Galaxy S3 i9300 Unbrick [restore to stock rom] [noobs][easy] - Galaxy S III General

Hi guys! This is a noob-proof guide on how to flash stock samsung firmware on your i9300. Whether you have bricked it or just want the stock firmware back. Here's how to do it (detailed explaination)
WARNING! : This is only for the GT i9300 (international version) , Check your device before proceeding. Also you might lose all your data. So backup! i am not responsible if you brick your phone(although very unlikely) by not following the guide properly
Also you will lose your custom recovery, Custom ROM and will not longer have root
Ok lets begin!
1. Make sure you have the samsung drivers installed on your pc (http://bit.ly/SDaIIE)
2. Your device should have at least 80% battery left
3. Enable USB Debugging by going to Settings>Developer Options>Tick the Usb debugging tick box!
Files needed :
1. Android 4.1.2 I9300XXEMC3 for Galaxy S3 I9300 - http://www.hotfile.com/dl/202240205/4dcf384/I9300XXEMC3_I9300NEEEMC1_NEE.zip.html
2. Odin 3.07 - http://bit.ly/16aRzF4
Extract The firmware Zip file until you get a file with a .tar extension and some other files. Do not extract furthur
Extract odin zip file till you get Odin3 v3.07.exe
Now here comes the actual flashing part
1. Power off your smartphone. Wait 5-6 seconds for vibration to confirm complete switch off.
2. Now, get into Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Home and Power button simultaneously until Samsung Galaxy logo appears in phone screen. Wait few seconds and your phone will be in download mode.
3.Open odin as administrator and connect your s3 to your computer with usb cable
4. You will get a message "Added" in the message box in odin and You should also see COM port with a number in Yellow if you successfully added your device.
if you don't get this , try another usb port.. if it still doesn't come , reinstall drivers.
5. Select these files from I9300XXEMC3 folder in Odin at respective buttons:
Click the PDA Button, and select the .tar.md5 file here with *code* appearing in its name
Click the Phone Button, and select file with *modem* in its name (leave if there is no such file)
Click the CSC Button, and select file with *csc* in its name (leave if there is no such file)
Click the PIT Button, and select the .pit file. Use only if you got it while extracting , otherwise ignore it.
6. make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes are selected. Also, make sure that Re-Partition checkbox is selected, only if you are using a .pit file
7. Double check everything above and hit start!
8. once flashing is complete the phone will reboot automatically and soon you will see a PASS message with green background in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin. You can then unplug the USB cable to disconnect your device from computer.
After completing these steps, Make sure to wipe the cache and do a factory reset in clockworkmod recovery if you do happen to find yourself in a bootloop (phone rebooting continuously) Or just do it anyways to prevent a bootloop from occurring.
congrats! , you have just restored your i9300!
If this has helped you make sure to hit the thanks button!

Yes and no... You must reformat partitions and upload an ICS bootloader. Not for the regular user i'm afraid

This normally happens when the partitions on the embedded multi media card gets corrupted for whatever reason, also known as the emmc.
The phone can be revived by flashing a pit file to repartition the emmc in order so it can be written to.
Download and unzip this file and you will have a .pit file which you put in the tab marked PIT in Odin
GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit = Galaxy S3 of 16 Gb
GT-I9300_mx_20120322.pit = Galaxy S3 of 32 Gb
GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit = Galaxy S3 of 64 Gb
(Just google the one that you need and download it)
Next make sure > r partition, f /reset, and auto reboot are ticked in options in Odin.
Next put the stock rom in the tab marked PDA, if flashing a custom rom then flash a rooted kernel first in PDA together with the pit file, hit start and start the flashing process, afterwards this will also give you the option of flashing the rom from recovery, next, flash the custom rom from Odin or from recovery
When finished the phone should reboot and start up.

Last question.. does flashing the stock ICS firmware voids my warranty??

