[JB] Slimbean for Xperia play Guide (Thanks to; cj360, cosmic dan and lupus) - Xperia Play General

First of all i would like to say a massive thanks to:
- Cj360 for the epic Jelly bean Rom
- Cosmicdan for his awesome kernel
- Lupus as well for his awesome kernel
- And everyone else who made this Rom possible, I thank all of you !!
So now with the intro, I'm new to the forum and i shall be testing different Rom's and kernels and giving feedback mainly on the Xperia play R800i and the Xperia x10 mini pro U20i, recently I've been trying a lot of different Rom's and i stumbled acrossed this JB slim Rom (For the Xperia play) and i was extremely impressed with its performance. The interface is simply stunning, blazing fast and built firmly compared to other ICS and JB Rom's.
Here are some of the specs i gathered from my phone's settings
- Operating system, 4.1.2 Android Jellybean
- Model Number, R800i
- Slim version, Slim-3.1.0-20130202-2346-UNOFFICIAL
- GSM ( Note GSM Version is for UK only)
- Kernel Version
2.6.32.9-Turbo_v3.1 [email protected], #66
- Rooted (Built within the kernel, Both Cosmicdans and Lupus)
[ I have attached some screen shots of this Rom ]
If you have an Xperia play i would highly suggest trying this out, as it is one of the best I've seen on xda:

Installation Guide [For people who do not know how to install anything]
DISCLAIMERS
Before you start anything, I'm not responsible for any: Bricked devices, dead SD cards, boot-loops, etc (You know the drill). You do this of your own free will
Ok with all the serious chat aside lets begin. Firstly you will need the following:
- Unlocked boot-loader -----> Follow this guide from Sony:
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
- Flash tool -------> Get that from here:
http://androxyde.github.com/
- The Slim-bean Rom -----> Download slim-bean in Second post, pick GSM or CDMA depending on where you are:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975851
Below are two links i found showing all countries that use GSM and CDMA, hope it helps ! (If your still confused do a little bit of research !)
GSM -----> http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
CDMA -----> http://www.cdg.org/worldwide/index.asp - The kernel -----> Get either Lupus or CosmicDans turbo kernel (There both epic!)
Lupus kernel from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861970
Turbo Kernel from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817548
- AND A VERY IMPORTANT THING YOU MUST HAVE IS ..... patience's
Ok if you have everything lets start the guide (Note: Make sure everything is done on windows 7, as its easier than older versions of windows)
1. Before we do anything make sure that you have a unlock boot-loader and you have a downloaded the following files:
- The Rom itself ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975851
- The Google apps -----> http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
- The Kernal -----> I did Turbo Kernal http://www.mediafire.com/?ncgvp2qcuns9m (NOTE: PICK ZEUS as that is the code name for Xperia play)
- Flash tool -----> http://androxyde.github.com/
- Fast boot Package -----> http://db.tt/B5vG1ynM
- R800i_4.0.2.A.0.62_phoenixvendor.ftf ------> https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3UZttldr317Zm4xRnQ2WkRFbHM/edit?pli=1
2. Preparing your phone, make sure that you usb debug mode on and file transfer to MSC and allow unknown applications. Next you must connect your phone to your computer or laptop via usb, and open up flashtool and remember to install the drivers, they are located in C:\Flashtool\drivers and install the xperia play driver, fastboot driver and flash mode drivers. (MAKE A BACKUP OF ALL YOUR FILES IF YOU HAVE TO)
3. Go into flash-tool and select flash (Its a lightning sign) and then press flash and open up the directory where you downloaded the R800i_4.0.2.A.0.62_phoenixvendor.ftf and flash it. Wait a few secs or minutes depending on your computer/ laptops speed, then a dialog will open telling you to shutdown your phone so shutdown and wait until its completely off. Now connect the end cable to your Xperia play and hold the back button and connect your USB into the computer and wait for it to flash. This can take some time and you must keep hold of the back button until its completed. After completion it will ask for you to unplug the USB and turn on your phone so do so, then it will launch up the Sony sign and it will pretty much look like the original firmware you had before. Now moving on, once booted up you must skip all settings and wait for the phone to fully load once the set up is done go back to setting and make sure again that USB debug mode is on, unknown sources is enabled and it is in MSC mode. (Note for CDMA R800x users you don not need to flash the R800i_4.0.2.A.0.62_phoenixvendor.ftf )
4. Now connect the usb to the computer/laptop and place the Rom and Gapps onto your sdcard (Make a folder called Custom Rom). and then disconnect the usb after thats done.
5. Now this is were it can get complicated, so please pay attention. You must now shutdown the phone and disconnect it from the computer. Extract the fast boot package (Note: i would recommend to do this all on windows 7) and place it on desktop. Now drop the kernal you downloaded into the same folder (In this case i picked Turbo kernal, so i place it in the same folder). And holding the SHIFT KEY + RIGHT CLICK will open up a little menu (like when you right click anyway) and so you click on open command prompt here (CMD). ok now you type in the following code (In this case the turbo kernal) :
Fastboot flash boot boot_zeus_turbo-v3.1.img
Now it will say waiting for device so you now have to have you xperia play of and hold the search button and plug your usb back in then it will start transferring the kernel onto your xperia play, wait until it has finished and then disconnect your phone and boot it up.
6. You should see the sony sign and the Turbo sign underneath at this point you have to keep press the volume down button -
and then you will enter into a screen where it shows slot 1, 2, 3 and 4. So press slot 1 and then it should say: Boot, TWRP recovery, change slot and Tweaks and mods. So press recovery and then you will come to a screen with different options. First you need wipe data so goto wipe and do a factory reset and then go back and wipe dalvik cache and go back again and wipe cache.
7. Now you must go back and press install and it will show you, your sd card so now you must go to the folder that you name 'Custom rom', like i said before and now install the slim rom, it will ask you to swipe to install so do so and then restart your phone !!. (WARNING DO NOT INSTALL GAPPS STRAIGHT AFTER INSTALLATION OF ROM, INSTALL ROM AND THEN REBOOT AT LEAST ONCE BEFORE FLASHING GAPPS).
8. So now you have rebooted your phone, you should see after the sony sign, the world 'Slim bean' flashing. Wait a bit for it to boot up and then fill out the basic installation form.
9: restart the phone and install Gapps through recovery but do NOT WIPE DALVIK CACHE OR CLEAR CACHE OR FACTORY RESET, just install the gapp zip the same way you installed the rom in 'Custom Rom' folder and then restart.
10. you should have google apps now but the screen might look very small at first and so to fix this press: Menu button> System settings> Interface> Genral UI > LCD density and follow the steps. (This fixes issues with the screen and allows you to use apps like Facebook)
11. The final step of course is to enjoy your new Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Rom and Remember to thank everyone who made this Rom possible!!
So all in all i would highly recommend this, if you currently hold a Xperia play and your fed up with gingerbread then try this out, you won't be disappointed !!
Did i miss anything, if so reply back and i'll do my best to answer your question.

Re: [JB] Slimbean for Xperia play Review (Thanks to; cj360, cosmic dan and lupus)
This is a rather good guide. You might want to change the title. By saying "review" it could give the impression that you were just giving your opinions on the ROM. I used this guide to put slimbean on my Play and i found it easy to follow and understand. However, transferring my apps and data is such a pain:banghead:. I bought TB Pro as well but it tends to hang which leads to frustration as i have to go through the process of which apps i want restored and which ones i don't again and again. It's quite tedious and slow. Anyone know how to make it work "properly" or an alternative?

Thank you for the reply
I look forward to make more installation guides for people in the xda community and i agree i think i should change the title from 'Review' to 'Installation' (My bad sorry ). This is my first installation guide and i'm very happy that you were able to use it and install the slim Rom, as for the apps i think if you have a Google account anyway you should be able to backup your apps from your previous firmware e.g. Gingerbread. I think if you go to Play store then press menu and go to 'My apps' you should be able to see apps installed and previous apps installed if you swipe to the right (However you have to install them individually). I know how you feel though I've been trying different Roms and every time i find myself re-installing and backing up a lot of data, but for now i'm not sure if there is fix or an alternative for TB pro. But i would suggest backing them up manually for now via play store, until there is a way to do it all at once. But nevertheless I will try my best to give installation for all different roms (Hopefully for all phones), making it simpler and helpful for people to understand. Currently i'm studying in college but when i have time i will post different Rom installation guide, but for now thank you.

Good guide, noob friendly. I was just about to whine but I haven't found anything useless here although just edit the first post with flashing kernel via flash tool as it's much quicker and easier for everybody.
And it's called kernEl not kernal

Well don't get me wrong but all you actually have to change are just few lines in the thread and the title of the thread... Seriously, it's good that you've created such guide but come on, creating like 10-20 threads for different roms which doesn't actually differ much in the installation process? Come on, it's just bad...

I like Appextractor from AppsbyAndy. It lets you extract your apps from a nandroid backup. It's not perfect, sometimes apps are missing, but I like it WAY better than TIBU. The only thing I use TiBu for anymore is removing system apps I don't want.

I loved the performance of the rom. True jb feel with amazing customization tweets. Checked high end game FIFA12. Works great.
But the rom ultimately is useless for me until you come up with a gamepad and touch pad fix.
WE HAVE XPERIA PLAY. But without the gamepad working; gives such an ordinary feel. sorry.

[ROM] NoName V1.5 (ZCKPA/ONEPACKAGE/ARABIC-URDU-FARSI ADDED/RTL FIXED)

TESTERS NEEDED
so i just finish porting/adding arabic, urdu and farsi language/locale to this rom. basic things like making calls, messaging, wifi, usb connection works but i need to know if theres any bug exist. so i need anyone who mainly use those three language to do further test, feel free to pm me and ill give the link to this new arabic ported build. no dont be scared, this will not bricked ur phone, it installed and boot just fine. im actually using this rite now. i just need to know if theres any other bugs because i dont understand those added language, such as translation error, menu out of order when using ported language or anything at all.
changelog v1.5:
1- added arabic, urdu and farsi locale/language.
2- added fonts to support those three language.
3- removed lg keyboard, added swype which support arabic, urdu and farsi locale/language.
4- rtl fixed, character shaping works on default browser (see screenshot).
5- removed touchwiz launcher and replace it with zeam launcher.
6- removed default mms.apk, replaced it with mms.apk taken from htc desire.
7- updated gmail to v2.3.5 without signature permissions.
8- added facebook 2.0 apk.
9- filesystem is still ext4 but this time unjournalled ext4.
10- because im completely decompile/compile all apks one by one to add those three language, basicly all those apks were compressed abit more so this time theres more internal storage free compared to earlier v1. on fresh install, after installing 3-4 apps from market i still had 18mb free in /system/apps now.
11- remove qualcom bootanimation, uses default samsung's now.
12- cwm 4.0.0.9 smaller image file by 1-2mb, taken from ketut's cfroot b-82.
13- true onepackage install. no need to update kernel via cwm after odin install like previous build, cfroot b-80 already integrated in odin one package install.
sceenshots v1.5:
end of updated post. below is from previous v1. i'll edit it when this v1.5 is ready for public.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
what u'll get with this:
1- based on ZCKPA china fw but on first boot uses english.
2- unique feature that only for ZCKPA which is triple network mode selection (dualmode, 2g only, 3g only) and advance call managing (reject call with message, auto reject, auto reject list, phone number locator, ip call, etc etc...)
3- deodex and pre rooted.

Pretty hard to install I say! Can u make it more easy? Like just Open ODIN & flash via 1 package?
wow great, will try this one, thanks for your effort.
I think partitioning is not necessary for those who have already partitioned their card.
We can just flash this via odin as one file and if successfully booted flash cf-root then reboot and flash gapps for the market and other google apps.
Your instruction will harvest many questions.Make it easy.

2- its has louder volume.
3- lockscreen lag is minimal, almost like xwkpn.
4- its the smoothest rom i've ever use.
4- just to be different from other rom which mostly use xwkpn as base

Hmm i getting problem login into google acc. Seems like som kind of permission problem when installing gapps from zip flashable file. Think i should create another build. Next todo list:
1- remove some chinese app from system. Those app really takes huge space while i hardly believe anyone use it because its in chinese language.
2- maybe wait for next cfroot release that should bring smartass cpu governor. Btw im using kpn wifi module to make cfroot works with this rom. Dirty hacks here and there. So in theory, if the next cfroot still support kpn rom, it should also works with this rom.
3- gapss installed by default.
4- maybe rtl fix.
5- tun.ko, cifs.ko and other module preinstalled.
6- port seilent´s frozen winter theme. God how i love that theme

[GUIDE+LINKS] [22.08.2012] Know your device

I will post here some apps and facts for new users.
1. Flashing and rooting your device
ROOT=Administrator rights
Rooting is procedure that gives you full acces to your device. (similar to jailbreaking, gaining administrator rights on pc)
Root is not that much necessary as jailbreak because Android is more open platform than iOS.
You need root for some apps (file managers, unlocking programs, firewall...) and to fully backup your device.
Some guides for rooting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969 (quick root section)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728441
CUSTOM ROMS
Custom roms are created for all kind of users.
When you flash a custom rom all your data should be WIPED (depends about developer).
Some roms use Aroma Installer which lets you decide what goodies of rom you want and what not. (touchscreen control)
Nowdays probably all roms are based on 4.0.4 or 4.1.X firmwares.
There are: Samsung based ROMs (Samsung experience with some tweaks)
Aosp based ROMs (Android Open Source Project) Aosp feel and speed but you lose S Beam and motions
Aokp Based ROMs (Android Open Kang Project) Similar to Aosp but with different mods. You lose S Beam and motions as much as i know
Read the description of rom carefully.
Some Rom developers use word ''stable'' too loosely so be careful.
Every rom has a ''How to flash it'' section.
Install only roms created for your device.
DO NOT install roms for other Galaxy S3 devices like verizon, sprint, etc...
Links to all current ROMs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674286
KERNEL
Kernel is a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level.
Kernel is also managing system resources.
Kernel is like the brain for your body. But its useless without the rest of the body.
Using different kernel could give you better battery life or more stability. But you must test them to know.

THEMES
Setting theme via CWM
1. Download the zip file for the theme to your sdcard (make sure it's CWM-flashable).
2. Reboot into recovery mode by holding down vol up, home button and power button when the phone is starting up. This should bring you to a red/green/blue text menu with a list of options. This is Clockworkmod Recovery.
3. Scroll down using the volume buttons to the option "Install zip from sdcard" (usually option 4). Select it by pressing the power button.
4. Select "choose zip from sdcard" or ''choose zip from internal sd card'' (NOT "Install update zip") and browse to the theme zip you saved earlier. Press the power button to select it. Select YES to continue.
5. You should see a message that the file has been installed successfully.
6. Select the *back* option to go back to the previous page then choose "reboot".
Done.
If you want to make a backup, look for the backup submenu in Clockworkmod Recovery. Make sure you have enough free space on your sdcard first!
If the theme suggests wiping cache/dalvik cache these can also be found on the CWM menu. "Wipe cache partition" is on the main menu, and "Wipe Dalvik cache" is on the "Advanced CWM" submenu.
Some phrases:
Deodex = ensuring integrity of rom (packing APK files)
FC = Force Close (Crash of an App / Component)
CWM = ClockworkMod Recovery (mostly used to install new ROMs)
Cache = a component that transparently stores data so that future requests for that data can be served faster. Cache is most used of the market when you download a program. Its a small partition
Dalvik cache = a program cache area for the program dalvik that store program and store them for faster access etc..
Dalvik = java based virtual machine that is the bases for running your programs.
Brick = a dead phone or what piece you have. You can not save a bricked object. Many say they have bricked there phone, but they have not. they only crash the program on it so it dont boot up. So dont write you have bricked the phone. people just will have fun with you or be mad for you dont know what it means.
Please do not flame me if i have written something wrong. Just quote it in comments. This is not complete yet. Also English is not my primary language.

They are only used if the partitions in the phone are messed up, and that's hard to do.

