Sony Xperia Z Android 4.2.2 and Kernel 3.6 in the first official screenshot - Xperia Z General

It seems like that this time Sony is going to beat everyone and bring the latest version of Android on its new Xperia device. It’s recently appeared in the official Sony Xperia blog a screenshot showing the system information of Xperia Z C6603, where you can admire the latest version of Android 4.2.2.
What you can see below is the first screenshot of the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the Sony Xperia Z (C6603). It was sent to us by an anonymous tipster with some of the baseband and kernel details understandably masked. It shows us that the Android 4.2.2 JB update will have firmware version 11.1.A.1.450. However, we are told this is a beta version, so expect the firmware version number to be in the form of 11.1.A.X.XXX by the time it is released. It uses a new 3.6 kernel, compared to 3.4 kernel of the old Android 4.1.2 firmware. Best of all, we are told that the official release for this Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware will take place at the end of March in Europe. Obviously none of this is official information so take it with a pinch of salt, but if Sony does manage to upgrade the Xperia Z a month after release many customers will be very happy indeed.

Sony, then, is already working on Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and it’s near to release it as an update to its new device. Not only that, but from the screenshot you can clearly see that the kernel is updated to version 3.6, this mean, that Sony his going to beat the Nexus family that is standing with 3.4.
Release which should take place in Europe by the end of March. If so, and we have good reason to believe it, this time all the other manufacturers would have to take a cue from Sony!

I just hope it has the screen calibration. :fingers-crossed:

Nice, can't wait to make a 3.6 kernel

Xperia Z + Android 4.2.2 = Best phone ever !

If it is real - i'm happy to see they'll bump it to 4.2.2 and not stay with previously announced 4.2.1

Hope this update comes too for my xperia tx and the 2012 xperia line

i think it's shopped.
compare android version with kernel version or the build #
Now why are the dots between numbers blurry and to close to each other?

It's a bad resize.
It's real, but that doesn't mean the release is all that close. Late March sounds a bit optimistic but it's possible. 4.1.2 on the Xperia Z is extremely stable, I haven't encountered a single bug, hang, slowdown or bad wakelock since I got it!

I'm agreed with you, mr.
it seems to me that photoshopped.
but if its real, than XZ will become a awesome phonee :good:

It probably just as real , as the xperia s jelly bean 4.1.2 update. Perhaps we will get it in the next century or so....when everybody using android "Bla Sweet 6.6.6 " Sorry to being sarcastic, I have both devices and not happy with the update speed. Time is ticking and sony losing here. Other manufacturers already pushed out 4.2.2 and heard that android 4.3 coming and S still waits for 4.1.2 Z still waits 4.2.2

hey! I can edit my build prop and post a screenshot too!

mid june rumor says

Mid June is a bit too early, but I think it could arrive somewhere in the summer.
4.2.2 is not a priority for Sony, they want to make sure their own services and additions work well first. And it'll be worth it if you ask me

[Update] Most gingerbread devices (including Xperia handsets) will see an ICS upgrade

Okay, so we've already seen Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Nexus S, but that was decidedly... unofficial. We've just heard straight from Google's Gabe Cohen that the Nexus S will definitely be getting ICS. In fact, both he and Matias Duarte think most Gingerbread devices will see an upgrade, saying: "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device." It's hardly a surprise and there's no specific word on timing just yet, but hopefully it won't take long to move that vanilla Android device up to something with a breaded exterior.
Keepin fingers crossed for our ARC.

HTC may be busy pondering its Android 4.0 future, but Sony Ericsson is apparently ready to take a bite out of Google's Ice Cream Sandwich. Yesterday, in a post on its Facebook page, Sony Ericsson's Dutch branch stated that it will indeed upgrade its Xperia lineup to the latest Android OS, though it didn't offer any details on release dates. We reached out to the manufacturer for confirmation, and received the following statement:
Sony Ericsson is currently rolling out the upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.4 across its entire 2011 Xperia smartphone portfolio. This software upgrade will be available through a phased roll out in select markets. Beyond Gingerbread 2.3.4, we plan to upgrade our 2011 Xperia smartphone portfolio to the next Android platform made available to us.
The company went on to say that all official software announcements will be posted on its blog, so we'll let you know as soon as we have more details.
Bring it on!

yeah can't wait for ICS!
I just REALLY hope SE leave this one fairly stock, with regards to most of the apps and the UI.
They made the right move replacing a lot of 2.3 because frankly it sucked, but Google have really worked to refine this, it would be a shame to see SE spoil this consistency in the UI they've finally achieved.
.... Saying that.... I hope they keep the SE camera app, but everything else I'd love to see stock
So i guess we ( Xperia Arc Users) will get the ICE CREAM SANDWICH upgrade for our mobile ???

Sony Ericsson bringing Ice Cream Sandwich to Xperia handsets
Thread updated.

Sony Ericsson’s new Gingerbread UXP

We were sent a screen capture of Sony Ericsson’s new Gingerbread UXP (the UX platform is the strategic framework for the core of Sony Ericsson’s portfolio) over the weekend. Interestingly the picture has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, the same as the rumoured Sony Ericsson Nozomi – further evidence that this 2012 flagship will launch with Android Gingerbread.
The single image itself doesn’t give too much away. It shows the Android home screen using a new font for the clock widget. The small rectangles at the top of the screen on current firmware, showing which of the five home screens you are on, have been replaced by circles. Also the border around the four sticky icons at the bottom has been removed. The UI also matches that seen on the leaked Nozomi images from earlier today.
It is therefore looking more and more likely that Sony Ericsson has redesigned some elements of its Android Gingerbread firmware and that this will launch prior to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update in H1 2012. We reported on new eDream6 firmware over the weekend. At the time we were wondering what had happened to eDream5, so maybe this is it? Given the date on the image below, could this new firmware be rolling out as soon as early January (along with a Nozomi release)? It shouldn’t be as farfetched as it sounds given all of the recent evidence.

Personally I see them going from early 00's tacky imitation shiny glowing 3D mess to refined, clean shiny glowy not-bad-....ness.... That made far more sense in my head.
I don't think Nozomi will launch with Gingerbread. 2011 Xperia phones are expected to get ICS before the 2012 flagship launch (which is estimated to be announced officially @ MWC in February and be launched a month or two afterwards).
So this doesn't make sense to me.
And I am fairly certain that they clearly stated they've been working on ICS since Google released the source code, so who cares about GB anymore?

KitKat is all fine and dandy but without, I am sure, additional sources released by Sony (Ericsson) we will probably never get a JB kernel working and still retain full Xperia PLAY compatibility... then again I may be completely wrong and if I am someone correct me. I have stayed pretty much on GB for gaming. Either way, thanks for sharing... although I think this should go to the General forum.... anyways... thread on.
google says that they made the OS smaller and after so old devices that didn't get in the past update can now get update because they resolve many issues.

True but they also stated those will need to be updated by either the carrier or the manufacturer of the device(s). As $ony long ago gave up on the PLAY, I think its incredibly unlikely we will see any support form Sony and or even source releases.
Still, it would be awesome if we can get it up and running, but dont forget the highest kernel we can sort of get working, is kernel 3.4.
Kitkat would be an even higher kernel number.
Google isn't even releasing KitKat for the Galaxy Nexus. Sony isn't going to do it either, and it would need hardware drivers from Qualcomm side too.
Why is this thread in the dev section?
is that true?

They abandoned it,yes. As far as i know, there are no new models build and everything that is floating around in shops are the last produced batches, not getting the update to Android 4 kinda sealed this assumption
I don't know if the X Play will ever get KitKat but Google introduced a new runtime called ART to replace Dalvik with KitKat, on my Nexus 4 it really improve the performance to a substantial amount, so maybe that will help as well.

Would be great if Sony would pay more attention to their old phones, specially because they cancelled the ics update so sudden.
But i don´t think this will happen.
And that's one reason I won't buy Sony again.

so? is there anyone working on kitkat roms for xPlay? or its abandoned at all?
By the looks of it, KitKat is out of reach for our device, theres barely any 4.1 or 4.2 jellybean roms functioning, what makes you think we will get 4.4 any time soon? Our Play is best optimised for GB due to performance issues as ICS+ isn't 100% functional on our play. Don't believe me? try any ics rom out and sooner or later you will find out that games will lag and memory will tend to be low. Sorry but this is the bottom line for our xperia play.
Legacyxperia (mostly mike) is working to get gully working 3.4 kernel. Than we wpuld be able to boot kitkat.

New camera api need drivers update (it depends also on hardware, not only on software, so lollipop is not synonymous of camera api 2). For now even on z3 and z2 there aren't, speak about xperia family. Don't expect camera api 2 on our phone, first thing for a marketing choice. Which are the phones with new camera api support? So much irony over here.. Previously before this annunciation we had post like „I don't expect Sony will bring us 5.0.x“,. after that we've seen „Sony is so dumbasse* that they can't bring us 5.1“ (or sth), and now, when we're officially getting 5.1 people start's saying „I don't expect Android M“.. c'mon, guys. We're so damn lucky that we even got 5.0.x, because our Z is 2+ years old.
come on guys even the nexus devices don't get updates tis much. instead of feeling bad about android m be glad about our XZ's having a L update. i think sony is doing a great job about android and phones or tablets. it's a shame that other phones users don't see the durability, camera, support and power of our devices.

Another 8 months more to get 5.1 based on my own speculation. Sony Mobile first announce their lollipop upgrade @oct last year and we got it after around 7 months.
5.0 -> 5.1 is a much simpler step than 4.4 -> 5.0 so it shouldn't take as long.
