VERY work in progress. Wifi works flakily use an open network to play with the keyboard tends to freak out when typing in a network password.
This is a PREVIEW of what this platform will become. It is not finished. Many apps are just placeholders. The good news the system image is built and you can just plug in new ubuntu images as they become available.
to install latest daily (as of 03/23/13)
Reboot into Recovery
Backup! - expect everything to be deleted if you do not.
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset) This is required!
Flash system image
Flash Ubuntu image
Flash Layout fix
Reboot
To reverse the process use adb reboot recovery - or hold power off button till it shuts down then restart in recovery - yes it's obnoxious but the reboot and power off commands are absent from ubuntu still. Once back in recovery wipe and flash a replacement android rom and you'll be back to normal.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS DO NOT FLASH THIS IF YOU CAN'T RTFM.

I be following your progress then good work !

I figured you would do this but I still can't find a good reason to run it. Nothing works (which is the nature of this not your fault). lol

yeah I have issues ... it will get better as they improve userland. They're moving to a raring base soon and hopefully some of the blanks will be filled in

After this gets to a more stable state for the A500 would someone be able to port it to the A200?

wifi is up

Raw speed
Hey Randomblame,
You keep me amazed by the speed at which you are able to get these new iterations running on our 2 year old machine. If anything it has re-validated to my what a good purchase the A500 was. Its developers like you that have made me a huge open source convert and I look forward for t he day when OS's will be device agnostic.
Thanks again for the effort behind this port and hope to see the platform emerge.

OP updated with download links and instructions.

I wouldn't recommend it this uses a massive chunk of the /data partition and its not really something to be used as much as it is something to be toyed with

can we repartition fs to use separate /data for android and Ubuntu?

He does it again, that ol' randomblame! So, any cautions on backing up and restoring, or is it just like an other Android ROM? I assume there's always APX mode to fall back on in case of catastrophe.

So's mine bud kids are heartless lol I need to install a touch recovery my volume buttons are done for. Its a pretty easy process I can walk you through the build if you want.

randomblame, I'm developing for another Tegra 2 device, and I"m stuck at a black screen. How long did yours take to boot? Was there any other changes you made?

I'm stuck on the black screen too

Luckily Ubuntu touch still supports adb and logcat for debugging - a black screen isn't exactly something I can trouble shoot read your logs I'm sure the issue will become apparent.

well...
Is it fast and smooth enough to have some FUN with it?
Anyway, Good Job on porting ubuntu touch on our a500! I was really eager to hear about your excellent jelly bean port, so I downloaded it and
flashed it immediately.

Build-Script
Linux Only!
******************
!!!THIS IS SEPARATE FROM ROM!!!
-------------------------
Will only change the system folder YOU modified into system.sqsh
It is a pretty simple straight forward script that does what is says. First click on script and then click display, then on the first line put the dir of the ported system folder: like so
1
example
Code:
cd /home/jamezelle/desktop/hero
next on the second to last line
2
Code:
#put your login name after chown
sudo chown jamezelle ./system.sqsh
ie jamezelle
3
Make sure you use Run in terminal
if not root terminal will ask for password, dont worrry it doesnt save it or anything
ver 2
now tells you what its doing!!!! also will atempt to make directory /mnt/system if not already created
Does anyone find the Build-Script useful??
Disclaimer: i am not responsible for anything if you use this!
but it does save time !!!!!!!!!
If it doesnt execute, right click>properties>permissions tab>check 'allow executing file as program'
I Hope this helps some of you
My first released rom is up! fast and stable thanks zen, maxisma and drizzy
i was looking at that the other day. looks nice.
I'm confused about the whole build-script thing. I'm supposed to download your system.sqsh, extract it, run your build script on it which will convert it to ext2, then back to squashfs again?
Or have you just included the build script as a completely separate tool that we don't actually need to run on your system.sqsh?

It takes a while to start up but it does go through using 320x480... really nice looking ROM... although I still have the same issues I had with the other Hero ROM's - 3+ rings before the phone actually rings.
Yeah it took about 15 mins to boot up...no data img needed. Looks GREAT and everything works very well. Smooth and quick. Easily on of my favs. Good work. Thanks!
i see i'll give it another try again then. thx.

CMod 4.1.999 has slowed my phone to a halt

I was running a G1 with Cyanogen Mod 4.04, Cyanogen Recovery 1.2. I updated to Recovery 1.4, installed the 1.6 .img, installed Cyanogen Mod 4.1.999, ran the fix permissions command in console, and rebooted. It is SOOO slow. Takes between 15 seconds and 1 minute for any button press or screen touch to be recognized. It is completely unusable. I have found a few posts about this, but nothing offered a concrete solution.
I have since done a wipe in console, and reflashed Cyan 4.1.999. It didn't fix anything.
My SD card is properly formatted for apps2sd, as it worked fine in Cyan 4.04.
Any ideas?
try a task manager and see what is running in the background
try ending programs that may be chewing up memory
set up a swap
What do you mean by set up a swap? My SD card already has a main partition, an ext3 partition and a linux swap partition.
you made no mention of your sd partitions
something is most likely hanging up your memory which is why i said check with a task manager
you can always try flashing the adp again and then cyan
when i first went to cy's i had to do that
I'll try the task manager. Based on how slow it is, it may take me a few hours to get it installed.
i got a quick idea, try shutting off your phone, pull out your sd and try rebooting without it and see what happens without apps2sd going
update to ext3 if you are not already
delete your dalvik-cache if you are upgrading from a previous rom and didn't wipe
huh, did you not read his posts, he has ext3 and he has wiped
Don't know if it would make any difference, but maybe try to install HTC and 4.1.99 and then just flash .999 over the top of that.

The fact of the matter is that it simply is DEAD SLOW.
His development process is taken from the MS-developers-handbook.... just keep on shovelling on the bloat, and every once in a while release a new version and CLAIM that it is faster than the last, even when it is slower.
Then you get all the little kiddies, who update with every new version, each of which makes no appreciable difference, BUT because the release notes SAY it is faster, and the fact that they can't really tell, the placebo effect tells them that it IS faster. They keep doing this... several times, so the cumulative placebo effect tells them that it *must be WAY faster*, except that with every new version it actually becomes slightly SLOWER, so after MANY MANY "upgrades", what you turn out to have is something FAR FAR slower than the original.
Just to get a feeling for the differences, try out a stock cupcake build, then try FOUR CM cupcake builds that are evenly spaced out (in order), then again try the stock cupcake build. Then try the stock donut build.
If you want a fast donut that supports apps2sd, etc., and doesn't have the insane bloat, take a look at this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538456
This ROM is a simple rooted ADP1 donut base, with an "expansion pack" -- from which you can pick and choose the extra features you need/want so as to end up with a system that is optimized to YOUR needs, rather than just packing in everything including the kitchen sink and claiming it is the best thing ever.

[PROGRAM] Infiniflash v1.2 ~ It makes life easier.

The purpose of this program is to make my life easier when developing on the Android Platform. At he same time it may also make your life easier. I would like to keep this project totally open source and I include all of the source files withing the .zip that it comes in. What does this program do? It will allow you to flash custom ROMs straight from your computer, fast and hassle-free.
In this new version, I have done a ton of error/big fixes, rewrote quite a lot, and finally added wiping functionality. Enjoy!
Infiniflash REQUIRES that your device has ClockworkMod Recovery or any recovery that supports /cache/recovery/extendedcommand.
By the way, if you can think of a better name/icon for this program, please, please, please tell me.

I have a DHD as well and had the same issue. You must install the driver for it to work on your device.
1) Visit this link to download and install HTC Sync (which contains the driver): http://goo.gl/P3ZP1
2) After installation plug your device in.
3) To verify you have the driver, open the Infiniflash folder, hold the shift key and right click on the tools folder. Click open command prompt.
4) Now type in the command: adb devices
5) If your device showed up, it worked! Otherwise, try restarting or syncing your phone in HTC Sync, it should start working eventually.
6) Now that you have the driver, Infiniflash will *hopefully* work from now on.
Best of luck
Cheers.

By wiping to ext3 & ext4 do you mean formatting the /system partition to one of those formats? If so I might be able to implement it or make an add-on . By the way, which device requires you to do that? I've never heard of that before... are you sure it's a requirement?
Oops Double Post.

Thank you very much! I think I'll port it over soon, but the only bad part about that is that I have no idea how to make GUI's in Linux so it would be command line only .
It's funny that you mention that though because I'm a Linux user myself and never really thought about it.

[Windows] RegawMOD Rebooter 1.3 | Updated 01.21.13

Description
RegawMOD Rebooter is a Windows System Tray application designed for one purpose: To reboot your connected Android devices!
I originally created this last night for my brother (dwizzy130 here on xda), but I decided to release it here as well
RegawMOD Rebooter utilizes my .NET Android communication API AndroidLib.
What it does
Reboots your connected Android device normally, to recovery, to the bootloader, or shuts it down.
Usage
Double-click the "RegawMOD Rebooter" executable from anywhere on your computer.
The RegawMOD icon will appear in your system tray.
Right click the icon to get a menu, and select which type of reboot you want!
It will stay in your tray until the "Exit" menu option is selected.
In the Settings menu, you can choose a Default Override device.
If specified, and there is more than one device plugged in,
RegawMOD Rebooter will override the device picker dialog popup
and reboot or shut down the default device.
Requirements
Windows Computer
Android USB Drivers installed for your device
.NET 3.5 or greater

Yeah, just for the rebooting in this one. The underlying commands are handled by my library AndroidLib, and this just sits in the system tray
Thank you, this is awesome.
This will be handy for me as im always doing something...lol
thank you!!
Great Tool
Once again amazing work
Thank you. This will come in quite handy .
Updated to version 1.2.
I added a Default Device Override setting, where it will perform the action you want on that device regardless of other connected devices.
This should be the final version if there are no bugs. If there are any features someone wants added, feel free to let me know here.
Almost 1000 downloads since the release and not many comments haha. Should I assume everything is working correctly?
Works a charm! Thanks again for the tool!
Weird. Just now even saw this thread.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
wow ! thanks this is just perfect for me ...my home button has been damaged , hence i really struggle to get in recovery mode ...yesterday i had to try the button combiantion about 30 times to get in recovery mode to flash a rom as my nandroid had screwed up my phone ....
thanks a lot man
I figured out that if you are running another program I have written that uses AndroidLib (my .NET Android library) this may run a little slower than expected because both programs are relying on AndroidLib.dll. Let me know if you experience that.
Updated to 1.3.
Fixed a bug in my Android library AndroidLib and updated this application to fix that bug.
I came across one of your threads today and then have been in several of them. I've maxed out my "Thanks" for the day, mostly on you, but I did want to stop in and say that I just tried your latest version and it works perfectly. Wish I'd found this sooner. Thanks!

RegawMOD Rebooter 1.3

[MOD] Add webos option to reboot menu

Hello all, here's a quick little mod I've been using. It adds the option to reboot into webos from android without having to select it on boot. There isn't anything here to reboot directly into android from webos yet though. Perhaps down the line. Currently the setting is only in english, so I appologize if your language isn't english.
Install is like any other mod/patch/fix. Reboot into recovery, and flash the zip, then reboot and enjoy. You shouldn't have to wipe anything, but feel free to do so if you want.
NOTE: This has only been tested (and poorly at that) on a few builds, so it might not work. Install at your own risk. As always, backup before doing anything.
Also: Standard disclaimers about how I am not responsible for anything bad that happens directly or indirectly from the use of this.
If there's something else you want to see, let me know.

Tried it on Jcsullins Cm10 and got stuck in a boot loop and the same happened with the uninstall zip,so I used my recovery.
Thanks for the effort though it's a nice idea.
By the way there is app in webos from preware called Cyboot that allows you to change default boot , adjust the timeout AND select weather to reboot into android or webos

Or oats new one , although with oats the boot started with a Sony logo if that helps.
Thanks for your efforts .
First post has been updated with rom-specific files. I've only tested a few. If there are different roms you want to see this for, let me know.
Also, if you want it in a language besides english, let me know. If there's enough interest, I'll translate.
why don't you upload the patch to gerrit? I don't see a reason why it couldn't be merged

Hi confab
I have installed to Oats and jcsullins , both installed without mishap and on rebooting the option to boot WebOs is there. However on selecting the the WebOs option the Tablet shuts down . Only after hitting the power button again does it directly boot WebOs .
Is this what's supposed to happen, I thought it would just reboot straight into WebOs as happens when I select recovery for example .
Thanks for all your efforts .

Hmm, it should just reboot, rather than powering off. I'm not too sure what's up. I tried it in schizoid, jcsullins, and oat. I'll look again later today. Sorry for this.
Will try this mod later tonight.

Confab
I updated my moboot from 0.37 to 0.38 in case that was causing the problem .What I did notice is that if I leave my Touchpad on my Touchstone charger it automatically reboots into webos but if it's not connected to a power source it just shuts down and reboots into webos after powering up.
I hope this info helps and once again thanks .