3. download and unpack 3 part firmware for odin (download the one that suits you)
4. download pit file http://www.4shared.com/file/aPqdVwts/GT-I9300_mx_20120329.html?
5. open odin and load pit file. CODE in PDA, MODEM in PHONE and CSC in CSC
6. make sure re-partition [B]IS [/B]ticked
7. connect your phone in download mode and click start
8. wait

Little in-depth information about Android. Must Read. Thank You Pirateghost.
ADB → Android Debug Bridge (adb) is a versatile command line tool that lets you communicate with an emulator instance or connected Android-powered device..
Android →Unveiled on 5 November 2007, Android is a mobile operating system running on the Linux kernel developed by Google.
AOSP → Android Open Source Project
Apps2SD → Move applications from the internal NAND memory on the device to a removable SD Card.
BLN → BackLight Notification
Bloatware → Software bloat is a process whereby successive versions of apps include an increasing proportion of unnecessary features that are not used by end users, or generally use more system resources than necessary, while offering little or no benefit to its users. Like all the crap that comes from At&t
Brick → When used in reference to consumer electronics, "brick" describes a device that cannot function in any capacity (such as a device with damaged firmware). This usage derives from the fact that some electronic devices (and their detachable power supplies) are vaguely brick-shaped, and so those which do not function are useful only as actual bricks. The term can also be used as a verb. For example, "I bricked my phone when I tried to modify its firmware."[
Hard Brick → When your phone does not turn on at all. When you can’t get in to CWR/CWM Or Stock recovery. You are basically screwed.
Soft Brick → When your phone bootloops. When you can get into CWR/CWM. When You can use jigtag to get into download mode.
Busybox → BusyBox provides several stripped-down Unix tools in a single executable. It runs in a variety of POSIX environments such as Linux, Android, FreeBSD and others, such as proprietary kernels, although many of the tools it provides are designed to work with interfaces provided by the Linux kernel. It was specifically created for embedded operating systems with very limited resources. Platforms counterparts, but they are pretty close and useful nonetheless.
CWR OR CWM ClockworkMod Recovery →A custom recovery for Android phones and tablets that allows you to perform several advanced recovery, restoration, installation and maintenance operations on your Android device that aren’t possible with the stock recovery.
DEODEX → Apk files have respective odexes that devs use to supposedly save space. Deodexing means you convert it back to a .dex file and put it back inside the apk. This allows you to easily replace file (not having to worry about odexes), but the main point was to deodex services.jar so that you can change all text to different colors (such as the clock color to white) and to deodex services.jar, you need to deodex everything.
Flashing → The process of applying a firmware image (or ROM) to a device. It generally entails a very specific order of steps. Failing to complete any one of these steps properly may result in bricking the device.
Firmware → is a term often used to denote the fixed, usually rather small, programs and/or data structures that internally control various electronic devices. Programs stored in the ROM, EPROM, or flash memory that usually control various internal electronic devices (Hard Drives, Keyboards, Displays, etc). Firmware is typically 'fixed' software that is not updated in consumer devices, however it is often updated (or 'flashed') by advanced users to fix bugs or add features to the device. Flashing firmware designed for one device onto a different device, or not following a specific procedure while flashing will often render the device unusable.
Kernel → is the main component of most computer operating systems; it is a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level. The kernel's responsibilities include managing the system's resources (the communication between hardware and software components
Radio → The cellular radio on the device which needs control software called firmware to control it.
ROM → Read Only Memory. In the context of an Android device, ROM is the internal flash memory where the core operating system resides. It can also refer to a specific version firmware that can be applied to a device through a process usually referred to as flashing. An improperly flashed ROM can often brick the device, rendering it unusable.
Superuser→ A program, which gives unlimited access privileges to perform any or all operations on the operating system.
ODIN → Odin is the Samsung software used to update Samsung phones. It does not work with any other devices other than official Samsung phones.
OTA or FOTA → (F)OTA stands for (Firmware) Over The Air and is the process by which required updates and enhancements to your phone's basic operating system can be sent to you through the cellular network. The Galaxy S II software update will be sent via FOTA and is available through Samsung Kies mini.0
ODEX → In Android file system, applications come in packages with the extension .apk. These application packages, or APKs contain certain .odex files whose supposed function is to save space. These ‘odex’ files are actually collections of parts of an application that are optimized before booting. Doing so speeds up the boot process, as it preloads part of an application. On the other hand, it also makes hacking those applications difficult because a part of the coding has already been extracted to another location before execution.
SDK → Software Development Kit.
Logcat → A debugging tool built into Android devices that displays system logs as they occur. See Logcat.
NANDroid → A set of tools that will enable anyone who has root on their Android device to make FULL system backups, in case something goes wrong or you want to try out that new experimental ROM/theme. NANDroid will backup (and restore) /system, /data, /cache, and /boot partitions.
Recovery Mode → A special environment that you can boot into for troubleshooting and upgrading purposes.
Kang → The process of creating a code based of someone else's code or reapplying code that someone else created into your own code (e.g. git cherry-pick)
Rooting → is a process that allows users of mobile phones and other devices running the Android operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's Linux subsystem with the goal of overcoming limitations that carriers and manufacturers put on some devices.
HOW TO ROOT YOUR GALAXY SII I9100
For those of you who want to root your Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 on ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0+), here’s how to do it by flashing a new kernel.
Step 1. First, put your Galaxy S2 into download mode by holding down Volume Down, Center, and Power button together for about 10 seconds.
Step 2. When you see the warning screen, hit Volume Up button to enter download mode.
Step 3. Connect a micro-USB cable from your Galaxy S2 to your computer.
Step 4. Download ODIN program and CF Kernel. Then unzip both files. - Odin3v1.85.zip - CF Kernel
Step 5. Run the ODIN program. You should see a yellow highlighted rectangle box with a number. If you don’t, you need to install Samsung Kies. - Samsung Kies
Step 6. Hit “PDA” and choose the “CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5.tar” file you unzipped earlier.
Step 7. Hit “Start” and the kernel will start flashing to your phone.
Step 8. Your phone will reboot when it’s done.
Step 9. Once you reboot, check that you have the SuperSU app. If you do, you are rooted. Congrats!
HOW TO DO A NANDROID BACKUP
For those of you who’ve recently rooted your Samsung Galaxy S2 Android smartphone, you will probably want to learn how to backup/restore ROMs on your phone using ClockworkMod Recovery. By backing up your rooted ROM, you will have an insurance in case something goes wrong in the future such as bricking your phone while installing a new kernel or ROM.
After rooting, we highly advise you to backup your rooted stock ROM as you will also need this to unroot if needed later on.
Here’s how to backup/restore ROM on your Galaxy S2:
Step 1. Power off your phone then reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery by holding down Volume Up, Home button, and Power button together
Step 2. Once in ClockworkMod Recovery, choose “Backup and Restore” and hit the Power button.
Step 3. Choose “Backup” and hit the Power button.
Step 4. When backup is done, it will be backed up to a folder with current date and time. You can always change this folder name to something more memorable like “rooted stock ROM”.

