Hi i00. I thought you are the guru of matters Shift. Since when did the student teach the Professor! Are you asking whether if you connect power shift can simply power on? Surely you got to press the power button to power it up. But who knows. There is a user here who has spoilt/lost his power button. His Shift would thus be the perfect guinea pig
I am not sure what you ask but I have an observation of my own on a related matter. I installed Win 7 and I notice that any time I leave Shift to hibernate getting it to wake up is a big hassle. Sometimes it simply refuses and have to switch off and on which is not the smartest thing to do. So now I have disabled hibernation as long as Shift is on external power.

Well i have tried everything ... but the shift does not appear to support usb waking or wake on lan.
I basically want to have it clip into my dashboard on my car (have a special dash made for it so that it can clip in and out as needed).
The only way i could think of doing it would be to re-wire the power button or physically make something to switch it when the car comes on
Kris
Does the BIOS on the Shift allow for "previous state after AC power recovery" in Power Management? This would bring the system on after "power failure" sort of speak. The other option some BIOS have is Auto power on at a set time.
Didnt try yet but Asix Usb LAN accepts WOL

by the way latest drivers avaiable are newer than ours provided by HTC.

New TF OTB, won't turn on? DOA?

New TF out of the box, charged (apparently), and it will not "turn on".
Note, this is a gift for my father, so my sister is in possession of the TF.
She charged it overnight and this morning, she pushed the power button ... nothing.
She went into a dark bathroom and could see the backlight on... nothing on the screen.
Went through the following:
1. Held power button down for 20 sec - nothing
2. Held volume down + power - nothing
Questions:
1. Is there supposed to be a light indicating that the TF is charging?
2. Is there a way to "reset" the TF?
3. Could the TF be in SLEEP?
4. The AC adapter ... is this 2 pieces? does the outlet portion separate from the cable portion?
5. Is this unit DOA?

Check that the 2 parts of the AC adapter are firmly pressed together. It sounds like it wasn`t charging.

She cannot separate the two parts. Is this supposed to separate easily?
Heard reports of damaged AC adapters. True?

Just tried to separate mine and couldn`t.There is a post about chargers but i`m afraid you will have to search for it. It was related to chargers not working i think (sorry i didn`t pay much attention as mine was fine)As far as i remember there are two different serial numbers for the charger. One was ok the other dodgy.
Sorry i can`t help more,
my tablet turns on as soon as I insert the charging cable... I don't need to press the power button
She tried a different USB charger, and no go. Still acted the same.
System did not boot...just a blank screen (visible in a dark room).
Sending it back to Amazon.
I have the same issue except that the backlight won't even turn on. Quite upsetting.
did you ever find a resolution?
Make sure you hold the power button for at least 8 seconds. If the battery is charged it should turn on. If it still doesnt you probably have a charging issue. (like a bad plugin trandformer). Try another power source. You can also hold down power and then plug in power cable and see if that wakes it up.

So I've made a bit of a discovery that leads me to think the unit is defective.
When I use the method you mention I hear a clicking sound which I think I've correctly identified as the tablet turning off. Once I hold the button 2 more seconds, Windows recognizes the tablet and has installed the proper drivers so the tablet is on at least at some low level.
The screen however remains black even in a dark room (no backlight visible). I have looked but I cannot seem to find an Asus tech support number for this tablet. Also because I can not get the screen to turn on I can not activate debug mode so I cannot get into ADB.
Try Nvflash, should fix any brick. If Nvflash doesn't work it's pretty much a DOA for sure.

black screen after sleep

Hi,
my n10 works great except the odd time when I try to wake it up and it's completely non-responsive, just showing me a black screen.
I'm unlocked , and rooted, running CleanRom. Is this device related or rom?
Cheers

Device is on - as I said it's not waking from sleep with the power button.
Confirm.
Strange thing - sometimes notification LED blinking.
How are you guys determining its on?
I had a defective N10 and experienced similar things. Another user taught me a trick: When you see the led flash but can't turn on the screen try plugging in a charger - if the battery charge icon appears, its not actually "on"...

My RMA experience was pretty good. It was a Thursday afternoon I phoned Google, and had the second device the following Tuesday. Although I don't like that they put a charge hold on your credit card for another $500 which isn't the fastest to come off, the benefits outweigh that single negative. You don't have to pay for shipping, youre never without a device, for a while you have two devices so you can compare (if needed), shippings decently quick.

This "black screen of death" has just happened on my Nexus 10. My device is unlocked, rooted, with CWM and CM10.1 and stock kernel. EDIT: the battery was full (~80%)
I was using Perfect Viewer and the screen suddenly went black. I've tried holding the power button alone and with the volume buttons pressed for up to 1 minute and nothing. Tried to do the same while charging and while connected to a computer. I also tried to connect the USB cable while holding the power button. Nothing worked so far.
Is there any way to send commands such as "reboot' or "shutdown" while connected to a computer? (something like the way fastboot works on linux)
Maybe removing the battery might work, what you guys think?

"adb reboot" is what you're looking for.

I just held the power button for about 30 secs and then it rebooted fine. Maybe a different issue then
I've had the same issue this morning on a 4 day old nexus 10. Its actually the 3rd time this had happened. Stock os and 2 accounts setup.
I'm also getting random scan lines on display.
Gonna RMA mine. Can you only call Google or can you rma online?
You can call or email them. Good luck!

Not that I know of. Your power button is dead I presume. If you see the battery charging animation it should mean your motherboard / main board is still alive..
Sent from Halo.
if that is true

If this is true, do you have a suggestion for me?
I can not find anything on here with my similar situation. I dropped my nexus in the water. Put it on rice for like5 days. I charged it and got a charge signal, but when I powered it on, as soon as it got to the main screen it auto powers off. I replaced the battery with a new one AND did a factory reset. It still does the same thing.

which main screen? The Nexus main screen or the normal home screen?
It could either be
A - You might have low battery, leave it plugged in for a few hours and try turning it on
B - Your main/mother board is dead.

Connect HU to power supply (+ / -, not PC)

Hi everyone,
I am currently fighting to get my HU working again (here), but I wanted to post a side question here for all the electricians out there, since it doesn't really have anything to do with flashing the unit.
I got myself a power supply, that outputs around 13V and can go up to 10.5A. It was previously used to power another HU so it should be working fine. However, when I connect the Android HU, it refuses to do anything. The display stays black and nothing is really happening. I connected the Power and S-Contact (?, the one that gets power once you turn the key) to the + and the Ground to the - outlet of the PU. I'm not sure, if I need anything else. It really does just stay black. I measured the voltage on the end of the Quadlock connector and it _does_ output about 13.5V, so it definitely has power.
Any ideas on what else I could try? Thanks in advance.

I just did this yesterday with a 14.4v 8.5amp wall wart i had and it is working perfectly for me. Without reading your other thread, I would wager the issue isn't the power source...
Good Luck!!!

Well, the issue is the software. The unit just won't go out of recovery mode.
However, because I needed to sit in the car while trying to fix it, I thought that having it inside the house would be a more convenient solution. Also, that way I could quickly switch between SD cards and also not drain the car battery. So the unit is turning on when it's connected to the car, but not at home.
Is there by any chance another connector, that would prevent it from turning on?
