L7 questions - Optimus L3, L5, L7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife ordered the l7 unlocked. Does this phone take the regular size Sim card? Also, what your thoughts on the l7? We had a heck of a time choosing her first smartphone and just wanted to know if this is a good phone. Seems good to me.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2

The phone expects and works with a regular-size SIM card.
I think it's a very nice device, esp. for a lady and at its price - would definitely buy it again.

Thanks jtru. For the price point specs can't be beat besides nexus 4. My wife don't need anything up to date speed wise when she will use it for occasional facebook., texting, and browsing.

Thinking of upgrading to the GTI9020T

I just saw that my local best buy is offering the nexus s for free with 2 year contract renewal. I have an htc aria now and really like the size it's is perfect and it's a great phone but with what appears to be the end of the road for cm7 and a lot of uncertainty about cm9 for the aria I was wondering what some of your opinions are about the nexus s. Things that stand out to me are that even though it has a 480x800 the phone still seems to be quite small in comparison to some of the other monsters out there the phone seems to be well supported here on xda. I know it only has 16gb of internal memory with no external sd card but that's not a deal breaker for me I have 16gb card now and am no where close to running out of space. I know the phone is older and does not have a duel processor or 4g but free is very tempting. Anyways I respect the opinion of many of you here so wanted some of your opinions.
its worth it, i love my NS, ICS is great as well. there are a tons of roms here, lots of support, i dont have any issues, battery is great too.
Do it. Trust me. I've never been happier with a phone.

Ditto, great phone and tons of dev support.
By far the best phone I have ever owned, but get a good screen protector as it can scratch easily!
Thanks everyone for your input and yes staying with att best buy must have the wrong model number listed and as far as screen protectors I always have had inv. shield on just about every phone I've owned so that would be top of the list. So the phone is handling ics well I gather from your comments as well.

Urr I wouldn't get a nexus s on a 2 year contract, in maybe a year this phone may become out dated, if you can get it get the GN
Sent from my ice cream powered Nexus S
ditto darkshadow.
Can't you get a GN or a G2 and pay a little for the handset or wait for a few months till these handsets are cheaper?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Well the GN isn't available through att as far as I know and the g2 is a little pricy for me at 199 or 249 depending on the model. So maybe waiting to see if they come down in the next couple of months would be option. Thanks for your opinions.
Sent from wherever I am?
Not that I don't rate the NS or anything, I have just bought the phone and think its wicked. But the hardware is 16 months old already.
Is there no way you can get the NS on a 12 month contract but pay a little more each month, then in a year get the GN for free?

so long... best wishes to atrix 4g community

hi all. last night i flashed cm10 (epinter). loved it for an alpha. but than today i went to the mall cause my wife wanted to buy some stuff, meanwhile i passed my time to bestbuy mobile. she was eligible for an upgrade device. and i discovered that i could trade my beloved atrix 4g for a value of 150$. long story short I added 50$ (+36$ activation fee for att suckers) and ended up with the SGS3. bigger and better finally true.
almost a year with atrix 4g have been amazing. would never forget the first bootloader unlock, the first cm7 flash, the first miui emotions... cm9 and cm10 last night. thank you very much all the developers and testers all the community.

You're gonna love the GS3. I upgraded about 3 weeks ago. Screen, speed, and ICS are awesome. Touchwiz is also much better than Motoblur (although I've already started using Nova as my launcher).
That said, my daughter is loving the Atrix and lapdock that I handed down to her. Such an awesome phone that I couldn't part with it as long as someone in my family could use it.
There are a few areas however that the Atrix still beats the GS3. The Atrix bluetooth radio is better. Hooks up faster to my car, and has significantly better range with my headphones at the gym. The cell radio on my GS3 also flips between 3G and Edge more than the Atrix did (sorry, no LTE in my area yet). Also, I'm sad to say that the Atrix has better battery life too.
So, bottom line is that the GS3 is an awesome phone (really love the camera too), but the Atrix still holds its own for an older phone. Gotta love all the choices we have with Android!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Our company has 4 atrix's... 2 are stock blur and 2 are ics/jb and afaik there are a lot less dropped calls/freezing/glitching on the stock blur roms than the experimental kangs. The only complaints with android 4 is the camera problems! I sure wish motorola would hurry up and release ICS or a lot more people are going to jump ship.
I know I'm eyeing the SGS3. Itis pretty much guaranteed to get updated CM builds., I don't give two craps about Touchwiz, though. The only thing holding me back is that, specs wise, it's not a huge upgrade from the Atrix. So I keep thinking it's probably not worth the upgrade cost.

