Xperia Z(SO-02E) - DoCoMo Users - Xperia Z General

Just thought that a thread dedicated to questions/tips/issues for Docomo SO-02E users would be nice.
I don't have it yet, but i'm planning to get the white one.

I have a question, my DoCoMo XZ is being sent to me as we speak, and I was wondering if the xperia launcher is loaded on the phone so I can switch to it from the DoCoMo launcher. Since the DoCoMo launcher looks pretty lame, if not I can always use some other launcher.

^ Yes, Xperia Launcher is included. docomo XZ also includes both stock Android browser and Chrome.

With unnecessary apps disabled, the SO-02E has excellent battery life, with nearly no drain on standby!

nice, thanks for sharing!
i just bought the SO-02E too!

Does anyone know how we can use some other mms app instead of i-mode mail?
its so hard to use.

FYI, you can now upgrade the SO-02E to support NFC-A payments (so you can use Google Wallet in the US/Europe and Mastercard's PayPass system later) as of last friday 22 Feb.
You need to bring the phone into the Docomo shop for a (free) SIM card change.

for the future update (official) does the phone has to be in Japan with DoCoMo sim card in it in order to receive update like many other DoComo phones?

If you get (subsidized) XZ from docomo, you will be enrolled in SPモード service, not i-mode.You can use either spモードメール (preinstalled) or CommuniCase (Play market).
spモードメール is very simple and displays emoji, but it has very few options. CommuniCase offers more options and better interface, but cannot display emoji.

Afaik, you do not need a docomo SIM card. You will not be able to get OTA updates, but you can use PCC or SUS to download and install the updates manually. However I don't know if you must be inside Japan, so maybe someone else can help answer.

Not if you want to use your carrier mail address.

Good News!
Now that ROOT has been achieved on SO-02E, what can we do with it?
Install new roms?!

Given that kernel source was released concurrently with the phone, yes I would expect to see some recovery-installable ROMs in fairly short order.

Very happy with the SO-02E, once all the bloatware is disabled.
A bit of a shame that we have to choose between using a case and using the dock.
I installed one of these leather protective layers from msyplus (made in japan, JPY 4000) and it looks gorgeous, but cannot use the dock anymore.
I have also installed CWM for locked bootloaders and it works great.
The only issue I have has been with the walkman player. Music would skip very briefly after some time. Rebootingthe phone would help for an hour or so.
Very rarely have the issue with Poweramp though.

By the way, anyone knows of a way to get a clean unbranded rom but keep @docomo.ne.jp address and NFC (I use Edy and mobile suica)?

after I disable all bloatware, I'm really happy with it.
Thank for your guides

How is it hard to use? If you don't use the Japanese app, you will get corruption when you receive MMS mail from other Japanese users who used templates or other features not handled properly by the standard android app.

I updated mine already, inside Japan, but over WiFi, with Mobile Data off. I don't think it needs a Docomo SIM. My Xperia Acro HD also updated with an eMobile SIM just fine.

Does anyone notice that the Tablet Z from Docomo lacks on the following feature :
My Power Management is different from the original Sony Tablet Z I was wondering if it is because is a docomo version (I have the latest firmware)

You should use "CommuniCase"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nttdocomo.communicase.carriermail
This one is way quicker and it can also recieve other mails like Gmail

WP8 new features!

So with the emulator leak we have new things to look at
Namely:
- downloading maps
- Applications + settings and SMS are now able to be backed up on CLOUD (http://clip2net.com/s/29yZl)
- PIN for app purchases on store
- upgraded camera UI
- OneNote separated from Office - probably something like OneNote MX?
- IE10 has again "Find on page" option!
- Data Sense application - to measure data usage (WiFi, cellular)
- Search page is now greatly enhanced with News, In Theatres, ... (Personalized suggestions - requires Hotmail account signed in, but that doesn't work.)
- Multiple photos selection (http://clip2net.com/s/29z2y)
- More settings in Ease of access (maybe they were just US specific before that?) - text size, high contrast mode, screen magnifier throughout the system
- Ability to remap the STOP button in IE to something else - namely favs, stop/refresh or tabs
- Partial blocking of cookies (tracking cookies?)
- Lockscreen to show Bing today picture rather your own one (NEAT!)
- LOCKSCREEN TO SUPPORT CUSTOM APPLICATIONS!
- Zune Music is now called Xbox Music including reporting "what are you playing now" to Xbox
- SafeSearch settings for Bing search
- More detailed phone storage informations including buttons to move photos or music to SD card

Are there any APIs that can filter calls or SMS?
Windows Phone 8 is going to be a killer OS!! I seriously can't wait to upgrade from my aging DVP!

I highly doubt that, didn't see any api
Here's my list, what I have found so far in the .chm file:
SmsInterceptor for capturing SMS messages
SpeechSynthesizer, SpeechRecognition - sounds good
Battery class for accessing remaining power, finally!
LockScreenWallpaper - API for changing current lockscreen
VoipPhoneCall - if you want to create your own Skype clone
SaveAppointmentTask - to save appointments into calendar
App to App and App to Device Bluetooth communication
FlipTileData, CycleTileData, IconicTileData - new types of Tiles, including that 3 size tile
Second post GREATLY updated with A LOT of images. Click on them for full resolution (WVGA).
If anybody would be interested in some kind of video walkthrough - I suppose it could happen during the weekend as well?
Also it seems to run with only 256MB RAM without a page file, so hopefully we will be seeing devices like the Nokia Lumia 610 at a low price.
anything related to wifi? I really want an option to not lose wife when phone is locked
Thanks
i still don't see myself pulling away from android. i really want to though...
I want to see the lock screen in action, and I want to see if they made any changes to the toast notifications.

i was wondering...
is VOIPcall based on skype? or a standard like SIP?
i work in a telephony company, and i'm interested in this functionnality: i already have lot of ideas of how to use voipcall in my desktop software (switching from desktop softphone to WP8 voip automatically, adding mobility to my desktop softwares, etc...)

What about multitasking?
Is the multitasking the same as Windows Phone 7.5? Is the number of "freezed" apps increased? Are there any changes?
The only thing we know from MS is that VoIP apps and GPS apps will be able to run in background (or get much less limits compared to regular apps) - so apps like GPS navigation or Skype will run in background as you'd expect them.

4.3 rooted / what apk's can we delete?

Sony's account manager and the Unlimited app for a start, the only thing I left of the Sony stuff was the Walkman/album/movies trio.

This people don't know how to install properly custom roms. I installed 4.3 custom roms few times and as you can see my phone is working great.
Mine's working with better performance, less battery drain and more free RAM but some are unsure in things like flashing.
@Riemen
I deleted everything that had FB or Facebook in it's file name and some other apps as well. If you are not sure if an app is necessary for the device, just rename the extension to .bak or move it to your SD. When there's an issue you can just rename/copy back again, set correct permissions and nothing will have changed.

Time for my experience to shine here..
I've gone in and removed a ton of services and apps from the system after rooting my 4.2.2 device, using TiBu. If you choose to follow this guide, you do so at your own risk. I will not assist you in repairs if your device stops functioning, however you're welcome to POST (don't PM) questions about whether I have a specific item frozen or removed from my device.
All carrier related apps, in my case, Rogers Canada, such as Rogers Navigator, One Number, etc, can be safely removed.
All "Xperia" plugins can be safely removed. These include the social media for Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, etc.
All Google store applications can be removed EXCEPT the Play store for apps - Removable entries include Google Play Books, Google Play Movies, etc.
All Playstation related items can be removed, if you don't use them.
Most, but not all mini-apps can be removed. You must keep the calculator, clock and timer apps unfrozen and installed, or else the task switcher refuses to open and Xperia Home FC's. If you use a different launcher, I'm not sure what your experiences will be.
You can uninstall any stock apps like Calendar, Calculator and what not, but they must be replaced by the Google versions available on the play store. Do not try to uninstall/freeze them if you plan to use a 3rd party app.
Tasks, Notes and other "Sony" apps can all be removed (Albums, Walkman, etc).
Smart Connect, Throw and Photo Services can be safely frozen, but not removed.
Camera Apps can be safely frozen, but not uninstalled. Camera refuses to operate without those plugins present. 3rd part apps also refuse to operate (tried with Vignette, and CameraZoom FX).
Freezing the camera apps also removes the "slide" functionality of the lock screen, so if you remove them completely then you can't swipe to unlock your device.
Exchange Services can be frozen, but not uninstalled. If you're confident you'll never need to add another sync account to the device you can uninstall it. If you uninstall it and try to add an account such as a Google Address, or similar, then the Settings app FC's.
Messaging app can be safely removed or frozen if you have a replacement app to accept SMS and MMS (such as Hangouts). If you don't have a SMS/MMS app and you freeze or uninstall the messaging app, then your device will reboot whenever you receive a message.
All Mirrorlink related items and services can be frozen, but not uninstalled.
RetailDemo can be frozen or removed.
SensMe Slideshow can be frozen.
Setup Guide, Sketch, Top Contacts, TV Launcher, and all unused stock themes can be frozen or uninstalled safely.
You can safely remove the Xperia Home launcher if you use an alternative launcher, however a factory reset on the device will cause it to stop functioning completely, and in order to recover it you'll need to Flashtool (and subsequently unlock your bootloader) to repair it. I DON'T RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS
You can safely remove the Xperia Keyboards, however like above, Factory Reset will cause the device to become completely unusuable. I DON'T RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS

I DON'T RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS
Things i removed, If there any leftover related to these do advice
Thank You
Excellent lists, keep the good work up.

Why do you say unlocking the BL is necessary? It should be no problem to flash to whatever FTF after booting into flash mode.
I've tried previously using Emma (or whatever it was called from SonyMobile). To use FlashTool it tells me the BL needs to be unlocked.
Now as we´ve got 4.4.2 running the debloat list could get an update, doesn´t it?
I debloated too much, I guess.. My camera doesn´t work properly any more, it doesn´t focus and taking pictures freezes the cam app.
Have to watch out better before kicking out too much ^^

For Emma you do, try going to flashtool.net and using that flashtool, it does not require unlocking the boot loader

This list will be ongoing. If you're reading this message, there's more edits and what not coming this way.
I am currently using an Xperia Z1 C6906, Locked Bootloader that is rooted with dual recovery and NUT's 14.3A.0.681 (Android 4.4.2, Kit Kat). This is the stock rom, a fresh flash (no data backup/recovery).
If anyone knows how to export a list of currently installed/unfrozen apps from TiBu, I'd be happy to post that. Currently, all I have figured out how to do is export the entire list, but it doesn't specify if it's frozen or not.
Update (Mar 28, 1142hrs): I'm almost finished tweaking, but am having a problem with the stock EMAIL client. It's frozen, but something in the OS is calling it and is causing a "Unfortunately EMail has stopped" window appearing what I estimate to be once every few hours.. usually every 6 hours.. As soon as I figure out what's causing this, I'll post the guide and list of apps I have frozen, so you can safely remove without fear of crashes, stability degradation and boot loops
I don't understand why this thread doesn't get more love.
I'd rather remove system apps and freezing things than to install other roms..

Same happened to me here when I was deleting system apps, but I didn't delete that much, Only 8 files, 4 apks and 4 odexs.
Anyway, I used flashtool to flash the ftf I made from my SUS updating my mobile (I uploaded it and posted it in the mega collection, it's Global LTE) and then unlocked bootloader, hotbooted doomkernel to go to TWRP Recovery, and flashed NUT's DualRecovery for LB and flashed the latest SuperSU zip and rebooted to system.
Then connected it to my PC to restore my TA backup and lock the bootloader.
Now I have full root stock firmware on locked bootloader.
I don't know why but I feel that I went waay off-topic.
Regards,
~J2C
Is the de-bloating extreme if all the system related apps only are between 90-92 installed total, in /system, after reboot (after wiping cache and Dalvik Cache in recovery)?

Default Calling/Dialler App from Android Wear Watch

Hi everyone, hoping for some assistance. I recently changed phones to the Sony Xperia Z3 from the Z3 Compact. I have a Smartwatch 3. Previously when I said "okay Google, call NAME" it would use the default phone dialler. Now for some reason it defaults to Skype, and in my all apps preferences there is no default set. How do I make it use my phone instead of Skype?
Thanks!
I had to uninstall updates to lose android wear ability.
Until a proper fix is available

What are the apps that you would or do freeze/uninstall from the Sony firmware? Is there anything else beside mine (I might have missed something)?
Have a nice day!
Are you still able to receive OTA updates after disabling/freezing/uninstalling What's New and/or Support?
I also noticed that you removed FM radio. What was your reason? Personally, I found it easy and simple to use and like the idea of not needing to scour the Play store to find a replacement and potentially deal with ads/in-app purches etc.
Honestly I don't care that much about the OTA as I need to "touch" the system partition in order for Secure Settings (an long un-updated Tasker plugin), but maybe I'll look into that at a point and bring back the OTA's (probably after the Nougat update).
As for the FM Radio, I don't really use it and, if I ever would, I would simply unfreeze it.
I see, so this is a list of apps that are worth removing based on your personal preference, not in general. Your post title could potentially lead to misunderstandings though.
In light of that, I came across this great comprehensive list of sony bloatware that a member of this forum was maintaining a while back:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1geFByRKDTOOZSIBOixO2boG1_78NUjqzkB6iozzJ4-k/edit#gid=0
It's quite detailed, and very useful to help determine which apps are irrelevant for you and decide whether to disable/uninstall it. Although it's based on Lollipop firmware, you'll find that most of the apps are still present on later versions.
Source and credit
By the way, I am curious, are there any benefits to disabling the FM radio app (and other similar system apps) if you're not using it anyway? I assume it doesn't run silently in the background as long as you don't launch it? Disabling/removing system apps doesn't free up usable space either, since the system partition size is fixed, so the data partition is unaffected.
I have a detailed personal list of stock google and sony apps, analyzed by decompiling them so i can remove those i don't need. If i have some time i'll share it
Here's a good contribute too http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/help/bloatware-safe-to-uninstall-t3387202.
Another list here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1geFByRKDTOOZSIBOixO2boG1_78NUjqzkB6iozzJ4-k/htmlview#
by removing lots of apps you can get a smoother system and
Remember: you should uninstall or hide the packages ("pm hide" command, useful on unrooted phones or if you want to quicky recover the "deleted" app). If you simply freeze/disable them they can be started by other apps and services will keep running.
Can I somehow freeze or remove those apps wihtout having a rooted device? Maybe through ADB?

You can disable system apps without root, go to settings > apps > show system apps, tap on the app you want to disable and tap the disable button.
You can't remove them without root.
just what i've been searching for.:good:
