[Q] Rooted Droid Razr Maxx / JB update - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted Droid Razr Maxx.
Voodoo Safestrap and Super UseSU loaded.
Wanted to freeze uneeded prgrams and tweak system to run quicker.
Also using Rom Toolbox to tweak CPU etc.
Loaded Nova launcher afterwards which I am very happy with.
My question is that Verizon is asking me to update my system now. I am assuming this is the scheduled JB update.
Since I rooted I know it is not going to let me update.
I actually tried to unroot once before and was unsuccessful.
I still show 0/1 and it will not let me do it for some reason.
In any case is it even worth it for me to do so?
Is JB going to give me anything that exciting that I would want to update?
If not i will just stay the way I have everything.
If so I will need to follow up to see if anyone can help me get unrooted so I can update.
Thanks in advance for any help.

This is the Razr M forum. You'll want to post this in the Razr Maxx forum. Different phones.

Need some help from the Droid people

I have friend that has a Droid X and she wants me to root it for her to help her with her battery life. I have a rooted HTC Inspire and it's crazy how much my battery has improved w/ rooting, custom ROMs, and using SetCPU. After looking around in your forums, I've noticed that even though they're both Android phones they are completely different in the wrold of how to root. I have a few questions and hope you can help me out.
1. What is easiest way to root? I see somethings about z4root, but not sure since it's no longer in the market. I have noticed that this phone is about 1,000 times easier to root than my Inspire was.
2. I see that you guys have no luck w/ ROM Manager. Why and what should I be using for the Droid. The guys in HTC and Inspire forums swear by ROM Manager and I've had nothing but luck with it.
3. Since there are dedicated webpages to the Droids, can I find more ROMs there as it seems there aren't as many choices here for the Droid X as there are in the Inspire forum.
Thank you for the help.
Is she running on Gingerbread? If so, there is currently no root method except to SBF to Froyo, root that with a tool such as z4root, then download and install a pre-rooted version of gingerbread available online.

The X is a relatively simple phone to work with as far as root is concerned. Like the previous poster said, if she has taken the latest update, you'll have a few extra steps, but its still pretty easy. As far as Rom Manager goes, it works great for the X, but you have to use the Droid X bootstrapper in order to use it successfully. The biggest factor for the X is that the boot loader is locked, so while we can run custom roms, we don't have the same freedom as other phones. Everything you need to know about rooting is pretty easy to find in these forums, so have fun.

As get as ROMs go can you guys point met in the direction of Blur based ones. I know she's going to want to keep it blur based because that's what she's used to.

imho i wasnt to fobd of the roms i found. i personally had to many probs, but thats my phone and im on cricket so i need the stock progmenu apks lol. but rubix was really good. and alot of ppl like. liberty w/blur. or u could try the prerooted gb. runs really nice. maybe u could get it working better than me lol.

I sbf back to froyo using rsdlite. Then I rooted using z4root, droid 2 bootstrapper, and flashed Liberty 2.0.1, which is a froyo build rom. Liberty is now in the early builds of a GB based version, but I hear it's buggy right now. 2.0.1 runs like a dream! It's about 20 times faster than my stock DX has EVER been, and I haven't had a reboot yet. I kept my launcher, Open Home 6 so I could keep the home screen settings like I had them, and I'm still using Widget Locker to keep my lock screen custom..
thx for the info. think i will check it out

Rooted gingerbread that took ota and still rooted but no recovery

Ok peeps. Here is the deal. I switched over from an evo to Verizon Droid x waiting on the galaxy s2. So kind of new, kind of not.
Here is my issue. I sbf'ed to froyo so I can gain root. Then back to a 596(?) Gingerbread and it worked great. Now... it took an ota and installed it. Not sure how, but it did. I kept the root (su permissions) but now it will not boot into clockwork recovery. I've used the ROM manager and dx boot logger program (sorry can't remember the exact name) and all it does is reboot, get the Motorola logo then blank screen. It sits for a while then I get impatient and pull the battery.
Any help would please be helpful.

Are you sure you're still rooted?
Have you had an app ask for superuser permissions?
If you have a terminal emulator, open it and type su to see if you get the #.
If you don't, you are no longer rooted.
Yes, I have had apps ask for permission. Like titanium, wireless tether, etc.

Milestone X root

Hi everyone I have a rooted evo and I've rooted and unrooted a couple times and I am very compfortable with flashing roms because I do it all the time. My boss has a milestone x and she wants me to root it for her. I was wondering if someone could give me a list of roms that are stable and work well on milestone x also hotspot working! Also is there an amonra recovery I can put on. If anyone has the files I will need to root that would be great. On my Evo I just unrevoke then flash amonra and a Rom and its in business. Is there a big change on how to root this? Thanks a lot Droidxers I really appreciate it!

I recently purchased a milestone x the gingerbreak app worked for me

I rooted mine using SuperOneClick root and it worked easily!
As for a working ROM I have read that it is a long process to make Droid X ROM's work with our APN's and it is possible to get stuck with Verizon's network so I haven't even tried it.
What I have done that has made the experience much different is install some apps and script's that 180'ed the stock ROM and make it feel like a completely different device.
Well this is what I did, I searched gingerbreak on 4shared . Com website, downloaded, open it, then press root. The root is successful when it turns off, if it doesn't work redownload another apk..
For the CMW recovory..I searched droid x bootstrapper, again on 4 shared..pressed bootstrap recovery, then reboot recovery.
Far as custom roms go its not many that work on Milestone X, Liberty 2.0.1 does with no tweakin..
Miui and Cm7 works with a script kernel tweak seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?nomobile=1&v=vxZ7cBt2K-Q you just have to delete the Verizon kernel script with notepad and save the changes..the exact tutorial is under "show more" under the video..that should work

I'm getting my Verizon Xyboard 8.2 on Monday. Where do I go to find root for ice cream sandwich? Thanks.

I had mine rooted before I took the update. The files I used were for honeycomb only. Im almost positive itll come with honeycomb out of the box. I cant remember exactly where I found it at. Just google how to root droid xyboard 8.2 and look around. Mine was a one click root. If you have android 3.2.2 on your xyboard when you get it root it before you take the ota for ics. Then download ota rootkeeper from the market to temp un root. Then take the ota and restore the root. Ill look on my computer and see if I still have the files and post if I do.

Use the razr404 method to root ICS on xyboard or u can use the adb restore exploit. Google with find both methods with instructions

Got my Xyboard 8.9 yesterday and rooted it today. Nice little tablet, can't wait for an over clocked kernel. Great accessories (dock and folio) make this much more useable than my Galaxy Tab 8.9. All in all I'm very pleased with everything.

Thanks! I've been looking for this.
And also thanks to the guys that talked about the root on an ICS-flavored XYboard.
Probably a bit controversial but I personally would recommend App2zip over titanium Backup.
A. It's free.
B. It packages your backup into a flashable zip you can flash right after installing the rom.
C. It's quite a bit faster both backing up and restoring than titanium.
The most important app for any rooted tablet is gmd gesture control... Try it. It will change the way you interact with your Tablet...
Downloaded gesture control and its amazing. So much quicker and easier to.navigate through everything

[Q] Superuser app still on phone when lost root

Hi, I have a xt912 Droid RAZR Maxx using 4.0.4 ICS and I used the root method that was provided here. I then went root app crazy and also installed the superuser.apk file with the Elite. I went and got clockwork mod touch installed after that, and when I did, the phone would say something like "system is upgrading" and after a while the custom front screen wouldn't work anymore and I lost root access. I since then did a FDR and everything except superuser left. I tried recovering the backup using recovery in fast boot, but it isn't showing as a choice from CWM. I used root checker and it says my phone is not rooted yet I can't uninstall the app only disable it. How do I take it off so I may re-root this phone later? I also used a backup from Titanium pro+root and it won't let me recover from that. Any help would be appreciated.

Not RAZR Maxx forum... This is for the RAZR M.
That said, if you did an RSD (assuming that's what you meant by FDR?), you're gonna need to do whatever you did in the first place to get root... No idea how, since I don't own a RAZR Maxx. You'd have better luck asking in the Maxx forum...

I can't find the maxx forum. I thought that this was the closest thing to it.

Of doesn't even matter. Just go to the app and click cleanup for permanent unroot. It will delete it. You aren't rooted but yes the app remains in an unfunctional state. Uninstall it like I said then do a factory reset(probably not needed but do it anyway. Keep it clean!)
And this is correct for ANY phone.
Sent from my XT907 using xda premium
There is no option for cleanup. All it has is disable and clear data. It won't let me uninstall it. Its like it became bloatware when I did a FDR
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
Cleanup would actually be in app, not in Android's app settings... Chances are tho, if you really have no root, cleanup will fail
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2
I guess I will have to reinstall the elite version again. Will let you know how it goes
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
Well I can tell you from experience that just cuz you have root apk does mot give you root. The thing is, whatever you did is something I have done before. I don't remember all but I do remember I regained root after doing it and both aps asked for superuser permissions.
Everything did work but I had both. Sorry bud, I can't remember what I did but I can tell you it was an easy fix.