The GS3 is too big for my liking. Even my SGSII I wish would have a smaller form factor sometimes as well. Atrix with a TPU Case IMO is the perfect size for a cell phone.
If the next Nexus phone has the same size as the Atrix, plus had MicroSD support. Oh man... Yeah that would hold me over for a LONNNNNG time...

You can always sell on eBay or Amazon. That'll net more than a bestbuy trade in

And on another note, the atrix is by far the "crappiest" phone on the market. You're obviously not familiar with the Motorola flipside that att STILL sells but can't even get a proper recovery and is forced to stay completely stock, although rooted, if you want a proper working phone.

when i went to bestbuy mobile i had jellybean (epinter) rooted and bootloader unlocked. they couldn't believe their eyes.
i asked them if there will be any difference if the atrix was unlocked. they said NO!
I must say that I actually bought the atrix from them, so they searched for the receipt on their system and found it.
dont know if atrix 4g bought elsewhere can be trade in on bestbuy mobile.

[Q] Using nexus 4 without cellular service?

Hey all,
I debating on getting a Nexus 4 (when they are available again), but I want to use the device without signing up for cellular service, you know no data plan and voice plan. I know this is probably ridiculous because most people buy a phone to use it as a phone, but I don't want a phone and don't want to place my money into restrictive apple products (e.g., ipod touch). So can I buy the phone without signing up for prepaid or contract services? I don't need to activate the phone if I'm not using it as a phone, right, thus turning the phone into a ipod touch (but better than the ipod). Has anyone successfully done this?
Cheers,
Dillweed

I am almost in the same boat as you are. I am trying to get the Nexus 4 as a complete android device for the possible feartures/uses of such a device. I will be using it for a phone but I will be using it as a wifi phone with Groove IP. The Nexus 4 is the only small device to have such a good screen and the android experience with such a fantastic price. I have been doing a lot of research and I am totally convinced that I will be able to use the Nexus 4 without a sim card so no carrier at all. Glad to see someone else thinking the same way.
Have you considered buying Nexus 7 instead? It's pocket able. You will be saving 100 dollars.

I've thought about getting a Nexus 7, but I want something that I can easily fit into my pocket. Like I said before, I'm currently using an ipod touch, but I don't like the restrictive nature of iOS. The Nexus 4 seems like the best phone out there right now that is unlocked and can be purchased without a contract.

It is. The phone can definitely be used as an iPod Touchesque device, but with a bigger screen, Android, etc.
The thing is, do you want to sacrifice the ability to put in your pocket (not portability) for much larger screen, cheaper pricetag, and larger storage?
Technically, you would be using the Nexus 4 as a tablet, so why not get a Nexus 7 instead?
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
In addition to that.. Why not just jailbreak your iPod and save some money?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I'm hesitant to get the Nexus 7 because it's just easier to carry a smaller device.
And yea, my ipod is jailbroken. I've had for a couple of years now and it's time to upgrade and give the ipod to the kids. I'm not in the market for more apple products, yes they are well built and reliable. I could get a new ipod for the same amount of money and 32gb of space. But then I'm dependent on the devs getting out a jailbreak. It seems that as time goes on the jailbreaks are getting longer to be released after a new iOS is put out. So I wonder how much longer jailbreaking can go on. Yea, everything is hackable, it just takes time. I really like the development of Android and one of the big reasons I would like to get a Nexus 4.
In the end, I really just wanted to know if use of the phone is possible without a contract from a service provider. So, thanks all for the information.
tldr on a lot of this. I wanted to throw a suggestion out there thought. The Samsung Galaxy Player. It's kinda like a smartphone, without the phone.

Nexus 4 worth the wait (or get S2x?)

So, I would have gotten the N4, I have been waiting months now and now am kind of going to give up.
I can get a S2x for $280 Canadian all in, new and paid for..
I would love to wait for the n4 to be instock, I would get it after my big trip to asia that I will require a good mobile internet device. I also find i like to have a couple of spare batteries when I go boating for gps or hiking and other things like this where it is nice to have a backup full battery for emergency use.
I am also very hard on phones as I use them for work, i have to whip it out constantly rain or shine, and they get dropped often, so I will be upgrading from a very tough device, 9700 blackberry that has falled on cement at least 50 times or more, also been ran over by a car, dropped in water twice, and used in wet weather constantly.
I just want a fast and cheap device, either phone will cover that, but I wonder what one will be the toughest ?
Yeah I don't know why Google is encouraging the closed system phone (You can't open the battery or anything), that's what I hate about the iPhone.
The Nexus 4 is still a good phone, but if you go hiking or on trips frequently, I wouldn't suggest it as your battery may die when you need it the most.
How ever, it's not hard to carry an old phone with you (A Brickphone), to use when your Nexus 4 dies.
You can find those old crappy phones for like $15 on Craigslist
If you often drop your phone then I'd avoid the Nexus 4 if I were you!
Battery life isn't great either. And the camera sucks imho. And storage is tight. I'm starting to have some regrets about mine now if I'm perfectly honest.

Did some tests yesterday comparing against friends HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3 and my old Xperia arc S. My Nexus 4 camera was by far the worst of the bunch, especially indoor shots. Outside in bright conditions it's not bad. I've taken a lot of pictures with mine now and am generally unhappy with the quality. Focus seems to be a real problem (hopefully this can be rectified with a s/w fix) but detail is lacking and images look washed out in comparison with other devices.
The 2011 Xperia arc S camera blows the Nexus 4 one away. I guess I was spoilt with that device.
I waited from nov 13 to 29 for mine and love it.

How much would you spend?

I'm not going to bother whether you'd still buy one or not...I think i know the answer
I had been leaning HEAVILY toward an ipad mini as my first tablet.
Talk me out of it
I'd prefer to stay with android so I can root and have all my apps and the things I know and love.
However, I just haven't found a form factor that i like. The 16:10 is just too skinny on the 7" IMHO.
Then i found out about this 7.7 and I'd love to have one.
I actually only need the wifi version but that looks harder to come by??
I'm on ATT. On the GSM version, can I just take my sim out and use it for data in the tablet?
Besides those questions, how would you pay for your tablet if you had to purchase it today?
I'd pay the $350 a ipad mini would cost me.
However, the ones I see are $450+

The pictures is this ebay ad show the 6800...
you see the green telephone icon in the lower left??
The 6810 doesnt have that..
"IF" you get the 6800.. then YES, you can move your ATT sim card there and BAM! An exact duplicate of your smart phone and it's features...
including phone calls, receiving phone, send and receive TXT messages and mms.. everything your existing smart phone does.. same phone number..
it all followes your sim card.
I do it and many others on here do it too..
BUT, you cant do it with the 6810 or Verizons version..
they dont have sim card slots... good luck
6810 is wifi.
6800 is wifi+3g
Sch-i815 is VERIZON wifi+LTE
As stated earlier, you can have wifi AND full phone functionality with the 6800 with your at&t sim.
Don't get the i815 unless you have service with Verizon or unless you plan to use it for wifi only. You can only get data service (phone functionality is disabled) with the Verizon i815 if you have a Verizon account on the stock rom only.
If you want to use cyanogenmod or aosp roms please note that our tab shares most of its internal hardware with the international galaxy s2 and international galaxy note, which means full jelly bean butter is not functional until Samsung releases the right source.

I paid $400 for mine... New from Verizon a few months ago and I still think it's worth it. The iPad mini isn't really a consideration for me, even for $50 less.
But I think the 7.7 is pretty close to perfection.
I had p6800 from end of January. Then at the beginning of December, I broke the screen and needed to decide what replacement devicebto take. I liked Ipad Mini for form factor and casing. But ultimatelly the iOS and poor specifications put me off. Nexus 7 3G is nice but the screen is too small. Anything that is 8.9 inch or larger is too large for me. So I bought another p6800. It is significantly better than the original as it does not suffer from yellowish discoloration of the screen which the original had. I think there is still no competition for p6800 out there (if you don't care for high computing / video generating power but you need smallndevice with good /though somehow dark/ screen and battery life).

Well, I decided to bite for $250. Versus the Nexus 7 that I have for $200, the extra $50 is worth it to me for the screen alone. I'm not going to be using data so I don't care about Verizon vs. AT&T etc. concerns.