Thx

If it is an official ROM package, it shouldn't trigger yellow triangle.
Even in that case, you can use Triangle Away app from Chainfire and see how it comes to zero

EXACTLY, Ho coulld you do that when you have a bricked phone.

it doesn't matter if you can do it - it's as useless as changing the wallpaper before flashing

SGS caught in bootloop while flashing 2.3.6 from ICS Build 9

I have a problem unlike others, i m caught in a bootloop while flashing 2.3.6 from ICS Build 9 using odin, i had nothing better to do, serves me right, I can't go to recovery bcos my stupid ph is one of those that do not have the 3 button recovery.
After odin pass when i remove the usb it goes into installation but it says:
E: copy_dbdata_media:can't mount/dbdata. your storage not prepared. Please use menu for format and rebot actions.(I dun ve that option)
E:failed to mount/dbdata file exist
deleting file failed
updating failed
cache wipe failed
Applying multi csc. Installing multicsc
Can't access
Successfully applied multi csc
But the on reboot it goes into Samsung and bootanimation over n over
Any help appreciated Thanks!!
I ve also tried flashing other stock roms but the it does not reboot instead showing the connection between ph and pc sign. Thanks again
I thought everyone checked if 3 button recovery was working before taking a walk in the dark valley of flashaholics.
Tapatalked - There's a Thanks button somewhere
Why didn't you flash something to enable the 3 button recovery before flashing anything else? Flashing without the 3 button recovery is just asking for a huge headache and even a brick. Now you may have to resort to making/buying a USB JIG to get into download mode.

You need a 3 files ODIN rom , and before flashing make so you have PIT and repartitions , your problem is a minor problem ( because you don't repart the partitions, that's why it's bootlooping

After kies update i was able to go into download mode so that was why i was'nt too worried, my mistake was deleting the file of build 9 in the internal sd b4 i flashed the .6 otherwise when odin finished my phone was in recovery mode i could ve just install zip fr sd again. The problem that the state my ph is in i could not get anything into the sd not even fr pc. Only chance is tru odin, i suppose now i ve to look for firmware that i flash with repartition to wipe the files and data fr internal sd maybe that might do it.

When I messed my partition, I had to use ODIN. You will need four files:
1. PIT file
2. PDA
3. CSC
4. PHONE

[GUIDE] Downgrading from ICS to Gingerbread i9000

I write this guide to help you, since I've had problems downgrading from ICS to Gingerbread.
Things you need:
1. Samsung drivers
2. Stock Gingerbread firmware with individual files (including bootloaders) I used JVZ Firmware
3. Odin
Procedure:
1. Install Samsung Mobile Drivers
2. Open Odin
3. Get the phone to the Download Mode by pressing(VolumeDown+Home+Power) buttons and connect the phone to your PC (your phone should be recognized)
4. Select PIT (usually 512)
5. Select BOOTLOADER (APBOOT)
6. Select PDA (CODE)
7. Select PHONE (MODEM)
8. Select CSC (CSC)
9. If 'Re-Partition'is not checked under 'Option', check it.
10. Press the Start button
Note:
If you want to upgrade to a later firmware (eg JW6 - It has only one .tar file),
1. go to the Download Mode again select the file under PDA.
2. DO NOT select the PIT, BOOTLOADER, PHONE, CSC files.
3. DO NOT check 'Re-Partition'.
4. Press the START button.
Hope this post helped you.
Thanks!

Stuck!
Your posting is very timely! Wife's i9000 on CM9 is acting up (wifi loop, random rebooting, and low memory errors). So I want to downgrade to my nandroid back-up with CM 7.1 or at least fresh install CM 7.2. BUT I keep ending up with my back-up on top of CM 9 boot and then getting stuck with a boot loop.
I'm guessing I need to revert to a Gingerbread boot then I can restore the nandroid backup or then upgrade to CM 7.2. I read your posting but I'm not clear where I can get the needed bootloaders. Would be great if I could skip reinstalling stock and just go straight to CM 7 (whatever version) as then I wouldn't have to reunlock the bootloader.
Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
The problem could be the version of CWM... both are v5? they said that nandroid backup of cwm 3 have some issues on cwm 5 (CM9 comes with cwm5).

adding the bootloader, imho isn't necessary. personally I never use them, just PDA+MODEM+CSC.
512.PIT is mandatory (yaffs2 -> rfs) , GB bootloader won't do any harm.
In case the update sequence was Froyo -> ICS, downgrade to GB will require GB bootloader.
Hi
ive download a stock odin rom from http://www.sammobile.com
but the file does not contain a PIT file
can some one please post one that i can use
im currently running the remICS rom and want to flash the latest rom for my country that ive download from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=4643
thanks
here: Odin + pit
same package as sammobile, w/o zip-password.
has 3 pit files, use pit-512 only!
ive download 2 diffrent stock odim roms but when i flash them i just get boot loops
both of the roms ive downloaded contain the one tar file so i flash it per OP
but i just get reboots so i have to reinstall the ics rom
can some one post a link to a GB rom that has all of pit, bootloader, pds, phone and csc in the one file
thanks

Thanks man, brilliant guide. Helped me a lot.
As I was busy I couldn't reply to all posts but I am happy this helped you all.
Do we really need a repartition ?
Can we downgrade from ICS to GB without this ?
Most of the forum suggest not to do that as it can lead to hard brick.

Do you have any better option to switch from ext4 to rfs?
Odin + PIT 512 + repartition prepare partition layout for Samsung stock ROM using rfs.

Thanks...
what if i am on a custom ROM like CM9,are the steps the same to going back to stock?
CM9 = ICS = Android 4.0.4

[SOLVED] My Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360 won't start

Hello everybody
My friend has a Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and since yesterday it won't start. It shows "Samsung Galaxy Y young" and doesn't start. So I decided to try to root it and install Jellyblast v3 but it's the same problem. I followed a tutorial and tried to wipe cache and data but still the same problem. So now I read that the people who had the same problem as me, resolved their problem by flashing the stock rom with odin. But I saw that we needed some information like PDA, PHONE and CSC but I can't have these informations as the phone won't start So I am going to follow a tutorial to flash it with odin. But I'm worried about bricking definitely her phone :s So I want to know if there is no risk to brick her phone if I try to flash a stock rom without knowing these information (PDA PHONE CSC).
Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad english °° !!

you installed cwm how?
there is only to types of cwm for galaxy y
1 - tempory cwm zip - flashed in stock recovery to give you cwm - this zip must be flashed each time you enter recovery to bring up cwm
2 - perminant cwm - this is included in a custom kernel and replaces stock kernel and stock recovery with a custom kernel and recovery
if you flashed a kernel state which one it was
to use odin
download odin 3.07
download and install samsung usb drivers
put phone in download mode by pressing vol down home button power button until download screen appears

wait for drivers to install
open odin

wouldnt work though if you changed your file system to ext to use cm7/9/cyanmobile/pa
you can only restore a nandroid backup fully if you restore it on the kernel on which it was made and you are on the same file system as it was made although you can advanced restore if on different kernel and should work if it can verify md5 sum

[Q] Unusual s4 brick help

Forgive my noobishness. I've actually lurked xda boards for years and used the EXCELLENT user made guides for all my phones. However, I'm at a complete loss and nothing I've searched, read, or tried has worked and it's consumed my entire day and left me with no phone at all. I cannot believe this phone can be dead unless there's some physical problem so I'm really hoping someone can walk me back to normal.
I bought a new S4 from T-Mobile on Labor Day (obviously I'm in the US). 2 days ago I rooted it successfully using Jimmy Mcgee's video and the various links including mattlgroff's and k0nane's threads. No problems whatsoever. After I did that I used Ti Backup and backed up the apps just in case, then I ran the moderate version of the Truly Clean script and did a factory reset. Everything was perfect. Then...
My wireless data stopped connecting. But that's not my current problem.
I decided to unroot and go back to factory to a) see if something I did was causing the data issue or b) take it back for an exchange at the store. I started with the K0nane and the Samersh72 guides, but frankly tried so many things and failed I don't know were I went wrong. First I tried M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_M919UVUAMDL_HOME.tar.md5
Then I tried Samsung-Updates.com-KERNEL-SGH-M919-TMB-M919UVUAMDL-1366964131.tar
Then I tried the one I did to root it OUDHS-Recovery-jfltetmo-1.0.3.3.tar
Mostly I have gotten a NAND writing fail in Odin with everything I tried (yes I tried making sure Kies is off, the original usb cable, and another PC) which then locks me out of the recovery boot screen and gives me some yellow triangle between a phone and a pc with an error about the stock firmware and tells me to connect to Kies. I can fix that by flashing this PIT file CSB_signed_Fusion3_EUR_0325_V2.pit which allows me to go back to the OUDhs recovery screen.
Also Kies will no longer connect to this device and it says driver install failure when I connect it to the PC (except it stell charges, using the stock cable still).
Dear god someone help me, and I will buy you a beverage. I'm doing instant email notifications of replies. PLEASE.
I'm not sunk yet. I'm rereading the FAQs and guides and I'm going to start over to where I was able to get the rooted version to work. I know the CWM recovery is working so we'll see.
Pull out battery for a while, then go to download mode (vol down+home+power) and flash stock fw in odin.

