Broken touch panel, help? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So some things happened and my Nexus 7's touch screen got junked.
I've sent the device to ASUS support hoping they would fix it at reasonable price...
I was wrong. They want to charge me almost 75% of the damn price for an LCD change.

This is 210 USD. Any leads on cheaper ways to fix the damn display?

Get a faulty unit from somewhere like Ebay/Craiglist, but make sure the fault aint the screen.
Then take the screen off the faulty one, and replace it onto yours?

[Q] Nexus 7 has lines across screen and doesn't load

"This was brand new at Christmas - my children somehow broke it only a few short months later so now the screen displays a mix of colored lines as seen in the photos. The screen is good - no scratches. It charges and powers on. Has enough of a display that I was able to go into the settings and remove everything, and set it back to factory defaults." - I might purchase this if anyone knows how to fix it.

not worth the hassle, a brand new one only cost you $199 and you have to replace the screen on this one and no warrenty if anything else goes wrong, that'll cost you a bit so i suggest you just hold off

Sorry, it looks like your screen died.
If you can't get it repaired or swapped under warranty, take it apart and try reseating the display connector.
I don't really think that that's the problem, but it's worth a try.
Replacement screens on the market cost about what a discount Nook costs.

Broken digitizer/Changing the display size

Hi,
recently my digitizer broke, and its not registering touch in the top portion of the display (about 15% of the screen). Since the only way to get it to work is to buy a new digitizer/display assembly which is too expensive for me, I want to the shrink the displaysize so the screen only shows on the lower part of the display where the digitizer works normally. So my question is, is there a way to do so?
Tldr:
Basically i want to change the display from 768x1280 to something like 768x1100. (So the top portion is blank)
Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what it is, but I got this black "dot/line" under the nav bar.

eat in any way so I'm wondering if it's worth it to ask for replacement of the screen. I might ending up with a screen with a lot of yellow tint also, something I don't have now.
I got a mail from the store I bought it from that says they can replace the screen under warranty if they see the "spot".
Would you care about it? See pictures..

Nexus 7 touch unresponsive

I have been using this device for more than 5 yrs. Recently screen rotation was not working so I tried to repair it by myself after watching some videos and forums. It was an easy process but due to my curiosity I dug into the hardware some more. During the process I mistakenly broke a piece from ZIF connector which was connected to the display. I don't know whether this could do anything to the touch. Now the touch becomes unresponsive. I am also thinking that the digitiser could be faulty but not ready to invest in a new one without knowing the real reason. Why this connector is for. Could this be the culprit? If so do I need to change the daughterboard? You can see the picture