Step 1. To restore, simply hit “Restore” instead of “Backup” and choose the backup folder you want to restore.
Backup will backup everything including your ROM, kernel, contacts, apps, etc…etc… The only thing that won’t be backed up are the contents of your SD card.
HOW TO FLASH A ROM
Basic Steps
! Choose the ROM that you want and download its .zip file
!! Transfer the zip file to your phone’s sd card. Do not put it into any folder.
!!! Turn off your phone and reboot into recovery, usually by holding the down button and power button at the same time.
!!!! Do a Nandroid backup
!!!!! Do a full Data wipe, wipe the Cache and also wipe Dalvik
!!!!!! Flash the zip file that you put on your sd card

HOW TO GO BACK TO UNROOTED STOCK
Step 1. Download and UNZIP Latest Stock Rom Here
Step 2. Put your Galaxy S2 i9100 into download mode by holding down Volume Down, Center button, and Power button together for about 10 seconds until your phone reboots and you see the warning sign. Press Volume Up button to enter download mode.
Step 3. Connect a micro-USB cable to your Galaxy S2 from your computer.
Step 4. Download ODIN, unzip, and run the program - Odin3v1.85.zip
Step 5. When ODIN runs, you should see a yellow highlight with a COM appearing. If you don’t see it, Download Samsung Kies Here and install. Then plug-out and plug in your micro-USB cable to your phone, you should see it now.
Step 6. Choose “PDA” in ODIN and choose the stock ROM file you downloaded/unzipped earlier.
Step 7. Hit “Start” and your phone should start unrooting/unbricking back to ICS official stock ROM.
Step 8. Your Galaxy S2 i9100 will reboot after 5-10 minutes.
Step 9. Your phone should now be on stock ICS.
Great idea for a thread.
I hope it will help all the noobs out there.
If anyone finds that any of the information above is incorrect or needs updating then please let me know and I will get the Guide updated.

Each stock ROM has a different modem inside for a specific model/region . Quick answer, it should work for all i9100 models. If you are on other variants like G or P or T, get the specific stock ROMs meant for them, the i9100 stock will not work.
Very nicely done OP.
I think this has been one of the better ideas on forums, making threads like this that explain the basics to people. Now, if we can just get people to READ them! haha.
thanks guys! this is very helpful
Hi I'm trying to root my sg2 for step 6 does it matter that the last 3 letters don't match my existing kernel?
I'm on Ics 4.0.4 my letters are LPT.
I've been reading and reading all these posts and guides and I'm confused :-\

No it doesnt matter about the last 3 letters. And by flashing the CF Root Kernel only roots the device and gives Root Access for the user. Hope this clears things up abit mate.

Thanks for the headsup - links working again - & files downloaded.
what version of ICS is in the stock - I want to take my S2 which is on 2.3 up to ICS - but want to avoid ICS 4.04 (been reading about hard brick potential)
my S2 Model number is GT-I9100P - the stock you link to is definitely compatible with my model?
Thanks in advance....

Im not completely sure if the linked Rom is compatable with your version 100% as I dont own this device any longer.
Might be worth asking around for the compatability listing.
I confirm that all information is correct with GT-I9100.
I honestly wish I could help more but its just the compatibility with your Model im unsure of.
If you find that listed Rom is compatible with your Device then please follow all the steps as listed in the Posts and there will be no problems.
But if this is your first time then I do advice to also download the Android Stock 2.3 Firmware aswell as a backup.
So if something does go wrong then you can always Flash back to 2.3 through odin and be back up and running again.
Hope this helps.

Great mate, nice to see someone helpful instead of the usual "get lost n00b" crap!
Everyone had to start somewhere!
Is there a CWM flashable easy root, as there is on galaxy ace, i found it much easier and less daunting than odin?
NeatROM -The Best!
@ Nick Fury
Thanks mate - your attitude & info much appreciated. Whilst I am a noob with the S2 - I had a lot of experience of ROM'ing the Desire.
I dont want to f**k this up - hence the questions
I'll research it out more.

[GUIDE][SOLUTION]-{Arc to S}- Why some ROMs and mods not working ?!

Greetings everyone,
Well, i have seen many many such problems "ROM didnt work" "mod not working even though did all steps" etc..and personally XUHD 3.0.2 at the time was not working at all on my device and i was so sad and frustrated, but then i realized the problem, flashed arc S FW and everything worked ever since...
P.S Not to sound ungrateful, but is there a way to fully remove the walkman? I mean including libs and everything. I don't use my phone for music much and move a lot of apps to the system partition and the walkman takes up quite a lot of space. Every mb counts for the Arc.

The thing is those people are manly using an Xperia Arc (LT15i) with the Arc firmware, and that the problem... with modern ROMs and mods, you need a bigger internal memory and bigger system partition space, which the Arc S (LT18i) has... Flashing stock LT18i FW on your Arc is very easy, simple, and recommended and i will guide you through (by now every single Arc FW user should follow to change to Arc S FW for a more comfortable and suitable Xperience...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTRUCTIONS:
*First of all download and install Flashtool ( a VERY handy tool to Unbrick, flash kernels, flash FW and many more options !) it is found in Arc Development section as a sticky so you can easily find it. install in C:/Flashtool (special thanks for Bin4ry and Androxyde for the Xtremely helpful tool) then go to C:/Flashtool/drivers and install the drivers you need for your device (dont forget flashmode/fastboot drivers)
*Assuming you installed/have it now you need to download the Arc S stock ics FW ( uploaded by zohaib0001) here: http://d-h.st/cyw
*After its downloaded it will be a .ftf file so you only need to copy it from downloads folder to C:/Flashtool/Firmwares in folder firmwares you can put the files needed to flash (e.g kernel,firmware...).
*Backup all those things you need because when you flash this firmware all your data is lost but NOT pics,vids,music.... you can use ANY backup tool to backup your apps, app data and more, like Titanium backup which is good...and for calender stuff and contacts simply sync them with Google so they would be VERY safe wherever you go....
*turn off your phone and wait for 3 seconds
*open flashtool and press on bolt icon and pick flashmode, you will see the FW on the left..double click it and wait for it to be prepared...
*after it's prepared it will open a window to tell you what to do ( now what you will do is hold BACK key while plugging in the USB cable.
* now your Arc will light up green and on flashtool it will start flashing the FW... (in case it gives an error with "flashing aborted" redo from 2 steps behind (own experience), if redoing those steps didnt work it means drivers arent properly configured so you need to make sure you installed drivers are installed from drivers folder in flashtool folder...
*After its 100% done, close the flashtool and unplug your Arc and turn it on... you will notice that there is no root ( BOOTLOADER NOOOT AFFECTED) so if you have unlocked bootloader simply do what you do to flash a new ROM... flash a kernel via fastboot (flashtool kicks in handy so you can flash kernels easily) like LuPus for example and reboot or flash ROM if you have it on SD...and sync with google to get back your stuff and install apps to resore your other stuff.
* Do these and you shall not face any problem with any ROM and mod (unless one of them is faulty ) and enjoy a better Xperience with a higher internal memory and higher system partition !
It's not a tft file.Please!
ITS A ftf FILE.

How to make archos internet tablet 101 gen8 faster

I recently got this tablet from my uncle who was gonna throw it out and i said i could try to tweak it .After few days i did the best and made it awesome and cooler than before here i will give the instruction how to make it faster ...
Step 1:
http://www.archos.com/va/support/support_tech/updates_dev.html
from the link you have to download the firmware for your archos device.
you could install it simply by copying it to your device and running it.
step 2:
install a custom rom i choose urukdroid but there are lots of other like cm7 etc
https://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/
above is the link for urukdroid in the website you could follow the steps to install it
step 3:
from here i will explain only for urukdroid as i have not tried other roms
so for archos 101 it gen8 only
if you don't want to install it in SD card then just set it up internally in advanced option it can also be found in the same website
https://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/Installation
step 4:
after installing the rom you must download arctools(i have attached it) connect it to wifi and install the google market after this
cos without the market what they have given sucks...!!
step 5;
download apps like clean master to remove usless preinstalled apps
download Greenify to bloack unused apps this makes the device fast and saves battery (awesome app)
overclock the device from 1 to 1.1 ghz - https://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/UrukService_cpugovernor
swap ram memory - https://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/UrukService_compcache
use launchers which you like it makes the device faster but with over customization it makes the device slower
If you into gaming Chainfire3D could be used to play the games little faster -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087427
if you follow all the 5 steps your device is completely customized and faster than before
please follow the instruction carefully or else you might brick your device and i am not responsible for it.
For any queries PM me.
And if you find any better ways reply to this post about it.
Wow
Just about to bin mine if it didnt work my mede8ter app ( which thought would be only reason for keeping) but didnt so its in bin next to my desk then just by chance seen this...well done for sifting through sites trying to find info and links I gave up long time ago...thank you for this will tell you how I get on...:good:
Mmmmm cannot run market...force close..
THANK YOU!
Bought the tablet used for $25, but it was bricked. got it running on a normal stock ROM but i couldnt get the play store on it. Found this just a few minutes ago and tried it. Got it all working now, (with URUK) glad i found it made me happy. Now i can give the tablet to my mom for her mother's day present!
You are welcome I'm glad my tut has helped you.

Sorry for the really late reply , sometime the market app may force close continuously
you can try reinstalling it and if it doesn't clear the problem then do a complete reset and follow the procedure from first.
Boot issues
I've rebooted into og os, then was not able to get the boot menu, even though I was holding down the volume down button. Solution: 1. Power off device. 2. Remove sd card 3. Boot into Boot menu. 4. Insert sd card. 5. Boot into developer edition. :good: :good: :good:
