Link for downloading Ubuntu via Command Line - Ubuntu Touch General

Since there were no specific forum for this, I decided to post this here. I'm trying download and install Ubuntu on my Chromebox. However, both websites I have tried are "ready only." I will admit I may be doing it wrong. Are there any other websites I can use or anything on Google Code?

Omnia i8000: PC Driver Issue

Okay, you have installed Froyo but was unable to access it with your PC. This is not actually a solution, I just made this post so it won't be confusing coz I've been looking at other post and all the issues are all mixed-up - it is very confusing.
This is actually a problem for me since I can't use the Market to download applications. I can't use Market because of the WiFi issue so the only solution would be to use PC connection.
If you have any solutions please specify it here.
For the time being, the solution I found didn't work for me but I'll post it here anyway - it might work with you guys.
Probable solution:
Download the Android SDK. (Note: If Java SDK isn't installed in your system then you might be prompted to download it as well, it will automatically prompt you to go there so no need for a link).
Install Android SDK.
After installation, you will be prompted to CHOOSE the package you wan't to be installed in your machine. Approve SDK Platform tools because the INSTALL button will not be activated if you don't choose it and approve. Approve GOOGLE USB Driver Package. REJECT the rest because some of the packages are around 75MB+ and it will take you a lot of time. Just install the rest when you need it.
After installation, it will require you to restart the ADB - just restart it.
Follow instructions in this page -- http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html --.
Hope it works for you guys.

[GUIDE] Setting up fastboot for linux

I've just updated the Dell Streak 5 wiki with a guide to setup fastboot for linux in the Flashing guide section.
Oh, the sdk finally readded the fastboot binaries for *nix and osx are finally readded.
Main reason the nix and osx guides were stubs were that previously the fastboot binaries for all 3 os groups were missing from like platform-tool r6-r9 and they're included again in r10
I'm gonna update fastboot+adb.zip to include these files and take a look at the win drivers and do a big update.
I'm also going to rewrite your portion once I get fastboot+adb.zip reorganized and bring it to parity with the win version. Thanks!
Finally, the *nix portion will be added to the s7 and venue guides too to maintain parity and the s10 one when I get around to making the rest of it
Yeah, i saw your edit, i've since shortened the guide, because the relevant additional info is available on the android website and i've linked it, however, having only adb and fastboot in a zip is even better.
I'll see if the Mac version works on PC-BSD 9, and if it does, i'll add that as well (you never know)
No command udev in my fedora. At least in the my user PATH! In my root's PATH, I have only udevd and udevadm! I use Fedora, are these instruction Ubuntu specific?
Ultimately only the basics will be covered, I'm not willing to add (or even let others add) a dozen different branches to support every different flavor of linux.
When I'm ready to release a new Fastboot+ADB I will trim it down more if needed and leave it at that, currently it's pretty much about what I'd like it to be, it's mostly just a little formatting to make it match the rest of the guide.
The guide techincally also skirts the issue of different windows versions, there might be some minor things depending on which ver of windows and if it's x64/x86 but those details are left to the user to fill in on their own.
Users should be able to fill in some stuff like this on their own, just like the implied availablity of a unzipper.
If it's something that's specific to fastboot or adb and it's missing, we'll add it of course.

Udev is the udev daemon. I'm not familiar enough with Fedora to know what's the command to restart it, but you could reboot the computer and the new rules should take effect.
Yes, it is Ubuntu specific, since i use it, and the intructions on the official android site are for Ubuntu.
Actually the only thing that isn't mentioned anywhere, except in the Streakdroid install guide, was adding the -i 0x413c option after fastboot (or the respective USB VendorID), an omission that took me along time to find and kept me really frustrated by being unable to change ROMs.
Edit The Manii
I've linked to the SDK-Platform tools zip on the official android site, to save a few steps of installing the full SDK, so for now, you don't need to host a separate zip of adb and fastboot, until Google updates the SDK.
-i 0x413c is optional depending on how your env is set up.
I believe that optional step you made to register that ID makes it optional on *nix too, but as I dont use fastboot under linux I cannot verify.
It is optional under windows though.
I merely havnt finished testing the s7 drivers, the zip was missing the *nix/osx fastboot binary, it always had the adbd binary
For me fastboot didn't work without that option, just stayed on 'waiting for device' despite having read pretty much every guide that's out there for setting up fastboot and adb on linux (and ubuntu specifically), even though adb worked perfectly fine.
As far as not adding a custom rule in udev, I'm pretty sure it's needed since it's posted on the official android site and it's stated that it's required in order for the OS to recognize your phone.
As for the Mac OSX version, just downloading and extracting the SDK Platform-tools package and running fastboot from there should just work, but i don't have a Mac to test it on.

[Q] help for nook touch rooting from China

Hi everyone, I've been trying to root my nook2 and I've been over all the steps many times, and I can't achieve ADB over USB or WIFI.
I've used the nooter technique and the device looks rooted, I can log into Gmail and get new mail, but as youtube is blocked in China, I can't login to youtube as i'm supposed to in the process described on nookdevs. (is youtube loging really important?)
I can install apps from the market, but can't use the search field (no results, no matter what I type).
I decided to try adb access from there anyway (before asking for help...), and here's where I'm stuck :
I installed the light sdk combo found here : "hXXp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910008" and followed all the steps
I can connect to the device using wifi ADB, but the shell cmd doesn't get me anywhere (I get a hash mark and an endlessly flashing underscore)
I can't get adb access over USB, because no matter how many times I try uninstalling the basic drivers in the device manager(all of them), they always come back within 5 seconds when I plug the nook (and yes, I seem to have disabled automatic driver update in Gpedit.msc)
when I try to load the adb drivers manually over the preexisting ones it tells me no suitable drivers where found in my *.inf file (or that it already has the best driver for the device)
I've been over everything (apparently) countless times and I'm still stuck.
do you have any idea what the problem could be?
If I had to guess, it's either :
-It's not completely rooted (for lack of youtube login) so it will always be recognized as a Nook and nothing else in the device manager
-the factory defaults nook drivers are lurking somewhere on my laptop and prevail over the adb_usb drivers.
-there is another move to disable automatic drive install in Gpedit.msc which I haven't attempted yet.
Please if you have any ideas... My nerdy ego is absolutely hurt by this and it's begging for relief.
I've been thinking about this, and if I could just set up the android version of astrill directly in the micro sd (directly set up on nooter) I could then access youtube and finish the job properly.
Do you know if it's in any way possible to do that?
I wonder if you'd be able to use Orbot to be able to gain access to Youtube...

Read this, its all contained on my manual tutos, adb is gained just by changing uramdisk, there is one for wifi and another for usb, please, check which one you are using, then, follow this:
Here there is a list of all the tutos:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380400
and here the ones you should read:
Setting up adb manually on the nook touch:
Making the manual process LESS PAINFULL
Setting up root access on NST through adb and installing busybox:
Hope it helps.
For the youtube thing, just set adb correctly (when you get it right) sideload an app to use a proxy, or tor, or anything you like, and try to login on Youtube.
I'm really sorry for not responding to this
I managed to get it rooted in the few days after my post, and I didn't any email notifications of your replies (didn't check on control panel, i'm new here, please don't hurt me )
I found a chinese source for rooting (a seller on taobao.com explained it. The Chinese are quite fond of the nook because it's the only foreign e-reader you can use to read Chinese apparently, and Chinese e-readers are both more expensive than the nook AND crappy.
Anyway I painstakingly translated it and got it to work
what you tell me about the proxy is new to me though, I thought android couldn't run a proxy, that's great news not just for youtube but the zillions of website China blocks and that I could use my nook to check, I'll have a go at it when I get near a wifi network.
cheers

Odin 3.13.1 for MAC

This same article is copied on a load of different blog posts:
http://www.teamandroid.com/2018/03/02/download-odin-3131-windows-mac-android-oreo/
Towards the end it says "For Mac, you just need to extract the S1PlugIn.bundle included in the above zip and run it through VMware."
But it gives no indication on how you're supposed to run it through VMWare. I installed vmware fusion, and haven't been able to get it to do anything. Does anyone know?
This is the most of anything I could find about the bundle, and it's useless:
https://superuser.com/questions/67249/what-is-a-bundle-file-and-how-do-i-run-it
take
? How do i run it?
Any update on this?
I'd ended up just using my PC before seeing the reply. But the file posted by @KPOCAB4EG does appear to work. The binaryDownloader in the zip pops up an odin looking interface. Haven't used it though. Thanks @KPOCAB4EG
Over a year later and there isn't a single post on the entirety of the internet that explains what to do with this file. I'm a highly seasoned mac user and can't figure out what the heck it's supposed to do. The files in the bundle aren't even executable. No version of VMWare supports .bundle files.

bootloader unlock again

Guys, i know this question has been asked numerous times here, even about this specific device but ive read dozens of threads and read dozens more of other sites and i can't find an answer to my problem..my problem is this....
I have a Moto E4 from Metro PCS. i want to root it and install a custom rom like i have done on dozens of other phones (thanks to the awesome people here at XDA.D
i get tuck right off the bat since i cant get the bootloader unlocked..i know its poible through this site. https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.cowithin m/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
The part that has me stumped (i know its something simple but i jut dont undertand where it says
On your desktop, open a command prompt or terminal, and go to the directory where you installed the Android SDK tools (or make sure fastboot is in your $PATH)
At the prompt, type
$ fastboot oem get_unlock_data
i just dont get it..I like to think im pretty proficient with computer and phones but not so much when it comes to terminal/command line stuff i guess... what does it mean to make sure fastboot is in my $PATH?
does it mean the fastboot.exe? or something else?
also the device for some reason doesn't seem to be recognized under ADB Device..when it is it says it's unauthorized.....and when i try to open up a terminal either in that location or if i navigate to that location within the prompt after i type $ fatstboot "with or without the "$"" it say's something like the command isnt recognized..sorry for this drawn out post, im just trying to give as much info as i can the 1st time around
my device i Metro PCs moto e4 on 7.1.1...model XT1765.
Thank you for just reading this let alone answering or helping me out with this problem..it is much appreciated,, im trying to get my girlfriend phone better and get her into the whole custom rom scene but im making myself look kind of foolish here that ive been able to root/twrp/rom every other phone ive had besides this one.

Your tethered device (phone) is not communicating with the host (PC). Install Motorola Device Manager on the host to insure you have the proper drivers. Might need to install Minimal Fastboot and ADB as well. Links below.

Thank you for the rapid resonse..see I had that installed but I read somewhere on the site while downloading it that it could interfere with adb interface so I deleted it..I will reinstall and try again and post back..just wondering. Should I install adb/fastboot at the default location or should I install it in the android SDK folder..I read somewhere I need the android SDK to unlock the E4 bootloader. Is that true do u know?..have you done this process yourself?

Every moto device I own is unlocked. No need to alter default locations. Don't believe everything you read from self-anointed experts.
