You know since the departure of my old time favorite phone and platform, Nokia and Symbian, I have been forever lost. Yes, even Android despite open-ability and usability, one is still tied to Google. This Ubuntu announcement has been the most epic announcement ever. Can't wait for a port to this Desire Z and vanilla Ubuntu phone goodness. Imagine Nokia N900 next gen with linux?

Is anyone actually working on this?

Please go to this thread --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2313334.
There you can find all the info you need

There's the Ubuntu Edge indigogo crowd funded project if any if you wished to upgrade to an Ubuntu device

Imetumwa na mtambo wa 4G kwa xda developer's app

It was ported but is in I believe ALPHA stage so wouldn't use it as a DD. Does look promising tho.

Droid x Running ubuntu

hello,
as you probably know ubuntu has bin able to run on the nexus one and evo 4g i have spoken to the dev of both the ''mods'' and he has informed me that if someone can make a kernel for the droid x with loop devices enabled and u follow hes video its possible that ubuntu can run on the droid x.he's exact words are ''You will need a new kernel image with loop devices enabled I think. I haven't tried it on Droid X yet but it should be possible with that new kernel. You should ask someone on XDA to compile a new kernel with loop device support, someone will do it.'' and im hopping someone here can do it and we can all run ubuntu on out droid x's i would do it myself if i had any idea of what to do lol.
thank you for your help and good luck to all ubuntu loving droid x users.
You can't flash a new kernel but you can probably build loop as a module.
As for ubuntu I had sucess in running Debian from my second SD partition in a chroot environment. I installed with debootsrap and have apt nmap wifi, etc. I just need to compile a compatible kernel (for ubuntu not android) for a full install.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
As of right now we have no way to boot a custom kernel even if one were to be created.
yea and how long can it take for u to compile one for ubuntu and once you have compiled one for ubuntu will it actually work for booting ubuntu even in ui mode as i can use terminal but it would be more eye-candy with the UI

sounds good man , so will this be like a rom i install and that enables me to install ubuntu?
Gotta love open source!
can u tell me how to get debian on my droid x?
Has any progress been made on creating a loop device module and getting ubuntu( or any distro) running on our droidx?
I'm willing to test.
I have been busy lately an unable to post a mini guide on getting this done. Just had my first child!!
In anycase I haven't tried making a loop module, I am waiting for the 2.2 kernel source. But I did make a second ext3 partition on my sd card and used debootstrap to install debian. It is currently only a chroot environment but I can use apt to install pacakgrs over wifi.
Hopefully in a few days I will have some time to post a step by step. If you want to try you can do some research on debootstrapp. I used a card reader to format the sd and use debootstrap to install ubuntu or debian.

You need android to downgrade. The hd2 running winmo can't do it. I think he wants somebody to port it to the android hd2.
Maybe this will help?
http://psfreedom.com/wiki/HTC_HD2
No pr0x2, that just allows you to jailbreak the PS3 if you have firmware 3.41. This allows you to downgrade the firmware from 3.50 to 3.41.
Really good for anyone who has upgraded their firmware either by accident or had no choice as the upgrade was mandatory and didn't give you that choice.
its been done
psgroove.com/content.php?503-KaKaRoTo-Reverses-Jig-Master-Key-Added-to-PSFreedom
As much as I want this on the hd2, I just went ahead and ordered a e3 card reader for 15 shipped. I hated how I needed to boot into the patched android version everytime I wanted to play. Either way I hope it gets ported.

Ok so you guys are using Android as a tool to downgrade the firmware on a Playstation3?
Yes, if you are on v3.5 you can now download to v3.41. You however need to do it by using specific type of usb dongle sticks. Or by hopefully having some one port the code to an android built. Use google for more info...

if so, alot of us here would be banned for the amount of things we do especially, Microsoft, HTC, Samsung, Application Developers, Google, Apple, LG, etc...
Adding Sony to the list issnt that hard, especially Sony Erikson phones get "xda'ed" too
hmmmm.....interesting

Porting Android 4.1, Jelly Bean to Desire HD

Hi Guyz,
This is kind of my Ambitious Project of Porting Jelly Bean to our Desire HD ... while I cannot do this on my own, I would be happy if other developers can help me in this. Most of our TOP DEVS have moved on to the Sensation and One series ... I think others (NOOBS like ME) should take an initiative to learn more about Deving.
I am currently trying to get the device Booted....will let know about the progress ...
Good luck to you sir. It sounds ambitious, but everyone has to start somewhere.

