I do play a few racing games but not the ones you mentioned but have not seen it go beyond 60'c

Okay I will try that now and I will be back with the results

Okay I just did it I got a 5529 score on quadrant but the CPU hit 62

5529 is decent with this kernel.
How about the battery temperature???
What is the total up time for your grouper?
While holding the nexus do you feel the back rubber getting hot??
I did notice it at times but after flashing to lean kernel it was no longer there..
Cheers

Not a big fan of OC myself. That range is definitely what i see on my grouper too.

You should read the M-kernel thread and find out from other users. They probably posted screen shots of their values. Normally, for many devices you can under volt up to -100mV or even more. Read the thread for more info.

Nexus 4 running over 100oC safe??

I was messing arround with overclocking and undervolting. after f*****g up my app data with a "bad" undervolt I had a look at overclocking and I get over 100oC and still rising running at 1.7GHz is this normal? I have a fast binned chip
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Also getting over 80oC on stock!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Well the bar only goes up to 100
What does that tell you.
Bring down your oc dude.
The CPU safety threshold is 110.
Meaning if it gets to 110 your phone will shut itself down to prevent damage
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Thats all I wanted to know ... But 80+oC is insane for stock!
After undervolting its 75-78oC but that 3x more than my gaming PC!!! (And 2x the GPU temp)

Well what are you doing to cause this heat. On both screenshots you are showing Max load. Max CPU freq at quad core. Of course your CPU is going to be overheating.

if you wanna go mental with O/C, you should go for watercooling or liquid N2
haha, although I did apply thermal compound to my galaxy 5 and it was a lot cooler (it has a metal thing that is conveniently over the CPU

While gaming (or what ever you are doing to get it that high) have someone stand behind the phone with an upside down can of compressed air blowing on the back of the phone. This should help.

At the same clock speed of the Galaxy S4, you get the same benchmark result.
One more hint that this S4 Pro is just an underclocked Snapdragon 600, no more, no less.

I have an S4 and I don't think there is anyway my Nexus 7 can hit an 11k quadrant or a 26k Antutu at 1.9ghz. I believe there must be something else different like ram or something. Otherwise I would agree it is an underclocked S600.

Elementalx @ 1.9ghz on cm nightly. CPU running like a champ at this speed for 24 hours without a problem. Might try pushing it higher to see what it's limit is.

best rom/settings for gaming

Now before I catch heat for asking which ROM is best I don't want any developer on here to think I'm against their work.
Now, I'm trying to find the quickest ROM on here for gaming. I'm using the ktmana kernel and I know that speed comes from that but I've read that using the PA ROM actually hurts gaming performance. So I'm trying to figure out which ROM and kernal settings are best for gaming like nfs

I've found CM10.2 and Flaming Monkey to get great framerates in NFS, RR3, and Asphalt 8 with KTManta, 1300MHz CPU, and overclocked GPU.
PAC, Rootbox, and PA all didn't do too well. I may try Vanir shortly.
I use rasbeanjelly or purity with trinity for performance. Highest fps for me personally

Nexus 4 throttling issue?

I am getting my first nexus 4 soon and I was very excited until I read about the throttling issue it has (or I'm calling it that) i like to game on
Phones and that's why I was planning on fixing it. But if it passes 39c it down clocks everything? If I get a custom kernel and rom will it prevent this? Quadrant scores are really low.. I just hope it performs good. Oh yeah when I am gaming on my HTC Droid incredible 4G Lte if will get 55c cpu and 50-55c battery. And my phone never change clocks. Thanks for any help.

Well, with a custom kernel you can adjust throttling to your likes. My nexus performed better than my dads m7 in 3dmark

I personally got horrible benchmarks on the N5 Experience. I run stock with Faux kernel with delvik and bionic tweaks. Also the Google now launcher. I installed xPosed frameworks and GravityBox to get all the same features as the other rom but still have incredible performance. Just my experience.
