How long to get a root access ? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Based on the previsous Samsung phone rooting experience, how long should it takes for a rooting technic to come up ?
1 day, 1 week, 1 months, or ...
Regards, Chris

Let the phone come first lol

Most android phones get rooted within a week. Samsung seems to be very developer friendly too

S3 rooted before official release, I don't think it will take more than a couple of days

Check out Chainfire's G+. He is having trouble rooting S4. I inferred from the posts that he is going to wait till the device is released to attempt rooting it.
S3 was rooted even before the device was released. I had no words when it was announced that Chainfire rooted it. We're not worthy! We're not worthy!

I actually think they are, too.
but also lazy. not releasing source codes and stuff.
but their phones come with unlocked bootloaders, there's odin, easy to root, etc

They're developer friendly? then i guess they have made Exynos fully open source...right? because closed source chipset means no open source Android! I don't know why people are screaming about there chipset for not being developer friendly

it'll be my first experience with samsung, used to have htc devices only, i saw somewhere that samsung also have bootloader locked, don't remember which device it was, btw they're not lazy, infact lack of source code is to prevent rewrite or stealing their component's documentation, my guessing only.

Developers need to have the phone first. Only then can they develop the root.

Samsung phones are generally easier to root and mod than HTC. And by generally I mean a LOT easier.
Odin makes things easy.

@OP-Here's your root!!!
The ROM is packaged with ROOT&Busybox into an image flashable via Odin. The catch is that this is only for the Exynos 5 Octa version of the handset. Most of the Galaxy S4 units will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 chipset, and for this one root is yet to come.

Hi Dennis,
I just picked up a Note, too. I'm new to Android and I was thinking about rooting to get the ICS update early. Which method will you be using?

Welcome both, I hope you're as pleased with your phone as I am. I'd strongly suggest having a good read of Dr Ketan's root guide in the development section. Chances are you'll need to downgrade to root and the doc's guide is excellent.

Another new G note user here, day 1. Been on a couple of other Android phones. Boy, thus screen is massive. How on earth can you guys Swype singlehandedly?
The wifi upgrade to ICS was flawless. Personally, there is nothing to complain about.
Rooting the phone soon, and joining the crowd.

Hey! Yes, very pleased with it. I'm a little disappointed with the Android email apps, though. I've come from an iPhone so I was used to good email on that. I just can't find an Android app that comes close. But other than that, I can't fault the Note.
Thanks for that; I'll check it out.

Galaxy Note 4 receives first software update, improves battery life significantly

"The update with firmware number XXU1ANJ4 is small and has a file size of just 36MB. It brings improved stability, improvements in some features and also improves the battery life significantly. "

I looked at Sammobile for an unupdate for N910T and I did not see anything - the only thing listed is the Original Stock Tar for this phone - maybe they haven't updated yet?
Maybe just for octa core version?

People, there is no update.
Well there is one, but it's for the general international version. As history has taught us these devices get updates the first. T-mobile has to decide if they will implement this update (which they normally will) but this usually takes weeks (or months).

Actually the only ones it shows NOT in testing and still in Developement are the Note 4, Note Edge and tab 2. All others are complete or in testing.
Within the NEXT 2 WEEKS MM goodies will be delivered.
{This is a guess on my part and in no way implies I have a inside source named Frank who tells me all this stuff a month or two in advance. Frank did NOT tell me last month that first the Sixes would see the update followed closely by the N6 with about a 2 week break then N4. He also didn't tell be the the Note 6 has 6 GB of RAM. This is all just figments of my imagination.}

I think we can all agree that Samsung skips the testing phase and just pushes out whatever they developed, bugs and all.
Actually it was worse with my nexus. Official builds were basically Beta until CM or other device cleaned them up.

This is true. I literally gave up on hope for root two days ago and took the plunge. Fingers crossed! It's great to know that there are devs that go above and beyond to bring us root!
Is this just root or did you actually get the bootloader unlocked? Don't get me wrong, root by itself would be amazing, but I dream of being able to slap an AOSP ROM on this device.
I've been looking to replace my 3 year old, battered, yet trusty and still excellent S4, and the S7 has been the only worthy phone which checks enough boxes in terms of features and physical size, but without root I won't do it. Perhaps Samsung will be getting some business from me after all. Ideally, unlocked bootloader would be the preference, but rooted stock will give me enough of what I need. Any idea if this would work on the standard, non-Edge S7?

Root would be good enough for me. I don't really care about loading ROM's at this point. S7 has been sitting in the box since I got it, waiting for root.
Finally looks like good things are coming. Much appreciated and looking forward to rooting my s7
I'm still a bit skeptical but to be honest at least he's given some kind of proof. We shouldn't be bugging him for any information since we all know that Samsung is reading and doing everything that they can to stop this from happening. Let's keep it on the down low and just wait to see what gets developed. I would like to know if Samsung Pay still works, if we can flash a custom recovery, if root sticks after a reboot, etc but if the OP reveals too much... Samsung might get wise. Smartest thing here is to keep it to a small group for testing and then go from there. Rest of us just need to be a little patient.

Twitter Social Media Campaign to Free the Bootloader

I propose we take this time to put some pressure on Samsung Mobile and Samsung Mobile US to Free the Bootloader for the Note 7. As faith in Samsung's products are waning do to multiple products having safety issues and new and old are losing perceptive value it may be time to put the social media pressure on them to unlock the Bootloader. I have started tweeting Samsung Mobile US with the attached.

THIS is what everyone should be doing. Petition for the bootloaders BEFORE the phone is released.
The only message you will ever get from Samsung on this device is power down and return.
Samsung should make it so we have no desire to root our phones or need custom roms. By this point they need to work on the audio. There should be no reason why an app like viper cant be made. Instead they give us constantly crappy audio and laggy phones.

Thing is there will always be a reason to root and a lot of those reasons aren't a function of how samsung does business but rather a function of how android is designed, one example being adblocking. Even with those ones that route through a VPN that don't require root, they pale in comparison to Ad away.

Not going to happen. Phone is officially a write off so your chances of them pushing update to disable phone more likely than lobbying against unlocking broader on a recalled device. Furthermore to have one unlocked will hurt their bottom line, they only listen to the green backs. They always complain for security reasons for what they do but funny part is that custom roms (CM etc) don't have those security (stagefright) issues cause they are identified and patched before the masses sees it. They just want more from everyone and will always label us as pirates and hackers to keep the sheeple in line.