Ok I will try that. Also I am now trying to flash Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-M919-TMB-M919UVUAMDL-1366964131\M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_M919UVUAMDL_HOME.tar.md5
I am getting a little farther in the Odin process but it still says fail right after
aboot.mbn
Also I originally followed Jonny's video and only flashed the cwm custom recovery though odin. I flashed the rooted zip file from my phone's internal sd card like in the video. Now I can't get to the internal memory so I tried saving the zip file (the one I used to root it) on the ext sd card. I'm unable to flash that rooted zip from the ext sd card because the phone wants to reboot as soon as it starts doing so.
Is there a way to flash that rooted zip file (or a stock one) from an external sd card?
Is there a way to flash that rooted zip file through odin?
All you have to do is get into download mode and flash stock mdl tar with odin. After it's finished, it'll go into recovery by itself and wipe some small cache partition by itself, after it does that, hold onto the volume up button and get into recovery again and do a factory reset. This is so you don't go into a bootloop. Now get CF auto root and flash it so ur rooted. Next flash a custom recovery and ur all set. It's really easy to do.

So far I have been totally unable to get odin to flash a stock tar or any tar since I did the first one 2 days ago. Always, fail.

Yes. Also when it fails, it locks me out of the recovery mode. Can you tell me what happens when you flash a new PIT file? Doing that alone does not get a FAIL message and it brings back the recovery screen. However, when I select the pit file it automatically selects the re-partition option which the k0nane says is a no-no (at least for flashing the pda, not sure about the pit which is why I'm asking).

Pit file basically means repartitining the storage chip of your device. Yes odin will automatically check repartition when flashing pit files. Flashing pit file is serious business. I recommend following the unbrick/ unroot thtead in the general section. Its pretty precise and I think since you are getting repeated fails in odin you will have to flash pit file.
You will be fine if you follow the instructions there precisely.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
OMG it worked. K0nane's procedure worked on a different pc. Dowloaded a fresh Kies but didn't install any of the extra stuff with it. Downloaded, extracted, and ran odin as admin. Hooked it up. Downloaded and extracted the UVUAMDL tar. Put that in the pda box and hit start. Mine would immediately FAIL but this one kept working, and working, and working and reboote. Why why why? I've been at this for about 16 hours. That makes no sense. Thanks anyway. I'll try the other root method when I'm feeling brave again.

I messed up - No OS installed! (TWRP)

Hi all,
I had rooted my note 4 and have TWRP installed a while ago. Been using my phone for ages without installing custom ROMS, but recently it's been restarting every once in a while.
So I went into recovery mode and factory data reset my device to start fresh (of course backing up all my data with Tit Backup beforehand).
But me being the cleverclogs went into Wipe -> Advanced Wipe and selected all the boxes thinking it will do a proper cleanout (Dalvik/ART Cache, System, Data, Internal Storage, Cache, Micro SDCard). But when I try to reboot it there's a msg saying "No OS installed! Are you sure you wish to power off?". When restarting the phone it just goes back to TWRP!
It's on it's last legs already but still it's my main phone. How can I install the stock ROM or I might even try custom ROMS (any recommendations?). I haven't installed a custom ROM since the S3 days so I'm a complete noob agian.
Thanks for your help.
Copy a ROM on your MicroSD using a card reader and insert it on the phone or restore using Kies.

Ok thanks.
How do I use TWRP to install it?
Is there any links to Note 4 latest stock ROM (Marshmallow I believe).

You can try a Note 7 port, you can choose Racerom or Enhanced rom (if you have N910F model, for others models i don't know)...personally i have racerom v9 installed.
You just need to copy it to your internal memory flasht it, reboot to download mode and install the latest bootloader and modem with Odin, reboot and it's done....you need to search it for BL and modem here on XDA, it's not difficult.
If you choose to install a stock rom, remember you'll loose TWRP and root, everything it's replaced. Yo need to use Odin too.
Nothing to worry about bro. This forum will get your phone all set up and working.
At this point you have two choices
1. Flash stock samsung firmware (download the ***correct one*** according to you phone's model no from https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/. Flash it using Odin. Look up the procedure to flash firmware on note 4 using Odin. Its pretty straightforward. (Make sure you do NOT select the PIT section. Dont ask what it is, just remember its the most risky section and could permanently brick your phone... It is marked properly in the Odin tool so the chances of mistakes are very low)
Note that after flashing a custom ROM you will lose your Root and TWRP. (You can get both back later anyways.)
2. Flash a custom rom using your existing TWRP recovery. If you have samsung note 4 android drivers installed on your pc, then as soon as you boot into TWRP, you can just connect the phone to the PC via a cable and access its internal storage from there. Download one of the countless good samsung note 4 roms (again, check your phone model before you download) from this forum. Copy it to internal storage. If needed, download OpenGApps package and copy it to the internal storage as well. Then using TWRP, *install* the Rom package. Remember, the Rom takes 7-10 minutes to boot up after install so dont worry. Also you phone might heat up in this while. If it gets too hot, then maybe something is wrong... remove the battery and let it cool down. Then figure out if you have the right rom or not. Else download another Rom.
Once you have access to the storage, you could choose to install any of the custom ROMS available
Remember, there are many variants of the note 4 sold across different geographical locations. Before you download any firmware/rom, be sure to check if it matches the phone you have. Read through the Rom threads carefully. if needed, ask questions.
You'll be up and running very soon.
All the best!