One of the biggest issues you have will be the display drivers that on the SDK are made for the worst chip when it comes to Android/linux. I wil be honest with you. Until the source for the ICS kernel is released in a few months you will be fighting to even get the basic things working. Gonna need to spend lots of time fighting in linux for it to happen.

The biggest issue might be get gralloc working right...
E/HAL ( 1526): load: module=/system/lib/hw/gralloc.msm7x30.so
E/HAL ( 1526): Cannot load library: link_image[1891]: 1199 could not load needed library 'libQcomUI.so' for 'gralloc.msm7x30.so' (reloc_library[1306]: 1199 cannot locate 'eglGetRenderBufferANDROID'...
That is libs searching other libs, meaning, compiling is the easiest way to fix thoose. but for that.. need source
You can easly get boot withought gralloc and egl... but, that will only bring a lot of fcs
rom stuck on splash screen.

HTC Desire V porting with Sense 4.0a. Anyone?

Hi guys,
I've just came across this new device for the Chinese market and here are the specs: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_v-4805.php
It has almost the same hardware as our old N1, above all NOTE that it has the same Adreno200 for graphics :good:
For now I have downloaded a European RUU (RUU_PRIMO_DS_ICS_40A_HTC_Europe_1.59.401.1_Radio_1.05.34D.25_20.20.30.22U_release_263747_signed) for this Desire V (codenamed Primo?), and I have extracted the system.img.
Now to extract the content of that image I have to play with a Linux environment..
I've tried with unyaffs.exe but this image won't extract with that utility. I think the only solution is to "mount -o loop system.img" or something like that.
Do you think it's possible to do something?
Please remember that I'm only a cooker, with some (a little) experience, but with NO Java knowledge..

I agree with xeloni. Shaky was using the One V rom dump, which has the Adreno205 gpu!
The great thing of having a device with at least the same GPU is that we can have the right GPU files/drivers and maybe have a complete full gpu rendering. Obviously we gonna have to build a 3.0 kernel and proper cpu drivers...

Nexus 7 Ubuntu 13.04 DESKTOP

Hi, I recently installed Ubuntu desktop on my Nexus 7 using multirom.
It all went well and works well if you use a mouse with an OTG cable, I understand it was meant for developers but has anyone been able to install the tegra 3 drivers and keep unity/taskbar working?
When I install the drivers and reboot, it boots up and looks better but doesn't have unity or the taskbar. I can get into terminal with a keyboard and pretty much everything can open but its not exactly usable this way.
Thanks.

Which Tegra 3 drivers are you talking about? Ubuntu Desktop for Nexus 7 should already come with all the drivers it needs.
Its very slow and doesn't play videos, only sound. Also, in "about this computer" or something like that, none of the hardware or even the devices name is recognized. Here's a link to it https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/armhf/nvidia-tegra3/16.0-0ubuntu3

Yes, those drivers are already included in Ubuntu Desktop for Nexus 7. They do have issues though (lots of screen tearing). Playing video shouldn't be a problem though if you have the right codecs installed.

Yes that's normal. Canonical ported Ubuntu to the Nexus 7 solely to test it and optimize it for low-spec devices. They didn't do a whole lot to polish it up and make it presentable for end users because that wasn't really their goal

Yeah man. Multirom is an app made for nexus devices that let's you multiboot ROM and distros. I've got cm11, ubunut and active plasma installed right now. Just read the how to's on this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011403 and download the Ubuntu 13.04 from that page. If you want a few other distros for multirom get them here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093797. It really is the easiest way to actually dual boot. And the dev is amazingly helpful. Don't hesitate to report a bug to him.

If you want a few other distros for multirom get them here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093797. It really is the easiest way to actually dual boot. And the dev is amazingly helpful. Don't hesitate to report a bug to him.
