You should read through the cyanogen thread, and if you ever have questions do a search on the forums before posting a question because it's probably already been answered.
Make a backup of your apps with another app like Titanium backup in the playstore. Or another app that will backup and restore your apps.
When you upgrade your ROM your saved items will stay on the emulated sdcard on your phone, so your backed up apps will stay on there.
If you have to wipe everything on your phone someday, just transfer your backups to your desktop.
Read this root guide, the second post will tell you about backups.

I highly recommend you download Cyandelta for using CM Nightlies, you'll be downloading 8-20MB instead of ~150MB. Using it's openrecovery script it can auto install via TWRP, too.

Hello. I'll probably get shouted at for missing some FAQ somewhere, however, I am trying to flash my ROM on my phone.
I have rooted it, and I have downloaded the ROM, however, the instructions tell me I should use ClockWorkROM to install it, but on Google Play it tells me it is incompatible with my phone. Its a Gen1 San Francisco.
Can someone point me in the direction of a ROM installer that I can use?
Thanks, Chris
Having just posted that, I installed TFT software and that managed to download and install a new ROM (I think)

The wiki, under recovery, tells you how to install ClockworkMod Recovery. And has other useful info, worth a look
This is the development section. Please post all questions in the general section. Thanks! Thread moved.

Lollipop is aufull 4 this phone, mate. Use cm11-pure or slim rom based-great batt and fluid like juice
hey guys, so i know just a few posts below me there's a topic about when 4.2 will come to the N7. But what i'm wondering is if anyone has gotten their hands on the 4.2 GAPPS or anything of the sort, such as the new 4.2 keyboard and the 4.2 camera (not that the camera would be much use on an N7). I have the 4.2 GAPPS, keyboard and camera running on my S3, can i just use those same .zip files and flash them on my N7? or does it not just work that way.

The apps can be flashed on any device running 4.1 or later
Link
Be careful mate. I flashed the 4.2 gapps and once i rebooted i was constantly getting force closes on all the apps that got flashed.
My device was a real mess. I have not tried the separate apps like keyboard etc so i cant comment on them.
Edit...i did not flash the ones that the fellow member linked you to in the post above.
The ones in that link say the for any androud 4.1 device so you should be ok.

Ah, I assumed the OP already had the apps in the link I posted as he said about his S3 and the thread linked was in the S3 forum.
So yeah, make sure you're using the apps from the link and you should be fine as the post says its for any device running 4.1 or over. If you're unsure you could always perform a nandroid backup beforehand in case anything does go wrong.
yeah, that link is where I got the GAPPS from. I guess I didn't see the part about being able to flash it on anything. lol
thanks a bunch

Hi! I have some questions, hope to get some answers. I'm coming from CM to PA and there are a few things that matter to me. What I liked about CM and does it exist in PA.
1.Cyandelta - Is the built-in PA OTA the same thing? Or does it flash the whole Rom?
2.If I froze something with TB, then flashed an update, nightly for example - my frozen system apps got updated and stayed frozen. - Will the same work with PA? If not, would I also have to unfreeze system apps before flashing an update OTA or manually via recovery?
3.The support, CM has their forums, awesome by the way. - To get help with PA questions? Xda? G+? 4.When I get my hybrid settings how I like them, per app colors. - Will they remain after a update, even a big one like 4.2.2-4.3? Is there a way to back them up and import them, maybe via a root explorer app, please explain the where-to-how.
Thank you all in advance for your time and answers

1) The PA OTA updater is very much intended to be just like cyandelta - but it's not fully functional as of yet. It is the exact same idea but they haven't got the kinks worked out. I'd imagine it will be fixed up sooner than later though.
2) Yes, Titanium Backup works the same way with PA as CM. The freezing action is the same, just like you described.
3) The PA dev thread is heavily active, as is the FAQ. As you may notice, I and several others really make sure questions get answered. G+ has a very vibrant community as well.
4) Hybrid Preferences have a backup functionality built right into that section of the settings. So, yes, you can restore things. That doesn't go for every little setting in the menu, just the Hybrid stuff - but that's what you asked about anyhow.
Hope this helped

Hello everyone,
as I am about to switch phones (yay! ) , so I'd like to ask what the best approach is to migrate a CyanogenMod 10.1.2 based installation on a Nexus S to a brand-new Nexus 4? No noobie here, but soem step-by-step guidance very much appreciated.
Thanks,
digisus
(I hope I posted in the right forum, please move it elsewhere if not. thx.)
T backup all user app+data. Move them to your PC. Then root ur n4 n restore. This pretty much work on all Android device provided you have root. Note, not all games save can be backup tho.

If you have Titanium backup. Back up apps+data, export backup file to dropbox.
Once new phone is up and runnning, install Titanium backup on new phone, import apps data from dropbox.
It's recommend you only restore user's apps and data, let Google restore your system apps and data.
I recently went from one phone to another and it was pretty quick and easy.
Thanks!
Hey max1001 & baseballfanz !
Thank you so much for the quick response. t is very reassuring that you both recommended the same path!
I will do exactly that.
I will mark the thread as [SOLVED].
Thanks,

Android 7.1.1 is out now from a developer.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767121311
*If you have already flashed cm14*
Install the zip file.
Reboot into recovery.
Flash the zip file.
Reboot the system.
Now you can experience Android 7.1.1
Check the development threads below, CM 14.1 has been around for some days already.
I guess u r not allowed to share links just like that. Further ashwin is already sharing his work in original development thread. Request admin to delete the thread

U seems not been to XDA since ages, we have a bunch of threads available for the same.
Great guide though
It's a file with 460+ downloads, you didn't think that it'll already be on active development stage on the forums ?
Nice try but sorry. Reported.