Sorry to answer your question with a question but why if you have twrp installed on your phone would you even mess with Titanium Backup?..also always keep a copy of a twrp backup on a extra SDCard of thumb drive...twrp in my opinion is the best thing available for backup and restore over Tit Backup or Samsung kias..spelled the wrong
Just so you know, you no longer have a titanium backup of your phone , unless you backed up online....
That went when you formatted the sd card so it will be a total restock.
In case you didn't realise...

Went to the website and downloading this one https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note4/SM-N910F/VOD/download/N910FXXS1DQE5/169965/ (Seems my Note 4 is SM-N910F according to an earlier post I made). It's about 2 gigs.
Will follow the instructions at the bottom of that page to install it.

I did copy my Tit backups to my PC before formatting it
I didnt take the time to read the post above but if you saved your backups on a PC I hope you're talking about your twrp back ups... if so transfer them onto an SD card put it in your phone and restore through team win you're good to go.... as far as a custom ROM for your phone as you probably already know all ROMs are just a preference no ROM is better than the other however my two favorite ROMs for this phone which I am back to lollipop would be Maximum Overdrive and the one I'm running now ...TEKXous hibrid n4... and I've basically installed every single custom ROM available for the T-Mobile Note 4 on marshmallow and on lollipop
Well after I downloaded the firmware and installed it with Odin following this guide:
Instructions
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.12.7
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v3.12.7
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes
I get this error in Odin:
https://ibb.co/gVrsdF
https://ibb.co/hmREsa
Now when I try turn my phone on in Recovery mode or try to start normally I get a black screen, in the top left:
ODIN MODE (HIGH SPEED)
PRODUCT NAME: SM-N910F
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
REACTIVATION LOCK: OFF
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0X1 (2)
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (CSB)
AP SWREV: S1, T1, R1, A1, P1
SECURE DOWNLOAD : ENABLE
UDC START
In the middle of the screen there's a msg:
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
I hope my phone isn't bricked! :crying:
Help! :crying::crying:
Note: Download mode still works.
Ok inless im misunderstanding you that the problem....when u flash with odin you want to be in down load mode...thats what you just described. ..you want to pull the battery then replace it and its power + home button and vol down.at the same time...when the first creen come on plug ur phone into the pc the push vol up and that will take you to down load mode and odin will recognize ur device...i think you have been trying to flast wile in recovery?...sorry if im misunderstanding you and if not then you should have it now...

Do you have the correct device drivers? They're needed in order to Odin recognize your phone.
Also, you need to delete the ".md5" extension, it only end in tar extension
Or you can try another Odin version...i'm using Odin 3.10.7
its realy realy hard to brick a samsung phone^^
might be the usb cable. also may need to get the pit file and try with a NAND ERASE ALL & repartition. BE SURE AND PUT THE PIT FILE ON CSC
So while I'm No Odin expert, I think that this Odin flashing process has many dependencies.
People have encountered wierd errors with Odin and they were resolved even when the person just chose to use an original Cable (or another) Cable.
samsung drivers are very very crucial. I think you may be able to find them by searching for Galaxy note 4 Odin drivers (they basically come with Kies I think but not sure)
also very important to have kies turned OFF while you're flashing through Odin
make sure you have at least 80percent or more battery when you flash.
theres also some other stuff you need to be careful of that you should look up on Google.
there's a thread on Odin flash troubleshooting on xda...icant remember the name but you should be able to just Google it.
also Google for the exact error message you seen on Odin.. remember there are bound to be other users who have seen the same issue... so you may be able to find a solution via google
And most importantly don't worry, you'll be good soon.
edit: As far as possible don't mess with the Pit files. they're very risky if you don't know what you're doing .

I googled the error msg looked like I needed a PIT file since the Note 4 is 32GB. I also used an earlier version of ODIN and redownloaded the firmware (not branded)...and after a few goes it worked!
I'm back on stock firmware.
Thanks everyone! :good:
