Battery only charging to 75%...How do you clear/reset battery history? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm not sure if this has to do with a battery calibration issue, but my Nexus 4 has been charging only up to 75%.
Also, every time I plug in my charger, the battery history used to reset to 0 min. Now, the battery history has been on for 3 days without resetting. I'm guessing this is because the charge doesn't go all the way up to 100%. How do I fix this? I am on stock 4.2.2 and using the stock charger. Should I try using my Nexus 7 charger?
Thanks,
Nexusowner

Use different charger! Stock charger sucks! I had the same problem...

Let it drain all the way, until it shuts itself off. Plug it in and do not turn it on, let it charge all the way. The screen will display charging progress. If the screen is blank press and quickly release the power button to see the status.

Used my MyTouch 4G slide charger and it charged to 100% with the battery history reset. I must have a defective charger. Hopefully, Google will send me a charger and I won't have to RMA my whole phone...

Charging/not charging problem

For the last two days, my Nexus 4 has been charging weirdly. I leave it to charge overnight and when I wake up its at (usually) 78%. When I go to the battery stuff in the settings it switches between charging and not charging. It's back and forth. Has anyone seen this?

Same thing happened to me yesterday, but today was fine and fully charged. IDK what the hell happened yesterday, but I woke up, took it of the charger and it was 78% charged!?

I've seen this on mine when connected to a computer. I was using a 10ft cable from Monoprice.
When using shorter cables it worked fine. Might just be a bad cable.

I`m using the stock charger and cable....never had problems till yesterday
I'm also using stock cable and charger. I used a tooth pick and pushed lightly the shelf to the left. It seems to have worked. If it does it again I'm rmaing.

Any idea about how to charge it, then? Do I need to buy another or just use a spare charger?

Using my Nexus S and 7 charger on 4?

Would this be a safe idea it terms of the life of the battery down the road? I also bought a 3rd party car charger.

I use chargers from various phones. Have used different phone chargers with all my phones. Never had or noticed any problems. I'm sure you will be fine.

Yes, it's safe. I'm using an old Samsung charger to charge my Nexus. The charger doesn't really matter IMO.

When using chargers that don’t come with the device, the only difference it can possibly cause is the rate of charging (how fast your device charges).
Just take a look at the milliamp rating on your charger. The N4 comes with a charger that outputs at 1400ma. I found that if I charged my N4 with a charger made for SE Arc, it takes forever to charge which isn’t a surprise since that charger outputs 750ma.
Don’t worry about using a higher milliamp charger on a device that’s rated to charge at a lower rate. The device will only draw what it needs. I’m not sure what’s the maximum ma the N4 will charge at, but let’s assume it will charge at 1400ma maximum. Even if you use a 2A charger, it will still charge at 1400ma.
Even I thot its safe and was using my Nexus 7 charger with the Nexus 4 . everything was fine for a few hours. Then suddenly it froze and the screen started getting weird lines on it .I immediately removed the charger and while the device was rebooting I could notice that the screen had a burn in kinda image on it. It slowly faded away later. Haven't used the Nexus 7 charger since and I've never got the same issue again.

I don't think so. Cuz I wasn't even using it. It was just lying there most of the time. I switched on the display and was looking at battery monitor widget to check the charging status and then maybe twitter or something and it just froze. Held down the power button for 10seconds then restarted it.

As a rule of thumb I'd keep then Nexus 4 away from the Nexus 7 charger.

The N7 charger is rated at 2A. I sometimes use it to charge my N4. Most of the time, I use a generic 2A charger. At the office, I use a Samsung 2A charger for my N4. I’ve encountered zero problems.
Truthfully I'm more concerned using a 12v in the car. Any suggestions what I can get?

Go to settings, Battery and see if it says AC charging or USB charging. Plug your phone in, try to play some games for a few mins then go back into the battery and see if its in AC or USB charging and if it has charged of discharged. Basically if the phone is in USB charging it is possible for it to lose charge or not charge at all. I had the same problem with my phone as it would not do AC charging, I tried it with another charger and it worked fine for a few weeks, I called google and they said it was a problem with the battery (not the charger) and they set up an RMA.

Is there a fix for slow charging issue?

Since i updated my device to 4.2.1 charging my nexus 7 really get slow..... It takes 6 hours to 7 hours to fully charge. Im using the cable and charger that it came from the unit.
Is there a fix for this one? Thanks.

AW: Is there a fix for slow charging issue?
Check whether the device charges in USB mode. It can happen for some reason I don't know. In this mode it charges much slower. I once had it happen when on AC.
It's on AC. It takes 6 hrs to fully charge from empty. =(

What do you mean by rebooting it? I have the same charging problem. It needs about five to six hours for me to charge fully. How did you solve it? Is it really the problem of android 4.2.2?
Just try rebooting it or restart the device while charging. Im using battery widget reborn app, to see how many hrs left to make my nexus 7 to be fully charged.
Here's what i do,
Plug the charger then check after 2 mins on the app battery widget reborn how many hrs left to be fully charged, if it's says more than 4 hrs or greater than that. Hit the power button and restart your device. Once the device booted up, check the remaining time left on charging if it's improved to 3 hrs or less to fully charged your device.
Try it. It's working fine for my nexus 7.

I tried the app you mentioned. But the remaining time it indicates isn't equivalent to the real time used. Maybe this app doesn't work for my device, it still needs four to five hours for my nexus being fully charged. Anyway, thanks for your reply.

Or you may try to go to bootloader, then turn it off.. Unplug the charger, then put it back in then turn on your device.. It works for me.

Charging Flicker On/Off then Sudden Power Loss, Just a Fluke?

I was charging the phone via the wallport adapter starting around 14%. A few minutes in the charge indicator/icon flicker on and off and I get all these "Low Power" warning spam.
I try to change cables but the phone power level just dropped from about 13% to 0% in less than a minute. After plugging in a different cable the phone is charging fine now.
What exactly happened? My friend mentioned the cable might be damage and something short circuited. Should I be concern about damages to the battery?
Comments are appreciated,
Thank you

Sounds like your previous charging cable broke.

I take it you were using the stock charger. It's junk. I replaced mine a few months ago and haven't had an issue.

Interesting, which adapter are yer using now?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I had the same problem except my battery percentage never went to 0. The charging would flicker on/off then the battery percentage would slowly go down/stay the same/or charge extremely slowly. I switched to a different charger and haven't had a problem since. The LG one is bad. I'm using the stock LG cable with the new charger now.
